A tiny, time‑capsule diner feeding Fort Worth since 1949—Saturday‑morning plates of eggs, biscuits, and hash browns before museums or Dickies Arena. Listed by the city’s official tourism site; loved for friendly service and fair prices.

Lovely old school restaurant with Service at a counter or seated. When you go in, you want to look for the menu board against the back wall. Some specials ferry by day. Today I had the chicken fried steak lunch special with two sides plus salad. Prices are very reasonable and the service is attentive. This is a place that most tourists don’t find, although it’s very busy during the Fort Worth stock show.

One of the best breakfast places! Very pretty atmosphere and a great service. The restaurant was packed with customers, even on a weekday morning. The hash potato, which I love, were also fantastic. The freshly baked scones were probably the best I've ever had 😉👍

Google
Your local cafe for a tasty, inexpensive breakfast. The grits are amazing and excellent quick service! Just find an empty table and they will service you as soon as you sit down. Then take your check to the cashier when you are done. And they will work with you if you are gluten free!! Worth a visit if you are in town!

As a local, I've driven by this diner hundreds of times in my life time, yet never stopped by. First time stopping by this local gem, and I was blown away! The breakfast was absolutely amazing—fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the service was top-notch, and the prices were very reasonable. Overall, I highly recommend giving this place a try!

I have been here 4 times. The first 3 were 5 star. The last 7/28/25 was challenging, the server took 5-10 minutes to come over, placed order two breakfast burritos, they were excellent, but the forgot to add hash browns, waitresses never brought OJ with food, so got up to ask about it, that was the only time she ever came back to my table to bring Orange juice. Never a refill, never saw her till at check out. Service was quite challenging the couple next to me waited, and finally left, the next guy was told we stopped serving breakfast it was 10:45 and we won’t serve lunch for 15 more minutes he waited till 11 to order. I hope this isn’t the new norm.

Recommended by a friend that comes to Fort Worth often. Small cafe with cozy sitting. Super nice staff. We got the French toast and it was amazing. Also two eggs with sausage patties hash brown and homemade biscuit. And one pancake. Everything had a good taste

Yelp
You haven't truly been to Fort Worth if you don't include either breakfast or lunch--why not both--at this street side cafe. Unpretentious is putting it mildly. Booths or tables, you choose. But be ready for over the top friendly quick service. I love the banter with the staff. Food is solid and roadside diner-like. A must is the chicken fried steak--really tender beef and NOT covered in a heavy breading. The sawmill gravy is a bit thin, my only complaint. The fried chicken lunch special is excellent too. Veggies are solid--love the mashed potatoes and the lettuce salad. Chocolate and coconut pies are legendary but man the lunch servings are so generous I don't know how you could do both. It's traditional in all ways--cash only!

Yelp
First time here and we will be back. Best breakfast I've had in a long time. Biscuits were fluffy and homemade. Good sausage and gravy, bacon cooked to perfection. Kind of felt like I was stepping back in time but in a good way. Great service! Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
What a busy place. We had to wait a bit but all was fine. They were busy. Definitely a locals place. The western omelet was very good. The veggies were grilled which is the only way they should be done. The sausage omelet was also very good. The biscuits very large and good, couldn't eat the whole thing though as it was a lot of food. I think the decor was a lot of original items. Rustic but fitting. I was amazed the old refrigerator they were using was still in working order!! Everyone's super nice. Would def recommend.

Yelp
If you're looking for a quick breakfast place with great specials, this is the place! The staff are always friendly and they don't let the coffee cup run dry! This has become our go to place when we come through Fort Worth.

Yelp
Delightful. Everything was delicious. It's a great hole in the wall place. It's tiny. If you call before you go with a big group they'll estimate seating and time for you. It's very small so the 7 of us split two booths. Would definitely go again!

Yelp
Cutest, friendliest and smallest breakfast spot! This place has been around for years just trust me you'll be able to tell from the moment you walk in the door! You'll be greeted by the friendliest girls working and prompt service throughout! They offer just about everything for breakfast and FAST! Food was good service was great!

Yelp
Cheap, QUALITY food. Can't beat the prices. Staff is friendly. The restaurant itself is a bit old and dated, but that's what gives it character. Nice little diner that I'll go back to for sure.

Yelp
I don't know why anyone world give this place fewer than 5 stars. the food was delicious and none of it was from frozen packets like a lot of restaurants. the waitress was friendly and attentive. the most genuine place I've ever eaten in. I had a visitor from Europe and she was enraptured. we had a peerless breakfast, the bacon was cooked right and not limp and stretchy, eggs were done just right, the hash browns started as a potato in the kitchen. limited parking but we had no trouble at 7am.

