"Collin Crannell worked at various fine dining restaurants in the LA area from Patina to Water Grill before opening his own neighborhood restaurant in the middle of a shopping center in Westlake Village. One of the earlier proponents of farm-to-table cooking in Conejo Valley, Moody Rooster offers a small, seasonal menu using sustainable ingredients. The menu is ever-changing, but some favorite mainstays include the saganaki, salads, and harissa carrots." - Fiona Chandra, Virali_Dave

Moody Rooster has been on my radar for a while and I took advantage of no traffic on Memorial Day weekend to venture out for lunch. After my visit I’m wishing I was a local! What a gem! I ordered the mushroom salad, albacore salad, octopus and the crispy gnocchi. Highly recommend a visit and can’t wait to return for more and dessert. Patio seating was perfect for a warm, sunny day. Carrie was phenomenal and the service is top notch.

That’s the kind of place I love. The food is rich, well-prepared, perfectly portioned, and has just the right touch of creativity and personality. Prices are reasonable, and the service was excellent. We had the crispy gnocchi — absolutely delicious — and the veal sweetbreads, which are rare to find (very : crispy on the outside and tender inside) The ambiance was warm and lively — maybe a bit noisy, but in a way that makes you feel relaxed A great spot for a casual dinner with friends or family. Highly recommended!

My friend and I were coming back from a golf mixer, and we were fortunate to get seated by the kind hostess after neve having the opportunity to experience this long awaited bookmark. Our waitress was also very kind and guided us to the best selections and we left very happy. The chicken was crispy and succulent and the lamb came right off the bone fresh and tasty. Can't wait to return!

My first time coming to this place. I really liked the ambiance. The food was really good. We ordered the half chicken and the boar tagliatelle pasta and they were both delicious. The bread pudding was also very good. My favorite was the homemade cherry cola. It was delicious. Service was great. Friendly staff. I hope to return soon.

The Gnocchi was delicious, but the portion was small. The fennel sausage was delicious and more hearty than some other dishes. The drink selection is terrific, the atmosphere was delightful, and our server Blanca was smart, professional and personable.

There aren’t that many restaurants trying to be like the Moody rooster in Thousand Oaks, but I also think that’s what makes it successful- not much competition. It’s all style, no substance. Sure, the food is picture-worthy, and the atmosphere fits the mold, but the execution is a miss. t’s a wannabe at best. This visit, we ordered the Orange Cara Cara, only to send it back after finding a big black hair (or fiber) in it. It did look alright, it was just four thick orange slices with a ball shaved cheese and fennel on top. The grilled octopus very, dry, and completely unbalanced, burnt ends. Rice was dry salty, and grainy. The flat iron steak? Equally over-salted with seasoning that just didn’t work. They make their dishes so visually appealing that it’s easy to overlook the quality and taste of the meal itself. (Not to be confused with the quality of the ingredients, which is actually very good). If you want a spot for photos, yes- go for it. If you actually care about well-executed food, look elsewhere and just make the drive to Paso Robles, Santa Barbara, L.A. etc instead of dropping $200+ here.

What a gem! Besides being one of the best meals I've ever had (pork tomahawk) , I had fun sitting at the bar with the locals. I can't wait to go back!

I was so pleasantly surprised on how much I loved the food here. We ate family style so we could try everything and everything we ordered was sooo delicious. The crispy gnocchi was my favorite and it was so good that I forgot to take a photo!!! But definitely do not skip on it. The gnocchi was fluffy and crispy without being too dense. The flat bread had Calabrian chilis so just the right about of heat and plentiful with the seafood on top. The fennel sausage pasta was so tasty and the pasta cooked perfectly. Service was very attentive. We went on a Friday for lunch and it was busy so make a reservation.

Yelp
Wife and daughter treated me for early Father's day and Birthday with dinner on June 8th, 2024. Had eaten there many times in the past with larger family groups. Although, in the past the food has been of very good quality and tasty, the prices have increased while the portions have decreased, some significantly. Service was good, until I started asking about the size of the Burrata & Strawberry salad. There was barely enough Arugula to cover 1/2 of the Burrata ball, and it looked like one strawberry had been cut into four pieces. When I asked a server about getting additional Arugula so that the entire ball would sit on a bed of Arugula, I was told there would be an 'upcharge'. We declined. To say that there would be an upcharge for 25 cents of additional arugula is a bit ridiculous, IMHO. For an $18.00 salad, this, IMHO, is ridiculous. In addition, when mentioning this to the main server, was told " I am not management ". After explaining why, and that perhaps management should be informed, the level of service dropped and of course, it did not appear that management was informed, or if it was management didn't care. In addition and in the past, the Crispy Gnocchi pasta covered the entire plate and was under $20. But now, it is barely covers 1/3 of the plate and the price is $25.00. NOT Good Value for 3 person dinner almost $250.00 with tip tab. As well, the cocktails have increased, so I stuck with the Energren Valkyrie local brew. In summary, the value received has decreased significantly and it would appear asking for remediation of a dish leads to decreased service as well. In the future, when asked to select a dinner venue, and if it is my choice, I will tend to steer in the direction of other venues with better received value and as good or better menu selections.

