Google
A traditional style/atmosphere, we sat at a booth like area, which I really liked. The food is good with great portions. Well seasoned and not too sweet. One thing is different from other Thai places is that the curry dish doesn’t include rice or noodles. Will need to pay extra for it. Overall, a nice place to enjoy food and drinks

I had the Thai Fried rice with Tofu, the Ginger Chicken, and a Thai Ice Tea, at the end of their Lunch rush. The Thai Fried Rice was lovely until I got towards the end, the tofu had been fried, so wasn't too soft and the rice had great flavor. It wasn't until I got to towards the end of the dish it was very salty. I am a clear my plate sort of girl, and I didn't do that here. It was food. I needed food. I wish the great flavor it started with continued throughout the plate. It is like someone salted half the plate with extra salt. I still ate. Verdict: OKAY Ginger Chicken: This was disappointing. The chicken was dry and chewy, I thought the chicken would have been basted in ginger, but instead the dish is more brothy like than a sauce The mushrooms had more flavor than the chicken and they barely had flavor. Ginger was sliced into julienne pieces, but there weren't enough on the plate to make the ginger flavor consistent. The bites that had ginger were much better. Verdict: SKIP Thai Tea: Rich with a beautiful color. DRINK THIS. The atmosphere is amazing. Clean and peaceful. No loud blaring television. Windows that fully slide open, very clean, not cramped or crammed full of decoration, simple and welcoming. Someone clearly unhoused and addicted came in and the guy had to tell him that they charge for water but told him exactly where to go so he could get water on the same block. Verdict: SKIP. Unsure if it was because they were preparing for dinner or what happened here, but I cannot recommend as both dishes had issues.

Google
The foods are standard. A little bit boring and no authentic flavor. The mushroom in our soups are raw. The vibe is nice. A lot of local people visits this place. I would recommend to come here for a drink rather than foods

Google
Great food! Coconut soup was authentic and delicious. I had the chicken madness and it was so good

Google
Cozy restaurant with delicious food right next to Tufts/Chinatown! I actually saw the ginger & scallion plate online, immediately wanted to try it and was not disappointed at all! I paired it with beef and sticky rice ($3.50 extra), and for appetizers I tried the Thai wings! The only criticism I have is that I wish the wings were cooked more with the sauce instead of a dip. Still very crispy and fresh! For my drink I tried the Peachy Paradise, and it was pretty sweet, light liquor, but not my favorite. Next time I will definitely try the Pom Cosmo (I’m looking for the best Cosmos in Mass if anyone has suggestions 👀). I give this place a 10/10 either way because my waitress was nice , I enjoyed my time there and the food didn’t take long to come out at all.

Google
They were able to seat us and serve us very quickly despite it being very busy. The food was delicious and service even better. Gf and vegetarian options too.

Google
Always the fun time going here. They have great food and nice drinks but the service can be slow at times. If you don’t mind waiting a bit and are craving Thai. This is a great place to go to.

Google
Before I get to the food, i want to talk about the service. I went on a Sunday night, it was very busy, every table was filled with only 2 servers. Understaffed is an understatement. the food definitely helped their scoring, because I was growing impatient with the waitress, however, she was very nice and the meal I ate was her recommendation. Chicken Paanang Curry paired with a Thai iced tea. It was very delicious. Had the right amount of spice and a sweet milky base. The atmosphere could use either some music, or ambient noise. A lot of background chatter. Not my thing but could be yours.

Yelp
The food and drinks were very good and the service as well. I did not know about this place and happened upon it after the theater. I would definitely go back another time! The bar is a great place to watch a game as well.

Yelp
THAI cuisine is my fav cuisine and i have eaten it world over ! This was by far the worst ! Which self respecting thai restaurant uses fettuccine noodles for drunken noodles !! No real flavor was added bonus ! Pls AVOID !

Yelp
I ate lunch here this week and discovered upon arriving that it was very familiar. So clearly I have eaten here before on other trips. I had the coconut soup with seafood and some spring rolls. Both were tasty. The service was simple and efficient, which is always helpful for a work lunch when I need to get in and out quickly.

