Omg yummy... Proper baked goods that remind me of European fragrant ones

Google
Excellent bakery as mentioned in previous reviews. Not a huge selection but perfectly adequate and everything is done very well. No seating area so it’s a grab and go place. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Had the jalapeño, ham and cheese kolache as well as the lemon tart. The kolache was fine, not too spicy, kinda on the small size so get two. The lemon tart was excellent; not too tart nor too sweet. The ratio of crust to filling was spot on as well. My wife loved the chocolate croissant and cherry kolache she ordered. Didn’t get any drinks this time. Great local place, highly recommend.

Google
Everything at Moonlight is delicious! The regular and chocolate croissants are both delightful, but the orange blossom is truly off the charts good. The Italian bread loaf is a knockout and the owner is so very kind. Best bakery in the South Lamar area, hands down.

Google
I adore this bakery. A neighborhood fave, Norma the owner is just the sweetest and damn those pastries are so good! She offers unique items as well as classics. Kolaches too.

I just went to pick up bread and came back with coconut macarons, cinnamon rolls, and pecan rolls. The lady at the counter was really friendly and gave is coconut macarons to taste before we bought any. Everything was delicious. Highly recommend.

Google
Moonlight, Moonlight, Moonlight Bakery… The best since I left New Orleans. My wife fell in love with the Lemon Tart and Frosted Cinnamon Roll. Simply Amazing. Service was so Amazing and knowledgeable. I’m looking forward to trying other options, the breads etc.

Google
So many pastry options and desserts!!!!!! Apple strudel, cream puff, and napoleon were all very good taste! Their cream puff cream is mixture of custard cream and whipped cream, so it is well balanced texture and taste! Napoleon is very crispy! Also price is reasonable. I bought three pastries but it was less than $8!!!

Google
I was in Austin and my wife wanted me to pick her up some pastries from a local bakery. I'm glad she did. I had to get an assortment. Everything looked amazing. I heard the cinnamon rolls were amazing so I got a couple of those. They did not disappoint. Maybe the best we've had. The lady was super nice and helpful. Fair prices and so far everything was tasty. If I'm in the area again I will definitely stop by. If you're looking for some tasty baked goods you cant go wrong here. I should have bought more cinnamon rolls!

Yelp
Norman is hands down who everyone wants in a baker. She makes the most delicious pastries! The orange blossom was amazing! I sent my husband one morning because he was up too early and he came back glowing about his interaction with her, and a huge bag of delicious! We sat in bed talking about Norman and eating pastries for an hour! The place is so adorable. The space is welcoming, service to die for...... and people.... This lady can seriously bake! We can not wait to go in regularly!

Yelp
Thursday 7/25/2024 I had this spot on my list since my last visit in Austin last year and now I've finally made my visit. I got there around 9:30 am and they were completely sold out of their kolaches which was tough but it didn't knock the experience because I still got what I really wanted. The lady working was very friendly and nice. We even started talking about Deadpool 3 and other stuff which was cool as she was as a nice person to talk to. I got a baked apple fritter and a cinnamon roll for a total of $6 (GREAT PRICES). - The baked apple fritter was a BANGER and something that I can't say I've had before. You can definitely taste the apples and the icing on the pastry kind of reminded me of a cinnamon roll. Also the dough was very good: nice and soft. - The cinnamon roll was ANOTHER BANGER and is definitely the best cinnamon roll I've had during my times in Austin. It reminded me of a classic home baked type of cinnamon roll. The breading was SOFT and the cinnamon, dough, & icing work very well together to create a balanced and tasty cinnamon roll. All in all, I love this spot. The prices are great and the baked goods are delicious. I would 100% recommend this spot and definitely come back whenever I find myself back in Austin.

