It's too hot and there's too much to do today. So I decided to pick up the pork goulash with some potato pancakes. Smak! It was good! The Polish alternative to meat and potatoes, right? I mostly needed food staples and found some items on sale, and that's a bonus. The young people there are very polite. The store is clean.

Is a small gem in the neighborhood, when short on time for cooking this is my place to go not the other chain restaurants but here. The store has a bit of everything, including polish products which I love the polish kétchup. Please know everyone is appreciated and don’t go anywhere! Thank you!

Absolutely amazing! We had a bridal shower in April that needed appetizers and desserts. Ana is so professional and knowledgeable about how much we needed. She went above and beyond to make our event perfect. Her team is also spectacular- they set up and design the tables - I was very impressed - and so were my guests. It was beautiful! Definitely going to have them do the same for the wedding in June! I highly recommend them. They offer more than Polish food - their appetizers are multi cultural (their sushi was so fresh!!) and their desserts and presentation is far more superior than other bakeries and catering vendors. Thank you Ana!!

Typically we love this place. The food is awesome and the staff is great. Unfortunately we had a bad experience today as a staff member asked us if we had service dog papers for our small very sweet old dog (which I do have papers for but did not have with me). Other than that, the deli ladies are awesome and the food is great. Just watch out for the mean lady who hates dogs and bring service dog paper work with you!

After months of getting ads in newspaper ads, 5.99 seemed to be a great price. Usually go 5 blocks away for 3 tacos and coke for 7.00 Jonnie beef dogs/fries 7.00 Today I own a company 5 blocks away and live 3 blocks away. It was passed over and they waited on the Polish customers behind me. How am I supposed to digest this since I'm not Polish?I asked the woman after she gave the guy behind me his meal I said am I in the line? She said yes and kept walking a polish guy behind me (a customer) stepped in for some reason acting as if I was out of line and asking. Since I had no desire to deal with the police for standing up as an American I left. Will never go there ever. I have heard from 2 others who went there and were also treated as C similar to anyone who has gone to Jerry in Niles

This place is incredible. The hot food deli,the butcher's counter, the cold salads, the bread and rolls. I realize this sounds like an exageration, but it's the best grocery store deli and meat counter I've ever seen in the city of Chicago.

Fresh hot rolls, yes please! First time here and was amazed at the variety of foods sold here. It's a spacious store with a huge parking lot and the lines moved quickly.

Lunch specials and freshly prepared food daily for reasonable prices. My co worker recommended me to Montrose Deli. She said she worked there while she was at school and said it was very clean. I love coming here for their daily specials. It can be very busy around lunch but well worth it.

Montrose Deli Catering did an amazing job catering my wedding during coronavirus on Sept 2020 at Loft Lucia, Chicago. I had been planning this event for over 12 months and met with Ms. Anna to go over the menu, set up details, and more. She was extremely knowledgable and helpful in making my wedding a smooth event. Additionally, she was responsive special asks I had for my wedding menu (for example, the Chef created a custom arugula salad based on our preferences). When the wedding finally took place, Ms. Anna & her catering crew did a fantastic job setting up the tablescape (plates, silverware, glassware), buffet set-up, as well as creating a beautiful charcuterie table. Her staff also took all necessary precautions needed during the pandemic (masks, hand sanitizer, gloves, making sure guest didn't touch serving utensils, etc.) The set up of everything was beautiful, the food was delicious, and I could not be happy with how everything came out!! Thank you for everything!

Do not recommend this place, very racist people. They do not acknowledge you if you are not polish or speak it. As I was waiting for my number to be called, for about 10minutes, I noticed that they do not change gloves when handling the deli and raw meat products. I did not purchase anything because of this, unprofessional and unsanitary.

With a family your always looking for a bargain. With the rise of the fruit market you're able to find products from the old country as well as new favorites. Being able to find that gem of an item is always great. Montrose Deli will have it. Polish, German, Greek, Italian, Russian you'll find it here. And at a phenomenal price. I have been to all of them, few compare. The staff is totally friendly, with an exception at the costumer service counter but hey, what can you do not everyone can pull off taking care of people. Every single person other than that individual has been a delight and eager to please. Thier already prepared food is hot, fresh and delicious. Don't get me started on the cakes, to die for. Bread is the freshest I've had outside of Europe. The rye is a personal favorite. Usually very good produce, although sometimes their sell overly ripe avocados and rotten fruit. Good selection of regular and international brands, as well as liquor and dessert items. Good quality meat, chicken, lamb, and fish. Prices are usually pretty good. Store seems to be well run, but sometimes they need to open up additional checkout lanes sooner when things get backed up. I now drive completely out of our way to get here but it's worth the trip!

