How a Bike Crash Forced Eater’s Critic to Grapple With Dining in a Wheelchair - Eater NY

"A branch of a well known chain, it is located at a bustling corridor crossroads, and boasts plenty of booth seating and the usual beguiling display of pies and cakes. A breakfast that included juice, coffee with refills, two eggs, excellent hash browns, and bacon, sausage, or ham set me back $8.25, which is a good deal even by contemporary diner standards." - Robert Sietsema

Best hot chocolate and pie in NYC hands down. High quality, exceptional service and much lower prices than the inferior tourist or franchised venues. I even got a free music show. If you're going to RI make sure you pop in.

If I could give this place zero stars then I would. I’ve been a very long time customer for over 8 years. I’ve supported this restaurant through the pandemic. Today I went in for lunch and it being a holiday (July 4th) it wasn’t busy. I ordered Salmon sautéed in olive oil and garlic only cooked “medium rare” and no salt and no pepper along with sautéed spinach in olive oil and garlic only. I was very clear with both the owner when I walked in and the waiter who submitted my order to the kitchen. I also explained that I’m on a strict diet as I just had a poor report from my physician. The salmon came out well done with no garlic and a ton of salt and pepper on it when I indicated no salt or pepper. When I brought this to owner’s attention, he was very rude telling me that the waiter should’ve told the cook directly. Obviously this was not my fault as again I indicated my special requests twice when ordering. The owner then proceeded to tell me that it’s very expensive and he will not correct it and make me a new entree. He the told me to go elsewhere and leave. This is no way to treat a customer or even another human being for that sake. The fact that they cannot follow simple directions and own up to correcting their mistake is unacceptable. The owner is ungrateful and his food is subpar. There are plenty of other diners in the area with much better tasting and higher quality food. Also, their portions are small. Do yourself a favor and save yourself the hassle and go elsewhere to dine.

Made a reservation online via Google assistant and did not have to wait on a Saturday at 11. Their coffee was just okay but their service was attentive to get our orders and food came decently fast. My sister did not enjoy the chicken soup bc it tasted really sour/tasted off and stopped eating it 2 bites in. I ordered the breakfast wrap which did not have much flavor! I ordered the fries well done and they had three perfect crunch and saltiness! My friends really enjoyed their breakfast sandwiches!

Google
Amazing place, super nice and friendly staff, and they are very accommodating with substitutions. 10/10 would recommend. Only downside is that the food could be cheaper, but everything is more expensive in midtown so it’s not really a surprise.

Google
This is a cute little diner with interesting decor. The food was great, I loved the steak and eggs I ordered and my friend loved the eggs and avocado toast plate he ordered. Service was decent, though it took a while to get our check. The reason I did not give it 5 stars is because of the lack of cleanliness, they must not have properly cleaned the tables before seating because I got syrup on me when we first sat down. Overall, though, it was a positive experience.

Google
I have been coming here for years until today - there is usually only one waiter so when it gets busy (12-230pm) it gets tough to be in & out on time. I’ve had a lot of different options off the menu from breakfast-lunch-dinner and I always enjoyed the soup until I had what looked like a fruit fly in my bowl today. I wouldn’t have mentioned it if my next order wasn’t messed up as well. I am allergic to tomatoes so I specifically asked for a Buffalo Chicken sandwich with NO TOMATOES - I read on the menu it comes with that so I’m not sure why people in the food industry wouldn’t take people’s allergies serious enough. I did not have enough time to wait for another dish (I knew after the fly incident what to expect) so I had to pick apart my sandwich and only eat the chicken that hopefully had not touched the tomatoes. $22 for this was not worth it. & sad to say I will not be visiting this place again.

Its my second time to be in this small diner. At first i had a chocolate cake and now i had a cheesecake. The place is close to my workplace and whenever i get a sudden cake cravings this is my quickest go to near by place

Google
Nice diner-like eatery, we called in for dessert after seeing the pies through the window, Pecan Pie a la mode was delicious. 18% service charge is automatically added to the bill

Yelp
I got an allergic reaction here after asking about the dish having nuts. Outside of that the cinnamon French toast French toast was pretty good

Dina L.

Yelp
Very good food and service. Breakfast, lunch, baked goods. Attentive to refilling coffee and water.

Yelp
Good food, fast and friendly service, left super satisfied. I split a chicken Caesar salad wrap with a side of fries and as soon as you order I saw the fries drop in the oil on my way to the bathroom. The wrap was packed with chicken that was hot juicy and fresh! The fries were also the good thick cut fries which I loved. Everything came out hot. Will definitely come back whenever I head over to Bloomingdales.