Yelp
I have been interested in trying this restaurant for quite awhile! Its has been on my list of list to experience! And what peaked my interest was the rave reviews and the farm to table concept. I always appreciate restaurants that focus on local ingredients and adapt their menus to what's fresh! And at last, I had the perfect opportunity to experience this restaurant with some dear friends! Best to go people who like to share as the menu has quite a number of items to explore! We started with vegetables: where we opted for a cauliflower dish: normally this would be an item to skip, but at this restaurant I highly recommend this dish. The cauliflower was accompanied by a great sauce that consisted of Greek yogurt, lemon, zatar and more. The flavors were off the chart. We also sampled a flatbread with squash flowers and burrata. The flatbread was good but not great. Not one flavor popped. I would skip this dish. Afterward we had gnocchi with a fondue sauce: this dish was very rich. The flavors of the sauce brought out the taste of the gnocchi . We really enjoyed this dish. After such delightful dishes, we sought a little sweetness, unfortunately nothing jumped off the page. Nether less our bellies were full with such great food and flavors. The freshness was evident. The restaurant also features a great drink menu. The restaurant has quite a list of wines and some specialty cocktails. The menu also has some interesting mock cocktails for non drinkers with fresh fruit juice. I opted for an apricot martini: the drink was perfect. Well balanced! Now I need to explore the rest of the cocktail menu! Throughout our meal we had great service! We appreciated the suggestions on menu choices. I also appreciate information on the dish ingredients. Lastly, it was nice that they sought feedback on why the desert menu did not peak our interest. If you are planning to dine at this restaurant: make reservations in advance. The restaurant is quite small with indoor and outdoor seating. You can make reservations on resy. If you don't see a reservation available, give the restaurant a call. The restaurant filled on a Thursday evening by 5:00pm. Lastly the restaurant is tucked in a strip mall. You will find this restaurant on the end. There is decent size parking lot within the strip mall but I imagine it may fill up with the nice boutique shops are open. Enjoy your meal!

Yelp
Five stars for excellent food and service! This place lives up to the hype so make sure you secure a reservation. I came in for girls night out and Jonathan provided amazing service. He helped make recommendations along the way and got our food to come out with excellent timing. For starters, we got the crispy gnocchi (delicious), yellowfin tuna tartare (beautiful presentation) and scampi flatbread (delicious) to share. Then, our entree selections we're roasted chicken and brazino to share along with spicy beans. To finish it off, we had olive oil cake and bread pudding (yum!). For drinks we had crystal ball and apricot cocktail. It was nice that they offered a delicious mocktail to sip on and toast with the group. This place is perfect for group settings to share a variety of dishes and eat beautiful, delicious food. I see why everyone comes here and they are turning tables every 2 hours. I'm glad I came and will be back!

Yelp
Normally I don't condone $20 for a sandwich (including tax) but in short this place does live up to quality over quantity. They make their own bread here and the meat is fresh. The sandwich was also decently filling. That too I was hangry before coming here on Sunday at noon

Yelp
A pretty solid restaurant for food and drinks in Westlake Village area. Removing one star because of my clothes always smells leaving this place due to this restaurant is not that big with an open kitchen concept.

Sasha A.

Yelp
Not sure what else to say other than WOW! All the food was delicious. We had a group of 6 and all of us loved what we ordered and couldn't stop talking about how awesome our dishes were and giving each other bites of our food. The menu changes frequently based on what's in season, and based on the amazing items we got (Roasted Cauliflower, Whipped Goat Cheese, Milo's Meatballs, Half Roasted Chicken, Lamb Gyro Pizza, Fennel Sausage Pasta) you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. You can taste the freshness and care those goes into every entree, truly. And on top of the yummy food and cool vibe in general, our servers were friendly and attentive.

