"It’s already worth the trek to Conroe to visit this decades-old bakery slinging scratch-made cornbread, eclairs, and fruit-filled pies, but during Mardi Gras season, it’s all about the freshly baked king cakes. Find whole cakes topped with colored sugar, beads, and a plastic baby with a variety of fillings ranging from cinna-butter to pecan praline." - Brittany Britto Garley, Megha McSwain

Google
The cake and cookies were delicious!! I couldn’t find anyone back home to do me a baby shower cake. I didn’t want to have to transport one on a 3 hr road trip. I’m glad I did! I asked for a simple cake, I added the little decor later. It was exactly what I wanted and tasted amazing!! I will definitely use Montgomery bake house from now on.

Google
We loved it here! The people are so friendly and the sweets are divine! Everything is very reasonably priced and there is lots of seating to hangout and chat with friends. They also have a community microwave to heat up your treats. Overall very great experience and we will definitely be back for more.

This was place was awesome. I wanted to get a cake for my wife to celebrate being halfway done with her marathon training and they really came through. Did the whole cake for me in 24 hours. The atmosphere also seems great with plenty of snacks and coffee. Will definitely be back.

Google
We use Montgomery Bakehouse for our important events. Weddings and baby showers. This place is on point even if you’re just going in for coffee and a kolache. Friendly, helpful staff on top of delicious baked goods. (The Italian cream cake is our favorite) Update: Got this carrot cake for my Aunts 70th birthday; Huge hit! Update: Nana's birthday cake (vanilla), another hit.

Just the smell of fresh baked goodies is fulfilling 😋.Ooo, wee lotta fantastic takes on popular pastries. Nice...Nice...Nice !

Google
You can smell the bakery before you walk in to a quaint brick building. The space is all open with tables to sit down to enjoy your treats... cause you can't just eat one. We are only here for a week, but will definitely be coming here at least a couple more times.

Google
Four stars for the food. Three stars for the atmosphere. One star for your customer service. 9/24/24. Whoever is working your phones needs to be LET GO because for the last 2 days I have tried to call and they pick up the phone and slam it back down. Nice. Real nice. Real professional, Montgomery Bakehouse. Class act all the way. Not!

Google
Great pies and the best cinnamon rolls i have ever had!!!! The employees are super nice and very helpful. Montgomery Bakehouse is a must stop.

Yelp
Holy cannoli give me the formuoli . Guys this place is second to none! My goodness the sweets we ordered here last week were hands down the best our family has ever had. It's hard to give some places give stars but if I could this Bakehouse 10 stars I would. Pros: Customer Service - was spot on!! Right as I approached the counter I was greeted right away. You can tell the employees are down to earth and family! Quality - again second to none! We ordered a custom cake for my mother in law and it was literally perfect. We demolished the whole cake before night fall Ambiance - The atmosphere is filled with a sweet/cinnamon smell that makes you want to buy a dozen cookies right off the bat. They also have a small seating area if you're wanting to grab a cup of coffee/snack and read or study. Cons Price - I always dislike putting this subject as a con but in this case it is relevant. This is not a Walmart/Kroger cake special kind of establishment. You truly get what you pay for here. I personally think it's worth every penny. Have a sweet tooth? Or just wanting to try a new place out in town? Don't skip past Montgomery Bakehouse - you have to try this place

Yelp
Very clean and very nice service. I never knew what this business was. I love that they have a place to have events. I will use them at my next convenience.

Helen M.

Yelp
The Bakery is very inviting and spacious, loved the decor - kind of an old fashioned store resembling a movie set...The displays are very tantalizing and the goods are scrumptious. Tried the gooey chocolate cookie, cherry turnover, and a huge piece of an amazing cherry strudel (apparently, I got lucky as they normally carry just an apple strudel and you have to order ahead the cherry one). Really enjoyed the entire experience and very friendly and accommodating service - the young ladies are definitely customer oriented. Keep up the great work!

Michael S.

Yelp
First time here, ordered an apple pie for Thanksgiving. It was the best! Family liked it so much that after they ate the pie, they were on this website already picking out which pies they want me to buy for Christmas.

Brett N.