Yelp
OH YES!!! OUTSTANDING Bakery right around the corner. This Chef/Baker SCORED with: Sausage Kolache. Ham, Swiss, Jalapeño Kolache. Orange Blossom. Almond Croissant. Kolache dough was soft, nice and notable that they were FRESH out of the oven at 6:30am. Orange Blossom is certain to be a favorite crave, not too sweet, soft, comforting citrus, above and beyond... YUM!! The almond croissant was nothing special, just okay. Ham, cheese, jalepeno kolache was the BEST kolache ever. CAN'T beat their price point, $10 for four beautiful handmade pastries!!! Will def return for fresh baked bread and other tantalizing goodies.

Yelp
Such a hidden gem! The lady who owns it is so nice, I found this place after going to Pilates next door and now I look forward to Pilates just to go get myself a treat. I first got the cookies and omg so delish, price is amazing, and they are small size so I don't feel bad giving one to my baby. Trust me, get the dozen. Then I finally made it to get one of the chocolate croissant. Listen, I'm French. First of all the name is actually pain au chocolat, and it's HARD to find good ones in Austin. These are the best I've had here, hands down. I can't stop wanting more. Never have time to even take a pic of them before I devour them. Anyway, it's a hole in the wall, there is no cute seating or anything, but you're gonna get the best pastries for a really reasonable price. Run.

Yelp
Norma was so sweet and I had a sample of the chocolate chip cookies those were awesome. I ended up getting 2 apple fritters, a bear claw and a beautiful croissant. A great local bakery, no fuss !

Yelp
My family has been to a lot of local bakeries in south Austin and this is easily our favorite. My favorites are the almond croissant and the orange blossom but you really can't go wrong, and the sausage kolaches are the best we've had. It's not a cafe so there are no tables, but service is very quick and friendly (Norma is great) and the prices are great for the area.

Naz B.

Yelp
This is a gem place, you enter this local bakery (owned by a chef couple) and you are in another world! this is proper stand-alone bakery offering excellent healthy breads and european style baked goods. in addition to the quality, you get to chat with a beautiful, resourceful wife, Ms. Norma, who would take time to ask how you are doing! We treat ourselves and my friends/students often. For parking, you simply need to read the signed and follow property rules which parking belongs to which stores. Do treat yourself TODAY with an almond croissant THANK YOU also for being open during the COVID-19 and all the yummies you share with our community!

Yelp
Incredible local bakery that does everything they make well. I get a loaf of fresh sourdough every week, let them know how thick you want it cut! The pastries and cookies are amazing, my favorite is the cinnamon buns and the fruit danishes. Wonderful owner that is always pleasant and kind. i love that this place is in the neighborhood. Support local business, this is a place that deserves it.

Yelp
best bakery in town. Owner really hands on and everything is homemade. come and check out. I went here at 4 pm so it's almost empty but still I was able to buy some and never disappointed me. Owner was really nice and so friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Great little bakery. I stopped by for coffee and got suckered in by the delicious cinnamon rolls. Definitely coming back when I'm in town.
google avatar

Yelp
Takeout only--my FAVORITE place for delicious rolls--especially the baked apple fritters!
google avatar

Yelp
Norma is so sweet! She's always cheery and talkative and remembers you! Stopping by Moonlight Bakery to be greeted by her friendly face as you indulge in their delicious cinnamon buns, almond croissants, orange blossoms, and pecan sticky buns is a great way to start the day and impress your coworkers with sweet treats! Moonlight is a local bakery that still has the old Austin vibes and hasn't been spoiled by all the newcomers... yet. They don't overcharge you like many of the local bakeries, and the taste is much better. Trust me, I've tried all of them!

Valerie D.

Yelp
Moonlight Bakery is one of Austin's original spots with super delicious baked goods, lady who works behind the counter is super nice as well. This place isn't on the lists of "TOP BAKERIES" in Austin but its a no frills bakery with absolutely killer croissants and kolaches. Been coming here for years when I allow my self a little treat and I always get the chocolate croissant, butter croissant, raisin snail and sausage kolache.
google avatar

Yelp
nicest people....owner made me 50 cookies last minute purchase I needed for Ave 5 graduates thank you moonlight the students loved your awesome choc chip cookies
google avatar

Yelp
This little gem tucked away in a small shopping center on SLamar gets my vote for yummiest morning rolls at very reasonable prices. Their baked apple fritter is delicious! Friendly staff too.
google avatar

Lee R.

