Moon Rabbit - Review - Downtown LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"One of our favorite spots in GCM, Moon Rabbit is an all-around star. Inspired by boba shops in the San Gabriel Valley, Moon Rabbit specializes in teas and small snacks, like bánh mì filled with grilled pork and Japanese-style chicken katsu sandwiches. But the main event is their teas, which range from bright-orange Thai teas to jasmine greens and boba-filled rose blacks. With plenty of non-dairy options, they’re like Naomi Osaka on a good day - a wide range of talents, few weaknesses, and a fierce but cute aesthetic that just won’t quit." - Kat Hong

I usually get Thai green at other places and they are good but this one was better!! I got exactly what I wanted with low sweetness that's actually low sweetness the others were still sweet. I like how I wanted less ice and I forgot to ask but I still got less ice that was a plus!

Google
I was lucky enough to be one of the first customers to try their new rice bowls and boy was I in for a surprise. I had the thai grilled pork rice bowl which looked alright at first but when I got the taste of it.....It was delicious. They had this thai special sauce which makes it so flavorful and you could tell they put in high quality meat because when you eat it, it is very enjoyable. I will be coming back again to probably eat all of the other bowls 🙂 Great job 10/10.

I usually do not make reviews but today they kind of just irked me. I always order the coffee but this time the milk ratio was really heavy. I didn’t want to ask at first because I know they would have to remake the whole drink because they serve them in those boba style sealed containers but I couldn’t just accept (at that point) that I had paid $8 for basically sweet cold milk. I asked them if there was anyway they could add more coffee but they offered to remake the drink. The set down the new drink and it looks exactly the same as the one I returned; all white with like the slightest hue of coffee in it. At this point I just accepted my losses and left with the remade “coffee”. I took a drink on my way home and it was actually worse, there was no sugar this time so it was just cold milk. I left there with a cup of milk for $8. I ended up just throwing it away and made this review out frustration. Probably not going to go back after this and since they got rid of those fire Banh mis.

Google
Quick and delicious! I got the chicken katsu sandwich and a brown sugar milk tea. The sandwich came with chips. Unfortunately there was a 30 minute wait for them to finish making more boba so I didn't try it. It happens though. Everything was super yummy and the prices were not bad. I would definitely eat here again. Edit: came again and was able to get a brown sugar milk tea with boba! They were closed when I got there and said they were reopening at 4pm. I went and got food from some other places and was just in time to get in line when they were opening again. They weren't serving sandwiches anymore and were out of the Vietnamese coffee. The brown sugar milk tea was really good and I also tried the mango limeade which had very strong mango flavor but was also very good.

Google
Super tasty boba! Lots of food options in the surrounding area.

Cashier is RUDE and unprofessional. She did not honor the advertised deal for a free Boba drink if you add a post on Instagram. Not cool. She said I could "just delete it." Bad customer service!

Google
I had the chicken katsu sando for my lunch. It tasted so good. I didn’t get any drinks but I saw many kinds of drinks on the menu. I should try some drinks that go with katsu sando next time.

Google
Hope it was just ne who came around 630pm, bought the brown sugar milk tea with Boba. Tlfelt mine wa ls to much milk and less tea. The sugar is a bit too sweet, and the boba has been sitting a bit long. Not bad for boba in Grand Central :)

Yelp
I often struggle to choose what to eat in large food halls like grand central market, but I was drawn to moon rabbit by their tea menu and saw the drink / bowl combo for $20 and was sold. Had a delicious jasmine cold brew which was a super generous size for the price. The real star though was the chicken satay bowl. Truly delectable and flavor some. I'll def be coming back! A hidden gem.

Yelp
Located in the Grand Central Market! -This is a popular joint as there is always a few people waiting to order. Service was fast! -I was dehydrated and cranky with the humidity in this market and Moon Rabbit was there to save me! They offer enough flavors for you to choose from on the menu. They all seemed to be very good. -Seating is all taken so you can enjoy your drink standing or continue to explore the area. * I got the classic Matcha Thai Tea with Boba. Delicious!! I would definitely come back to Moon Rabbit again. -The prices are right too!