Yelp
Stopped at Montien for dinner on a Tuesday night. It was about 8/8:30 pm and very quiet. (There was a couple at the bar and then us.) They have giant windows that open which is great - not sure if they don't have AC or just had it turned off but it was nice to have the fresh air. Our server was very friendly and attentive and the service was impressively fast. We ordered Thai Iced Teas (and water) for drinks and the Drunken Noodles and Red Curry, both with Chicken. The Thai Iced Teas were amazing and the food was great!! The meals came out so fast and the food was hot and flavorful. Keep in mind, if there is a spicy indicator (), it is spicy!! I ordered the Drunken Noodles "mild" but wow, it was spicy!!!
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
Very close to a five on this! I was so pleasantly surprised by this restaurant outside by the theater district. I stopped by before a show. Service was quick and the staff was helpful. This is a no frills restaurant but the food was flavorful it didn't need any extra flair! This was some of the best red curry I have had in boston. A neighboring table had drunken noodles that looked divine! I will definitely be going back to try more

Yelp
Went after work on a weekday so it was pretty empty. The server was so nice and made jokes, even the bartender when the drinks were too strong for us he remade again and added so it was perfect. The thai tea cocktail was interesting it was on the strong side definitely but I would say if you would like to just ask for more of the tea part, it wasn't too sweet so it was perfect for me. We got papaya salad which at first wasn't on the menu but when I asked he said there was another menu so keep on the look out for that if you want a more detailed version of Thai dishes. I do wish the papaya salad was more sauced though it was lacking a little and was a little on the firm side but it had a nice spice to it. The dishes were good they had a good amount of seasoning and the soup was refreshing.

Yelp
Delicious food and friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommend. And when the weather permits, they have huge windows that they open. The fresh air is nice.

Yelp
Such a great lunch here today. Service was top notch, food was delicious and it's got a nice authentic feel. Def a place to try if you're a fan of Thai food! In order for me to give 5 stars, it has to be out of this world- but this is close!

Tanya S.

Yelp
The food was incredibly authentic, delicious, and the service was phenomenal. The price was very affordable as well.

Yelp
Years ago I used to work in Boston, and Montier was some of the best Thai. Great location, just outside of Chinatown, near the theater district. Was in town for a show, and stopped here for a pre-show dinner. I was amazed at how affordable the prices were, and no skimflation either! I ordered the classic Pad Thai, my wife ordered a salad with minced chicken & lime she saw on their online menu. Both were delicious and plentiful.
google avatar

m l.

Yelp
Was not expecting such good food. Thought was just a tourist trap being near several hotels and in the theater district. Pleasantly surprised.

Donald R.

Yelp
This review is solely on the service. Because the food is incredibly awesome, fresh, and full of clover . When we arrived the hostess walked up to us, said nothing, no smile, nothing. So we said 2 please and were seated. But she did not give us the authentic Thai menu whiz is the main reason of going. Took forever for her to take out dink order, then to take our dinner order in a very slow time of day. I had to go to the bar to get another glass of wine because she could not be found. Later realized why! She was to busy sitters at a table talking to someone. So I quess I should apologize to her for interrupting her to sit is, and wait on us.

Yelp
Excellent drinks, very strong, the Thai chicken was crispy and the sauce was sweet. I had the drunken noodles, careful lt has heat. The teriyaki bowl was delicious. If you are going to a show swing by before the show and grab a mai Thai which my husband says is the best he has had. The margarita was delicious as well. The service was excellent, the drinks huge and the food was delicious. The ambiance was calm until the rush came in-lol

Yelp
Montien has some positives that matter: Good food and service. The downside is that the interior of the restaurant is in need of an upgrade. This includes the bathrooms. We ordered a couple of appetizers and mains and were happy enough. Spring rolls, dumplings, crispy noodle Pad Thai, and Massaman Curry hit the spot. The staff were very friendly. If the ownership has any pride they'll shut down and renovate as soon as possible.

Yelp
I remember dining here frequently in the past (about 10 years ago) and enjoying their food. As of recent, anything I order from here lacks flavor. I like my food extra spicy and that seems to be the only thing that they deliver. The flavors are not there for any of the dishes I've had. The basil leaf sauce has no taste. I always get salmon and am disappointed. It's always overcooked, hard and very bland. The duck is also very bland but it is tender.
google avatar

Lily S.