Yelp
Finally stopped by, so happy I did! The chocolate croissant was flakely and buttery on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, delicious. The maple danish falls apart in your mouth, incredible. Glad I stumbled upon this place. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
This is a special place. I would rank Moonlight right up there among the elite U.S. bakeries. The kouign amann is perfection--- a sweet lean dough, and it's so popular that I strongly advise getting there early or ordering ahead. Beautiful cinnamon rolls and croissants. Have to say too that the amazing baker serving us was over the top great, giving advice and even putting a bit of icing on a cinnamon roll that she felt needed some extra "love"! This is only take-out as there is no seating.....but I dare you to resist a bite as soon as your tush hits your car seat!
google avatar

Junus A.

Yelp
Year+ later I LOVE this place, such a gem. Who makes edible croissants in town? These guys. Who makes adorable and delicious little cookies? these guys. Orange blossom is still a hitter. Love being able to say I ate a kouign-amann. Most people have no idea how it's spelled, but I do, now. And the woman running the front is sooo sweet. I would get into a long personal anecdote from this morning but that's too much, but suffice it to say, she really made my morning today. Also the kolaches here are dope. Maybe one day I'll stop calling it Midnight Bakery.

Yelp
It was a fine small bakery in Austin in a non-descript mini-mall. I had the cinnamon bun which was fine -- nothing special. Service was Texas friendly, meaning as a big city person, she was much more talkative than I'm used to.

L B.

Yelp
We walked in, looked at selections and walked out. We heard someone say hello from the back, but no one came to the front. Shelves were nearly empty (which I guess is good for the business) but nothing like the photos posted here. I guess we were looking for something that was not there when we stopped by.
google avatar

Yelp
Best fruit kolaches!! I like the blueberry kind. It's my favorite bakery in Austin :) good hours, really fair prices, and super delicious

Rose R.

Yelp
Best sweet kolaches and great prices! Super friendly staff and my girlfriend loves the cheese danishes
google avatar

Susan K.

Yelp
We adore this place! Haven't tried anything here we don't like, but the orange blossoms and ham and swiss kolaches are faves.

Yelp
Cute place, great service. I enjoyed everything I got.

Yelp
My husband passes this bakery on his way home from work every day. We wanted a little treat for a special occasion so I decided to give it a try. First of all, if you are seeking it out for the first time, it is kind of hidden and sneaks up on you. I passed it coming down Lamar but parked in the nearby Chipotle and walked. A cute little bakery but no ready to go cakes. Mostly cookies, cupcakes, cinnamon rolls and pastries. There were some slices of Napoleon cake so I bought 4 of those to try. 3 of us loved them, one person though it was "way too sweet". The bakery was cute and the woman behind the counter was super sweet and friendly. So I will definitely try it again. I do wish there were more ready to be bought cakes however.

Yelp
Great coconut macaroons (my favorite) Fabulous cinnamon roll with flaky dough like a croissant
google avatar

Wayne N.

Yelp
Some of the best kolaches in town. They aren't doughy or too dense - just right with very flavorful fillings. My personal favorite are the ham and swiss as well as the jalepeno sausage and cheese - the latter especially is very well balanced between rich and fatty with some heat. Other baked goods are great too - cinnamon rolls as well as the almond croissants, but the stronger suit is honestly the kolaches I think. Grab a box for your crew and they'll love you for it.
google avatar

Ziyan C.

