Best hot chicken in Tennessee hands down. I got the X-Hot tenders they were freshly made, seasoned to perfection, juicy and lightly crispy. The fries were seasoned with paprika and brown sugar I believe. And the fried okra was hot and juicy. If you’re ever around Hendersonville I would highly recommend this place.

Step into this clean, welcoming small business and get ready for some truly authentic down-home cooking. The fried chicken is light, crispy, and cooked just the way you like it—whether you want it mild or with a spicy kick. This was our first visit, and Mr. Moore was a fantastic host—warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The chicken and fried okra were incredible—some of the best I’ve had since moving here a few years ago. We’ll definitely be back. Thank you, Mr. Moore—we truly enjoyed our meal!

Really excellent hot chicken! We got a leg & butterfly shrimp, which came with hush puppies. Both were delicious! We opted for hot, which was plenty spicy & we like spicy food. Fried okra & coleslaw were also fantastic. Highly recommended!!!

I love fried chicken. I moved to Nashville with high expectations because of the reputation it has for fried chicken. Until this place, I’ve been kinda underwhelmed. There were good fried chicken restaurants, but i wanted LEGENDARY fried chicken. Flaky crispy coating with juicy tender meat. This restaurant is one man in a kitchen, with a “take it or leave it” attitude. Dave, the owner is a guy who puts up with no nonsense, is straight forward and has spent 14 years in one location because of passion for making his food. After trying all the fried chicken joints in the area, I’m comfortable saying that this was my favorite in the region. I will definitely be back. Notes: Call ahead. They do not cook Anything until it’s been ordered. Everything is fresh. Even the mild was fairly hot. I like spicy food so it was fine for me, but for those scared of spicy food, talk to the owner and get a solid recommendation.

I'm extremely confident this is absolutely the best hot chicken in town. I've tried numerous places, including the "big two." The hot chicken was perfectly cooked. Juicy on the inside and crispy breading that didn't get soggy or burnt. The hot seasoning is just perfect. Everything is made fresh and to order. Meaning, you should probably call ahead or expect a wait. It seems a lot of reviews misconstrue the owners straightforward attitude with being rude. I took everything as it was. He was very clear about how his business runs and made great recommendations based on that. Who's going to have better insight and provide better tips than the owner? I found him to be super nice, welcoming and funny. I highly suggest you ignore any post about the owners "attitude" and instead give it a try. Great food, great experience. Full recommendation!

Moore’s has been a Hendersonville staple for years and the food quality and standard has never dropped! The flavor & spice is unbeatable! I got the whiting fish and my boyfriend got the hand-cut tenders, we enjoyed every bite and don’t get me started on the seasoned fries!! We will support this small business over any chain any day of the week!

Hot Chickenus Supremus I make it a point to try and visit at least one Hot Chicken place whenever I'm in the Nashville area. On a recent visit to the area I decided to hit up one of the places I had on my list for a while, Moore's Spicy Fried Chicken in Hendersonville. Moor's has been around for years and many a Hot Chicken Fan has visited this place. Moore serves up freshly made Fried, Hot, Spicy and Mild Chicken as well as Smoked Brisket and some other favourites. During my visit to Moore's iI just happened to be served by one of the owners/founders of Moore's. We had a great conversation talking about Hot Chicken, its history, and places that have come and gone. To keep things simple since it was lunch, I ordered a breast with medium spice and crinkle fries. My chicken was made from scratch and it took about 20 minutes for the whole process. When I received my chicken it was HOT, juicy, tender and fresh and with the perfect amount of crispiness. Even though In ordered my chicken mild, I was still wiping sweat off my face while I ate my meal. it was a very good Hot Chicken meal and one of the best I've had in a while. THE place to go! Excellent food, the hot chicken is flavourful and not over spiced, juicy and is not all cayenne based. Flavour is all through the chicken. Sides are tremendous. Great atmosphere, Dave is the owner and has that real personal touch. This is a must visit and enjoy! Thanks Dave for the great meal and conversation! 5 Stars not enough!

The food is so good. Hard to argue with great quality and when you meet Mr. Moore you know that he is a person who puts tremendous pride in the quality of all that he makes. I often get the chicken breast (bone in) meal and pork chop. I like mild as it still has a kick but it is not overwhelming. The sides are also very good as well as the cornbread. The pricing too is very very good....maybe too good! LOL. I do see a lot of comments about the owner. I can see what they say but I have found if you get your order in clearly and quickly (takes a few tries) and talk about Bama football then you'll be good.