Yelp
This is I think the only one I'd two boba offers in this hall. It's apart of a Thai eatery I haven't tried yet but will soon. I was looking for a quick matcha boba and they didn't quite offer but still had high quality green tea powder. The Thai green tea was the best option recommended by clerk. One size but semi affordable under $8. I sub oatmilk which is +2 but worth it because it's superior. It was basically like matcha, deep green and seems more authentic green tea serving. It was semi sweet the way I prefer. Definitely a go to spot in this dining hall. Also quick with service. When in doubt, boba!

Yelp
Stopped by Moon Rabbit at Grand Central Market, the branding really drew me in, so cute and easy to ready menu! Unfortunately, I originally received the wrong drink order and when I received the drink I did order (Mango Green tea Limeade) it was so sweet I could not finish it. I also ordered the Lemongrass Chicken Noodle Bowl, which had some nice ingredients, but was hard to eat due to the clumping of the noodles themselves.

Yelp
Love the colors and tiles of the place. This is what caught my eye. Plus the cute name. I saw the white rabbit frappe, and for $7 I was a little hesitant but got it anyway because I'm not here often. Waited about 5 minutes in line before I ordered. The service was good. The drink came out in 5-10 min, as others were in front of me on a busy Saturday afternoon. I was surprised that the drink was iced and not a "frappe" which was on me, as I assumed a frappe was an ice-blended drink like many other places. Not sure if that was an option, but I think that would be amazing as a drink. The drink itself was a wide cup, so I wasn't as iffy about the price anymore. It was very creamy and tasted just like white rabbit!! Which was my favorite candy as a kid, so to see white rabbit anything, I will always want to try it. The drink was great.

Yelp
I stumbled upon Moon Rabbit on a busy Saturday afternoon at the Grand Central Market. I'd been craving Bánh Mì for some time, and Moon Rabbit did not disappoint. The grilled pork bánh mì was delicious - offering the perfect bite between the savory soft pork, the crunchy fresh vegetables, and a great creamy sauce. My only complaint might be that the portion was on the smaller side for a bánh mì of that price (~$14); however, that's to be expected at Grand Central Market. Lastly, the rose black milk tea (75% sweet) was on the more subtle side in terms of flavor, but nonetheless refreshing.

Yelp
I was in the area for work and wanted some boba. Several shops popped up, but this one had the cutest name and was closest within walking distance. This location is inside a vast food court near the middle, so it can be challenging to find, especially with how crowded the food court can be. Once located, though, you have to figure out who is in line and who isn't, as there really isn't a waiting area and people all hover by this shop. The menu isn't vast, rather it's fairly small compared to other shops, especially ones that offer boba. Additionally, the shop moves pretty fast in getting drinks and food out (which is a huge plus). Unfortunately, I the boba wasn't the greatest. I got the rose milk tea with boba. The milk tea was really bland and the boba was old.

Yelp
I was walking around Grand Central Market and decided to get a drink. Unfortunately, it was no bueno. Got their special drink - Soda Chanh - It was super sweet and no lemon flavor at all.

Yelp
Went to sticky rice for Thai Tea and they sold out for the day. I'm so glad they did because I ran into this spot and got to try their Thai tea. They have many variations but today I went with the coconut and it was quite delish! Creamy with a coconut twist. I'm willing to come back another day and try their other creations too!

Yelp
Located behind Sticky Rice in Grand Central Market . They have new menus - rice bowls . I ordered Lemongrass chicken with Vietnamese noodles and Mango Sticky Rice Frappe' . Really good ! Will come back for sure.

Yelp
Ambiance: the sandwich shop is located in the center of grand central market, closer to spring st entrance Service: the cashier was busy and I had to wait for a while before I could place the order, let alone not very patient with ordering Food: simple sandwich and milk tea menu PORK BÁNH Mì - *** Vietnamese-style sandwich includes picked carrots and daikon, cilantro, jalapeño, liver pâté, and mayo on a baguette, cilantro wasn't fresh and mediocre taste overall Price: small sized sandwich, each order costs about $15