Yelp
Went for a pre-show dinner. Food was good but they were swamped so service was a bit slower than usual. Thankfully we had two hours to kill so no rush on our end. Would still recommend, but would say to give yourself more time if it's on a weekend evening.
google avatar

Tyler C.

Yelp
Convenient, fast and efficient. I enjoyed a quick lunch here with the spice level a bit higher than I would have liked.

Yelp
Montien is still my fave Thai spot. Mind you, I've been to Asian , but admittedly not Thailand yet. Everything is so yummy and the service is awesome
google avatar

Lan T.

Yelp
We ordered drunken noodle, mango sticky rice and some other things. The drunken noodle was ok. Mango sticky rice was very good!!! One of the best mango sticky rice I've ever had. They use the Asian mango with it, which is very sweet and goes well with the sticky rice! Service was just ok.

Jen H.

Yelp
Mediocre at best. The drinks were fine. Decors is shabby, food overcooked , too saucy and everything had been frozen. Nothing fresh. Don't bother.

Neile G.

Yelp
I don't usually write reviews, but I'm writing this to warn people about this restaurant. DON"T EAT HERE!!! We had the worst experience. The service was very slow. We waited at least 40 minutes after ordering for the food to come. We were a party of 6, and when the food finally came, we didn't all receive our meals at the same time. The food delivery was spread out with 3 people receiving their food, then 2 others a few minutes later, then the final person a few minutes after that. The final person to get their food was given a different item than they ordered! Having waited so long already, we didn't have time to wait for the correct item. The food was cold and tasted awful. The appetizers were overcooked and seemed like they had been fried in oil that hasn't been changed in weeks. The entrees were terrible and the taste was very bland. We complained to the waitress and asked for a manager. The manager never came to the table, but the waitress told us that he removed the entree that was the wrong item and took 10% off the rest. That was not adequate compensation for the slow service, the poor food quality and receiving the wrong item. I will never go back to this restaurant and I want to warn others to avoid it. What a waste of money!!!
google avatar

Henri R.

Yelp
Tasteless chicken and rice. $15 for a dinner plate after a long day and I'm extremely disappointed. This place is not for flavor seekers, I can barley taste any seasoning or salt in the meal. The best thing was the fried crab wontons smh. $27 for a let down...Never again!
google avatar

Keith N.

Yelp
We had tickets for a show at The Wilbur and we searched for somewhere within a block or two from the theater. Montien showed up in the results, and since we haven't had Thai in awhile, we made a reservation. We're so glad we did! The food was excellent as was the service. We will definitely go back!
google avatar

Micah H.

Yelp
Sooo yucky. My pad se ew was old and had to ask for it to be taken back or I would have for sure gotten sick if I kept eating it. Not sure how this place is in business and was super sad that for such a beautiful restaurant, they are serving such disgusting food
google avatar

Jean H.

Yelp
This place is truly a neighborhood gem! The decor is a bit dated though possibly authentic, but the food is really something...highly recommend their red curry with tofu, roast duck curry, and sticky mango rice (warm).
google avatar

Asmah A.

Yelp
Food was very spicy even though we asked for medium spice. On the expensive side. They even added 18% gratuity for 3 people and said that was mandatory. Do not recommend
google avatar

Jules D.

Yelp
I Iike the food here! Service was good and people were friendly. Would eat here again.
google avatar

Katelyn N.

Yelp
Appetizers were subpar, my chicken satay was pink in the middle, but had the best peanut sauce i've ever tried.. no cucumber salad though): papaya salad was on the fishier side with the sauce, not tart enough. thai tea was good but not the thai iced coffee. Drunken noodle was the best i've ever tried, pad thai was also delicious and flavorful. YUM! come for the entrees, SKIP the apps!
google avatar

Randi L.

Yelp
The food was fair . The apps were warmed up and overcooked. We ordered cheese cake and came frozen since it probably was in the freezer . The restaurant needs to be updated too

Sarah H.