Yelp
We'd heard about the cafe in the local news, and decided to drop in for Saturday morning breakfast around 9AM. After putting our name in and waiting about 10 minutes, we got seated across from the front door - it was a cold morning, so every time that door opened (which was often) we felt a rush of cool air that our breakfasts did not appreciate. It is a SMALL space trying to accommodate more folks than is comfortable. The tables are squeezed together making it hard for both guests and staff to get around. Removing even just one table would make a huge difference As for the food! Some of the best breakfast I've had out. I ordered one of the specials, labeled the Nugget - two eggs, bacon OR sausage, waffle OR pancake. It was the perfect amount of food! Very rarely do I finish a meal out but I finished this (save for one piece of bacon I shared with my partner) and was perfectly satisfied. The bacon was cooked just right, the eggs tasted fresh and well seasoned, and the waffle was super light and fluffy. My partner got the three cheese omelette with hash browns, a biscuit with gravy, and an extra single pancake on the side. The omelette itself was good, but the cheese was just piled in slices inside, unmelted. He took two bites before removing all the cheese because it was so unappetizing. The hashbrowns had a great flavor, but were pretty soggy. Standard hatred salsa, and a tasty pancake. The biscuit was the star here - you could tell it was homemade fresh, it didn't even need the gravy (though it was tasty!). He also said the coffee was really good, albeit strong. Overall, friendly staff, cute space, and delicious breakfast. We will be back! Even if it means bumping elbows with other guests.

Yelp
Great breakfast!!!!! Hearty American food! This place has fueled many days of equine competition in Fort Worth!

Yelp
Fun but very crowded. The breakfast was very good and the waitress was delightful.

Yelp
This is classic down home comfort food right in the Cultural District of Fort Worth. The service can't be beat!

Bill R.

Yelp
We were looking for a breakfast place and decided to try this one. I had eggs, bacon, toast, and hashbrowns. It was very good. My wife had pancakes. She said they were very good. The best part was the staff. Very friendly and efficient.

Yelp
Disappointing. We checked it out due to the reviews and being in the area. Had a 15 minute wait.. which is not biggie. I thought "It's popular and the wait probably means it is amazing!" We got seated. We ordered the sausage and egg platter (two sausage patties.. 2 eggs soft scrambled.. hash browns and biscuit and gravy. Coffee and water. The couple of waitresses were making their rounds and tried to keep up with coffee.. some tables went to the bev station to refill their waters. It's a smaller place and got down to half capacity pretty quickly. The waitress would come to us occasionally and say "Your food is on the way!" My partner and I were having a good conversation, soo it wasn't a big deal. 55 minutes after we order, our food showed up. The eggs were very overcooked as well as the sausage. The hashbrowns were undercooked and the biscuit and gravy was ok. It had many awards on the wall as best breakfast place in Fort Worth.. but they ended about 2008. I'm guessing the lady who used to run it was no more. It was a very disappointing trip.

Yelp
Tiny little place but the food was great. We were there for breakfast and I was really impressed. Our service was really good as well. You can tell how good a place is when there's a line waiting to come in!

Yelp
Traditional American breakfast with great prices! There was not outdoor dining, but indoor dining is available. Tables are not social distanced. I was able to get the bacon breakfast for just about $5 which comes with three pieces of bacon, eggs as specified (I asked for scrambled), a choice of hashbrowns or grits (I got hashbrowns), and biscuits (or your choice of bread/toast). The portion size was almost perfect for me (I was too full to finish the biscuits), but everything on my plate met my expectations. Service is attentive, and the waitstaff is friendly. After eating, you have to pay at the register. I would come back here again, especially since it's so close to Dickies Arena.

Yelp
I was a regular diner for breakfast and lunch while attending real estate school next door in 2008. It was always very good. So after a doctor's appointment I stopped for lunch. Got the chicken fried steak with double mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans. The steak is bigger but thinner and is now deep fried instead of cooked on the grill. It had way too much breading. The mashed potatoes were very dry and unseasoned. The green beans were very good but since the rest wasn't I sent it back and left. I'm sure the breakfast is still good but I can get that closer to home so will not be back. If you go during summer take a sweater, they keep it cold in there.

Yelp
Very small and reminds you of the old time restaurants. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Waitresses were friendly and attentive.

Yelp
Wonderful food, outstanding service. We sat at the counter and were waited on quickly and our food came out perfect!

Yelp
Small but good food. Ordered the omelet, couldn't eat it all. Service was good. We went early so we didn't have to wait. Didn't take long before there was a line out the door.

Nita O.

Yelp
Food was great. Service was excellent and atmosphere was wonderful. So much history to look at.

