Google
The absolute best smash burger we have ever had!!! It was just perfect. Crispy edges. Soft bun. Perfectly cooked bacon. Then there were the smash fries. A burger on the fries? WHAT??? So good!! They were like a weird deconstructed cheeseburger! We will visit again. Great food. Very friendly staff. Just awesome!!!

Google
The food was descent, w some value in part, but it didn’t match the current rating. However nice vibes there in general incl good service The burger was pretty descent. The patties had a crisp, and there were savory ‘extra’ flavors from the onions/etc that gave it a sharper flavor distinctness. I was underwhelmed though w the patty size. If you pay for a triple patty, I expect more. It was like the size of one descent-ish burger. The fries are exactly like in and out. Small, crisp, simple tasting, but kinda cardboard-y. You get a lot for the $4 price tag however. Overall they are nice and fine just not high score amazing. Overall, I wouldn’t mind coming back, but I don’t think this is a five star burger place. It’s fine and descent enough, but for me, I’m gonna continue searching for a great, phenomenal burger in the city.

Moonlit Burgers Dormont GOOD: Burger tasted pretty good, cooked perfect. Service was friendly and fast BAD: Value for the money "where's the beef?" Shake was far too small for the price and syrupy sweet. Moonlit burgers in Dormont had good reviews and good pictures of burgers, so I was eager to try it. My double bacon cheeseburger did taste good. It came out fast and they did cook it perfectly. My problem with Moonlit burgers is when the burger patties are smashed so thin you basically get four ounces between two patties at most for well over thirteen dollars - just a burger, no fries. Additionally, my shake seemed between 6-8 ounces, very small, and it was so sweet. It tasted like syrup; I had to stop consuming. I don't mind paying 21 dollars for a generous delicious burger and a large shake, but twenty one dollars for a tiny shake, and maybe four ounces of beef just doesn't cut it. I know this place is popular, but you still need to supply value for the dollar.

Tonight was Moonlit Burgers. I have been craving a really great smash burger and since it’s been a little too cold I thought tonight would be the perfect night to grab one of these babies. We’ve been before but don’t make it to Dormont often (patiently waiting for Sewickley location to open soon 👀) I got the blood orange mule they had which was solid but could use a little less ginger beer and a little more citrus (my preference). I got the classic triple and Clare got the classic single. The burgers have a great lace on them, the onions are cooked perfectly and the cheese is nice and melty. The crunchy lace mixed in with the pickles and all the other components makes this truly one of the best smash burgers around. The shoestring fries are so crunchy and have the right amount of salt they’re just perfect for me too. Couldn’t stop eating them.

Google
As a former vegan experimenting with food, this was the best food I've had in a long long time. My chicken sandwich was amazing. The shoestring fries reminded me of childhood and I loved it. Boyfriend loved his bacon burger. I cannot wait to come back. Super friendly staff. Just an amazing experience.

Google
Exactly what I was hoping for. Great smash burger with skinny fries that were hot, salty and crisp. Chicken tenders were lightly coated and made in house. Simple fresh garden salad that was packed with ingredients.

Google
The service here is absolutely amazing. I eat a gluten free diet while the rest of my family eats a normal diet and not only did their gluten free options taste absolutely amazing, they also packed my food separate which I thought was so incredibly thoughtful. The servings are very nicely sized, if not a little big for me and the atmosphere of the restaurant was stunning. They have single-person restrooms which makes it very accommodating for those who can’t/don’t want to use multi-person restrooms for whatever reason. We will definitely be coming back here!

Google
Best smashed burger so far in Pittsburgh. Highly recommended. Cozy tables and seating available inside and outside. Milkshakes and a bar available also. Staff was helpful and friendly. No direct parking available, paid street parking Clean bathroom. I tried the classes moonlit double cheese burger, loved the special sauce. The fries order is big good for two to share.

Yelp
Absolutely obsessed with their burgers. They have a gluten free bun that's really good and their fries never disappoint. Looking forward to the Sewickley location opening soon!