Yelp
Visited here on a relatively slow Thursday afternoon. They have 2 options for sando and we opted for their kaksu sando for $14. As a lover of all things ton-Katsu, Katsu sando here was below subpar... I was impressed at first from the enormous size of the sando, but I was quickly turned off from the first bite. The Katsu had a nice crispy exterior, but the pork was tough and chewy as if it has been sitting in their freezer for weeks. The pork also had no flavor, and they barely put any ton-Katsu sauce in the sando which would have gave it some taste profile. The cabbage salad was ok, although lot of the pieces were bitter. However, the most disappointing thing was their shokupan (Japanese milk bread). Most Katsu sandos I've tried usually have their crust cut, but they don't (which is fine). However, their bread was stale and dry, which didn't complement the katsu at all. Overall, I was mad at myself for picking this place. Yeah they might had an off day, but when you're at the grand central market that attracts many tourists, you should be on your A-game at all times since it will be a one-time experience for many people. Besides, the workers seemed annoyed that we were trying to order, maybe that's why this restaurant was dead when other places had lines forming constantly.

Yelp
Sautéed chicken w/ coconut rice. Nothing out of the ordinary but good quality/flavor. Portion could've been a little larger given it cost $17...can't fault them for Grand Central Market rent prices tho
google avatar

Trevor B.

Yelp
I has the Strawberry Lemonade Tea with boba. The flavor was strong and it was sweet. I will say it didn't taste like natural flavoring, likely syrups, but still not bad. The boba was thick and tender. They had plenty throughout the drink. The service was friendly. It took about 5 minutes for the drink to be prepared.
google avatar

Kiana T.

Yelp
Looooooove their drinks!!! It was our first time here and I'm wanting to try more! Cashier at the counter was super helpful because I couldn't make up my mind. what caught my eye was the white rabbit and I know that next time I'll get it. The brown sugar that I had ordered was soooo good. They also have lots of seating in the front!
google avatar

Lisa K.

Yelp
I have allergies and they refused to show me the ingredients of the sauce. The bottle they use was right there and I just would have needed to look at the listed ingredients on the bottle to check for my allergens. It was super strange. Every restaurant I've ever eaten at has willingly done this for me. It seriously made me wonder what's in the food?!
google avatar

Shawn G.

Yelp
Finally tried this place since I was craving banh mi. I ordered the roasted mushroom banh mi and the passion fruit green tea boba. The sandwich was super tasty and the boba was great too not overly sweet. One thing about this spot in GCM, they never seem to have a line. Give it a try and show them some support!
google avatar

Karon S.

Yelp
Chicken Katsu Sando is FABULOUS! Japanese style sandwich with fried chicken, shredded cabbage, Tonkatsu sauce (think ketchup and soy sauce but great), sesame dressing, on Milk Bread. You'd think a Tea Shop would have a hot tea option on a cold day. Sadly, no.
google avatar

James L.

Yelp
A delightful spot for viet food and boba at Grand Central Market. I stopped by here for a quick lunch, which included a pork bahn mi and a katsu sando. Both were great, would definitley come back for the bahn mi, the meat and bread were great quality.
google avatar

Amanda K.

Yelp
I've been seeing the Katsu sandwich on social media for so long so my boyfriend and I were so excited to try it but it was pretty mid and disappointing. The Katsu was fine but overall the sandwich was lacking sauce and just flavor in general. The bread was nothing special although it's advertised as Japanese milk bread. The egg rolls were surprisingly pretty good with a yummy meat filling, but please god save your money on the drinks because we got the Lychee Rasberry soda and the Pink Cloud Milk and both were absolutely awful. Overall not coming back but glad we tried.

Yelp
Always a treat visiting Grand Central Market, this time I wanted to try the chicken katsu sando and a beverage from Moon Rabbit. The service was fast and friendly, only had to wait about 10-15 minutes for my food and boba tea, even in the middle of the busy lunch rush. The hostess was welcoming and gave great suggestions about the milk teas and non-dairy tea options - I ended up going with the mango limeade which was perfectly refreshing on this hot summer day. The chicken was fresh, crispy, and flavorful, and paired wonderfully with the sandwich fillings. I added some hot sauce to mine which gave it just the right amount of heat. Overall, I really enjoyed Moon Rabbit and look forward to trying out their other drink options during my next visit and definitely returning for the chicken katsu.