Yelp
Why 3 stars? Because the king cake's make it worth the trip. --- --- --- My in-laws tend to bring us various treats from Montgomery Bakehouse from time to time, and the main event of said treats is usually a King Cake. We always enjoy the King Cake, except for the fact that we can't stop eating it over the course of several days, and shockingly, it is not on our meal plan. We recently actually stopped into the bakery itself for the first time ever and were initially overwhelmed with all of the tasty looking options. Unfortunately, we tried a couple of things and were pretty underwhelmed, which is usually the case for anything else my in-laws bring to us. We were especially disappointed by the brownie, which legitimately had the texture of rubber. The space is pretty enormous for a bakery, so they do have a ton of different options to choose from, but I would just stick to the King Cake here and skip the rest of it.

Leann W.

Yelp
Love this place! We went for buns but found much more! Cupcakes, cookies, breakfast and pastry all delicious.

Catherine L.

Yelp
I was only meeting up my coordinator there for a couple of minutes and the entire building made me want to stay for hours! First off, seeing the pump for electric cars was already impressive. Second, it is soooo spacious inside! Almost looks like a dance floor. Third, EVERYTHING looked delicious! I loved the Halloween seasonal items and there were even some cute smaller cookies for as low as 70cents each. I had to get my favorite kind of cookie of all time!

Kay C.

Yelp
The sugary goodness wraps you up as you enter the building! Clean, well lit location. Friendly staff! Delicious coffee with all the add ins. Great apple pies and M&M cookies! We have tried other treats! The M&M cookies are our favorites!

Lori C.

Yelp
Came by to buy a coconut crème pie for my mom's birthday. They had one and it was the best coconut pie I had ever had. My mom was super impressed with it. We also picked up a personal pecan pie for my daughter that she loved and I got a German chocolate cupcake. Both were fantastic. We will definitely be back!!

Edmarie L.

Yelp
Tasty treats, there were so many options I was a little overwhelmed. We got a good variety of sweets for the weekend and everyone loved them. With two boxes full of goods I spent less than $25. A great spot for festive treats.

Bethanne A.

Yelp
Ordered a King cake and must say it was very good. For $18.00 it was worth it. I ate it all the same day. The other baked good for okay.

Meghan C.

Yelp
My husband and I tried about 9 or 10 different items and the desserts were good, but nothing over the top! My husband said he believes the red velvet cake balls are the best he's ever had - I just wish they would make Dark chocolate covered red velvet also, not just white chocolate. The cookie they're known for is also really great if you like a more crumbly type of cookie! However, all the cake type products I had were pretty dry. I wasn't able to try every single item (like the pies or cobblers), so I will be back to try those. In terms of service, the staff was nice, but I felt very rushed making my decisions. I realize they had a few customers in there, I just don't love how the service was. I would give this shop a higher rating had the staffing been more welcoming and displayed more southern hospitality. When looking for a bakery to do custom items, I always try their case products first to get a feel for their general items and really to see how I am interacted with from a custom service standpoint. Hoping that my next visit I will be able to change my response!

Brooks B.

Yelp
Today was my first time going here, and I don't think I could be more disappointed with the outcome. I went in and the place smelled amazing. All the desserts in the cases look absolutely delicious. The employees were very helpful and willing to give as many recommendations as needed and the price of each item was incredibly reasonable. The disappointment lies in the quality of of the pastries themselves, because they looked fantastic, but just about everything tasted either old or off. I tried a large variety, including the coffee cake, Texas, tornado, lemon Square, cream, horn, mini cheesecake, brownie, red velvet cake ball, red velvet cupcake, chocolate whoopie pie and the palmier. I was disappointed with every single item. The vast majority of them tasted very old or very dry and had a stale texture, and if that wasn't the problem it was the overall flavor. I have never had a cheesecake taste like sharp cheddar cheese before until today. I had very high hopes but unfortunately I now have a box of desserts with only a single bite taken out of them.

Yelp
Montgomery Bakehouse is a very outstanding bakery, the outside was interesting it has an old theater vibe to it. Did not realize it was even a bakery ha. Walked in and was very happy, I thought how cool is this. They had so many deserts, bread and I think cakes and stuff too, it's also pretty cool to see them make everything, they have it open to where you can see them. I went here on Valentine's Day, ended up grabbing some bread and 2 heart shaped macrons and a small cake thing. Macrons were amazing, the cake was also pretty tasty too. Service was good as well, friendly and welcoming! Recommend stopping by if you get a chance.

Kelsey C.

Yelp
Montgomery Bakehouse did an amazing job on my birthday cake! It was beautiful and delicious!

Milton S.