Yelp
Smash burgers are my thing, and Moonlit does them well. It took me quite a while to get here for the first time, but their online ordering for pickup was seemless and their staff was incredibly friendly. But for a meal costing over $20 for a burger, fries and drink - I was hoping to at least be full, and it's just not a lot of "bang for your buck." The shoestring fries are part of the problem. They aren't my favorite style to begin with but a $4 side is basically equivalent to a McDonalds small fries. This is a very cool spot though and I'm glad to see them doing well on Dormont!

Yelp
Mmm came in for a first time and first customer of the day, at 4:00 pm had to ask for instructions after finding a booth, menu on wall, walk to register for service. Food was disappointing. Ambiance food tray on walls. I want to give a good review.

Yelp
Revisited the other day. The burgers here are great, just a delicious smash burger. The fries this time were a bit of a let down. You get a ton, but I'll skip them next go around. Hope to get a shake next time too. Fast service and ample street parking available.

Yelp
Moonlit is a favorite spot of ours for smash burgers in the South Hills. My favorite menu item is their Smash Fries - they are exactly like the burger (meat and all), but piled on their shoe string fries. So good! Prices are fair, but we love going during the Steeler games when they run a $6 smash burger special for dine-in. The atmosphere is casual, and you order at the counter and your food is ready shortly after.

Yelp
First time here after seeing all the reviews on Tic Toc! I grew up in this area and love the transformation of Dormont!! Moonlit Burgers is a fun, casual place with eclectic vibe and super friendly staff! The menu is simple and to the point and they offer everything a classic burger joint should have! There's a great bar (that even serves milkshakes) to go along with the small but fun dining room!! We had a double Bacon Double Cheese Burger($13) double patty, iceberg lettuce, tomato, sweet onion, garlic dijonnaise, martin's potato roll and Moon Bird Chicken Sandwich ($14) pickle brined chicken breast, smashville hot sauce, cabbage & jalapeno slaw, kosher dill pickles, signature moon sauce, martin's potato roll. Dormont is a great little area to walk around after a great dining experience at Moonlit Burgers!! Reminds me of Portland Oregon...

Yelp
We've been somewhat disappointed with the food in Pittsburgh, but this place turned things around. The service is very friendly and quick. The burgers are delicious and substantial. We definitely got full. The environment is relaxed and friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
I actually dream of Moonlit Burgers haha! Gosh, I love this place. The smash burgers are SO good - super thin with crispy edges. I love the Martin's potato roll bun. I love the moon sauce. I love the shoestring fries. One of my favorite places! To top it off, they have a full bar and serve Millie's ice cream (yes, you can get a boozy milkshake). They have gluten free options as well as vegetarian options! You order at a counter and then are given a table number where they deliver your food to you. Will always recommend this spot for a delish smash burger!
google avatar

Yelp
Moonlit truly never misses! By far the best smash burgers I have had in Pittsburgh. It is always executed perfectly with that amazing grill flavor. And don't even get me started on the soft, pillowy bun. You definitely have to eat the fries when they're hot and fresh since they're thin, but they're addicting so it's not a hard task! Moonlit always hits the spot, any time I'm craving a burger this is the only place to be. Truly can't recommend enough!

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE Moonlit Burgers. Pittsburgh, specifically the South Hills, really needed a place like this! I'm also happy that it's in a convenient spot for me. The place itself is small so if you go on a busy night, you will definitely wait but I feel like the wait isn't that bad because they get people in and out quickly enough. Each time I have been, the staff have all been really nice and made sure tables were cleared and that you got your food quickly. I've not had any milkshakes here, yet, but I can tell you the food is really delicious. The burgers are yummy, and in my opinion, the single is just the perfect burger. Everything they put on this burger from the pickles to the onions and sauce really compliment the meat itself. And the potato bun is so good! I can't also say enough about their fries. I'm not a shoestring fry type of girl but man I love theirs. They're salty and crispy just how fries should be. I also really enjoy the chicken tenders that are brined in pickle juice, makes the chicken even better. Will definitely keep coming here, it's such a stellar place to eat!