Yelp
Rather disappointing diner with burgers not exactly cooked as requested ! We stopped by here for a quick bite last night. I ordered a Wyoming burger (barbeque chees and bacon) and my friend a traditional cheeseburger. We asked for medium well and medium rare. Neither was cooked the way we liked it. The restaurant itself is a traditional diner without counter seating. However, it was not a great experience eating there, and I am not sure if I will ever return.

Yelp
THE AUDACITY to charge $2 for a bagel and another $2 for toasting and cream cheese .. I DIDN'T EVEN GET $2 WORTH OF CREAM CHEESE!! I've had better food in a corner deli.

David L.

Yelp
Yesterday I had lunch at the Moonstruck eatery. I began with matzo ball soup, which was nothing to rave about. The salmon salad was hardly edible. The salmon was just OK. The salad greens were roquette, my favorite, and always a good choice. However, they were waterlogged and wilted, and tasted as if the prep line never dried them, or even bothered to discard the ones that should not to be served in a $24 salad. Of course, tomatoes are not in season, so not much to say about that, except cherry tomatoes would have been a better choice. The red onion was cut much too wide for a salad. I would not recommend those salads.

Yelp
The cashier needs re-education on good customer service. I do not recommend.Rude! Go some place else.

Yelp
The worst breakfast I had in New York for the money!not even the rye bread was any good

Mike L.

Yelp
Had a good old fashioned hamburger fries and a coke. Service was fast and friendly, burger was great with all the trimmings, pickle and coleslaw too. Person at the front counter who waited on me was terrific and made sure I had everything I need. I think I might've gained a pound after the cheesecake and coffee. Will definitely stop in again when in midtown.
google avatar

Yelp
A very solid homestyle breakfast spot. Portions were large and the coffee was hot and bottomless. What more can you ask for?
google avatar

Wesleyan T.

Yelp
Ehhh. I walked in, no hello. The server/host asked "you want something to go right" and I should've taken that as a sign and left. But it's midtown and it was one of the few places allowing indoor dining with decent prices. I ordered the avocado toast. The bread wasn't toasted so the liquid from the avocado and garnished tomatoes caused the bread to become soggy. Soggy bread is the worst. I couldn't finish the other half. Wasnt offered water although surrounding tables were. I had to ask for it. The eggs and bacon were prepared to my liking. That's why there are two stars. Overall I was uncomfortable snd the service and expected warm welcome was lackluster Would not return.

Yelp
Before heading into this place, my partner and I were looking at the menu outside when a passerby informed us that they had the best cheesecake in the city. We gave it a try and it was a really good cheesecake. My partner had their cherry pie which is probably what will bring me back here in the future. Nice staff too.

Yelp
Its fine. I will say we witnessed ( someone who appears to be the new) owner berating the server. Not cool. The woman who's worked breakfast/lunch for sometime is lovely. The place is fine. Though it often seems a bit discombobulated.

Yelp
Following our runner around during the New York Marathon was exhausting, and we needed food! We saw this place, as we were looking, another person walked out and said the food was good. All we needed! We seated ourselves, told our waiter we didn't have a long time, and we were off to the best surprise of the whole day. Our waiter was friendly, very funny, and quite efficient. The food was amazing! Everything was fresh, the fries were hot, and we loved it. What a fabulous surprise! The owner was pleased when we thanked him, and said our server had been with him for 27 years. What a team.

Yelp

Yelp
Went on a whim in the morning with my girlfriend for breakfast. We got the French toast and the two egg platter with toast, home fries, bacon and sausage. Food was great. The home fries were excellent. Service was also superb. Also, we got a key lime pie slice on the way out, which was exquisite. We will definitely be coming back.

I wish I can give this place no stars. I order the chicken quesadilla ugggg no flavor and disgusting. I can't with this place

Yelp
Cute and cozy diner, great service, traditional diner food. Good portions, but a little pricey for what it is.

Excellent food and delicious coffee. Service was friendly and fast. Portions were also quite large and reasonably priced. We will be back.

Yelp
This is what eating a quick lunch today in New York used today be and still should be. Fast service, no bullshit, good food, fair prices and a charm all it's own. We had a view of the Queens Mid Town Tunnel. I had a chicken salad sandwich on white toast. My wife had Matzoh ball soup with a baked potato. It was all perfect.
google avatar

Yelp
It's a good dinner. Had a blt and a chicken wrap. It's a good place to grab a bite menu is good and the place is clean. It gets busy but it moves. I would eat here again def.