Yelp
Their cookies, pies and cakes are the best I have ever got from a bakery! They made me three personalized cakes in the last twelve months and they were fantastic. Montgomery Bakehouse is my go to Bakery. Service is very fast. Ambiance is what you would expect in a bakery.

Julia W.

Yelp
We've been getting multiple items from this bakery for a while and haven't had any issues. Cakes, cookies, pies they are always delicous! My favorite are the linzer cookies filled with jam and I always pick up some doggie treats as well!

Bonnie A.

Yelp
Everything we tried was good. Some better than others. But a step up from grocery store baked goods.

Dottie C.

Yelp
Their king cakes are the only one I will eat. So moist and delicious. Very flaky cake and the filling is wonderful.

Vicki H.

Yelp
I ordered a cake at the last minute (for next day pickup) for my daughter's birthday. I chose the cannoli cake, and it was absolutely fabulous! I had no idea that a bakery of this caliber existed in Conroe. Give them a try for your next special occasion. They offer cakes, pies, cookies, cupcakes, cheesecakes, you name it....The best part is that they are a family-owned business. Have been delighting families with their baked good since 1938. https://montgomerybakehouse.com/

Laura A.

Yelp
Always fantastic baked goods!! Highly recommend! Very friendly staff and usually has what you need on hand. Great specialty cakes!

Barbara P.

Yelp
We ordered a few cakes from Montgomery Bakehouse for my nephews birthday. A strawberry cake and a chocolate cake. They were both delicious but the strawberry cake was moist and flavorful. It ended up being the crowd favorite. We ordered the cakes online and were able to pick them up and have them decorated before his party. The price is fair and the cakes are delicious.

Yelp
This bakery I stumbled upon a couple years ago and Boy am I glad I did! The tornado cookies are Amazing!!!!! And so is everything else!

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Tasty bakery items and a HUGE assortment! They have Texas Tornado cookies that are out of this world.

L M.

Yelp
DO NOT PAY AND TRUST THEY WILL ACTUALLY HAVE IT WHEN YOU ARRIVE 30 MINUTES LATER!!! The absolute worst attitude and customer service at this place. I called and asked what they had available. I was given a choice and chose one pie from what they offered. I told them I was already on my way to pick it up. I had to pay first for them to "guarantee " it was still there upon arrival. I gave them my credit card and name. I drove straight there and when I arrived they couldn't find a pie under my name, then came back and admitted they were looking for the wrong name. Not the one I had JUST gave them when I walked up to the counter. after several minutes a rather unfriendly, sour old woman came up and casually said they sold the pie I'd paid for to someone else, what else do I want. It was more her witchy attitude than anything else. Here's the deal. No apologies, no attempt to make amends. They could have been so much nicer and attempted to admit their mistake. But no. This woman was horrible. She actually blamed their snafu on me! She said I should have ordered sooner!! What? I called and asked what was there.. they said this pie was in the case. I paid for it. They took my money and still sold it to someone else. How is that the customers fault? Then she was literally smirking....and very rude. Mistakes happen, but when running a business you should attempt to make it right. A sincere apology would have done the trick. She said she tried to call me back after they sold my pie and I didn't Answer the phone so it was my fault the pie wasn't there when i arrived less than 30 minutes later! I drove to pick up the pie I paid for! This woman flunked customer service 101. Then she said she wouldn't sell me a pie at all... What??? Then i'm assuming it was the owner, a fat old guy that frankly looked too dirty to be working near food aggressively came up yelling like a thug. Trying to intimidate me. Not to apologize or try to help with a substitute pie. I got a refund, wasted valuable time driving to get there, and no pie for Thanksgiving. Next time I'll go to pie in the sky bakery. They know how to treat a customer. No pie is worth dealing with horrible staff. Don't give these "people" your business.

Joe F.

Yelp
I have been on their email list for quite some time but just made it into the store for the first time. The smell when you first walk in is AMAZING! The kitchen is open so you can see the bakers in action and more importantly how clean everything is. The baked selections seem endless and making a choice was difficult but I managed to control myself and made my selection. The sticky bun was sweet and gooey and the dough was light and fluffy. I should have bought 2! The Texas Tornado Cookie had rich fudge on a crispy butter cookie base. I should have bought 2! The chocolate brownie cookie had a great crispy crunchy outside and a rich chocolate brownie middle. I should have bought 3! Montgomery Bakehouse has been around since 1938 so the sign says. They have spent their time perfecting their recipes and have amazing sweet treats to offer. Stop in and treat yourself to probably the best bakery in Texas.