Yelp
I've been that Moody Rooster is one of the better restaurants in WLV and it did not disappoint. I made a reservation for 3 via Resy on Friday early dinner. The restaurant filled up pretty quick and by 5:30ish it was packed. Service was good. The host was friendly. We had multiple people check in on us and making sure we had drinks/food. For food, we shared the carrots, prawns, steak, chanterelles mushroom pasta, and scampi pasta. I enjoyed everything. I felt the prawn was a little bit overcooked but the flavor was good. I also felt it was steep $38 for 4 prawns. The potatoes that came with the steak were super crispy. The chanterelles mushroom pasta had a lot of flavor. The scampi flatbread was our favorite, so much that we ordered it again. For dessert we shared the bread pudding. So delicious. I want more thinking about it.... Lot Parking in the front. They do have outdoor seating. Expect to spend about $75-$100 a person for food/drinks. Very good restaurant in WLV. I will be back.

Yelp
First time here we went for my birthday. The lentil soup, nectarine salad, and eggplant appetizer were to die for as well as the ginger lemonade. Emily was our server and she was kind, warm, friendly, and very helpful. She made our experience very special. Love the vegan options. Will definitely be making this a new favorite!!!

Yelp
This place is in such a pretty area and is cute and nice inside, has a full bar and the kitchen is visible and is small but also spacious, food was great, good quality, flavor, texture was on point, service was good, everyone was attentive and polite, It does get busy, we didn't think to make reservations and didn't have to wait about 11:39 am on a Friday but probably a good idea to make reservations the rush set in about noon and it filled up - inside and outside seating available

Sean W.

Yelp
I had heard so many good things about Moody Rooster that I was worried it could be overhyped. Nope. Not at all. Amazing would be an understatement describing my recent visit to Moody Rooster. The place was poppin and really good energy on a Saturday night. The service was impeccable, and our servers recommendations were on point. I was feeling special so I ordered the ribeye special. This was by far one of the best steaks I've had in a really long time. It was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was so tasty. The duck fat potatoes have me drooling just thinking about them. The caramel budino was the perfect dessert to top off a truly delicious and impressive meal. I can't wait to come back.

Chris A.

Yelp
In the past 2 months we dined here 3 times. Amazing food service and ambiance!! I love the octopus salad and the flank steak very unique the duck flat bread was amazing. The whipped yogurt Carmel is to die

Yelp
Took my son there for his 32'nd b-day His suggestion). Food was good - but took a long time to get it served. Not a fan of the local spirits. Waitress was a bit pretentious and didn't know the menu well. No amenities at the table - bread etc. Asked for salt and pepper and it never came. No substitutions - not even between sides from the same table??? And the kicker: they asked when we came in if we were celebrating anything and my son his b-day. At the end the waitress brought a dessert menu and asked what he wanted for his special day, They brought it out with a candle. AND, Charged me for the dessert - 13.00- almost felt like we were set-up. Did I just pay for a candle?!?! Not the price if we WANTED the dessert but not ethical. Won't go back again...either will he.so sad.

Yelp
Had dinner with a semi-large group and this restaurant was very accommodating! We ended up ordering about 9 dishes and shared it family, and that allowed us to enjoy a lil flavor from many dishes. The food itself was delicious, the carrot and halibut was tops for me and would definitely get those again. Loved the vibe and ambiance of this place and the plaza the restaurant is. The staff were very nice and genuine. They really made us feel welcomed and really elevated our experience. They are also a main reason why I'll be dining here again! The location is in a plaza and has a lot of parking, which is always a good thing.

Rikki R.

Yelp
This was the first time I've been here, and I LOVED it! The food was amazing & service was stellar. Brittney was so attentive (while she had a ton of tables other than us) & made us feel so welcomed. Definitely will be coming back

Simrat S.

Yelp
We were super excited to try this place given the reviews and how hard it is to get a reservation. I felt like we might have come here on an off night. Our server reminded me of Sadness from "Inside Out", she might have been having a bad day. The servers around us seemed very nice. At the end of our meal, we over heard her very rudely telling the elderly people next to us that they had exceeded their dining time, while I understand that they are a busy restaurant, they looked like they were going to leave in the next couple of minutes anyway and there should have been a level of tact when she asked them to leave. I mean, they had probably just spent hundreds of dollars at the restaurant. The food and drinks were just okay. I was not blown away. The carrots and hummus were probably the best part. Skip the gyro flatbread, it felt like they slapped together Trader Joe's ingredients and didn't even bother to cut up the dill. I have never seen so much dill in my life. I don't think we will be dining here again. Very disappointed.

