The Best New Bars in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"Though Luna and the Bear has been open since July of 2023, its sibling bar relaunched as a gin bar called Moonwater at the tail end of 2024. While Moonwater has the mix-and-match gin and jam pairings that initially popularized its parent restaurant, the bar has an expanded menu with 50 gins and cocktails. Try a Negroni flight, sip gins from around the globe, and don’t skip the monthly rotating special cocktail crafted for each full moon." - Natalia Mendez

12 Notable Twin Cities Restaurant and Bar Openings in October | Eater Twin Cities

"Open as of October 3 in the snug side-room of Eat Street restaurant Luna & the Bear, Moonwater Gin Lounge is stocked with an entire gin library that spans citrusy Spanish pours to India dry gins infused with black tea, and I found it a focused spot for gin exploration." - Justine Jones

According to the bartender, all gin martinis are made with a pimento olive AND a twist—regardless of gin or style. If that doesn’t tell you what you need to know already for a GIN BAR, read on. Of the five of us, we all got about two drinks apiece. We asked for suggestions, but none of the servers knew the gins or cocktails well enough to make suggestions—again, still a gin bar here. The bartender came over later but seemed overwhelmed, and gave vague suggestions. I am honestly not sure if he had ever actually bartended before—not an insult, just didn’t seem to know much about cocktails or gin. Of the drinks we did end up ordering, several drinks were made without the primary ingredient because they were out—but brought to the table anyways? Like an umeshu cocktail… made without umeshu. Martinis were not double strained and had ice chunks floating in them—which is fine for a $10 cocktail, not for a $22 martini. Some drinks were warm, some crazy sweet. When it came for the bill, the bartender came over and said he didn’t write any of our order down and was trying to remember what we ordered—we went through three versions of the check. This review is hard to write because I SO wanted to like this place—I love gin. I am practically gas-lighting myself writing this out of disbelief. But the drinks are expensive, poorly crafted, and no one seems to know what they are doing—nor do they care about gin!

All your gin cocktail dreams have come true. Pip Hanson cocktail menu. 50 gins. You can change out the selected gin in any cocktail for any of those other gins. Nearly 1000 cocktails. 🫠 Stellar.

This is the best Gin bar in Minneapolis. There are about 50 gins on the menu with a great house cocktail menu.

My partner and I were here tonight and were super excited to be there (our first time) so the experience we had really disappointed us. We were sat at the bar. My partner stated that he was feeling adventurous, wanted something spirit forward, and ordered a drink (The Moonwater) per the bartender’s recommendation. He not care for the drink at all as he wanted something more spirit forward and the drink was not (I tasted it too). He politely sent the drink back and the bartender (while still making him a new drink) proceeded to say twice (in an unkind, sarcastic way to the point where I almost confronted them) “not so adventurous after all are we?” My partner ordered the first drink in good faith, so I thought this was rude and uncalled for. His second drink and my first drink were fantastic, so the drinks are very good but the service left something to be desired and this was really disheartening.

Finally, a place respecting the art of a delicious gin beverage! Offering a mesmerizing selection of gins and a creative delivery of flavors and botanicals, Moonwater respects the art of making a great, craft cocktail. I even enjoyed the little touches on the gin menu that showed what glassware the drink would be served in! A great gin menu, friendly staff, and access to Luna and the Bear's food menu make Moonwater the place for an enjoyable night out!

Such a quaint space! Attached to a fabulously cozy and delightfully aesthetic, existing restaurant, Luna and the Bear, this new addition is a joy to anyone who fancies craft bevvies and classy libations within a mostly foodies world. Showcasing a gin library of impressive caliber and curated cocktails from a highly talented, innovative Minneapolis bartender- you are in for a treat. Come lounge and sip on any of their mouthwatering offerings, and enjoy a richly comfortable atmosphere and find yourself over the moon with flavor and ease.

While the food and drinks were delicious, they deceptively charge extra for ice without noting it anywhere. The menu shows a gin for $10 but then on the bill it was $20. Our server told us there is a charge for ice as well as a “lounge” charge. Will probably not be back because of this as it’s an illegal tactic to squeeze more money out of people.

Newly separately branded part of Luna & the Bear with an expanded cocktail menu focusing on gin. Still the same great food. Wonderful ambiance.

Yelp
We were in the area and decided to stop by for a cocktail. This hidden bar is located inside Luna and the Bear. There's a black curtain that's across from the bathroom, however when I was there the curtains were already pulled to the side. Nice room, they serve food from Luna and the bear. It is a gin bar, all the cocktails have gin. Big cocktail menu with many options, my server has alot of knowledge about the cocktails and gave us recommendations. The drinks are strong too.