Yelp
I like how unassuming this spot is. Nothing fancy, crazy affordable (everything $1-3), yet great pastries. The owner is crazy friendly and talkative. Very genuine, will give you tons of advice about Austin if you're an out-of-towner. She also threw in a free muffin at the end. I got the Apple Strudel (4 stars, highly recommended by her), Raspberry Kolache (3.5 stars), and the Poppyseed muffin (2.5 stars but this was the free one). See my photos for additional review details!
google avatar

Mikayla C.

Yelp
I don't live near this bakery but I would take time out of my day to get some sweets! Would very much recommend the bear claw!

Katie S.

Yelp
The pastries here are always incredible. If there is something specific you want I'd recommend getting there early because they do tend to sell out early. The owner is also a gem and is incredibly sweet and helpful. The prices here are also unbeatable, you want find anything near as good anywhere else in austin
google avatar

Yelp
Best bakery in town. My favorite items are the sausage jalapeno and cheese kolaches and the chocolate croissants, but everything is really yummy. I have purchased custom cakes here and they have always been made with care and finished on schedule. The daily bread is stellar. The owner is a sweetie, great location and prices are fair. Get there early so they haven't sold out of your favorite items, because they are a popular small business!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely cannot go wrong here! I live on S Lamar super close by so I love dropping by Moonlight before or after errands or when I'm in the mood for a sweet treat. The staff is so friendly and what I love most is that I can just pick whatever looks good and when I pay I always think there must be a mistake because the prices are so reasonable. Gives me the freedom to try something new and it's all delicious! Love this place!! QUICK FYI- nothing to do with Moonlight but the signs in the strips parking lot that warn it's only for customers is not a joke. They have an attendant that sits in an office and boots your car as soon as you leave their property.

Anna J.

Yelp
Delicious croissants and cheese danish! Excellent service being open even during a freeze. Will be back!
google avatar

Thad M.

Yelp
This place has the best cinnamon roll in Austin, hands down. Seriously, I made it a mission to find the best cinnamon roll in Austin. I visited about 15 places that make cinnamon rolls, developed a rating system and I did the research. This place won- by a landslide. Yeah, I'm a little cinnamon roll obsessed. Almost all their other baked goods are equally great. The kolaches are good. The cherry cheese danish is amazing and a large size. Not many places make anything with poppyseed, but they do have a poppyseed danish thing that is good, but a little dry. Muffins, bread, danish, ....... it is all better than most. This is always my first stop for baked goods. Get here early on the Saturday because the coveted cinnamon rolls are usually sold out by 9am.
google avatar

Austin G.

Yelp
This bakery is awesome. Came by around 9am on a Monday morning and picked up a Sesame Pain Suisse, an Orange Blossom Kouign Amann, some sort of fruit-tart-jam danish as well as the savory kolache and some of the little chocolate cookies. The highlights were all of the sweet pastries - easily. These people know their way around a buttery, flaky, layer filled dough, I'd put them head to toe against anyone. Half the negative reviews are people complaining they don't have good selection at 5pm and the other half are complaints about bespoke orders - take it for what you will. If you show up morning time looking for some freshly baked goods you're in for a treat.

Yelp
Stopped by after a cell phone repair hoping for chocolate chip cookies that I remembered as delicious from years ago. Cookies were sold out, but we got a couple croissants which were GOOD! So good that we devoured them on the way home rather than with coffee in the morning as planned. My French husband was ready to drive back to purchase the few remaining croissants, but luckily for my waistline it was after closing time. We will be back (earlier next time!) to sample more of the French pastries. Highly recommend this little bakery.

Yelp
New to town and searched Yelp Reviews for a local bakery. We were thrilled with our birthday cake- we asked for plain white cake and vanilla buttercream so we could top with our own cake topper/decorations. I appreciated the smaller sizing options and the quick turnaround time. The cake was fresh and a true "wedding white" which is hard to find. Additionally, the customer service was above and beyond with a welcoming smile.