Yelp
It has been a few years, so time to write an updated review. I have been a few times recently and food is still incredible! TIP: If you haven't been in a while - they moved! Strangely the old location does not have a sign telling you where the new location is, just says we're closed. Who'd guess you can get top rate food in a strip mall in Westlake?! Each bite is mouth watering delicious! Smoked Eggplant ($14) is fabulous! Enough for an entrée. It comes with slices of orange, pickled onions, pistachio brittle, tahini sauce, and micro greens. An unusual eggplant dish. Smoked Trout on Toast ($19) is incredible! Very rich, so definitely a share plate. 4 pieces serves 4 as an appetizer. Topped with blistered cherry tomatoes, candy beets, wild arugula, crème fraiche, and lemon. Roasted Half Chicken ($29) is very good. Large portion serves two. Cooked with roasted garlic and thyme. The accompanying BBQ spiced sweet potatoes are so good! The Crispy Gnocchi ($24) is still outstanding! Far superior to any gnocchi I've had. Topped with cherry tomatoes and basil, in a plate of parmesan fondue. I think the bread recipe is different than when they opened, not as good in my opinion. Ambiance and service are good.

Sally T.

Yelp
Moody Rooster is what changed my entire perspective about New American food (which I admittedly was not the biggest fan of before). After trying their rotating menu not once, but twice, I am now a believer. Their crispy gnocchi dish is to die for! It's a must-have for every visit. Their Spanish octopus dish is also a 10/10 banger, so I recommend that as well. For dessert, we got their warm chocolate chip cookie with malted milk. You're probably wondering why I would advocate for paying that much for cookies you can bake at home and you're probably right about that, but the real crowd pleaser here is the malted milk it comes with. Try it and you will become just as enlightened as I have. Reservations and outdoor dining are encouraged as well. Parking is a breeze. Staff are hilarious. This is my favorite restaurant in Malibu until someone takes me to the Nobu location out there, LMAO.

Yelp
For few years I listened my friends & clients talking about this restaurant! We live 5 min away and Finally today very dear Italian friend took me for lunch to Moody Rooster. I looooooved it and plan to take my Italian husband there to try all delicious, full of flavors, freshest food. I've met the owners and they were wonderful family. Bravissimi ! Wow!

Yelp
We were introduced to this amazing restaurant a year ago. Have come back twice (from NYC) to go. It's astonishing and delicious, offering an interesting menu with a range of delicious food, carefully selected and prepared. Last Friday night, we were savoring our dinner (pasta, fois gras, carrots, etc.) and I overheard another table ordering chicken pie! Hummmmm. That sounds tasty! The next day, we ordered one for take out to have the following week at home. We were called to say it had been prepared early so we raced over to pick it up. It was a huge pie and a perfect dinner for a foursome with a salad on the side. Both "in resturant" and "take out" are five stars +! We love the Moody Rooster. Can't wait to return to CA soon again. Wish there was one in NYC!

Yelp
This is so very frustrating: with the frequent menu changes due to local availability of items, every so often I find two amazing new entrees and I can't decide which to have. Like tonight. I was going to have the Pan Seared Baja Red Snapper. And then I saw the Spaghetti al Limone (with rock shrimp, no less). So what on Earth am I expected to do? Fortunately Moose checked for me and found that the Spaghetti will still be offered for dinner on Monday. This is a Saturday night. So that works for me. Snapper tonight it is! To start it's the Salmon Sashimi and the Cucumber Soup. I know - two appetizers. But the soup will simply fill in the cracks in my stomach... And how is the Sashimi better than at a sushi bar?? And the presentation is insane. None of this makes sense. I'm upset I won't have room for dessert, too. And did I mention how much I love coming here? Vicki and Annie greet me by name at the door. David is the drink meister behind the bar; Moose is the master of the grape vintages. (Is that a term? Does it make sense?) He's a Rockin' Sommelier. But even if this is your first time, you will absolutely be well taken care of. Tonight is Saturday. It's loud, but in the best way. Everyone is having an amazing time. As am I!

Niki R.