Yelp
Since we'd only eaten pastries for breakfast, and had just walked across Central Park, I was craving a full breakfast, even though it was mid-afternoon. AND!!! Moonstruck Diner serves beer & wine! Inside was quiet, with only a few other diners. I ordered an omelet, which was quite large & well-packed with ingredients. And I enjoyed a bottle of Bud Light with my meal! I wasn't impressed with the potatoes & didn't eat much of them. My friend ordered a bagel with lox & cream cheese, which she said was very good. She had a glass of chardonnay with her meal, which she immediately felt so I got to finish it! Service was OK... our first server was not very attentive. But apparently his shift was ending soon, before we'd finished eating; our second server was much friendlier. We loved the diner-esque decor at Moonstruck Diner, & enjoyed eating here.

Yelp
I like it a lot. Yum. Been here twice, once dined in and other time I picked up. A bit pricey but it's definitely the area. The grilled chicken is not dry and is seasoned well. It's actually pretty juicy. The sweet potato fries are delicious ! Fries to crispy perfection oh my. The only thing is that they weren't consistent in shape. Check out my pictures. First time I got them they were nice and thick. Second time they were all skinny. I mean doesn't matter to me because both times they were so crunchy butttt the thick ones are my preference. Oh wells, this is deff the spot I would go to for lunch again if I'm in town. I have to try their regular fries, can't imagine how crispy those are too. **Drooling

Yelp
It's the cutest place. I'm going to come here more often. Pretty decor. Fancy mugs. Service is prompt. And window tables :) This was a short visit for some pie and coffee. Will come back and click lots of pictures

Yelp
Very friendly, very casual diner. Came here for breakfast and was helped by a kind man who assured us all of the ingredients were fresh! I had a delicious cappuccino and a huge omelet with potatoes (so good I took half home) and my boyfriend had pancakes which he enjoyed. The inside is clean and the service is very fast. Great spot!

Yelp
Horrible service and horrible food. I ordered from Delivery.com to be delivered to me at work. i ordered Cheese Ravioli with Mozzarella Sticks, The raviolis were so soggy taste like soup noodles and the Mozzarella Sticks were so cold the cheese was hard. This was a 40 dollar lunch, when i called to complain I was told others ordered my same menu item and there was no complaints. Then i was told to call back and he will send me something else another day. So i called back today to have someone tell me they don't remember sending my order last Thursday and that he was to busy to send me something else. When I said I was going to make a complaint the person said complain or don't complain I don't care. This is how they treat their costumers and how they talk to people. I will never order from this place ever again ! Horrible costumer service and horrible food.
google avatar

Melissa P.

Yelp
THE best grilled cheesee, but horrible mozzarella sticks. The grilled cheese has the perfect amount of butter and the white bread that they use is very thick. However, the mozzarella sticks almost taste like the ones you buy frozen in the grocery store and then bake them in the oven (rather than frying them). They also used to have the best fries but unfortunately they got rid of them. If you come here or order delivery, I only recommend the grilled cheese.

Yelp
I've eaten at other Moonstruck locations. They are peaceful to me. At this location they have live fish in tanks along the back wall. Very beautiful decor. The space is small but we had a window seat that was very comfortable. We arrived between 11:30AM and 12 PM. Very few empty tables left by then. Service started out fine. We both ordered brunch. I passed on the Mimosa or O.J. due to allergies. My daughter didn't want mine. My Sweet Potato Fries were $2.00 extra. They could have left off the extra charge since I couldn't have the drink. I should have brought that to the waiters attention. After all I passed on the mixed drink. I just had coffee. Coffee Service is my only service complaint. I tried to get a warm-up by trying to get someone's attention. No one returned until we were done. THEN he asked if I wanted more coffee! By that time I already finished my daughter's cold coffee. It was really good coffee I must say. Five Stars on the food. Considering we were not asked how we wanted our burgers cooked, they were both perfect. We had the Brunch Breakfast Burgers that include bacon, fried egg and American Cheese. Mine was on a soft bun. My daughter ordered her Burger on toast. I was glad I had the soft bun because it was fresh and delicious. The potatoes were a generous portion. I finally found Sweet Potato Fries that were tasty. I added a little salt. When we left my plate was clean! No room for desert. My daughter took home half of her meal for a second meal. That's her SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) these days. Our brunch was pricy for our typical Saturday lunch. $25.00 each approximately including tax and Tip. We decided we enjoyed this brunch so much we would return next trip to this neighborhood. I want to try the Waffles and Chicken. My daughter said she'd try an Omelette next time. A little more attention to coffee refill and I might give them five stars. With the exception of coffee refills service was timely and friendly. I highly recommend if you please save me a seat! It's not a big place!