Yelp
The service is great but the food is merely edible. Ive been three times and I've been unable to get them to serve me anything spicy at all. The drunken noodles have two chili peppers next to it in the menu but what was served to me could perhaps be generously labeled mild. Very disappointing to go to a Thai place and not be able to get any spice at all.
google avatar

Renee L.

Yelp
My absolute favorite place for takeout ! The curry is INCREDIBLE. I've gotten a few different kinds and each carries such distinct, delicious flavor. Highly recommend!

JJ J.

Yelp
Got there in mid afternoon just before lunch menu expired. Service was quick. Clean place. Felt cozy. It was so humid out that we just drank water. I got padthai noodles with a lot of chicken! Buddy got mango curry. Shared chick fried rice, crab wontons, and pork dumplings. Food was phenomenal. It all tasted great. I wished I had ordered some takeout for the hotel. I'd definitely go there again.

Yelp
The only reason this restaurant still exists is because there's a complete lack of Thai food presence in Chinatown. The food is mediocre and the service-- slow, rude, completely appalling. We ordered take out at 5:30pm via a secondary food service, and was told that the food would be ready by 6:11. However, when my husband arrived to pick it up, he was told "your food is not ready and we don't know when and if it will be ready". How is this response even acceptable for a business to give customers? Well... my husband couldn't wait indefinitely, so I ended up calling the restaurant to confirm order pick up time (no one picked up, surprise). After not being able to get a hold of someone on the phone, I drove back to the restaurant at 7pm, spoke to someone at the bar who hastily and much to her dismay, told me to wait ("we have been serving other customers first") and that they will "make your food now"... IT IS 7PM! Not sure how an order placed at 5:30, that was supposed to be picked up at 6:11, wasn't even started on until 7pm. Never coming back here again.

Exxon L.

Yelp
Overpriced average food. Order three separate dishes. They were ok. Noodle dish was bland. Ordered two cocktails that were watered down.

Yelp
I've had a lot of Thai food in my life. In fact, I've made it a mission of mine to find the best Pad Thai in the US... trying it wherever I go. But when I walked in and sat down at Montien and began talking with the owner, my goal changed. She handed me an authentic dishes menu and the normal menu. I asked her what the differences were and we began chatting about the nuances and flavors and what I liked to eat for about 10 minutes (it was a slow evening). She helped me settle on a spicy basil dish with ground chicken. It is honestly one of the best dishes I've ever had in my life... the heat from the chilies, the floral notes from the basil, and the balance from the veggies and chicken mixed perfectly together. It was the right balance of spicy, salty, fat, and sweet. It wasn't swimming in grease or oil too, like I've unfortunately experienced at a number of Thai restaurants. Mixed with rice, it was perfect for sopping up all the delicious sauce that was lighting my mouth (and taste buds) on fire. The prices are pretty low too. I got enough food for two meal for less than $30, which can be tough in the city. I was treated to not only a meal but an education on Thai cuisine that I had not been aware of prior to... and I'm grateful that she was willing to take the time to share her culture with me. I've made this my go-to Thai restaurant when I'm in the theatre district. It may not look like much from the outside... but it's inside where the magic happens. I highly recommend stopping by and trying the authentic dishes menu, it can be overwhelming... but don't be afraid to ask for a guide down the unbeaten path.

Yelp
Food 3/5 Staff 5/5 Unfortunately my minimal interaction with staff (ordering takeout and picking it up/paying) doesn't really bring my overall ranking of this place to a 4/5. So a solid 3/5 ranking shall do. I ordered takeout on the phone for pickup. Pleasant, standard ordering experience. When I arrived at the restaurant, all of the food I ordered was all ready to go - perfect! I ordered 25 or so minutes in advance and did not have to wait at all.. a staff member greeted me immediately and I informed him I ordered takeout. So the reason why I am giving this place a 3/5... I ordered tofu yellow curry with (standard) white rice and the curry, while good, just wasn't anything special. I ate it because I was hungry... it tasted a bit bland, not really flavorful and just... OK. I also ordered a Thai iced tea which they gave to me in a large sized cup. It was refreshing and not too sweet - yummy! My boyfriend ordered beef pad see ew and he enjoyed it but then again he was starving before eating. I am a bit of an americanized Thai food snob and have tried yellow curry and pad see ew (those are basically the only dishes I ever order) in multiple Thai restaurants across the country and this place, while okay, just didn't really wow me. Their dishes are missing flavor! Kinda a bummer since the staff and this place seems nice. On the bright side, I did appreciate the warm greeting when I entered the restaurant, and how the takeout was nicely packaged in black containers and handed to me in a nice sturdy brown paper bag.
google avatar

Gerald H.