Yelp
I want to love this place. It's got a great vibe and the cocktails and wine menu look fabulous. I went for a work lunch -- so no opportunity to try the cocktails. We ordered to eat family style-- Saganaki Flatbread- pan seared halloumi cheese, pine nuts, green onions, parsley, ouzo, burnt lemon - this was really odd, it came out on a tortilla with a chunk of halloumi in the middle -- not what I expected. I guess I expected it more to be flatbread pizza. The Brussels sprouts were perfectly seasoned, but slightly under cooked. They still had a raw edge and needed a little more love in the skillet. The burrata and tomato pappardelle was disappointingly bland. The pasta was a bit underdone- wasn't quite at al dente yet.

Karla G.

Yelp
The food and location are great. Our server was very nice as well. The food was sloooowwwww to arrive, however. They get busy, so plan accordingly. :)

Yelp
Delicious food, good service and great ambience. We come all the way from the Hollywood Hills just to dine here.

Silvia O.

Yelp
10/10. Plates left clean. So good. Everything on the menu is perfect. My family of 4 each had a different plate and all had nothing to take home

Kim W.

Yelp
A simply stunning meal. They had a 24 ounce bone in ribeye special that was the best steak my stepsons ever had. My hubby had the bone in pork chop, which was absolutely phenomenal. I personally got the gnocchi which was a little too rich and too sweet for me, but I would absolutely go back in New York minute. It was a fantastic experience.

George S.

Yelp
Great little spot in Westlake Village. We came here for dinner with some friends and always like to try something new. We started with their Burrata salad that had a very sweet and tangy balsamic vinegar dressing, so good! Next we had the Sauteed Spanish Octopus. It was cooked perfect with a nice char flavor to it. The yellow tomato sauce that it came with was a little bland for my taste, but it was still delicious. We especially enjoyed the Crispy Gnocchi with its Parmesan fondue and age balsamic sauce. This is a must have here. Our main course was the Pan Roasted Flat Iron steak with Black garlic aioli. Cooked perfect and paired with some duck fat potatoes, simply delicious. We ended with the Bread pudding. The bread was soft with crispy edges and topped with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce, can't go We made reservations because we heard it can get busy and there were a lot of people enjoying there food and drinks when we arrived. They have ample seating inside, a nice bar area, and a patio area as well. Service and staff were great! Come by and enjoy! Happy Nom Nom!

Yelp
I am a Moody Rooster newbie, 2 visits in...LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. FOOD: Fantastic: Octopus Brussle Sprouts, Goat Cheese & Meatballs. DRINKS: Again, on point. Bartender David and Bar Staff Moose, knocking it out of the park. ATMOSPHERE: Clean, Simple, Cheeery yet intimate where everybody knows your name. Even the restrooms are clean! THE STAFF: Super friendly, SMILING, and hustlers, ALL of them. This restaurant team is organized! The bottom line is that Moody Restaurant and Market (a separate storefront for pickup of their Farm To Table meats, etc. a must-visit-... a few storefronts down from the restaurant) is the LEADERSHIP. A high level of employee standards means everyone steps up to the level. The result is you've got a restaurant so good that there is a line out front before they open. I am a New Raving Fan (read the book) of Moody Rooster; thinking of getting a Season Pass. *wink. Collin & Vicky, job well done (no pun). Make a reservation.

Sheena M.

Yelp
I loved the food. The goat cheese toast, the crispy gnocchi, little gems salad, the chicken, and the drinks were all delicious. AND The budino was EPIC! A must try. The waitress was great and the restaurant was so cute. It is on the pricey, our bill for four adults was over $600. Which would have been fine if all four adults left happy. The only downfall was one of the members in our party struggled with the menu and did not get the same experience as I did. SOOOO If you have food allergies and appreciate being able to remove an ingredient or make any substitutions, this may not be your favorite place to dine as they respectfully make no alterations to the menu which we didn't know prior.

Neil S.

Yelp
Best restaurant in the area hands down! There I said it. Spectacular service and the staff make you feel like you're an old friend that's been going there for years. We didn't have a res so we just waited for bar seating. Their bar has only boutique brand liquor which is so great. Trust the bar tender to suggest something for you. Now comes the food. Don't eat for a couple days because you're going to want to have everything on the menu. Duck sausage pizza was light and simply delicious. Crispy gnocchi. Grilled shrimps were so flavourful you didn't need the sauce it comes with. Finished with bread pudding. Highly highly recommend

Libby R.

Yelp
Hands down the best restaurant in the valley. Farm to table at its finest. I've eaten here for years and they are only getting better as the years go on. Make a reservation!!!