Yelp
TASTELESS.....I came here for lunch with my partner in the mood for a burger. We were seated right away and ordered soon after. I got the patty melt and he the Wisconsin burger. Service was very slow/ non existent after that. They weren't really busy but our waiter didn't check on us and the food took 30 min to come out. For a workday lunch this is too much time. Once the food arrived it looked good but had no flavor! The meat lacked any seasoning. It is over priced and not worth the wait.... will not be returning.

Yelp
The chocolate chip banana pancakes were out of this world. I will definitely come back for those.

Yelp
Ordered delivery. Missing two items. No napkins or utensils. Food was pretty lousy. Called they told me too bad. Skip this place.

Yelp
I'm not sure why this place doesn't have better ratings. I stopped in on my way to grab some groceries and I really enjoyed the experience. I popped in for lunch around 1pm on a Friday. Wasn't too busy and I was seated immediately. The menu has a good variety of lunch and brunch options and for midtown NYC everything seemed pretty reasonably priced. I ordered Souvlaki Chicken and it was delicious. The chicken was grilled perfectly and had nice flavor. The dish came with a side Greek salad and fries (I upgraded to sweet potato fries and they were amazing!). The side salad was fresh and they used spring mix which I always prefer to romaine. The service was nice as well. The restaurant seemed well staffed and everyone was very kind and welcoming. Overall I had a great experience here and I would definitely return.
google avatar

Jocelyn R.

Yelp
Stopped here for late breakfast with my boyfriend today. The staff was not that friendly. There was no warm welcome or even a smile from any of the waiters. We were seated quickly and then taken our order as soon as we were ready. The food was pretty good. I had the Nutella s'mores waffle with eggs and ham and my boyfriend has the banana chocolate chip pancakes with eggs and sausage. The waffle was a little dry but tasty and was bigger than I thought it would be. My boyfriend enjoyed his pancakes as well. Overall it was a good meal and I would come come back.

Perez Y.

Yelp
Came here to just to eat some late breakfast we were able to sit right away and we were served fast the food came out in a decent time. I ordered the pancakes and they were good I would definitely recommend!!

Yelp
This was one of the worst breakfast service I've gotten in years! And I mean years... Walking past one early morning and wanted some breakfast... place looked clean and nice ambiance. Went in and asked the waiter... "Ramon" about the breakfast wrap which was written on the menu as "scrambled eggs, onions, peppers and cheese" in a wrap, with a order of hash browns on the side. It was literal mush with no taste and the hash browns were burnt to a char. I kindly called Ramon over to change my hash brown and he told me that's how they come if I didn't want it over done I should have said. I further told him kindly to replace it with one that's less charred. He brought back my dish and told me they only scraped the char off and that's how they do it here and walked away. Wow!!! Upon trying the wrap it wasn't tasty and it didn't even seem like eggs were in the wrap, or better yet it didn't look appealing. Nicely again I called Tamin to change the dish because I couldn't eat it, it just wasn't tasty to me. His response was "If you didn't want it why would you order it? That is how it comes and that's what you are going to get!" I honestly kept my composure and said can I get the menu to order something else please because I'm not going to argue over food or eat something that's not appealing or to my liking. He further went on to repeat that it's what I ordered and don't get something from menu that I don't want and then complain along with other things that I ignored because I just wanted to leave. Like seriously... how was I to know it wasn't going to look like a wrap or even taste like what was supposed to be in it. So I just asked for my bill and he gave it to me. Took off the wrap and I paid for my hot chocolate and left. Wasn't the best service and I'm not bashing the restaurant, but as far as the service I received I will not be going back ever! Worst service Ramon. Don't treat your customers so crappy over food that they are to consume. P.S I am an upcoming food blogger and trust me... in the future if I come back here and he's (Ramon) still giving shitty service you'll get the write up of a lifetime. I didn't get to take a pic of the burnt hash browns. Only thought of it after they scraped the burnt off and not a fresh serving. I have 2 stars only because the restaurant looked clean and cozy for breakfast dining. Everything else for me was a no! Service and food wasn't great at all.

Yelp
This place is awful. I forced my wife to try it since we live nearby and I probably won't hear the end of it now since it was my idea. Hospitality was lacking to say the least. I bit into the bacon and it was barely room temp. The eggs and the potatoes were both barely warm which made me question if this place even had gas.The breakfast potatoes were just shredded potatoes and were the most bland potatoes I ever tasted. I would only go back to this place if it was to bring them some seasoning and a thermometer to get their food up to temp.