Yelp
Uber eats delivered the wrong order to my house, I called uber eats, they refused to resolve my issue. what they were asking me to do, was not working on the app. they were no help at all. so I drove to moonlit burgers, and Sam, the manager on duty, gave me a great discount on my order that I never received. Sam was so kind, so friendly, and so patient with me! I'm so appreciative of her efforts today. I never write reviews, but I had to for her. and the order came out extremely fast. which means she prioritized my order for me. Thank you again Sam!

Yelp
Had the double cheeseburger with onions, pickles, and their special sauce. A pretty solid smash burger that had a nice balance of all of the flavors. No ingredient overpowered another, which I liked. I'm personally not a shoe-string fry person, so they weren't my favorite, but I was happy to get them to share with the table. Probably the fastest service outside of a literal fast food joint! A cool spot especially on a nice day/night when you can sit outside. Parking can be tricky.

Yelp
Burgers were crispy edged and delicious, hot and cheesey. The service was decent. Our food finished quickly. It's a fun place to go on a casual date. They have a little bar inside with screens. Their boozy milkshakes are delicious. We will definitely be back!

Zach B.

Yelp
I'm genuinely confused why this is such a popular spot. The staff were very friendly and efficient (our food came out eerily fast, in about one minute), and the price was fairly cheap, but the food simply wasn't that good. The burgers didn't seem very seasoned, and their sauce made the taste actively bad. The fries were also fine, but I didn't feel an unhealthy impulse to eat them all (which is pretty rare for me and fries). If the three burgers they offer seem up your alley, perhaps this is the spot for you, but it doesn't seem worth the stress of a long line and scarfing down your food as fast as you can so you don't hold a table for too long.
google avatar

Matt L.

Yelp
Been here a few times. Great smash burgers. I don't love shoestring fries, but they're decent. No table service. You walk up and order, and they bring your food within a few minutes.
google avatar

Yelp
Well, all the reviews are true! This place is adorable with old time lunch trays on the wall and a counter where you can eat your burgers or milkshake. My boyfriend and I both got a classic double burger and a basket of fries. That was enough for both of us, and it only cost $25.00 for our date night! The burgers were juicy and delicious and had some kind of slightly spicy special sauce that just made them! The fries were the perfect level of crispy. Needless to say, there were no leftovers!
google avatar

Christina N.

Yelp
Our fave smash burgers! I get the same thing every time which is the smash fries & moonlit double! The fries alone can be a meal. I definitely advise getting a double burger. I wish the kids meal options were a little more cost effective (included fries drink etc.) there really didn't seem to be much of a difference in size between the kids burger and the regular burger. But over all we have been atleast 10 times and have 0 complaints!

Yelp
Having heard the hype of this new burger joint in town, I decided to stop by on the way home from work on a weeknight to see what it was all about. I ordered a burger, fries, and a milkshake. The restaurant was extremely crowded that evening and I had to wait a bit to pick up my order, which was to-go. It was certainly a lively environment inside, if not a bit chaotic. The shake was tasty, but not as special as the shakes I am accustomed to at Milkshake Factory. The burger was a "smashed" style which I normally appreciate. In this case, the burger was smashed so thin that it seemed a bit light on the meat. The fries paired well with the burger and shake, but did not stand out as particularly special. Overall, Moonlit is a welcome addition to the Pittsburgh burger scene, but not topping my list of favorite places for any of their signature items. I would consider stopping by again in the future only if it was convenient, but I won't be going out of my way for it.

Yelp
Great, quick service! Chicken tenders and fries were perfect. Great place to stop before a concert or sports game
google avatar

Jess N.