Yelp
Wanted to try someplace new for us with outdoor tables. Our friends recommended Moody Rooster. Located in a smaller strip mall, it is easy to drive by. Tuesday night at 6 PM and the place was packed. We got the last 6 PM reservation for the patio (which they honored - NICE!!!) Our server, Jonathan, came by right away to tell us about the specials and make recommendations. Three of us decided to share 4 dishes. We started with the duck sausage flatbread ($19). WOW!!! That was good. Might be the best flatbread I have had. Then came the sautéed Spanish octopus ($23), half chicken ($29) and the special agnolotti ($26). The octopus comes with shishito peppers, yellow beans and yellow tomato sauce. A generous portion and very tasty. The chicken is a very shareable dish because it comes cut up (see the photo). It comes with BBQ spiced white sweet potato (also very tasty) and garlic confit. Excellent dish. But the agnolotti was the biggest hit of the night. A pasta dish with cone shaped pasta stuffed with butternut squash and topped with sprinkled pine nuts. FABULOUS!!! Service was excellent throughout.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Moody Rooster, and I must say, the experience was absolutely delightful. The meal was nothing short of amazing, leaving me thoroughly impressed. Despite living 40 minutes away, I am already planning my next visit because the food was simply delicious. Every dish we tried was a testament to the chef's skill and creativity. The flavors were bold and perfectly balanced, making each bite a culinary delight. The attention to detail and the quality of ingredients were evident in every aspect of the meal. The restaurant's ambiance was welcoming, and the staff was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience. It's not often that I find myself willing to drive a considerable distance for a restaurant, but The Moody Rooster has certainly earned a spot on my list of favorites. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone in search of an exceptional dining experience. Don't miss the opportunity to indulge in their culinary delights - you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
First time coming to the mood disturbance rooster, i seen it on Yelp and driving around but haven't had a chance to come in with their hours vs my schedule. Modern, cozy, farm house inside..i was surprised on the quality of the with very nice silverware, it struck my attention. Ordered the gem salad, was told that the dressing is made in house. Would order a glass of the dressing to drink. The vegetables were fresh. Ordered the duck sausage pizza, soft, airy, with slight crisp outer edge crust. The sausage, the sauce the yumminess! Would totally order this again. The menu changes depending on availability of produce items & creativity of the chef. There are some entrees that remain stable. Coffee sundae was also ordered, no photo taken, due to eating it quickly. Looked and tasted awesome. It's rich, so the size was perfect to share. Recommend to stir it all together The employees are very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable of their menu.

Yelp
I drove all the way from North Hollywood to try Moody Rooster... and I don't regret it! Wow, from the food to the service, everything was spot on. We made a reservation for a Friday night at 8:30pm but ended up calling and switching it to 8:45pm with no problem as our bowling was running a little longer than expected. I had actually never been to Westlake Village but Moody Rooster is in a super cute area. Its located right on the end of a strip mall with plenty of parking. The inside is small and inviting and there is also outdoor dining available on their wrap around patio. Because we were there with friends and there were so many things on the menu that we wanted to try, we ended up ordering a bunch of different plates to see which ones we liked the best. I can't skip the cocktails because they were also on point! Whoever was behind the bar that night knew how to make a darn good cocktail. I had a couple of the crystal ball cocktails (with vodka) and they were delicious. The rest of the table ordered different cocktails and some wine. As for the food, we started with the artisinal sourdough bread because, why not? Then we moved on to the yellowfin tuna, whipped goat cheese on toast, little gem caesar salad, red beats, scampi flat bread, Brussels sprouts and the crispy gnocci. We also ended the meal with the bread pudding, a lemon olive oil cake and a coffee sundae. And the star of the night was (drumroll please)... the crispy gnocci! I mean this is the stuff of my dreams! It was so incredibly delicious and had cherry tomatoes, basil, parmesean fondu and aged balsamic. With those bold flavors, this dish could have been a swing and a miss but it was a home run all the way! I must admit that I am not really a seafood eater so I can't speak for those dishes but everything else was incredible and my friends certainly liked the seafood dishes. The dishes were not only flavorful but the portions were generous and perfect for sharing. The entire vibe of the night felt very family like. I know this is a popular restaurant but everyone there felt like family. Our server was wonderful and by the end of the night everyone was wrapping up at the restaurant due to our later dinner reservation. As we were leaving, everyone left in the restaurant felt like part of the staff. They all turned to us to thank us for coming in and it was just a warm feeling that is hard to describe but so very appreciated. I left Moody Rooster thinking about who I can bring there next, and thats a great sign!