Yelp
I stoped by for lunch with my friends, after visiting a hair place on 222 east 58th because workers at Armen's Barbershop recommended moonstruck What can i say Nice place Food is amazing Waiters is helpful and very professional Food is delicious and prices are reasonable Definitely coming back.

Yelp
"Standard Diner" I have visited this diner quite a few times and the service during the AM hours has been hit or mis. Like most nyc diners, the menu is full of various dishes - egg platers burgers, gyros, salads, surf and turf, desserts, etc. I will say that the French fries are fried perfectly. Also, the portions are very large. You could probably feed a small country with the amount of home-fries you get with the breakfast platters. The one this that kind of annoys me with this place is that it charges you for a soda if you get a seltzer water. I mean it is just carbonated water!!!! Other than that the place is fine and perfect if you do not know what you want to eat because EVERYTHING is served at this establishment.
google avatar

Canny F.

Yelp
I ordered the grilled mixed veggies on garlic bread and it was nothing special. This is something I could whip up in a few minutes. The veggie wrap was okay, there was no sauce to it and I'm not a fan of dry sandwiches. Of course the mushrooms gave it a little moisture but it wasn't enough.

Yelp
i had the worst steak& eggs !!!!! the steak was not good and it was like eating gum!!!! the wheat toast was hard...... my first $ last time ever going there!!!!!

Yelp
How dare you moonstruck eatery! You lured me in from the street with your beautiful multicolor outdoor lighting. Only to serve a bland and disappointing eggs Benedict. I ordered their classic eggs Benedict for takeout. When I arrived home, I opened the food container only to reveal burned English muffins, and a sad potato hash (not home fries/herb roasted potatoes as described on the menu, and by the person who took my order). Most egregious of all, was the missing toast that came with the $15.00 plus tax eggs Benedict. The textbook creaminess of the egg yolks, was completely opaqued by the bitterness from the burned English muffins, and tasteless Hollandaise sauce. The potato hash was a sad mess of overall blandness and undercooked potatoes. I'm so disappointed, as Moonstruck Eatery is a stone's throw away from my home and I would have loved to be a frequent customer. Tips: eat somewhere else.

Yelp
I was craving for some eggs and pancakes and for sure I had sone of the best breakfasts in a long time. I recommend this place to eat

Yelp
Oh my God, Moonstruck Eatery was actually terrific. Extremely pleasant, clean, and beyond friendly. 2 Eggs that I have ordered was absolutely incredible, it had so much flavor and was absolutely delicious. The servers are pretty pleasant and polite. Yes, Moonstruck Eatery actually care that you are happy.

Yelp
See last paragraph for 3star rating Came here for the first time on a friday evening. This place has the typical diner atmosphere and their dishes really embody that as well. I ordered a salad with grilled chicken and my +1 ordered onion rings and a fruiter salad with crispy chicken. The entrees at this diner are in the $10-25 range but it's justified by their generous portions. I was impressed by the sheer size of our orders but the chicken in my salad was a tad rubbery and the other salad was overdressed. Also should mention that I asked for no olives and bacon (sorry bacon lovers /sadface) but got them anyways. It's okay, I just fished them out. Probably an honest mistake. Their onion rings were extra crispy but a tad overfried (real brown) but overall pretty good. I enjoyed this place though it could really be better.

Yelp
Honestly, have been loving their delivery. ESPECIALLY their desert. Banana cream and apple pie, cheesecake with a la mode has become an addiction for us during quarantine. They also have great burgers! A bit pricey but is a great quick fix craving kind of place.

Yelp
So I stopped into here the other day for their brunch. The place was smaller than we expected, which was fine, and the decor was a colorful industrial style. A very causal environment, very typical to what you would expect in a diner. So it was $14.95 for the brunch special which included: 1. Fruit salad 2. Coffee 3. Juice (or mimosa for $1 more) 4. Entree 5. Eggs (whatever style you like) 6. Meat (I.e bacon, sausage, etc.) It was great for the price. The good was alright. I had the Belgian waffle and bacon. The service was nice, it wasn't very busy when we arrived so we didn't have to wait at all and the server came over immediately. The food and out really quickly and the servers were just a few feet away and more than happy to help out I. Any way they could. There is nothing that truly makes this place stand out. But I do give it four stars for it's awesome service and prices considering the area.