Yelp
3 stars #2 of October 2022 DineLA experience. For $15, you get a sandwich, choice of chips, and choice of Thai tea or brown sugar milk tea. I got the pork banh mi, honey butter chips, and the brown sugar milk tea. Milk tea was refreshing since it was pretty hot inside Grand Central Market. I got the banh mi and, honestly, it needs work... The meat had a nice smokiness and char to it, but that's it. It was probably brined, but not marinated in any other seasoning. Customer service was good. Super nice people.
google avatar

Willy N.

Yelp
Best sandwich ever!! The chicken katsu sando was out of this world. The milk bread was perfectly soft and tasty. The chicken katsu was very crispy and flavorful. Each bite was utter perfection! The Coconut Thai Tea was also very tasty. It wasn't overly sweet, and you could really taste the tea flavors. My only gripe was the boba was pretty clumpy. Overall, my visit here was great! The food and drinks were tasy! Can't wait to be back!

Yelp
Wandered around GCM looking for any new spots, surprisingly only a few. Moon Rabbit is one I hadn't seen before so decided to try and I am glad I did. They offer two food items on their menu, Banh Mi and a Katsu Sando. Keep it simple. The Banh Mi was fantastic. They put a liver pate on it that really sets it apart. Service was fast, there is seating nearby.
google avatar

Haley A.

Yelp
I got the chicken bahn mi and it was pretty basic. The first half definitely was better than the second half that I ate following... Originally I came here to get the katsu sando, but they sold out at about around 7 pm on a Friday night. Definitely get the pork over chicken just trust me the pork had a more bbq flavor.

Karen M.

Yelp
Oh my goodness We were at the GCM today and needed something refreshing we got the delicious teas and boba But the thing that really separated this place from other boba places was the mango and sticky rice concoction! Unbelievably delicious and refreshing! Grateful LA is my home and I can go back Sooner than later Will have to try some of the scrumptious looking food at that time'
google avatar

Max L.

Yelp
I got the grilled chicken bahn mi for $14. The chicken was dry, not much sauce, and the bun was thick & dry, so wasn't very pleasant to chew/swallow. Veggies were fresh but didn't make up for how dry the chicken and bread were. Seemed overpriced for the quality.
google avatar

Cj P.

Yelp
Service is really good here. They are nice, and the reason I gave 4 stars. The milk tea is just okay.

Yelp
Review for a drink and other factors besides food. Came for the Thai Soft Serve with Boba but they didn't serve it that day (Sunday). Was a bit disappointed and considered leaving but decided to snag a Strawberry Fresh Milk Boba for $6.57 before tip so I believe they charged me for added boba despite the $5.5 price point mentioning boba in the description. The cups are fat and wider which a few other spots have, but the usability is poor due to the difficulty fitting in cup holders. Also didn't get asked about adjusting sugar or ice so not even sure that's an option, but it's pretty much a standard at boba spots. Strawberry Fresh Milk Boba - strawberry puree and fresh milk shaken makes an obvious strawberry milk. It's tasty and refreshing without being overly sweet. Boba was whatever though, it's chewy but lacks flavor. I'd skip out on toppings especially if there's an additional charge despite being in the description. Would stop by for a drink though and pair it with a meal at the Grand Central Market.
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
REVIEW FOR DRINK I was looking for a refreshing drink and I'm glad I got the blueberry limeade! It tasted pretty much exactly what I thought it would taste like, blueberry with hints of jasmine tea. The lime flavor became more potent as the slices of limes soaked in the cup and the mint wasn't very strong. I'm not sure how the other drinks tasted but this wasn't bad!
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
First time trying Moon Rabbit and I had no expectations. I usually pick out a black milk tea or thai tea with boba, but I decided to try the Sea Salt Coconut. It's a Jasmine Green tea with brown sugar, coconut milk, sea salt, and coconut cream. I added coconut jelly to it as well. It tasted way better than the photo looks. It was mildly sweet, not too sweet and I liked the jelly. I usually cut the sugar in my boba teas by half, but didn't need to here. It was a little pricy and even though the fat cups are cute, they're terrible if you want to stick it in a cup holder. I would probably order something again if I was here and had a craving for boba, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.
google avatar

Nialani T.

