Houston’s Best Drive-In Movie Theaters for Dinner and a Movie | Eater Houston

"Billed as Houston’s first permanent drive-in, this riverside venue is part of a new East River development and is run in partnership with outdoor cinema operators; it programs current, anticipated releases (recent examples include In The Heights and A Quiet Place 2) with schedules updated regularly. Food is provided by rotating food trucks on weekends and concessions plus beer and wine are available through a nearby bar, while outside food and drink are prohibited. Admission is charged per car (currently about $25 per car), so plan for group seating by vehicle." - Brittanie Shey

Moonstruck Drive-In was a pleasant experience! I love drive-ins, and this one didn’t disappoint. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the staff was helpful—especially the young lady who kindly helped us figure out how to turn off our automatic headlights.

Just went with our 3.5 year old for the wicked double feature last night. Here's the positives: -its right off navigation so there are plenty of places to eat before the movie. We personally chose roostar. - there wasn't any light obstruction during the movie. There was one noise incident but also it's the middle of the city...to be expected and it lasted two minutes. -the sound was great in the car. -its a great family movie night. Our daughter watched wicked and then slept during the second movie. It allowed the hubby and I to catch a movie opening weekend without getting a sitter. -they had a food truck in addition to their concessions and the popcorn was great. Okay the cons are really bad: -The restrooms. They are port-a-potties and they are disgusting. When we used to go at the other location they had nice portable restroom trailers. If they could bring those back and that meant it would cost extra 10 dollars per car, I'd be fine with that cost. This was a complete downgrade and I wonder if I'd ever come back off the restrooms alone. (Especially with a kid....the lights didn't work in the port-a-potties.) Also the washing station was broke. - They need a parking attendant. The ground is lumpy and uneven AND a lot of people really don't know how to drive their trucks and SUVs and struggled to park. A few near swipes/bumps happened in the lot last night and some folks helped others park. It's worth the investment to hire someone to guide folks in.

It was a great drive in theater. The movie was easy to see, the staff made sure everyone was comfortable and happy before the movie started, the concessions stand was well stocked. There weren't any food trucks there tonight.

I stopped coming here for a while because the light pollution used to be pretty bad, but the new location is so much better! I’ll definitely be coming back. This is a great drive-in movie theater—highly recommend!

A great concept to revive the American drive-in culture. I couldn't tell if it is open because I drove by during the daytime. They've built screens with shipping containers! Probably an entrepreneur with a great idea and a practical budget. But with drive-ins, the fun begins with the setting sun.

We had so much fun with my family watching Superman. The movie sound was over the radio and we were able to be as loud as we wanted because we were in our own space (we have a toddler so typically hard for us to go to regular movies) we brought food from home and ended up getting a bag of popcorn which was very large but still a bit overpriced IMO. Nonetheless love a good drive in movie.

Edit 2025: A great activity for anyone in downtown Houston. It’s safe, quiet, and the vibe is great overall. Mostly families / couples were there. From 2021: Went to go watch the latest Spiderman movie. The skyline view was great. Would only go here again if view times change to after sunset as it can be difficult to view the screen during sunset.

This place is so cool. I had a wonderful experience with the crew I came with. There are multiple screens were they show different movies. We saw the beast movie. The restrooms are outdoor restroom stalls but they are very clean. You have to turn your car to a radio station to hear the audio of the movie. There is also a beautiful view of the Houston skyline. There is plenty of parking and people get really comfortable. I will be back.