Sue S.

Yelp
Oh my goodness where do I start... there banana cream pie is out of this world! It's the best I have ever had , you have to preorder this pie, most of their pies they have on hand. They are all delicious. Their pastries are all amazing all fresh and delicious. My favorite is the palmier it reminds me of my childhood. This bakery is very clean. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable of the baked goods and they always go out of their way to wrap things so nicely. You can't leave without trying a Texas Tornado cookie it's a staple on my list. If I could give more stars I would!

Dee D.

Yelp
My favorite cake is the Lemon iced ring. There's not a better pound cake in the county !!!! My dog loves the dog cookies better than any other treat I can find anywhere else ! Wish they sold them in larger quantities because 5 for 4.00 was s a bit steep for my wallet !!! But I buy them because she's worth it..... just not too often

Suzanne L.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to trying this bakery. There aren't many good bakeries around anymore... Sadly Montgomery Bakehouse just doesn't meet expectations, especially considering it has been around for so long. Their attention to Covid precautions was absolutely nothing. I didn't notice the lack of a sign entering the building requiring masks of the customers but I sure noticed when I went in and saw no workers in masks, all tables available with none of them marked off to allow for social distancing. Not even any hand sanitizer or cleaning of the keypad between customers. Maybe I'll try this place again when we are past the pandemic but to me their disregard for the health of their employees and customers makes me rethink even coming back. Very disappointed.

Stacey W.

Yelp
I requested a Black Forest cake for my birthday and my husband ordered from here. It was delicious. We will definitely use them again.

Brad D.

Yelp
The pastries are great, the Palmiers, Danish, Cinnamon rolls, fruit Danish, mini Cannoli's are all top notch. My wife had the Italian Crème cake balls and said they were dry and chewy, but everything else has been great. We love the Kolaches here, but heat them up Yourself in the micro. They're only good hot. Their Bakehouse coffee is good as well. We go here once a month or so and love it. Try the Texas Tornado cookie, it's very tasty. There are too many delicious items here, it's like being in bakery heaven. Good luck trying to choose!

Sara G.

Yelp
I always stop by when I'm in the area. I love that they have so much to pick from! There are always cookie cakes, pies, and regular cakes to buy in stock and just waiting on writing. The muffins and cinnamon rolls are yummy too. They've really grown the past few years from the old location next to McKenzies BBQ.

Smith Family O.

Yelp
A box full of yum! I have been wanting to visit this place ever since my daughter was in college in 2015 but always thought it was out in the boonies somewhere. Today we revisited Huntsville, Tx and decided to stop in and it was a great decision. I picked up a box full of yummy I got some chocolate pecan chewy cookies that taste like brownies but not as sweet or thick which were perfect for me. The Lemon Danish were fresh and wonderful, not to tart or sweet. I picked up an elephant ear cookie, I know that is not it's name but everywhere else that's what they're called and some Linzer cookies, Texas Tornado cookies and a beautiful looking Lemon pound cake. I'll let you know what those are like on another post because I didn't want to get sick on sugar. The place is clean and every one of the staff members were very friendly. I was surprised though that nobody was wearing a mask or gloves. Not even the majority of the customers. People were sitting in eating so that was odd but to each their own. I am glad I stopped in to try all these goodies and will be back because they have so much variety and there aren't very many bakeries like this around. Give it a try there's so much to choose from you won't regret it.

Teri N B.

Yelp
Always good, fresh and a great selection. Great birthday cakes. We love Montgomery Bakehouse!

Scott L.

Yelp
Another good reason to drive away from Houston!! Wonderfully repurposed theatre made into bakery, and beautifully done! I didn't try everything in the case, but it wasn't for lack of effort. Returned for seconds on the kolaches, which was an ethical dilemma: my Beloved Kolache Factory is across the street! Please, don't tell. So many baked goods....so little time....

Lynn J.

Yelp
I happen to find this Place and just love it. There hasn't been one thing I've had that wasn't delicious. My husband and I will stop by just for the coffee, butter pecan. It is the best. We go for breakfast sometime for a quick bite. I can't say enough about this place. It is so good. They have pies, cookies, cakes, breads and so much more. I have gained too much weight since discovering this place. Everyone who works there is so friendly and helpful. It's very clean, lots of room and home like feeling. I would recommend checking this gem out. I recommend

KA N.