Yelp
Came in for a Chicken Banh Mi. I asked the cashier if it was white or dark meat. She insisted it was white meat (which I prefer and hoped for) so I happily paid $21 for the sandwich & iced coffee. The sandwich was 80% shredded carrots and only a few small pieces of chicken per side that ended up being undercooked THIGH meat! The meat was very fatty and had some blood running through it, Ew! 1 bite and I'm grossed out. REFUND! The iced coffee was very tasty tho.
google avatar

Maria D.

Yelp
I only got the bubble tea here so not sure about the food but my husband ordered the chicken Katsura sandwich and said was pretty tasty. The chicken was kinda oily so kind of disappointed that it was t more crispy but flavors were there. I ordered the blueberry jasmine green tea with aloe Vera gel and he ordered the lemon, honey and aloe very bubble tea which he really enjoyed too! I like that the tea comes in like a cup/bowl size that unique, like something that looks like to-go container size but great drink and great flavors for the price!
google avatar

Hannah E.

Yelp
I love a good vegetarian banh mi, and this one looked like it was going to be at least interesting, if not exactly traditional (which is fine if it's done right!). I told them to leave the pate on - though I'm now what I guess you would call a flexitarian, I love pate enough to prefer to still have it even when the rest of the sandwich is vegetarian. Roasted wild mushrooms in turmeric and lemongrass. The 'roasted wild mushrooms in turmeric and lemongrass' tasted mostly of turmeric. I would have loved for there to be more lemongrass. I would have loved there to be more herbs in general, actually. Because they didn't pickle their carrot/daikon, the overall effect was a little muted. But it was still hearty, and pretty tasty. They give you a BUCKET of soda chanh, so if you're parched, by all means visit for that.
google avatar

Elizabeth O.

Yelp
Just the best Bahn mi. Everything perfect. And yummy milk tea. Tofu, pork or chicken with all the right touches.
google avatar

Angelica L.

Yelp
We got the grilled pork banh mi ($13) which is overpriced but it's located in Grand Central Market so they can justify their high prices for banh mi. The banh mi is a bit smaller than expected but full of veggies. Their ratio is like 50% vegetables and 50% pork. There was too much cilantro and it wasn't really cut up. The carrots were not pickled correctly. There was barely any flavor. The mayonnaise and soy sauce was unevenly distributed. The only good thing was the grilled pork which was actually more like pork belly since it was so fatty. This would be one of the worst banh mi we had in LA.
google avatar

Keiko D.

Yelp
The brown sugar milk tea was really good and I also tried the mango limeade which had very strong mango flavor but was also very good.
google avatar

Akeesa G.

Yelp
Had the Brown Sugar Milk Tea, was not sweet enough for me, lacked the full flavor of a milk tea but it tasted fresh. Server was really helpful and friendly. Would definitely go back to try a fruit tea!
google avatar

Juan F.

Yelp
Came here during DineLA for their $15 Wagyu Sando. Disclosure - it doesn't come with sides or drinks but the other one does. The Wagyu Sando was good - but definitely overcooked. The photo they posted on social shows they service it rare/medium rare but when I opened mine (immediately after getting it from the counter so no residual heat cooked it more) it was gray throughout. It was still good, but not great.
google avatar

Sera Y.

Yelp
Very mid tier tea in my opinion. The tea was very watered down and didn't taste as good. They also couldn't adjust sweetness level since the tea is all premade (not uncommon, but still inconvenient). I asked for no ice and for some reason they also couldn't do that which seemed kinda unreasonable to me. Amount of boba was also a little short for the amount of tea. Overall, a subpar experience especially given the relatively high $7 (post tax) price point
google avatar

Aaron L.

Yelp
Look at the photo and tell if that looks good? I ordered the mushroom bahn Mi and it's so oily! What it is that? It's the mushrooms are very oily and salty and the fillings don't fit in the sandwich because the way they make it. They don't even use real baguette! It's like a plain roll you can get at Ralph's. So expensive for such a lousy sandwich's
google avatar

Jamie L.

