Holiday Food and Drink Crawl in Boston’s Back Bay | Eater Boston

"A cured-and-smoked-meat lover’s paradise where the corned beef sandwich—served with Swiss, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island on rye—is a standout; the pastrami competes with the best in New York City and the bologna is surprisingly excellent, making the sandwich menu broadly worth exploring." - Terrence Doyle

Google
This tiny shop has a magical secret: their porchetta. Having a bad day? Want a special treat? Let this craftsman sandwich flip your world view. You can always boost the mood enhancing effects with one of their Italian beers. The people were also nice and seem to really care about what they do.

Google
I work at a flower shop nearby and decided to pop in for lunch one day- got the porchetta sandwich based off another review- it was even better than I imagined 😍 sooo flavorful, reasonable price, messy though so grab napkins if you’re eating in your car… I will be back!! Need to try the whole menu!!! And now I want to try the Moody Rooster restaurant too!!

Google
Moody Market & Provisions is hands down the very best gourmet sandwhich shop in town! It's not the cheapest, however, if you compare cost versus the quality of ingredients and craft of the sandwhich it's well worth it! I have not tried any of their packaged fare, however, over the past 10 months or so I have tried most of their sandwhiches and they are just flavorbombs! The stand outs are the "Lazio", "Chicken Shawarma", "Moody Godmother" & "BBQ Maitake" sandos! Easy online ordering, though I think it's turned off an hour before their closing time so just call the order in. Try their brownies too...decadent, gooey & delicious! Their bowls are also very good if you want the flavors minus the carbs :) The place is pretty small and there is some bar stool seating inside which overlooks the kitchen, however, there is also outdoor seating as well.

Google
I just enjoyed legitimately one of the best lunches of my life at moody market & provisions. I arrived immediately upon their opening and ordered the leg of lamb sandwich on a baguette with an iced tea. The sandwich was ready within 5 minutes and when I say that was the best lamb I've ever had there is no hyperbole. I'm going to have to force myself NOT to eat here every day. Collin and his crew knock it out of the park yet again!

Google
This is far and away the best sandwich in westlake but maybe the best sandwich in Los Angeles. The NY Italian is incredible, and the rice bowls are great as well. Wow

Google
We ate Moody Rooster few weeks ago. I almost fell outta my chair I was so impressed. I had to try the market. I got the shawarma bowl. Haha, it wasn't shawarma ,but it was a tribute. I didn't see the big rotisserie but ordered anyway. It had similar seasoning but you really can't recreate the dripping fat flavor that goes on there.

Google
I had the tuna (sashimi) bowl, it is hands down the best I’ve ever had. Just amazing. 100a% recommend!!!

Yelp
Love the bowls and sandwiches from here! I thought it was mostly a deli or market from the outside but walked in one day and realized there were food options! Each of the bowls have such a great mix of ingredients that go so well together and the sauces tie everything together- making each bite amazing -all bowl lovers have to try! What I love is also the freshness and quality of the ingredients. Sandwiches are amazing too, the ciabatta bread is savory and fresh - and not tough ! Which make it all the easier and tastier to bite into. Also don't forget to try the desserts, the butterscotch cookie was delicious - perfect salty and sweet combo!

Yelp
I don't explore Westlake Village too often but am happy to have found out about this gem! Our group of 11 stopped by for lunch on a weekend. Parking was fairly easy to find (outdoor plaza), and there was just enough seating outside for all of us. When you walk in, you can tell that this place takes pride in their fresh, high-quality ingredients. There is a lovely selection of salads, sides, and dips that look like they are made in-house. Aside from ordering a sandwich or bowl, you can also purchase a variety of butcher-cut meats (pay per oz) as well as bread and frozen pasta and bone broth. Since this is a grab-and-go place, there aren't any fountain drinks available, so be prepared to spend an extra $5 on a beverage. My husband ordered the New York Italian sandwich, and I got the Big Beef bowl as well as a lemon cookie. The ciabatta sandwich bread had a great texture; it was soft enough to bite in but firm enough to not get soggy. The bread-to-filling ratio was perfect and all the flavors meshed really well. I liked my bowl too; the beef was really good quality (not gamey at all) and I liked the choice of adding sweet potato and giardiniera (pickled vegetables). The salsa verde almost reminded me of a chimichurri and had great flavor. The horseradish crema was good too but it was way too much for me! My husband paired it with his sandwich for a tasty combo :) The lemon crinkle cookie was baked perfectly -- such a soft and slightly chewy texture, just the way I like it. The only downside was that it was lacking the tartness that I normally enjoy in a lemon dessert. One more thing to note: the servers forgot to deliver some of our group's sandwiches. I understand that we were a large group and that they were most likely busy with other customers, but one of us had to remind them to bring the rest of our orders out. Overall I would still recommend this place if you're in the area and are craving a delicious sandwich!