Yelp
Well, let me tell ya 'bout Montgomery Street Cafe down in Fort Worth, Texas. Been grubbin' on their fixin's since '79. Many many years ago, I asked her to never give me the recipe to the bread pudding. She said, "never give it to you"? I said, yes, because I would be so big I wouldn't be able to get out the door! Now, they got these hours, bless their hearts - crack of dawn 'til 2 PM from Thursday to Wednesday, 'cept Sundays, when they take a well-deserved rest. Montgomery Street Cafe, it's more than a place to eat; it's where memories are made over grits and gravy. If you haven't been, you're missin' out on a slice of Fort Worth's heart and soul. Can get a little bit busy around the stock show .

Yelp
When in Ft. Worth and hungry on a morning-check out Montgomery Street Cafe. We rolled in around 8:30 am and there were a host of regulars sipping coffee, talking shop and getting down to breakfast. This place is old school classic cafe, you won't find gluten free anything-fancy ice coffee or cage free avocados. Sometimes you don't need that fluff-get down to some serious old time breakfast. MSC is everything you'd expect from a trip with your grandpa to the local breakfast joint. History, basics, worn booths and tables and friendly wait staff and a solid no nonsense breakfast. The food was solid, the biscuits looked amazing-we were bummed we didn't order those-but hey, next time. I recommend MSC for your morning hungries.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem!! If you want a REAL AMERICAN BREAKFAST! W southern hospitality; this is the perfect place you'll find! You know I always think it's hard to mess up bacon right! But there are restaurant out there who knows how to not cook bacon! Lmao! But not here!!! Their bacon is COOKED TO PERFECTION! It was amazing!! They also know how to cook pork chop! Pricing is fair here! And service is AMAZING!!! They treat you like their own family! It's like eating family dinner in your grandma table! They are honest, down to earth family! You'll see momma, and 15years old son and 7years old daughter bringing your food! And I love that!! Definitely a pleasurable experience and will be back every Saturday to eat here! :)

Yelp
Never have I ever eaten in a "small town" diner like this with roughly sixteen tables and a counter. The place looks frozen in time but is so cozy and welcoming. The staff is a dream and the food is delicious. I raved the entire meal about the coffee because it was absolutely fantastic and my cup never went cold due to our attentive server. We were in town for a concert and very I'm glad we were able to snag a meal here. Hours are Monday to Friday from 6am-2pm & Saturday 7am-12pm & I believe closed on Sundays. They take credit/debit cards and cash. I am unsure of other forms of payment. If you're ever in town stop by because you will not regret it.

Yelp
Frozen Costco or Sams club food. Basically tastes like your mom or dad reheated frozen veggies that you can do at home. Save your money, I've seen the owner unload the groceries out of the back of her Benz.

Yelp
Great food. However, the waitress named Cheryl is a really bad match for this place. Her customer service skills are LACKING to say the least. We waited quite a while for our food and when I kindly inquired about getting our food, she smarted off right in front of everyone, look, I just pulled it out of thin air. Horrible attitude. The other waitresses are awesome so I don't know why we were just treated so horribly but it's not ok.

David R.

Yelp
Significant wait at 9:30 on Saturday morning. We waited almost an hour for a table, and for some reason there were groups of the same size getting seated before us. Not a huge deal, but a decent wait. Had the pork chop breakfast with scrambled eggs, hashbrowns and biscuit and gravy. Pork chop was small and, ok. Hashbrowns weren't for me, had an odd texture and flavor. Eggs were good but the highlight was the biscuit and gravy. Food and service were about average. Fairly inexpensive, but I wouldn't wait 45+ minutes to eat there again.

Yelp
Yea,awesome breakfast!. Been awhile, It was one of my late great fathers restaurants to eat..We use to have to park across the street. As,they were usually busy and full of customers.

Yelp
Nestled along the quiet street of Montgomery, this small cafe had exceptional food and wonderful service! I mentioned to my wife that the restaurant was full of folks who seemed to be local citizens - always a good sign at a restaurant. Once the food arrived, we could see why: this place kicks butt! I thoroughly enjoyed my ham & swiss on toasted rye and the family all loved their orders. Small and cramped, this place packs a punch. They have cracked the code on providing good food with good service for many years. Don't stop now!
google avatar

Sara F.

Yelp
Best waitstaff and kind regulars. Small town feels and country cooking. Making this spot a Saturday tradition. Small space so get the timing right or be willing to wait.
google avatar

JD M.