Yelp
Hands down one of the BEST smash burgers I've ever had. I also got the fries with cheese but did not get a photo because I was busy ugly eating with how GREAT everything was. I totally understand the hype now. They were great with the service as well. Quick and kind! Thank you so much! I understand the hype now!

Yelp
Delicious smash burgers, crispy shoe string fries, $5 happy hour, full bar, Millie's ice cream, what else do you need??? We went early on a Thursday evening and it wasn't busy at all. We walked right up to the counter to order and got our food super fast. The burgers are SO good. I want to try the chicken sandwich next, but don't wanna regret it! Ambiance is V casual but the place was super clean and the staff was very friendly. Moonlit Burgers is a solid 5 stars and we will def be back.

Michelle W.

Yelp
Love the food!! The burgers are great so glad they're on. DoorDash. I've ordered from the other location not realizing it wasn't the one in Dormont and that one was good as well.
google avatar

Julie Anna E.

Yelp
I adore Moonlit Burgers!! There's just something about a thin smashburger with crispy edges & fried onions on top- a regular patty cannot compete. Their fries tasted a lot like McDonald's which was amazing as those are universally everyone's favorite fries Love that they have alcohol, so you can enjoy a cold one with your smashburger. They also have Millie's ice cream, a Pittsburgh favorite. If you were new to town you could stop here, grab a delicious smashburger, a cold IC Light, and Millie's ice cream all in a one stop shop. You would already be on your way to being a yinzer!
google avatar

Jennifer F.

Yelp
Very casual spot, you order at the counter and then are given a number to place on your table. It is seat yourself, so make sure you give yourself enough time in case of busy hours. It does get crowded! Our burgers were classic smashburgers, yummy and as expected. No more, no less. I would come back given the opportunity but wouldn't go out of my way unless craving a burger that you know what you're getting. They also had alcoholic drinks you could order!
google avatar

Eddie W.

Yelp
great smash burgers. Fries are amazing. Even their soda is perfect. I love that they also serve ice cream and alcohol. The only complaint is the size is very small, it can be hard to find parking at times, and the waiting area is a little awkward.
google avatar

beth h.

Yelp
This is a solid place for smash burgers. You are seated at a table, but order at the counter and the food is delivered to your table FAST! I got the classic single moon burger - simple but delicious. My husband said the size seemed smaller than the ones served at the downtown location. The moon sauce (which is absolutely amazing!) has a little kick so if you can't handle any level of spice - you've been warned. The shoestring fries, while not my favorite variety, were good for what they were - crispy with just enough salt. For $4 the amount is enough to be shared between 2-3 people. The milk shakes can't be missed - topped with whipped cream and a cherry. They also offer beer and cocktails. My husband thought the selection of beer was a nice surprise. Prices are fair and the atmosphere is very lively. Even if you have to wait, the tables free up pretty quickly. We plan to come back, because I want to try a chicken sandwich next!

Yelp
Had wanted to get to Moonlit Burgers for a while. My party of three went on a Sunday at noon. Parking can be a challenge. The decor and ambiance of the Dormont location are stark. It's kind of like an airplane hanger. The menu is burger-focused and does have a few chicken options and salads--interesting combinations of the smash burger combined with fries, chili, and a queso dip. You can choose a single or double patty. The patties are thin, and a single left more bun than beef. We enjoyed the classic single patty (with special instructions), Bacon Double Cheeseburger ( the garlic dijonnaise was super garlicky.), and the Best Seller just the way advertised. All the burgers were tasty. I liked that metal forks and knives were available rather than plastic utensils. The shoestring fries are crisp, tasty, and nicely seasoned. The beer menu has something for most tastes. We will be back another time to check out more items on the menu and maybe even a milkshake.
google avatar

Morgan G.

Yelp
Moonlit has some of the best smash burgers around. I have tried some others around Pittsburgh and I don't think they stack up to Moonlit's quality and taste. The loaded fries are also really delicious. The service makes it easy to order your food first and find a place to sit.
google avatar

Jam I.

