Yelp
Moonlight is mere blocks from where I live. I love Thai cuisine and good Thai food is abundant in Portland. There are a number of stellar Thai restaurants within a mile or less from my neighborhood. With so many amazing experiences I have almost come to expect a quality base line level for Thai food in this city as there is so much competition.
I love many exotic Thai dishes but lately I have been a little more basic, craving/eating pineapple fried rice. It is an easy enough dish but there are many who go above and beyond by using fresh ingredients and adding their own style to the dish. So the other day during a craving I went into moonlight to order a carry out container of pineapple fried rice. The service was fine, no complaints about that at all. I was told it would be ready in 15-20 minutes so I walked home and came back in that time frame. When I returned the food was ready! I was impressed with this. E
When I got home I couldn't wait to dig in, so imagine my disappointment when I opened my container only to find a pile of mushy rice with some very sad chicken on it, a few cashews and a few mushy sprigs of broccoli on it. That was it! That's all there was in the container, not a single solitary shred of pineapple to be found. No other veggies, no other ingredients whatsoever. Just a gob of mushy rice, a few pieces of over cooked broccoli, some sad gross trimmings of chicken breast, and a few cashews. No other sauces or anything.
My 8 year olds son could have made this dish. There is no excuse for what I was sold. It did not even resemble the classic dish we expect when ordering pineapple fried rice. Effort would be required to fail this miserably. As such, I will not be spending any more money at this establishment for fear of receiving other sad presentations of classic dishes.
There are far too many other amazing Thai options in the neighborhood to risk my dollars at Moonlight.