Yelp
I discovered this place today when I was in Westlake Village and it is owned by Moody rooster which used to be in this space. Their food is super healthy and delicious, I really like the Thai soup with coconut broth. Their salads are delicious and they have take and bake items if you don't feel like cooking. It's a great concept and I love the location and it's not terribly expensive. The girl who was working here today on October 26, 2025 is super sweet!

Yelp
Impressed. Ordered the New York Italian sandwich and an Enegren Beer for lunch and sat outside. The quality of the sandwich ingredients along with the bread was delicious. Suggest you order ahead. Pricey yes, but usually you get what you pay for. Will be back.

Yelp
Moody Market and Provisions is what Mendocino Farms wishes it could be! I had the lamb sandwich, and it was nothing short of incredible. Served on their housemade ciabatta, which was perfectly grilled, the harissa gave the lamb a nice punch of spice (but not too much) that was beautifully balanced with the freshness of the mint aioli and oven-dried tomatoes. Every bite was packed with flavor! I also tried the brisket - so smoky and tender, it practically melts in your mouth. The New York strip loin was another winner - cooked to perfection, wall-to-wall pink, juicy, and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend both if you're a meat lover! For a side, I had the smoked eggplant dip - slightly sweet, creamy, with a hint of citrus. It had great texture (not overly blended), which I loved. It's the perfect side, but I could easily see it making a fantastic addition to a sandwich too. I love supporting local businesses, and Moody Market makes it so easy with their outstanding food and service. I ordered ahead, and the service was prompt and friendly. While there's no seating inside, they do have three outdoor tables where you can devour your food like I did! I cannot recommend this place enough! I'm looking forward to coming back!!

Yelp
The Thai Albacore bowl is insanely good, so many diverse flavors and perfectly cooked meat.

Yelp
Unbelievable, great sandwiches and food overall prepared with a lot of imagination. Will definitely go back.

Yelp
I love the restaurant on the Moon rooster when I hear that there was a related sandwich shop. I was really excited to try it out and I've already heard reviews from some of my friends. I really loved my bone sandwich. It was so delicious. The meat was very high-quality and the bread was great and it's kind of nice that there are options that are maybe not 100% authentic, but still delicious in the area. The rest the menu looks amazing and I have to say my mouth was watering for the lemon cookies but I didn't get it today. I didn't notice. I said they had bone broth and other really healthy options so I will 100% be going back and I can't wait. The staff and say were nice. The sandwich took maybe 10 minutes to make so it wasn't the fastest but I feel like that was because of the quality and the inside was a really small market. I don't even think there were tables but it's definitely to go food.

Michelle E.

Yelp
Finally got to try this place over the weekend! The food was really, really good. I'm not sure what type of cuisine it's going for (I've never had chicken shawarma on sourdough) but the menu has a lot of options! Definitely going to try a bowl next time. This place is a must-try but prepare to spend a lot. We spent $140 on 4 sandwiches and 2 small sides.

Yelp
Moody Market & Provisions is a spectacular complement to the flagship restaurant, Moody Rooster. The chef's knowledge of food science, paired with the convenience of a grab-and-go store, makes figuring out where to get lunch or dinner a no-brainer. The food selection is seasonal, fresh, and unbelievably delicious! You can tell the people working there truly care about the food they're making. The next time you're unsure where to eat, head over to Moody Market. You won't be disappointed. P.S. The Pork Banh Mi is a spiritual experience, IMO!

Yelp
I confess I've never dined in a chef Collin Crannell restaurant before but that of course will change now . Today I was walking the dog in the westlake village commons and happened to notice a new cafe / deli/ market just opened close to my fav coffee place JOI. The place has an interesting variety of local artisan cheeses, deli meats , vegetable salads and many other things I missed being in a bit of a hurry .Apparently it opened less than two weeks ago and isn't not a large place so there's limited dining inside and outside . With that said it's a perfect takeout place for an office lunch or dinner . I ended ordering chicken shawarma platter for 17$ which I thought was a tad pricey for a quick bite. The surprise did come in the food itself. The deliciously cooked to perfect chicken was coated in sesame and Zaatar over a bed of quinoa. As sides it came with marinated beet salad, sliced cucumbers , tomato lettuce and a dressing of lemony tahini. Sadly ,I had to forgo the bread but it was still totally healthy and delightful for me as a gluten and lactose free customer . They carry several sodas, healthy drinks and even bottled cold brew but haven't decided whether they should get a full espresso machine. I hope they do - since I'm sure to be back there very soon .