Yelp
Finally got to try Thai for dinner here. Fast warm greeting and seating, our daiquiris-were great one strawberry and one mango, chicken appetizer was a good start, the entrees were awesome Lime salad with lemon grass and shrimp and the crispy chicken on tempura veggies were great. Clean and good atmosphere.

Yelp
We visited Montein for dinner on Saturday. There were six of us. We got seated pretty quickly because we had a reservation, but it was about a 15-minute wait before we had to chase down one of the staff to order our drinks and appetizers. It was a busy night! Appetizers came first, then the drinks - but there wasn't much of a delay. Then we had to again chase down another staff member to order our main course. Their menu had a 'Vegan' option, which was great - we had two vegans in our party that night. The dish called 'Paradise' under the Vegan section looked great. The description was as follows - "Sautéed with steamed Tofu, Mushrooms, Pineapple, Carrot, Scallions and Cashew Nuts in a light sauce". Approximately 20-25 minutes later they brought the first of our orders. We expected the rest of our food to also follow shortly. But 20 minutes later, they brought the second order. 10 minutes later they brought the rest of our food. Up until now, it was just a delay associated with a busy restaurant in downtown Boston on a Saturday night (Although, by this time a lot of the guests had started to leave) They brought the Paradise (the vegan dish I mentioned above), and it had pieces of chicken in it. Huge chunks of white meat. We called another one of their staff members and asked the question. She was not the least apologetic. In fact, she said their Paradise has chicken unless you specifically ask for it to be served without meat. This is probably the most outrageous thing I have ever heard. Why have something listed under the 'Vegan' section if it comes with chicken. At this point, we asked her to take it back and bring us the true Vegan Paradise dish. This really was their chance to fix it. But what they brought back was basically just steamed vegetables in sauce. It did not include mushrooms, pineapples, or cashew nuts as the menu stated. Either their chefs had no clue what was listed on the menu or they completed missed the point. Finally, I had to go find their manager and ask him to fix it. His excuse was that they had a busy night. I understand that - it's Boston, on a Saturday night. But, it's no excuse to make mistakes over and over again and not even offer a single apology in return. I am giving this place two stars because the food wasn't horrible. Service would be a big ZERO. They automatically added a 18% gratuity to our check, but if I had a choice about it, the gratuity would have been far less than 18%. Advice to management: Treat your customers well, pay attention to what customers order. We all make mistakes, but have the willingness to learn from your mistakes and fix them.

Yelp
I came to Montien as most restaurants in Chinatown were packed for weekend lunch/dim sum. I ordered the pad see ew which was ok but I've had better. The staff was friendly and attentive throughout my visit. It is a bit pricier than other similar restaurants but it's expected for the area. I would stop again but maybe try something else.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
Just ate here with the family for the first time. The Bad - service was crazy slow. Only 4 tables when we came in and then the place really began to fill up. We watched 3 tables who came in after us get served first. The Good - the food was delicious. Portion size was a lot for us. I honestly could have done with a smaller portion and a lower price. That being said, price was on par with similar quality establishments. The wife, daughter and I all really enjoyed our food. Conclusion- this is a place to sit and eat and enjoy good company with good food.
google avatar

Maggie W.

Yelp
The delivery service was good, but the food was bad. The wings taste really blend, and the noodle I got tasted totally different from what drunken noodle should taste like... won't order from here again
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
I came here with my friend for lunch. The drunken noodles were pretty standard. The mango curry was interesting and delicious although the chicken was a little dry. I must commend the waitress for her service. She gave off a very kind vibe and when she found out they messed up my order (they initially put in tofu instead of chicken), she immediately had them make me another one. Took less than 5 minutes. I also tried Thai coffee for the first time. Tastes similar to Vietnamese coffee but it was delicious. Would like to try Thai coffee a few more times to make a more definitive opinion. Ambience is great for a chill lunch and conversation.