Yelp
Had a huge issue with some pastries last week. Didn't get any response from form I filled out. Sadly, usually great, just could do without added ingredients. just don't care for swinging "by a hair" turnovers!

Karley P.

Yelp
Loved this cake! They did such a beautiful job. The raspberry filling was awesome. I ordered a simple white cake, and added my own topper

Tonya M.

Yelp
We ordered decorated airplane cookies for my grandson's birthday party. They were hard and it looked like a two year old decorated them. I was so very disappointed with them. The piping had fallen off Of a few of them when I opened the box. I won't go back.

Nancy L.

Yelp
During Covid-19 - We were in this area and wanted to grab some quick breakfast/desserts. First off, none of the workers were wearing any gloves nor masks - not even one person inside. No plastic protection or any form of Covid precautions - everything was running normal inside with cookies floating around everywhere and was using bare hands. Unfortunately the togo cannoli and éclair we got was also ultra ultra sweet and hard to the point we couldn't even finish them both. This isn't a fancy bakery, rather has simple items. We won't be recommending this place, especially when an establishment doesn't follow any mask mandates. There's been multiple reviews about the no masks and they aren't doing anything about it. No thanks.

Devon J.

Yelp
We have had this bakery make two (basic) birthday cakes for us in the past two months and will continue to get them from here. One was chocolate with white frosting and one was yellow cake with chocolate frosting. They were both absolutely delicious. My ONLY complaint would be that I asked them if on the yellow cake they could possibly slice each of the (two) layers in half (making four layers with frosting between each) and they told me absolutely not without even hesitating. Seems odd for a bakery that says they do custom cakes and what not. I'm not sure what the reasoning behind the adamant "No" was, and no explanation was provided so I guess my choice is to just accept it and move on. They make good brownies, cupcakes, and cookies....some of their items from the case come out a little dry but still tasty. The girls working there are always nice.

J B.

Yelp
I love their Tornado cookies, they're amazing. What worries me, every time I visit (which isn't often since Covid) is whether I'll be coming home with cookies AND Covid 19. Not one worker in a mask or gloves. No plexiglass by the register, nothing. You walk in there and it's like there's no pandemic happening. Their choice to ignore safety protocols, not only does it tell me they have no concern for their employees, but it tells me they have NO concern for their customers. I find it disgusting and deplorable. Even when the governor mandates it, they choose to ignore.

Valery C.

Yelp
Loved this place! There's a lot of options and the pastries are delicious, and the staff is very nice and friendly. The bakery is big and it has it's own parking space, and it's stroller/wheelchair friendly. We'll definitely come back. Recommended.

Laura A.

Yelp
10 employees and people sitting at tables. Not a mask in sight. I just turned around and left.

Alexandria P.

Yelp
I 100% recommend this bakery! The atmosphere is cozy and open , the employees ( or at least the ones I have come in contact with) are very kind and welcoming?, the food is AMAZING and they are affordable! I had gotten a danish, a jumbo cupcake, and a cinnamon roll all for about 8 dollars. Totally recommend!!

Karyn K.

Yelp
Aesthetically - 5...for character and charm. Equipment - 5... Wow! A bit of coin invested. Concept - 5... True neighborhood working bakeries are far inbetween now-a-days. Product - 2 to 3 ...While everything looked good, it's the product that matters and for me, it was just meh. Perhaps I'm spoiled ...spent most of my life surrounded by hardworking family owned bakeries (Italian,Portuguese and Japanese) where the uniqueness, goodness & love in each product was enjoyed.. .. And unfortunately I didn't experience that here.

E B.

Yelp
Go for real baked goods and specialty cakes. Travelled 30 minutes and it was worth it. Outstanding service and friendly staff. Will visit often and recommend.

James H.

Yelp
I'm giving a 2 star because I used to like this place. Not sure what happened to them, new owners? Old owners stopped caring? We bought some cookies and a fruitcake for Christmas. The cookies were over cooked and hard. The fruit cake is absolutely the worst thing I've eaten in quit some time. DO NOT BUY THE FRUITCAKE! The cake was stale, which is odd because fruitcakes usually last years! Lol. Their fruitcake crumbled when cut, like it was made of sand. Rotten smelling apricot glaze? For being a fruitcake, there was more of the sand-like cake than fruit and nuts. Very disappointing.

David K.

Yelp
We just tried the Montgomery Bakehouse for the first time today. I was astounded by the fantastic selection of pastries, and baked goods. The staff was friendly, and the business was extremely clean. We will be back.