Ania is super woman! Ania and her team did an amazing job with communication before the wedding and afterwards to cater for Poprawiny! The food is just AMAZING! It was so good for our late night snack along with the main courses and snacks for the Poprawiny. The only negative is that they could not deliver the food later than 8pm on my wedding so my caterer had to place It on the tables. Which meant we couldn't get the meat cart package that included a beautiful layout. If you are looking for late night food to be delivered around 10-11am for your wedding, they might not be the best option. Our caterer had no issues with placing the trays of food in the fridge until 10:30pm to be severed to our guests. Overall, I highly recommend ordering catered food from Montrose Deli.

I am dying today in pain after eating picked cucumber soup yesterday, it's a Polish staple, it can be a very tasty soup, normally. My head is pounding since they use MSG in all their cooking(Vegeta is used as salt and as a flavor enhancer)I got sick here before ,6 months ago to be exact,with their roasted duck. Ignorance of the management is endless-she offered no explanation-she said she does not know, how the cooks cook. I regularly pay big bills for my groceries but I expect to get a good return. If you want to get sick-come to Montrosse Deli. Here you can get rid of you liver, kidneys and your stomach.Vegata is cancerous.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Authentic Polish Food in a deli case? Yes, please. Chicken livers with onions. Potato pierogi. Kapusta Kwasna (sour kapusta) Fried mielony kotlet. Dill Pickle Soup. And you have to try the Highlander Polish Sausage... delish. They have about 50 different types of sausage but the Highlander was suggested by the deli person.

Thank you so so much to Montrose deli for our dessert tables for our bridal shower and wedding, and for our chatka/food hut at our wedding. Everything was beautiful and delicious. I am amazed at how perfect everything looked and tasted. The food was a hit with our Polish, Ukrainian, American and Hispanic guests. (We also used them for catering for the day after party/poprawiny and the food was delicious!) Pani Ania was absolutely amazing to work with. She really took the time to listen to what we needed and wanted and made sure everything was great. All of the workers at the actual store and those who came to the locations were very sweet and helpful. We very highly recommend them and will be using them again in the future! Thank you again for everything!

Lived within 2 minutes walking distance for six years. If you're not Polish, don't bother; you might as well be a space alien. I look like my dad (brown hair and eyes) but my mother is Northern Italian (blonde and green). It's like they can smell it on you. You're a sixth class citizen. Pretty unique selection if you can deal with that.

Sometimes there can be a small crowd waiting at the deli, because of the delicious, fresh choices. But the great deli employees keep things moving along! Store has a wide variety of Polish items, From meats and soups to juices and baked goods, and everything in between. Also, you have to check out their hot meals to go counter, were you can chose delicious pork, chicken ,and other main dishes, along with tasty sides, to take home and enjoy.

I love this store, I used to live 2 minutes away, now I live about 20 minutes away, but still make the trip. They have a fabulous deli counter with all the sausage and variations of ham you could want, along with fresh meat and poultry and a variety of cheeses. They have a good selection of imported polish goods, such as pickles, sauerkraut, applesauce, beets, cookies and polish juice and soda drinks. They have fresh baked paczki's all the time and several other baked goods from other polish bakeries in the area. The best part is their hot meals! for $3.99 you get a main dish and two sides which is literally enough for two meals! it changes daily and there's usually a choice of three different main dishes. they also have homemade pierogies, blintzes and soups!

Chicago, Illinois My Ukie friend and I went to visit the Montrose Deli today for the first time. As I am not Polish nor Ukranian and my friend is 50/50 Polish and Ukrainian (Ulock) I took him along to show me the ropes. The Deli is definitely a place that stocks all things Polish/Ukrainian. If you are from Poland or the Ukraine, this is the place for you. The aisles are somewhat narrow so you have to be good at walking a tight rope. They have hand baskets to carry your purchases with you as you navigate down the aisles, no room for carts. They have a deli section for fresh meats and sausages ( of all varieties ) and a deli section for fresh prepared foods like breaded pork cutlets, varieties of chicken , stuffed cabbage, fresh mashed potatoes, ribs etc. They have a fresh produce section with fruits and vegetables etc. They carry specialty items that are familiar to Eastern European clientele. They even have cute little glass jars of jam with handles to be used as glasses for serving beverages after all the jam is gone. There is adequate parking adjacent to the west side of the store with an even larger parking lot directly across the street. Oh, and they have a bakery section with fresh breads and pastries and my favorite almond crescent rolls. They also have an extensive array of home soups including borscht. Everything is reasonably priced. If Polish/Ukranian food is your cup of tea, this is the place for you.