Mark D.

Yelp
I have been going to Montien for about twenty years. I loved the food. I went last night and was very disappointed. The great menu, food, and service is gone. The restaurant must be under new ownership. Montien is gone, and the new owner should change the name of the restaurant. Montien had the best pad thai and chicken satay. I was shocked how bad the pad thai tasted, and the chicken satay was not very good either. The dinner ended with the server putting a card on top of the check that said " please leave a cash tip". I really want to let fans of Montien know that a new thai restaurant has opened in the same location.
google avatar

Bruce K.

Yelp
Despite not having a lot of heat, the Pad Thai at Montien was very tasty. A lunch sized portion and cooked properly with a tasty sauce and plenty of chicken, it definitely hit the spot. It is a nice restaurant. Clean and fancy inside. Definitely one of the nicer Oriental restaurants that I've enjoyed in Boston's Chinatown. No yelling staff. Tables not crowded on top of each other. It is a little spendy for lunch but tasty and filling.

Yelp
Came here with my mom on a sat night at 6pm. Not busy at all, only 4 tables with 1 table leaving. We sat there for 15 minutes, looked at the menu, made eye contact with every single person that worked there. There was two girls that would look at us and then just talk to each other. We went to the bar and placed an order to go. The lady at the bar was apologetic. Later one of those girls came up to us and just stood there and didn't say anything. Awkwardly, I told her we ordered to go... While we were waiting for our order to go, another couple came and their drink order was taken instantly. Not sure why we were treated different but it was disrespectful. Another couple ended up being sat at our table and it hasn't been wiped, we had touched the utensils and everything. Nothing was switched out. They got 2 stars instead of 1 because the food was good.

John A.

Yelp
The wife and I had dinner here, 4/19/2023, around 7pm. We walked in and we're seated right away. There was only three other tables seated. I had the Crab Wontons and Red Curry Chicken. The wife had the Tom Yum Soup and the Green Curry Chicken. The wontons had a great crunch and crab flavor. A little chewier than I would have like. The Tom Yum was well flavored with the classic sour-salt-sweet-heat mix. Very good on a colder (40ish degrees) night in Boston. Our curries were fantastic! My Red curry was a nice balance of sweet, cream, and umami. The bamboo shoots gave it nice texture. Bell peppers and onions rounded out the dish. Chicken was thinly sliced and plentiful. I only tried my wives Green Curry sauce. It was also excellently flavored. We also got a Pad Se Eew Tofu to go for my daughter. I also tasted that and it was GOOD! Place was clean and nicely decorated, if not dated. Red everywhere. Highly recommend if you are in the meal.

Yelp
Can't believe it took me forever like seriously years and years of me living in Boston to come over here. And the irony is I love Thai food. Came for the lunch specials and was very delighted to see such huge portions. Food was definitely flavorful and the service was very very sweet and helpful. Loved all my dishes had the Phad See You with beef which was great except the beef could have been a better cut of beef... Tasted a little bit like shoulder cut and little dry. The choo chi duck with rice was excellent and the mango sticky rice was delicious. Overall it was tasty and I would consider coming here again for dinner because they do have an authentic Thai dinner menu.

Yelp
I stay at hotel across the street and decided to check this place out for lunch. I started with tom yum chicken and pad Thai, it was okay nothing to write home about. I waited a very long time for my food, it's lunch time and they should be quick for food. Make sure you have plenty of time to wait.

Yelp
Service was not good. Arrived at 11:55 and brought to a table by a very unfriendly staff member. This same person was also our waitress. She came back after 10 minutes to take our order. She was rushed and almost impatient with us. Didn't ask about drinks which we had to ask for water as she was walking away. Prices have skyrocketed there as well. The food was ok. Ambiance is missing. Window open in front with truck exhaust fumes coming in. Not going back here again.
