This hotel holds a special place in my heart. More than a decade ago, I worked at their front desk as an agent and night auditor, when it was called Le Montrose, but sadly had to leave due to my own inability, at that time, to arrive at work on time. I was genuinely broken hearted because I loved the job and loved the people working there.
Fast forward over a decade since then, I've left the hospitality industry altogether and work from home, I had the chance to pay a nostalgic re-visit to the newly redesigned Montrose as a few days add on to a business conference I was attending in San Diego just prior. The opportunity presented itself to pop up to LA for a nostalgic tour of the town after having been for 5 years. First place I thought of staying was Montrose.
Lemme tell ya...it did NOT disappoint. Every reason and feeling I initially developed for vibing with this hotel in the WeHo Hills was rekindled and then some.
The neighborhood and the hotel partner together to keep the surroundings quiet and serene, so let me make it clear before I continue...this is NOT a "party" establishment. It is quiet, easy going, and respectful of each other's peace yet engaging and approachable. Those considering, please know and respect that before booking a stay.
To all my fellow queer travelers out there, WeHo destination travelers, and queer friendly Ally's, my gift to you. Bookmark this review and keep this spot on your list. It is very LGBTQIA friendly. Consider this a welcoming safe space. Contact the hotel directly to inquire, or check the trades, booking sites, and misterb&b.com for rates and accommodation deals, dates, and rates.
To all my fellow Black / minority travelers, same deal. Bring the kindness and good vibes only and you will be met with some love!! This is a spot you can breathe and relax in. Just bring swimwear for the rooftop pool during the daytime, and a sweater or hoodie for nighttime...the view from up there is POPPIN!! Panoramic view of everything, from Downtown LA to Century City and the WeHo Hills behind and above you, Hotel is nestled in the hill south of Sunset Blvd, several blocks north of Santa Monica Blvd. We didn't even bother leaving the hotel to try and get into space to watch the fireworks. We watch multiple simultaneous displays happen between Downtown and Century City, Mid Wilshire, all at once right from the rooftop pool with wine glasses in hand.
The Suite - We stayed in one of their King Suites and had a secluded little patio, sliding glass door and window shutters, with a full view of the street. Came with a full kitchen and mini fridge, dining area and table, fireplace, L-shaped couch, side tables and coffee table, daily replenish-able coffee set up, Keurig machine, 70's inspired gold liquor cart, 2 large flat screen mounted 60 inch plasma screen tv's in the livingroom and bedroom areas, chromecast and streaming equipped on both. Full king size bed, ample storage, closets, cupboards, and drawers for luggage, full walk in bathroom and I mean a full separated room. Full walk-in shower, sink for two, full closet for clothes storage in the bathroom, and another room separating the toilet from the rest of the bathroom. Each room is separated by a stylish sliding barn door design. Towels and malin + goetz toiletries replenished daily and upon request.
The entire room was adorned with modern art selections representing the LA and West Hollywood vibe, feel, and culture. The walk-in shower had an Instagrammable wall backdrop, and OF COURSE that got a few snapshots in front of it.
Ordering in the area - all the apps will deliver, and they have in-room and poolside dining, market for smaller items across from the front desk, and dining in the lobby floor lounge available, check or call for their hours.
The Staff - were a major reason this nostalgic stay was so magical and meaningful for me. I'm now back in NYC, but writing this post with much gratitude! The staff was so lovely to us!! Kind, engaging, fun, and approachable. Multicultural, Hollywood chic, LGBTQIA friendly and "family", nice, real people.
Having already worked on staff before, I have a genuine respect for their hard work, but returning here as a guest allowed me to experience Montrose from a whole different perspective. Our every need was met with affirmation, no stress, no combative energy, or haggling, just the most easy going and caring vibe. Had real human and fun moments with these people.
Special thank you's to Odalisa (Ody), Scott, and the rest of the front desk team, David, Arturo and the rest of his Valet team, Dante and the rest of them Service teams in the lounge and poolside, your efforts and kindness made this re-visit incredibly special. I'm writing this a little misty and with so much respect and gratitude to you all. Damn well fell in love with this place all over again and you'all were part of the reason why.
Sincerely, much gratitude, and with much respect back....Thank you all!