Yelp
Delicious food, Gnocchi was to die for and the New York Steak with the bone marrow butter was out of this world. 10/10 recomend

Yelp
If you're ever in the neighborhood of Westlake this is a must try! The food was amazing as the service. Everything has a local and in season touch. We had the Nectarine salad, followed with a duck sausage and apricot flat bread plus entrees, yes we are pigs hhahahahaha. Everything was amazing as was the service. We were in town for a function however, this will be one of our go to spots even though they are over 90 minutes away from home.

Yelp
To my fellow Foodies out there... Listen up and Listen Good! I know you have them. Heck, I even have them. (Cause I'm a foodie too). I am talking about those restaurants that are on our Bucket Lists. You know... That new spot on the blvd. that your best friend just won't stop talking about. Yes, we got it Josh, "They're Margaritas were Epic!" Or the one new hot ramen spot that keeps popping up on your IG or TikTok feed... (damn you social media and your influence on my life's choices) Either way... A Foodies Bucket List is the way to our hearts, that goes straight to our stomachs!! ------------------------------ But before I get in trouble for writing yet another review without giving my beautiful wife her due credit for finding this restaurant and for it being her choice that we came here in the first place... Here it goes: MY WIFE WANTED TO COME TO THE MOODY ROOSTER AND I HAD NO SAY IN THE MATTER... I.... Just gladly paid for it! ;) There you go hun, you the real MVP! Lol ------------------------------- Ok...Moody Rooster... Now that my feathers are all ruffled... What. In. Actual. Hell. Why did it take so long for us to try this hidden culinary gem?? Well, this past Monday...The wait was finally over! Date night with our friends was on and none of us at the table held back! Refills on our cocktails.. We got Appetizers... I had Soup... Perfectly prepared Mains... And drum roll please... 4 desserts baby!!! Every single dish that came from the kitchen was beautifully plated, elegantly executed, and tasted as if the Chef was trying to Beat Bobby Flay, become the next Master Chef and doing whatever it takes not get Chopped... Let's just say... The Moody Rooster's Chef beat Bobby's Ass, made Gordon Ramsey curse with happiness and Chopped his competition in half. The Burrata & Sun Dried Tomatoes: -To die for...luckily my wife's a nurse and brought me back after each bite I took. The White Sweet Potato Soup was FIRE!!! x3 -it was spice hot (had a kick, which I absolutely Loved) -it was temperature hot (hello... it's soup!) -it was Fire (So. Damn. Tasty.) The Sautéed Octopus was not something I would normally get, but I'm so glad I did. It had great texture and perfectly paired with my Chenin Blanc. Crispy Gnocchi: my wife's jam! -loved the Gnocchi itself, but thought the Parmesan fondue sauce was a touch sweet. (But it didn't stop me from polishing off her plate once my octopus was gone). Friends had the Pork Shoulder Ragu & Milo's Meatballs, both looked great! And last (only because we ordered it last) and certainly not least.... D-E-S-S-E-R-T 1) Coconut Tapioca (Sooooooo Gooooooood!) 2) Lemon Olive Oil Cake (Amazing!!!!!) 3) Cookies & Milk (Life Changing) 4) Coffee Sundae (how I want coffee going forward) Everything was on point and I can see why this place is the talk of the town. So whether it's on your foodie bucket list, your wife's foodie bucket list, or your best friend Josh's foodie bucket list... Just mark it off the list already and come check the Moody Rooster out already! I think you are gonna Love it.

Yelp
We came here after a hike during our stay in Malibu. We visited in May, when it tends to be cloudy by the beach, so this was a nice area to go for a bit of sunshine on a cloudy Malibu day. It's just far enough inland to get a break from the "May Gray" by the beach, and the outdoor seating was really nice. We ordered the whipped goat cheese toast and the crispy gnocchi to share for a light mid-day snack. Both were delicious. We loved the honey on the goat cheese toasts so much that we stopped by the bakery nearby to get some to take home with us. The gnocchi was also delicious and very unique, as they recommend you dip the gnocchi into the sauce as you go to maintain a bit of their crunch. We loved all the flavors and the fresh ingredients. Looks like their menu changes with the seasons. We love restaurants that do that! The service was great. Very friendly staff and timely service. The restaurant was really cute inside. It has a fancy vibe, but they didn't mind us being dressed down in our hiking clothes. We even found another little hike nearby with a lake reservoir view. The neighborhood in the surrounding area is really nice! Definitely check it out!

