40 New Restaurants and Bars That Have Opened in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"At the H Mart food court I found a Moobongri Soondae stall specializing in soondae (Korean blood sausage) with plates of soondae and boiled pork, spicy soondae soup, bowls of beef brisket and spicy pork neck bone soup, and take-home gopchang (beef intestine) meal kits for Korean barbecue." - Candice Woo

Google
I really enjoyed beef back bone soup with glass noodles recommended by the cashier. The soup was flavorful, the meat isn’t too soft or chewy it’s just right. The price is a bit high compared to other food court places. Cashier was nice, quick service. Will come back to try other dishes.

This place was recommended by a Korean friend. I ordered the pork soup and it was flavorful with lots of pork, onions, noodles and yummy broth. It was a generous portion so I took half of it home and had it for dinner. Staff were friendly. I would go there again to try other dishes.

I ordered the Sundae set online. Everything else was fine—packaging was neat, and the food looked good. But they didn’t include chopsticks or a spoon, and they also left out the spicy paste, salted shrimp, and salt. Are you kidding me? Am I supposed to eat the soup without the paste or salt, and the sundae without any seasoning, using my hands? Completely unacceptable.

A restaurant where you can enjoy clean and flavorful Korean hot pot dishes Food: I ordered delivery via Uber Eats and tried both the sundae-guk (Korean blood sausage soup) and galbi-tang (beef short rib soup). The broth for both was clean and tasty. Each dish was around $20. Both soups came with a generous amount of meat, so I was very full. The sundae pieces were a bit small, but considering it's the U.S., I was satisfied. The kimchi that came with the meal was also sweet and delicious. Service: Basic condiments (pepper, salt, salted shrimp) were well-provided. The delivery arrived on time without any issues. Ambiance: Although I haven’t dined in person, the place is set up like a food court, so it’s good for a quick and compact meal. It can be a bit noisy, though.

Google
Located inside a food court HMART, it is decent. I got the spicy pork soup and for the cost, it is hearty and delicious. Alongside the small selection of banchan which only consists of two types of kimchi and rice, the meal filled me up. However, it does leave me wanting something else afterwards. The taste may be great and all, but I feel like the dish is lacking in something that I cannot quite put my finger on.

Beware! Check your food before eating. You may be eating mold with your dish! A long time fan of the franchise. I have been to multiple locations from LA to San Jose. I have been waiting for Moobongri to open in San Diego. When I opened the spice paste, I found a big colony of mold. The branch is only a few weeks old and this is just spices, so this paste must have been sitting there since day 1. By this point, I already ate 2/3 of the dish. So who knows? Other side dishes may have mold too that I didn’t notice. I took the container to the cashier, but all I got was how dry the shop is. “Sorry” wasn’t said once. Unsanitary food is a health hazard. I will not risk mine and my loved ones health like this. I will go back to the tried and trusted LA branch.

The soups were the best part of the experience. It’s very similar in taste as what I’ve had in Korea. Lovely spicy Pork backbone soup and rib soup.

Yelp
Another new Korean food experience for me. I ordered the Soondae Gukbap. Order comes with kkakdugi or radish kimchi, baechu-kimchi or napa cabbage kimchi, rice, gochujang, & salt & pepper. First time eating korean blood sausage as well as the gukbap. Both tasted great. The soup also has some chopped up pork intestines, liver & heart in there. You order from the counter, they'll give you a beeper and pick it up from the counter once ready. When you are done, you return your entire tray back to their counter. This is a very casual, somewhat fastfood vibe place since it is set up as a food hall type area inside H Mart.

Yelp
The soondae gookbap here is not bad. I don't know where else I would get this in sd. moobongri

Yelp
Food: I always get the spicy soondae soup. The original soup and this spicy one always taste really good. However I do feel that since they opened, the portion of meat inside the soup has reduced. Also, more chapsal soondae than tojong soondae since opening. I enjoy the tojong soondae more because there is more flavor into it. I wish they gave more meat inside the soup. Service: it's inside a food court so don't expect service. They just give you the ringing bell and you pick up once it's ready. Ambiance: H mart is always busy. A lot of people in the weekends.

Yelp
I love the soups here! I've tried the spicy pork, beef stew, and today I had the spicy beef blood soup. It had cubes of beef blood cakes and thinly sliced brisket (I think). The broth is always perfectly piping hot, savory, and flavorful. Each soup comes with three sides, like kimchi, daikon kimchi, and rice. Whenever I'm feeling under the weather or craving soup (which is basically every day), I come here. And the best part? I get to grocery shop after! By the way, this spot is inside the H Mart food court.

Yelp
For food court food, this place is pretty solid! They offer lots of different traditional Korean soups like seollongtang and kalbitang. I do wish they gave more meat for the prices they're charging, but otherwise a good place to grab dinner after grocery shopping in HMart!

Yelp
Please refer to my last review for my review on their amazing spicy soondae soup. Today I was just craving the soondae so I got the soondae platter. I thought the portion was pretty small for the price, but I did a little more research and found that it's on par with the going price for good quality soondae these days, maybe a bit on the high side. I found it to be really tasty. Regardless I was satisfied with my meal and paired it with the tteokbokki sauce from Jaws Express next door. Also really happy to report that their seollongtang is really good too! Good portion size and they accommodated my request for extra kimchi! I ate it all and cleaned off every last drop of the soup.