Yelp
What a hidden gem this place is. It's owned by the restaurant Moody Rooster which is also amazing. I stumbled upon Moody Market while at the Westlake farmers market. It's a small little market but has GREAT goodies. Salads, sandwiches, meats, sides, treats, and dips! I got the onion dip and it's so delicious. I also got a brownie and oh my, the chocolate gooeyness was so good. It's a must try for a casual lunch solo or with a friend.

Yelp
We went to dinner at Moody Rooster and stopped by Moody Market and Provisions with hopes to grab some dessert. This was our first time into the market and it has a lot to offer! They offer fresh meat to take and cook yourself, premade items to take, assorted take and bake items, a handful of baked goods, and you can order items like sandwiches. We decided to grab one of each dessert. We bought the chocolate chip cookie, strawberry cookie, lemon cookie, chocolate brownie, and blonde brownie. The dessert items were reasonably priced at around $3 each. Our favorite dessert items were the chocolate chip cookie, the strawberry cookie, and the brownie. The chocolate chip cookie was rich, soft, and absolutely delicious. The strawberry cookie was also soft, gooey, and had a refreshing strawberry fruity flavor. The brownie had a decadent, rich chocolate flavor and was the perfect amount of gooey texture. One of my favorite brownies I've had! The owner, Vicky, was so friendly and welcoming. We had a great first visit to Moody Market and Provisions and will definitely be back to try some of their food and get our favorite dessert items again!

Yelp
Great sandwiches and dips. The bread is super fresh. Will definitely order from Moody Market again!

Yelp
Very tasty indeed. Would eat here every day if I had endless resources! Very worth stopping by for a sandwich or salad. The cookies were good... perhaps not great ... with the exception of the blondie which was incredible.

Yelp
Wow. Great veggie lasagna with broccolini. Fresh made pasta, broccolini arugula, shallots maybe? 25 minutes at 350 and 3-5 broil. Easy and super delicious. Not exactly your "take on a budget" but delicious! Definitely surprising how good it turned out. Well given how good Moody Rooster is, maybe not surprising at all.

Sarah R.

Yelp
I was excited to try the market because I absolutely love the restaurant. We got a bunch of different options to try. The chicken shawarma was good in flavor, but it lacked enough chicken in the bowl for the price. On top of that, my cousins bowl had three mainly fat pieces that she couldn't chew. Overall, the flavors of the food were great, but we were incredibly disappointed with our bowls. The other thing to note is that the service lacked energy, the staff were a little bit rude. I think concept and flavors are great, but the price point is a little much for what you get and the service was a bit low. I think I'd go to the restaurant over the market.

Julie T.

Yelp
Wow. This place is amazing. I had a last minute dinner party and decided to come here for the catering, and they did not disappoint. They were kind, knowledgeable and helped to make recommendations for portion sizes. The food was a hit-so fresh and tasty. We had everything from the tomato soup to the brisket and roasted chicken along with a variety of salads and sides. I can honestly say there was not one thing that wasn't 5 stars. Shout out to Robin and the entire staff for superior service! Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Kristin A.

Yelp
Local, bougie but welcoming, with a counter full of fab, fresh sides and meats to boot! And they got SARDINES in their cold case. I hadn't known the Moody Rooster restaurant converted to this provisions gem, but I am GLAD it did. The sandwiches are hearty as they are generous with the meat portion. I enjoyed their take in accoutrements for the sandwiches (my hubby thought a little too much). The service was EXCELLENT. My New Year's resolution is to become a weekly customer (or at least every other week?)!

Joan S.

Yelp
Good service, okay menu and will adjust to order, way overpriced. Food ok. Nothing to write home about but large sandwiches. Will not return due to price
google avatar

Yelp
The food here is exquisite. Beyond anything one should expect from a small outpost like this. The chef selects high quality vendors for every item in the store. Staff is helpful and friendly. You can't go wrong here.

Marie V.

Yelp
The moody market was indeed moody. I went last tuesday morning to grab a salad to fulfill my inkling for something green. A nice worker man helped my find a yummy one; however, he was indeed quite moody. Very yummy salad buy very moody worker boy. He was about 5'10 named ... I forgot I guess. He had brown curly hair though. Will be going back soon to find a new salad flavor, but with hopes for a slightly less moody worker ma

Sean D.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches, well worth the price. I've tried nearly every sandwich on the current menu. Top three in no particular order: lamb kofta, chicken shawarma, and pork bhan mi. They stand out because all have a combination of different bold flavors that work together in perfect harmony. If you are looking for something simpler, the Prosciutto Di Parma is about as simple as it gets, but don't let that dissuade you, it too is delicous
google avatar

C S.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious food...a little pricey but totally worth it. They have a fabulous lasagna and their roasted chicken is out of this world. Great sandwiches too. Staff here are friendly and courteous.
google avatar

Cyrus M.