Medium size polish grocery store, variety of goods is medium. They mostly speak their language there. Out of their delis I got 'Kielbasa Poledwicowa z Indyka' - $5.29/lb, 'Kapusta kiszona, domowei roboty', 'Old world twarog' - the farmers cheese and pickles and everything was to my taste

Authentic polish deli and grocery store! I love this place the deli counter is amazing if you can get past all the old polish women without getting pushed, shoved or slapped! Just Kidding! The prices are amazing, the produce fresh. The fresh baked rolls are delicious. I love the variety of polish sausages and deli meats.

I went back this week, quick in and out because I wasn't sure they had change and I'm glad I did that. They're still not wearing their masks correctly which continues to make me uncomfortable, I don't when I will go back, but I will eventually try it again and hopefully they will have improved

Best place for Polish goods! We used to go to the location on Cicero and we were bummed when they closed since this is one is a little further away. We always come here for our pierogis, they are seriously the best in the city. Their kielbasa is fantastic and you really can't beat the price. During the holidays we always come here to pick up a Polish Christmas card for my fiancé's nana.

How can you go wrong in this place? For $3.99 their daily specials are stomach filling delicious and reasonably priced. Always fresh and flavor full. This is my go to place. When I'm there is also pick up some European pastries and delicacies. And I'm Asian for crying out loud!!! I will be coming to this place for a long long time.

Love love love this Polish grocery store! They're hot dinners and ready to eat foods are amazing and they have an awesome selection of Polish and European foods. And their bakery section has some of the best fresh baked breads, cakes, and pastries. I recommend this place to everyone!

Stopped in a Montrose Deli to check it out. This is a small local grocer that offers fresh fruits and vegetables, along with a full-out butcher and deli. I say this because it looked like half the staff was behind there and most of the patrons were waiting to be served here. Must be good meat. I am a supporter of local places like this. I you need some fresh baked goods, a cut of meat, or any other affordable ethnic food, stop by Montrose Deli.

I don't normally cook at home due to my inconsistent work schedule, so this little gem has become my "go-to" spot for all things grocery shopping! I love this place not only it's Polish (my favorite), but also it has a large selection of soup, hot Polish delicacies and pastries. By the way, the prices are fantastic. I can get all my lunch and dinner essentials here for under $20 and the amount of food can last me for at least six (6) meals! There are plenty of parking spots considering that this is still located in the city. Anyways, you guys should definitely pay a visit to this lovely place.

Great Polish store. Been shopping here for years. The store itself is not to big, but they manage to pack all this greatness into a rather small building. There is two parking lots, one attached to Montrose Deli, other across the street. Really great selection of deli products meats, cheeses etc. Everything is very fresh. In 15 years I haven't had any bad products from here. They sell really good soups, taste homemade and low price. They have Krupnik (Barley soup),Fasolka po Bretonsku (Bean soup), Flaczki (Tripe soup) Grzybowa (Mashroom soup) and many more. Great cakes and pastries and super fresh breads. Employees are wonderful. The ladies behind deli counter and the cashiers. Just today my mom was there and had some issue with her bill, the blond hair young gentleman behind one of the registers helped her by calling the manager. They resolved everything quickly and professionally. I highly recommend this place.

A great grocery store for cheaper and decent quality produce which doubles as a quick place to grab a bite to eat when on a budget. Their lunch specials are a staple item when I feel lazy to make my own food or go out somewhere further. I generally come here for the lunch special which includes sides and a main entree. The menu changes daily so you really do not know what is in store but the times that i went i got some friend chicken meatball thingy stuffed with cheese and spinach. Their mashed potatoes as a side is amazing! If ever in the area, do give it a try. Some good quality cheap authentic Polish food. What do I know about authentic polish though?

I typically love this place. However, I just left because employees' masks not covering their noses, customers with no masks on and a general disregard for any social distancing. I am safe and generally not too worried but this was like nothing I have seem in Chicago.

Yes, yes, and yes. Nothing beats their $4 hot dinner meals. Their soups are also delicious and their buffet selections are great. Love everything about this place!

The best place with European food in radius of 2 miles with its own parking lot. Dinner deal for 3.99 is the best. Prices better than in any American grocery store

My toddler son calls Montrose Deli the "cookie store". I can't blame him. Because shopping for staples like milk and bread is so boring. But picking up a container of fresh kolacky, well, that's got to be something kids of all ages would love. Montrose Deli is a great neighborhood store. It's now my go-to for the usuals,like bread, milk, fruits/veggies and prepared foods that come in handy for quick meals with no fuss. Everything is fresh and the price is right. Most recently I purchased some tomato soup, mushroom soup and potato/cheese pierogi from their prepared foods section and it was all quite good and again, the price was good too. Their deli counter is always busy--I have yet to check it out. Although their packaged Kabanosi (smoked Polish sausage, thinner than Kielbasa) was really tasty. MD has two parking lots, one adjacent and one across the street. I've visited on different weekdays, morning vs afternoon and the store is always busy. I don't want to try to visit on the weekends because if weekdays are any indication, then weekends must be crazeee! The store isn't that big and they use every inch of space so those narrow aisles might mean nightmares for the claustrophobic. Service is always pleasant. I like hearing the young cashiers speaking in Polish to the older customers. Easily a favorite place.