Yelp
I have dined here several times and found the service to be excellent, and the food delicious. They have been most accommodating in regard to substitutions to keep the carbs down. Typically I sub extra salad for a starch. Very friendly folks!
google avatar

Yelp
OK, the 5 stars is for incredibly authentic diner experience. It could be 1955. Or '75. Or 2020. I suspect very little has changed since 1949 when it first opened. Small corner diner, laminated menu, friendly waitresses and comfort food for breakfast or lunch. Not retro, not kitschy. Authentic. But the food was great. The coffee never ended. The pies look delicious. My omelette was perfect and served almost too fast. I wanted to linger. To become a regular. Insert "sigh" here. It reminded me of the Hiway Cafe in Ozona TX from when I was a kid. It's not breakfast. It's an adventure!

Staci M.

Yelp
Excellent food. Waitress was a doll. My only regret is that I didn't order a second pork chop because it was SO TASTY. I like my eggs over hard and they cooked them to perfection. I had a few bites of the sausage burrito and it was pretty good, but I would stick with my pork chop order 100%. Grits were excellent Biscuits couldn't have been any better. Homemade, soft, doughy. Loved them!!!!
google avatar

Paul S.

Yelp
Cute spot, a little cramped but service was great, friendly people. Food spot on we enjoyed the experience!
google avatar

Phillip E. S.

Yelp
A friend took me here earlier this year. Love it! The place is a total dive, but the food is excellent. Great southern home cooking. The parking can be tough at times, but don't let that deter you from eating here. The restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch and closes at 2 p.m. Definitely eat here!
google avatar

Jack W.

Yelp
Really enjoy this throwback breakfast spot. Reminds me of home cooking. Like to stop in when in Fort Worth. Also, it's nice that it is in walking distance to Dickies Arena.
google avatar

Renae H.

Yelp
Reasonably priced, decent food. The staff was friendly and attentive. The tables are crammed into the space making it difficult to enjoy your meal because someone is bumping into you, your chair, or your table constantly. There wasn't anything special about the food that I would be willing to put myself through the experience again.
google avatar

Kay M.

Yelp
Not much to look at from the outside, but wow, the food is outstanding. Large servings, low prices, excellent service. What else can I say? Try it out, you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Cyndi B.

Yelp
Wonderful place to eat breakfast. Probably started in the 40's based on the decor The food was good and the service was great. I will definitely go back if I'm in the area

CJ T.

Yelp
First cafe I've been to that doesnt have all-day breakfast was really disappointed. My friend disliked the BLT and the CFS was really bland.
google avatar

Ron S.

Yelp
Don't show up with your well behaved child. Evidently, that's a cloak of invisibility and invite to be rude. Understand taking care of regulars, but when one slides in ahead of you AFTER they clean a table that's just rude. That is up to the staff to take care of. A shoulder shrug doesn't cut it. Can't comment on the food. We left..... won't be back either.
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
Very clean restaurant small but everything was delicious. The wait staff is very friendly and the coffee is very good I enjoyed my time there and will be back...!
google avatar

Craig F.

Yelp
Gotta love this best place to have breakfast on the weekends!! It's located closest to Dickies Arena!!
google avatar

Cian D.

Yelp
When we walked in the place was full and after an awkward exchange they took my name. A couple came in after us but was for whatever reason seated at the bar then at the table that opened up all while we stood awkwardly. We ended up eating in the spot the other couple waited to be seated. The food was average at best. Hash browns aren't crispy and seem to come out of a casserole. I asked for eggs over medium cause I hate a lot of yolk but they came over easy. Toast was cold. I've had much better diner experiences at other places. Our waitress was nice but was clearly very stressed so sending the food back or telling her it wasn't good didn't really seem like an option.
google avatar

Beverly B.

Yelp
EXCELLENT! We've tried to come before but the line was crazy long. We knew it had to be good. And it was!! Glad we gave it a second try and got in at the right to beat the crowd!
google avatar

Tonyua L.

Yelp
Local Little Hole in the Wall, coffee is hot, food is good, company is always better. Counter service, place is small so expect a wait "outside"...did I mention the place is small? Only breakfast served on Saturday. Don't work local so never been in for lunch. Eat Local...Support Small Business...Come for the Wait...Stay for the Experience.
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
Have been on several occasions...including recent. Have to say the food is just OK, maybe fair is better description...not great, and definitely not as good as some other breakfast cafes local to FW. Nothing stood out as poor...but nothing was really worth coming back for either. Cool old cafe vibe...and mediocre breakfast foods. If your Saturday breakfast is a part of your weekly diet cheat...then definitely don't waste it on MSC. If your Saturday breakfast is just a place to grab a few eggs and a biscuit...then MSC will suit you just fine.

Yelp
Historic and open since 1939 for a reason. Good food, coffee, service, prices, ambiance and location. Small and cozy inside.