Yelp
Moonlit burgers has quickly topped my places that serve the best hamburgers. The patties are fresh and made to order condiments to your pleasing. The shoestring, french fries are incredible. The fact that I eat them without ketchup is significant in my world. If you're a burger connoisseur I highly recommend giving them a try..
google avatar

Rebecca M.

Yelp
What an awesome place! The vibe is "moonlit" there is even a bar. Our burgers and fries were great, and affordable. My veggie burger tasted almost too good.. definitely cooked on the same griddle as meat burgers. That didn't bother me, but it may bother some! Order at the counter, no table service.
google avatar

Nate S.

Yelp
Hello NATENation, Moonlit burgers did not disappoint after skimming the reviews I saw that this was a true SMASH burger establishment and that had my interest immediately peaked! So here I am order the classic double smash with fries and a side of tenders. Let's start with the tenders they were good but that all this is a burger joint now, you want tenders look for a raising canes because they are far superior and fast food! Now for the main attraction the smash burger and when they say smash they mean it! This puts the last smash burger review to shame because they actually smashed it! The potato bun the American cheese the double smash burger *mwah* the kiss of death delicious just what the doctor ordered. For the fries shoestring and did not lack salt and I mean did not lack at all my tongue is still tingling from those salty potatoes. To wash down the potatoes me lady wanted a milkshake so we got one, Oreo creame, it was the perfect size however me lady said it was quite sweet - dessert is not my area of expertise so I'll take her word for it! I needed to wash it down with those salty fries personally. Overal very good meal but man I digested it fast, writing this review from the restroom if you know what I mean! For any west/Midwest folks think of a moderate speed, sit down Freddy's! It's like Freddy's with atmosphere! 4/5 stars will return to this cute dormont spot!
google avatar

Nina B.

Yelp
Great quality ingredients. The menu was clearly marked for allergens and I was able to get a gluten free bun. We ordered via a delivery service so I am unable to comment on ambiance!

Yelp
I kept reading solid things about Moonlit, so when searching for a place to meet friends when I was back in town, I automatically went here. The Dormont location is conveniently located on their main street, and we had no issues finding street parking. The vibe is very casual, definitely like an upscale fast food restaurant. I loved the decor on the walls with various lunch trays - a super fun addition to the decor! The restaurant itself is decently sized, with a large bar and an ordering counter adjacent to the kitchen, plus ample seating. I'm uncertain when the separate bar is functioning (it wasn't open when we were there), but you can order / receive alcohol when ordering the rest of your food. We placed our orders at hte counter and found a spot to eat, not waiting too long before our meals were ready. My husband and I, as well as our friends, all went for local drafts on tap, which were solid and reasonably priced. I always love seeing local spots featured at restaurants! For eats, of course we focused on burgers. I got the Classic Moonlit Double, which featured their signature smash burger patties, griddled onions, cheese, and their homemade sauce, all enclosed in a potato bun. The beef was cooked appropriately, and I loved the sauce as a pairing! Potato buns hit different, so I loved that that was the vehicle of choice. I almost never would get a "double", but the patties are so thin that you have to get 2 to really optimize the flavor. Not venturing out for burgers often, I was super pleased with my choice and I thoroughly enjoyed the burger! My husband went for the bacon cheeseburger, having similar thoughts himself about his burger. We split an order of fries, which was plenty for us both. The shoestrings were perfectly fried and salted, nicely pairing with our burgers. Our friends enjoyed their meal too, getting very similar items as us. We stayed for a while to eat and catch up, and I really appreciated that no one tried to rush us out. Moonlit was a perfect spot to meet up with friends over a casual meal, and the burgers are definitely up there as the best in Pittsburgh. I would definitely visit Moonlit again to try more menu items and to get a milkshake with Millie's Ice Cream. Thanks for a great meal, Moonlit!

Steve B.

Yelp
Really good bacon burger and fries. Would be a good place to bring the kiddos. Great location in Dormont.
google avatar

Vinny A.