My favorte place to step by on the way back home from work. It is open up to 10 pm. The 3.99 dinmers are thr best.

This place has a great polish Deli and hot lunch for super cheap, especially if you go with the dinner special for 3.99. Either way though you'll be full spending five bucks.

The northwest side has a ton of options in small, independent Polish grocery stores. Most tend to emphasize one part of the grocery experience more than the others (at Gorsky's or Ideal it's the bakery, at Gene's it's all about the deli counter, etc). Montrose is the best, all-around, balanced, all-purpose neighborhood grocer of them all. So with a nice selection of just about everything, a person who lived near by could do all of their food shopping here and not miss out on much of anything, and never need to take a separate trip for their fruit juice or whatever. That's saying a lot for such a small store. As others have said, the place is always busy, and they have a parking lot across the street. I really do love the place, but they get knocked off one star for the snotty communist way they treated me when I wanted to order a couple of trays of kanapki for a party and they were too busy to do it because of Easter. I get it that everyone there speaks Polish as a first language, and I probably should have known that Easter's a big deal for Poles, but that's no reason to treat me like some kind of troublemaker for asking in English. Oh well, I still shop here sometimes on my way home... it's a good place.

Tasty and filling $3.99 meals, an old-fashioned meat counter (the ground chicken is excellent) and quality baked goods. Can't beat that combination.

I'm a little mixed about this place. I was a little put off by the SECURITY standing in front of the registers when you walk in. The purpose of my visit today was Oranges. I walk straight to their mini produce section. I was immediately turned off by the lighting. I felt like a blind person picking oranges. The price was great, but I couldn't SEE what I was getting. AnyHOW, I walked by the CROWDED deli counter and heard all the comotion (in Polish) so, I didn't bother really checking it out. I waited in a long line (I had 3 items and the person in front of me had a shopping-cart full) so I expected a little courtesy, "go ahead" NOT. I figured waiting wouldn't kill me ... here comes a girl and announces something in POLISH ... I step over (relief) and pay for my 3 items. I'd give this place another chance, as the person in front of me and the people in line around me had great items ... anyhow, if you don't speak Polish your in a disadvantage... if you have the patience, check it out. I'd go back.

This is a good Polish shop. You wouldn't know it by the sign though. The produce is stunning and really clean. The store is neat. NO ONE speaks any English, which is ok, but they don't even know the English names of their own products, so be prepared for a lot of pointing. The only draw back is that I didn't like their periogis- potato and cheese or mushroom and cabbage. Which was really disappointing, and I couldn't really tell you why, the dough is a bit mushy and the fillings are lack luster. Also the "smoked Polish sausage" was a bit dry. But I'm really a critic having grown up with home made peirogis and great sausages for the holidays.

I just moved to Portage Park a few months ago and I am happy to adopt Montrose Deli as my neighborhood store. The selection isn't huge, but it almost always meets my needs for the usual staple fruits and vegetables, milk, canned goods and the guilty pleasures like ice cream and polish pastries that regular people jones for on some random night. The prices are excellent. Case in point, I remember making tiramisu one night and I was short on marscapone. A half pound tub at Montrose Deli was $3. At a large chain grocery store the same brand would have cost me $5. Another great thing about this place is it's open at 7:00 AM. Forget an ingredient for breakfast? No problem! Need some milk at 9pm? No problem! They close at 10PM. This isn't a place you would drive five miles to visit, but if you live in the Portage Park area, give Montrose Deli a whirl.

Name sounds generic, but the clientele and much of the food is thoruighly Polish. Great Polish ham and sausage, nice salads and pierogi, and very good reasonable meet. Aisles have lots of Polish and European pantry items and there is also a small but decent produce section. Prices are extremely reasonable. One draaback is that they are so successful they need to expand -- tiny aisles are claustrophobic when it's busy.

I'm used to Western markets, even small ones. This one is tightly packed into its spacing. It's usually very busy- people everywhere around you and no personal space at all. Has a huge fresh meat case at the back. Go later in the evening unless you want to fight the crowds. I LOVE their to-go area. As a Masters student with almost zero time to cook (although I CAN cook, quite well) their to go area is amazing and cheaper than dirt. A pint of mushroom soup or lazanki (cabbage with pasta and bacon and heaven?) are each less than $2 (as of 9/8/2011.) They have an astounding array of butters and a really awesome cake/torte area. The clerks and most people in the store only speak Polish unless they hear you speak English and then they flip to English for you. I don't speak Polish, but that store is open till 10, and so I can go when I direly need study fuel.
