Visited here on a relatively slow Thursday afternoon. They have 2 options for sando and we opted for their kaksu sando for $14.
As a lover of all things ton-Katsu, Katsu sando here was below subpar... I was impressed at first from the enormous size of the sando, but I was quickly turned off from the first bite. The Katsu had a nice crispy exterior, but the pork was tough and chewy as if it has been sitting in their freezer for weeks. The pork also had no flavor, and they barely put any ton-Katsu sauce in the sando which would have gave it some taste profile. The cabbage salad was ok, although lot of the pieces were bitter. However, the most disappointing thing was their shokupan (Japanese milk bread). Most Katsu sandos I've tried usually have their crust cut, but they don't (which is fine). However, their bread was stale and dry, which didn't complement the katsu at all.
Overall, I was mad at myself for picking this place. Yeah they might had an off day, but when you're at the grand central market that attracts many tourists, you should be on your A-game at all times since it will be a one-time experience for many people. Besides, the workers seemed annoyed that we were trying to order, maybe that's why this restaurant was dead when other places had lines forming constantly.