Yelp
Farm to table, gourmet yet casual and delicious. Moody Rooster and its little deli market Moody Market are easily the best restaurants in the area. That attention to developing flavor in every ingredient, whether it be a protein or a vegetable, is unparalleled...and it's responsibly farmed/raised with no shortcuts. I don't eat out as often, I try to eat out better and this is how it's done.
google avatar

Carl J.

Yelp
What a gem....!!!! Delicious and tasty sandwiches, courtesy of the Moody Rooster Restaurant group. I had the Sardinia Dream lamb sandwich. Was really superb. Decent prices, high quality food and excellent service. Will be my go-to deli! Highly recommended!
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Great food, outstanding service. looking forward to going back again. Highly recommend this place.

Jeannie Z.

Yelp
While I like a lot of the food we've had here, we've had issues with almost every pick up order we've placed. We either get home to find out things are missing from the order or we find out upon pick up that the items are now out of stock even though we paid for them already. We chalked it up to being new in the beginning, but now they've been open a while and it's still happening. Bummer because WLV needs an easy good pick up spot!

Laurie G.

Yelp
Came upon this little place on my way to Subway. This was definitely a better option! Very interesting menu, fresh and varied. A little pricey, but so is everything. Might as well eat delectable things! I had the Thai Tuna Cibatta. Fabulous!
google avatar

Tony F.

Yelp
I got the lazio porchetta sandwich and German potato salad talk about next level food definitely going back

M K.

Yelp
I dont get all the positive reviews! I ordered the pork sandwich and the meat was all fat. Another time i ordered the reuben and the meat was super fatty. I wish they would use more lean meat and maybe i would go back.

Janine A.

Yelp
I have had the Porchetta on it own in the past. Today o tried the Pork Bahn Mi. It was the best Bahn Mi sandwich I have ever dad. The garlicky porchetta was on a toasted Ciabatta roll with pate, pickled vegetables, cucumber, cilantro.mint and Thai chili aoli. It was the perfect amount of spice. The portion is generous. I did not get a side today but if you go to the Moody Market I definitely recommend trying some. The cookies are also amazing! The staff is excellent and the food is consistently great!

Miss Messy D.

Yelp
This is such a great little place to grab something quick-ish and/or sit down and eat outside. Same high quality as the Flagship Moody, and unfortunately just as expensive. They have delicious salads and carved meats for sandwiches. I will go again, but get ready to spend a little more money...two people, 1 drink, 1 quinoa bowl, 1tri tip sandwich and a side salad, over $70. So if you're on a budget, it might not be the deli for you. LOVE the food!! Everything is 5 star!

Joe M.

Yelp
Best Sandwiches!!! We got the Steak, New York Italian and Caprese. All amazing, fresh, and little on the messy side but in a good way(with oil and balsamic). Next time I'll try the sides.

Jon C.

Yelp
Literally best sandwich I've ever had. Fresh ingredients, slow cooked meats, made with love. Thank you!
google avatar

Rand V.

Yelp
By far the best sandwiches this side of Bay Cities. So far I've had the brisket and the NY Strip sandwiches and they've been great. I'm excited to work my way through their whole menu.

Richard J.

Yelp
Great food, great service, great place to hang out! Definitely worth checking out, then going back for seconds.

Alexis H.

Yelp
This is exactly the type of "deli" that we need in Westlake- fresh, healthy and delicious.

Tiana D.

Yelp
Just like their restaurant moody market has amazing food! The shawarma sandwich is a favorite! Also the cookies are delicious as well. Great for take out or a fast lunch!

Derek K.

Yelp
Incredible sandwiches, salads, sides etc to eat there or take away. Top tier restaurant quality food, perfect for lunch, and they also have a variety of easy to "cook" (more like heat and serve) dishes that make dinners large or small super easy! Great selection of select wines as well, they were a huge hit at the holidays. If you love moody rooster, check out the market!!

Yvette L.

Yelp
I love Moody Rooster so was excited to try this. It's very expensive for grab and go and they didn't even fulfill my whole order. Since I got it to go I didn't realize until I opened the bag when I got home. Don't think it's worth it I'd rather go to the restaurant.