M. F.

Yelp
Friendly, delicious, incredible gift to our neighborhood! Holiday thanks to the team producing these delicacies that MAKE MY DAY. I gift pastries to friends, since the treats are guaranteed to be the very best quality and SO much better than homemade or packaged goodies. This place often sells out by noon, but special orders are honored and an afternoon stop can be rewarded with fresh goodies--even eclairs and creme puffs. My faves are the orange sunburst, maple danish, and savory breakfast kolaches.
google avatar

Gee C.

Yelp
I had to pick up some cookies today, searched in the Lamar area I was in and found this bakery. What a great treat! Chocolate cookies were small in size, but loaded with chocolate. Gluten free Peanut Butter cookies were perfect structure and flavor, and snicker doodles were great too, but not my favorites. Will definitely have to go back to try more goodies. They sell cookies by the dozen and it was very convenient to pick up three flavors dozen each, you can also mix and match.
google avatar

Sandra H.

Yelp
Very tasty baked goods in this neighborhood bakery. I stop by often. Nice people. Everything I've had has been delicious!
google avatar

Wes W.

Yelp
Awesome cinnamon rolls, cookies, cooked breads, fruit kolaches, and other sweets. The cinnamon rolls are very good along with the cinnamon raisin bread. Ok yelpers, here's the deal. Their primary focus is cakes and ordered desserts. The bakery items are whatever is cooked for that day. Saw a few people say certain things were already sold out. Its not like a donut shop where they are constantly refilling the racks. Still, there is a very good selection of different bakery items. If you know for sure you want something, call the order a few hours ahead and they will make you a fresh batch. I didnt order a cake, but by other reviews and the cool flavors available, I probably will sometime soon. Open till 6 on Fri/Sat. Great bakery!
google avatar

kelsey w.

Yelp
Awe I loved this place! They made a Tres Leches cake for my boyfriends first Father's Day and it was only $12. They had a TON of pastries and I took it on my pregnant self to literally buy 12 of them. All were really good but I was super into the puff pastries. So yes, I will definitely order again next time I want a cake or next time I'm craving a delish pastry (which unfortunately, is a lot).

Yelp
I love this place. Great bakery. Great people. Be sure to get the almond croissant!!!
google avatar

Holly T.

Yelp
So good! Great service as well. I've loved pretty much everything I've tried from there but I think the croissant is my favorite. It's so flaky and buttery and perfect. Anyway, I highly recommend Moonlight Bakery.
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
Moonlight Bakery was first introduced to me via a small drive through coffee shop that bought cinnamon rolls from Moonlight Bakery and sold them at a marked up rate. I thought they were a steal... ten times better than most and less expensive. Then I found out where they came from and that they were $1 cheaper than the coffee place sold them for... WHAT? When I say they are the BEST cinnamon rolls I have ever eaten, I realize that is subjective. However, I am not alone... every one in my house LOVES their cinnamon rolls and anything else I get there... chocolate croissant, cream cheese danish, kolaches, literally everything is very, very good. But we have tried to find better but we are always landing firmly on Moonlight Bakery as the BEST! And the service is always the same... warm, friendly, local, amazing! I hesitate to share this info... they already run out of cinnamon rolls on occasion and sharing the truth is only going to make them more popular... however, it is a gift to great not to share! Go early, order extra!

Lauren L.

Yelp
The cinnamon rolls are TO DIE FOR!!!!!!! The bake, the ingredients, the execution ...everything about it was amazing. They taste like the cinnamon rolls my grandma never made. The kolaches are as well, the yeast breading on the outside reminded me of home and it felt like a hug from God himself. ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND!!!!
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
This is the best place in Austin to get pastries!!! I love love the Lemon Tart, I mean look at it!
google avatar

EricChrissy D.

Yelp
First time trying out this bakery and only 1 word describes it "Delicious"!!!!! Absolutely the BEST bakery in South Austin.

Amy L.

Yelp
Amazing little bakery with prices that seriously can't be beat. Get there early for a bigger selection because they will sell out! Have not had a single bad bite there. Every pastry is so fresh, buttery and perfection. Highly recommend and one of the best hidden gems in austin
