The 24 Best Restaurants In Melbourne - Melbourne - The Infatuation

"Moon Mart started life as an online store selling kimchi made from the chef’s grandmother’s recipe. Today, it’s a joyful cafe with a cult following. Shelves hold condiments and preserves, and the inventive brunch menu takes cues from the convenience stores of Korea and Japan. Those who know this place know it for one of three dishes: the cheese, kimchi, and funky fermented honey jaffle (a type of toasted sandwich), the char sui bacon-and-egg roll, and a hash brown given the okonomiyaki treatment with Kewpie mayonnaise and bonito flakes. Whether you’re at a wooden table with mates, brunching solo at a street-facing bench, or gearing up to explore South Melbourne Market nearby, the light-flooded room guarantees a zen start to the day. The matcha is some of the best in town—get it layered with strawberry compote, or espresso for extra kick." - ellen fraser

Attention to detail type of establishment. Thoughtful use of ingredients and considered serving utensils. Get the Tonkatsu rice set and consume before 12:00 PM, go about your day from there. Elite spread of condiments with this dish, will be back to try the breakfast. Waltz 25 min walk up the road from southern cross station if you’re visiting Melbourne.

Asian inspired breakfast options is a comforting way to start the day. Little gourmet touches elevates the dishes. We had the tonkatsu rice set + hash brown, and kimchi jaffle. Both delicious with their own spins like the honey dipping sauce with the jaffle, and an apple chutney with the katsu which give extra dimensions in flavour. It was a rainy day with limited shelter whilst waiting outside. Luckily we got a spot soon enough inside. Service became more friendly with time. Yellow is a harmonising theme the brightens a cosy and simple interior.

Unique Japanese-inspired cafe. Tried the rye shokupan - one with curried egg and another with salmon - both unique, delicious, and highly recommended. Coffee was great and paired nicely with the food. The space is two stories and can get quite busy, so best to visit during off-peak hours. Overall, a standout spot with a distinct offering that’s well worth checking out.

I have wanted to visit Moon Mart for some time, and our experience was pleasant :) Staff were very friendly & helpful. The cafe is small and well catered for groups of 2-4 people inside. We had the Unagi + Pork Sando, Bulgogi Muffin + Okonomiyaki hash brown. Big flavours & generous portions. Interesting selection of iced + hot drinks + pantry items. The Passionfruit Cheong was very refreshing. We left very full & glad to have enjoyed a different style of brunch! We also appreciate that running a cafe with few staff can be tricky at times, and we were grateful for the kind service! Thank you.

Not sure why this place is not a 5/5 rating. Food is epic. Best strawberry matcha around made with homemade strawberry jam. May is an absolute delight and really enjoys and gets to know her clientele and has a great sense of humour. The rice sets are completely on point. I will be going here regularly. The tangerine donuts are so good. I loved everything about this cafe. High high high recommendation. Loved it

Cozy, cute, little cafe with extraordinary food and coffee. They successfully deliver Korean food into Australian table. With exceptional service and recommendation from May, i will definitely come back for more!

A cute little café I’ve been going to since they were in West Melbourne, and now they’ve moved to South Melbourne! 💛 The café stands out with its adorable yellow theme, so bright and colorful. The food is just as lovely. I tried the shokupan with dipping and it was amazing. I also had the Sandos and Tonkatsu and they were super yummy. Highly recommended! 💓

Food was just as good as I remembered from their original West Melbourne location, although the egg sando was a tad bland if we were to nitpick. However, the service felt rushed. We were there for less than 30 minutes before our dishes were cleared, the bill handed over, and we were asked to leave so they could have the table back - even though we only saw two people were waiting. Multiple signs asking customers to wait outside also made the place feel less welcoming. Sadly, while the food was decent, the service experience was disappointing and not what it used to be. Definitely not the calm experience we’re wanting on an early Saturday morning.