Yelp
This is my first time at this restaurant and I like the Moody Rooster. I hope to return. They seem to accent different spices. I had the Loco Moco, which looked small, but was filing. My wife had the Tomato Bisque with coconut milk, which she enjoyed. My M. R. Old Fashioned was unique in that it had tobacco bitters which added a distinct flavor. We ate inside which would be too loud for our tastes if the restaurant was full.

Yelp
They literally turned us away because no reservations available when 80% of the restaurant was empty. They just lost our business from here on out. Edit: since the owner decided to respond right away, here is an edit. We were 2 adults with 2 little babies who needed high chairs. It is good to know that the hostess was in fact the owner, because she lost our business from here on out. It wasn't just an employee hostess who needed to be better trained. The owner herself made the decision to turn us away. The restaurant was 20% full when we walked in. She never offered to allow us to wait for a table. She just said no reservations are available and turned us away. Her explanation that apparently the restaurant was going to be at full capacity within 20 minutes of our arrival on a Tuesday, appeared to be disingenuous. We go out often as a family and have never ever been turned away by a restaurant because we had no reservations. We have always at the very least been offered the chance to wait. Anyways, the owner apparently has all the time right now to respond to my yelp review right away while also seating all those reservations that are apparently walking in as we speak - what a multitasker!

Yelp
This was our first visit to the newer, larger location of this restaurant and we were big fans of the previous, smaller location. Lunch didn't disappoint. The female server was fabulous as was the wine expert behind the bar. It's also beautiful inside and we had a table for two. We ordered the eggplant dish, a baguette, and a burratta/arugula salad, along with our champagne. We will definitely go back. One con: the smoked eggplant dish is no longer on the menu. It was one of my all-time fave dishes. My daughter and SIL were here for dinner the following evening. They also ordered an eggplant dish but again missed the original smoked eggplant.

Yelp
A cozy and classy restaurant with shareable tapas dishes. Servers were friendly, and food was great. We sat at the outdoor tables. - Harissa carrots ($12). Roasted baby carrots that tasted curried more than anything. The carrots were sweet, savory, blistered, and delicious. I didn't care for the soft chickpeas, and the hummus was okay. - Crispy gnocchi ($24). The gnocchi were pan fried, but not cripsy. The insides were soft, but not exactly pillowy. While the pasta was a miss, the cherry tomatoes and fried basil were good. The parmesan cheese sauce was divine! I wanted to lick the plate clean. - Milo's meatballs ($22 - 3 pcs). Really good. The large beef and pork meatballs were tender and juicy with creamy burrata on top. I think an additional slice of bread would have been nice, since the meatballs were huge. - Smoked trout on toast ($19 - 3 pcs). Good, I liked the freshness from the cherry tomatoes, radish, and lemon. However, the fish was a touch salty for me. - Sticky toffee date cake. Possibly no longer available, but it was very sweet and moist, served a la mode. Yummy!

Yelp
Decent spot in Westlake. Celebrated my moms birthday here and the food was good. Nothing special, but the octopus was some of the best I've had. Proper texture, great flavor, good execution. Other dishes could use work but overall, a good dining experience.

Yelp
Lunch is serve until 5 and we arrived at About 4. They have mostly flatbreads and things on toast which I really don't like usually but we were a party of four and we loved everything! So fresh, original , and excellent quality and tasty too! What a hidden gem in Westlake village ! I wish we lived closer so we could visit all the time. Our good friends live here so when we visit them we can eat here. Best meatballs I ever had , by the way. One more picture didn't fit was the scampi flatbread which was all of our least favorite ,fyi.

Yelp
Okay, so wow! Heard amazing things.... Even from my 25 year old son, so let's go! Amazing atmosphere. A true gem. We were recommended to try the roasted chicken, it was outstanding. Before I forget let's hit the staff. Mila and Britany were fantastic, they worked together on multiple tables but one of them was always on us, in a good way. I had the drilled Octopus, it was outstanding. Bourbon glazed Brussel sprouts were fantastic. The bread pudding was also recommended and now we know why. The cocktails are not cheap but are on the spot! Do not miss this spot. Get here now!

Yelp
The ambiance was great. From the moment we were seated, Kris was attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. She took the time to answer all of our questions and offered great recommendations, ensuring that our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. Kris went above and beyond to accommodate our needs throughout the meal, and her professionalism did not go unnoticed. She is a true asset to your team, and I look forward to returning for another fantastic dining experience.