Yelp
Great little burger joint in Dormont! Cool vibe, cozy bar, and friendly employees makes this a nice stop with counter service to handle any burger-craving and satisfy your thirst for a beer or a simple cocktail. While they are a smash burger restaurant, so you have to be "in" to those, they do offer a fried chicken sandwich and some tenders for those "little ones" if that's their go-to. But for me, it was the fries...shoestring, salty, and delicious - you can get them as smash fries as well (which I would recommend, if you're with a group). Overall...I'll be back as this place left me craving another burger; though plan accordingly as this place was constantly moving folks in and out and was definitely a preferred stop for others in the area, too.

Yelp
Finally was able to try Moonlit Burgers. Have been following them on Instagram for a year and finally made it. The restaurant is so cool inside. We loved our burgers. I loved my Moonlit Cheeseburger with special sauce. It was so good. My husband liked his plain burger too. They were juicy and flavorful. The fries were good but way too salty. A kid had a milkshake and it looked delicious. Next time, we want to try them.
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of our family's favorites. The smash burgers are so good! The ambiance of the restaurant is great.

Yelp
That was the best burger I've had on this side of the Mississippi I got the classic double and chilli cheese fries . Fantastic !

Yelp
Hand down my favorite burger and my favorite place to go. I guess I haven't reviewed until now because I'm always too busy I Hali g their deliciousness.
google avatar

Yelp
Love their burgers and match stick fries!!! It reminds me of more home style burger and the add pickles too.
google avatar

Suzan H.

Yelp
I really like Moonlit. I like the concept, the people, the size, and mostly the food. We always get cheeseburgers, fries and salad. This last time we got the salads, it seemed like the dressing changed. It was not as awesome as I remember. Also, and it may have been me...but, I thought the burger was super salty. May have been the sauce, may have been my Saturday afternoon taste buds, but, it just seemed a bit off. Will certainly be back, but hope this was a one-off.
google avatar

Yelp
Moonlit Burger is a cute retro-vibe restaurant in Dormont's Potomac shopping area. You order at the counter, grab a drink at the bar and has both indoor and outdoor seating. Quick service. Straightforward menu. The smash burgers were crispy and the cheese was gooey. Thursday dinner the place filled up. Recommend getting there early.
google avatar

Miranda S.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come to this place for a long time & it did not disappoint! The smash burger is superior to a traditional burger! We sat at the bar and you can order food there as well! They have lots of local drinks including local seltzers. Next time I will see if they have lettuce and tomatoes just to add a little more freshness to the rich taste of the patty and moon sauce!
google avatar

Christine M.

Yelp
Hi we were there the night of iron maiden concert so it was VERY busy and the service was excellent. Great music playing for us old folks lol. Very fast, efficient and delicious! Excellent safe gluten free choices. I wanna go back! Thank you!
google avatar

Valerie W.

Yelp
I normally do not eat beef but I will eat a burger at Moonlit Burgers. I like the smashed burgers because they are so thin and the French fries are always good. We usually try to go shortly after they open because it isn't a large space and they do get busy. The service is good and we get our food quickly. I like that they bring it to the table and that they clean up the tables when we are finished eating.
google avatar

Grace K.

Yelp
Slayin burgers!! They also offer an impossible burger. You should definitely get a double patty. Love the shoe string fries. I wish they had a few more beer options. Good spot for a fun night with friends.

Rachel A.

Yelp
My first time in and was pleasantly surprised with the use of space. Burgers are so freaking good!!! Job well done. Great Blood orange mule and service!

Yelp
So cute inside - love the decor - staff was very friendly and the food - soooo good! Plus there is a bar! I got the bourbon punch which I was a big fan of. My hubby does not eat beef so was very happy they had a chicken option as well as a vegan burger! He has had both and now this is a burger place he will happily agree to accompany me to. I love this addition to Dormont and hope they stick around for a very long time!