Yelp
Moobongri is a Korean chain with a presence in seven states. They have debuted at one of the vendor stalls at the H Mart food court in Kearny Mesa. The menu was less extensive than what was offered at the larger locations around the country. Hot soup bowls were the featured category with over a dozen available varieties. Three BBQ dishes and six A La Carte choices made up the rest of the selections. Intestines and blood sausage were a part of several dishes so it helps to have an adventurous palate. I wasn't in the mood for soup, therefore I asked the cashier about the Soondae Plates. He described the Meat & Veggies version as sausage stuffed with rice and pork blood so I took a risk and ordered it. For the $18 price, I expected rice and/or side dishes (banchan) to be included. Unfortunately, what I received in a takeout container was simply three sausage links cut into pieces. I'm not sure why it was that expensive for sausage only and how that was considered a "plate." The texture of the sausage was fine, but the taste was one you need to be familiar with to enjoy the product. It was difficult for me to consume as I could only finish a few pieces before discarding the rest. If I knew the contents of a plate were simply a variation of blood sausage, then I would have passed and ordered a soup instead.

Yelp
Their seolleontang comes with daikon and napa kimchee is large enough to share and incredibly authentic.

Yelp
Saw this one inside the H-MART market while my wife was buying her Lobsters. They just opened on Feb . 17, 4 days ago so the only available so far for their Menu is the Soups area. So we just had the Beef back Rib Soup to try. The meats are delicious and the broth are very tasty. Meats are very tender . The Beef back rib soup came with 2 sides and white rice . It is a great Korean food addition to the H-MART food hall. The lady who took our order was very nice. Plenty of Parking spaces around.

Yelp
K ALHI tang beef soup was delicious. The staff is super polite. Ban Chan Kim hi is fresh and very tasty

Yelp
This place is inside the HMart food court. We ordered the beef rib soup and the spicy beef soup. The beef rib was a little salty. But with rice, it's not too bad. The beef wasnt tender either. But it was pretty tasty: the spicy beef soup my mom loved.

Yelp
Fantastic value for what you get! If you're looking for something quick and easy then this is the spot! Located in the H Mart food court section! Definitely worth a try.

Yelp
Got the glass noodle soondae. Came out to around $18-20. It's freshly made and hot. Packaged well for to go. The casing was a little undercooked but it was overall tasty. It's located in the busy foodcourt in HMart

Yelp
Found a bug inside kimchi in my togo order.... grossed out. It seems like not the first time this place got a bad review for being unsanitary according to google reviews. I hope you guys get it together and keep it clean.

Yelp
I usually get their beef rib soup or sliced beef soup and its soo good. Its comforting, filling, and refreshing all at the same time. It comes with the side of rice, kimchi, and radish kimchi which are perfect sides to compliment the soup. I definitely recommend. The service is always nice and fast. It's inside HMart so the food area is lively. The wait isnt long and its made fresh.

Yelp
I've been to Moobongri many times in K-town and OC so I got excited to see it opened up in San Diego where it lacks a legit Soondae Guk (Korean Blood Sausage Soup) place. I have ordered a Spicy Soondae Guk. I think the broth is little weaker and had little less Tojong soondae in it compared to K-town location. Overall, it was good and the kimchi and the radiah kimchi that came as a side dish were good too. It is located inside H-Mart Balboa food court. They offer other soups and different Soondae plates. Soondae Guk is loved by Koreans so try this place if you are craving for Soondae or Soondae Guk.

Yelp
Heck yes. I was so happy that this restaurant has made its way to SD. Having tried the locations in Oakland and LA, I was excited to see they opened it in the Hmart I frequent. It's unfortunate that it's in the food court area because seating is sparse but I'm just happy it's convenient for me!

Yelp
We ordered spicy beef brisket soup and spicy beef soup on Nov 10. Both dishes are excellent. The spicy beef soup has glass noodle, shredded beef and bracken served in a big metal bowl, while the spicy beef brisket soup has chinese cabbage and good portion of brisket in a clay pot. Personally I prefer the Spicy beef soup better even the latter is great as well. Both korean comfort food arare wonderful for the fall. The accompany radish cubes and kimchi are fresh and well made too. Will come back for sure

Yelp
Whatever my friends ordered, I ate it without thinking. Everything was delicious. I think it was all Korean street food.

Yelp
We ordered two kalbitang (kalbi stews) and we got two large beef bones and a couple additional pieces of side rib meat that had a lot meat and with hardly any fat. The broth was well seasoned and came with sliced egg and glass noodles. We also received a healthy portion of kimchee and kaktoogi kimchee which were also authentic and was a great compliment to the stew. The dish also comes with a small bowl of white rice which my nephew loved to stir in his stew but I am trying to maintain a low carb diet. I highly recommend this restaurant. P.s the dipping sauce for the meat was a nice touch.

Yelp
Y'ALL HAVE TO COME HERE FOR DELICIOUS & AUTHENTIC KOREAN FOOD. I tried the yukgaejang (spicy beef soup w/ beef flank meat & veggies) here for the first time recently and I swear, this was hands down the BEST yukgaejang I've ever had. And I've had many many yukgaejangs before. I also had the spicy pork soup and spicy pork neck bone soup, all of which were fantastic as well. Even the banchan (raddish kimchi & cabbage kimchi) were sooo yummy. I seriously cannot recommend this restaurant enough!!!

Yelp
Just ordered the beef brisket soup to go, and it was so delicious!!! Both types of kimchi they had were very flavorful, the cabbage one is prob my favorite though. It seems pricey, but when you compare it to woomiok, it's priced lower and the portions are huge. I love their to go containers! Don't have to worry about any spillage and it was piping hot. When I order from woomiok to go, I always get it luke warm and have to microwave to enjoy

Yelp
Try the spicy soon dae soup here very good. Tastes like the korea town location in los angeles.