Yelp
Was excited to try the Wagyu sando after seeing their post, but disappointed at the well done bland steak we received. The only saving grace was the chicken katsu sando which was juicy and crispy. Restaurant week deal is choice of sandwich (except Wagyu), chips, and either milk tea or Thai tea for $15. But only the Thai tea was available during lunch today. Wagyu katsu sandwich comes a la carte for $15. Experience was disappointing. Chicken sando saved this from being a 1 star review.
google avatar

Yery J.

Yelp
i walked into grand central for a late lunch (around 4) and other places were closed so i decided to give moon rabbit a go. i ordered the chicken katsu sando and food came out really fast - wait time was around 5 mins. food wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as i expected from a store that sells just this sandwich and the bahn mi. the sando is pretty mid: katsu and sauce itself was pretty good, cole slaw was ok, the white bread could be so much better. it was a good try, but i wouldn't go back to have this again.
google avatar

Kristen K.

Yelp
We were walking around Grand Central Market and looking for a cold drink so we decided to stop by Moon Rabbit! I ordered the Mango Limeade fruit tea with lychee jelly and it was very refreshing with the right amount of sweetness, I'd definitely order it again. We weren't planning on getting food, but we saw a lot of people in the seating area with the Chicken Katsu Sando so we had to give it a shot. While the individual components of the sandwich were pretty solid - the chicken katsu, milk bread, and cabbage - I think I was hoping for more flavor especially for the price ($13). [ Parking ] Parking in DTLA is usually a challenge, especially on weekends. If you get lucky you might find metered street parking nearby, but otherwise I'd recommend paying to park at a public parking lot [ Seating ] It's Grand Central Market so while there are tons of tables, it's fairly crowded, but you'll find something eventually if you wait around a bit. The sandwich comes in a box and isn't too messy, so it's fairly easy to eat at a standing table if needed!
google avatar

Julia G.

Yelp
Saw a lot of reviews about the chicken katsu sandwich so thought I'd try! The chicken was juicy and the bread was so so soft. A pool of sauce ended up leaking out of the sandwich (the bread didn't really soak it up) but it was a good meal and a lot of food overall. Service was pretty fast and friendly. Lots of tables available inside GCM.
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
I think i ordered the 2 worst drinks. Sea salt coconut and rose. One tasted like coconut milk and the other one tasted like straight up tea. Next time will come to try the food and not the drinks.
google avatar

Emily I.

Yelp
This place is the bees knees. I love every place in Grand Central, but this place is special. The biggest boba cups in the LA area - feels like $6 is worth it. You really can do any combo here - but I think pairing the milk/Thai teas with brown sugar boba & the fruit/green teas w/ lychee coconut jelly makes for the most optimal experience. For the food, get the banh mi. The soft shell crab is easily one of the best sandwiches I've ever had - it's uniqueness grabbed my attention and the flavors blended together effortlessly. Next time I will try the mushroom banh mi and the Vietnamese coffee w/ coffee jelly...
google avatar

Rebecca H.

Yelp
Nestled in Grand Central Market is this place. Apparently it's owned by the Sticky Rice founder! They have delicious looking sandwiches but we were in the market for boba tea on that faithful afternoon. I ordered the brown sugar boba, Tina the jasmine green milk tea. They come in MASSIVE cups, more wide and short than I'm used to. It was delicious, as boba tea usually is.
google avatar

Katie L.

Yelp
Cute aesthetic. Nice staff. Quick organized service. Ok, let's get started. I was super excited to try a katsu sandwich for the first time! The kastsu sando comes with pork or chicken katsu for $14. The pork itself was moist juicy and super thick. I loved the thick fluffy and slightly sweet milk bread. Overall, It was a bit underwhelming. There wasn't enough breading for the katsu. So the breading to meat ratio was off. I wish the katsu was slightly more crispy. The pork katsu itself was not seasoned enough. I liked the sesame dressing on the sandwich. But so much of the dressing leaked from the bottom of my sandwich. There wasn't enough of the cabbage in the sandwich, especially compared to the photos they have on instagram. The katsu did not fit the entirety of the bread, so there was more than enough bread. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't get it again. This is just my opinion though as I am sure other people might like it.