Food is to greasy cooks fish in lard. Exactly why I haven't been back. Also, not so friendly of a man or courteous to his customers... A lot improvement is needed from him.

Came out of hibernation to put in an unequivocal endorsement for this man's spicy chicken. Really really good. The flavor is complex and the tingle of the spice around your mouth afterwards is the best; kind of like a much more enjoyable Sichuan. Definitely get some potato salad to cool off a bit. Also agree to that getting one level under what you think is reasonable is a good place to start. Wish I could come back and try more, but the chicken (we got a leg and a breast quarter), Mac and cheese, potato salad, green beans, and fried okra were all exceptional. We called about 15 min before we were getting in, and it was ready and waiting for us. We also arrived at 4:15, and the table inside was free so we sat inside and ate. The proprietor was kind enough to check how we liked the food and also clean up our table after we finished. I think this guy is just no nonsense, and I guess that rubs people the wrong way sometime. But trust me, don't let your ego get in the way of this food, just smile and say "yes, thank you, may I have another?"

If you want your food burnt to a crisp this is the place to go. The breading is so overcooked it's basically black. I love hot stuff, but it needs some kind of flavor behind the hot. This is so god-awful it's just hot without the flavor. The Mac and cheese tasted like it was leftovers warmed over. What's sold as a pork chop was again burnt to a crisp and wafer thin.

Terrific HOT chicken. Not a place you might see from Main, but a must stop if you are looking for that next Hot chicken fix, the Hot is hotter than one might expect. He has been in business for quite some time, good service and a fun chat with the operator. Not much room for dine in, expect to take out if more than a couple of you.

As everyone else has said, if you're looking for a warm and fuzzy experience from a friendly owner, this isn't for you. Know what you want to order before you call, and call it in. Don't even think about showing up at 5:30pm trying to place a to-go order! Four stars instead of five only because the seasoning on the fries and strips was super salty. Even my teenager didn't finish all of his.

SHHH! Here are the secrets to having a good experience with Moore's! :) 1. Understand that Mr. Moore does everything on his own: takes orders, cooks, rings people up. He's busy and gets right to the point, which can come across as gruff, especially over the phone. He's always been very pleasant to us in person when we go to pick up! (We eat here a lot since it's our favorite hot chicken spot in town!) 2. Call your order in ahead of time! Look up the menu online so you know what you want, maybe have a back-up in mind in case he's sold out of something. (This only happened to me once because I ordered half an hour before close and he was out of mac n cheese.) When he answers the phone, rattle that order off quick. Example: "Tenders mild, okra and fries. Tenders x-hot, fries and mac n cheese." Be sure to let him know up front if it's a large order. He will tell you exactly how long it'll take for your food to be ready and the ETA he gives is precise. If he says "ready in 15," bet your britches your food will be hot and packed up ready to go in 15. Keep in mind that the wait time could be long if it's peak hours. 3. If he's too busy, he won't answer the phone. Period. It can be frustrating, but I honestly think this is way better than if he took the order but couldn't fulfill it in a timely fashion. Just keep trying and he'll pick up once he can fit more orders in. A good way to avoid this is to order off-peak hours, just before/after the lunch/dinner rush. (**I believe he's only doing lunch right now due to the pandemic.**) 4. Please note that you can't eat here, it has to be to-go. He may have allowed it pre-pandemic, I'm not sure since I always pick up. Even if you could, there were only 2 small tables inside. If you're coming from too far away to take it back home, there's a public park closeby with picnic tables, playground, dog park and green spaces! 5. He accepts cash or card, but there's an extra $1 fee to use a card. Regarding the food itself, hubby and I always order tenders (crispy skin outside, juicy chicken inside!), fried okra, fries (comes sprinkled with seasoning) and the mac n cheese (very creamy and cheesy!). You can swap out the white bread for corn bread (small extra charge I think) or opt for no bread if you prefer. The higher heat levels are genuinely hot, so if you opt for one of those, have plenty of napkins ready to soak up the sweat!

I might just be the only person who's eaten Nashville hot chicken at all 42 outlets in the Nashville metropolitan area. I completed the mission by finally making my way up to Hendersonville to visit Moore's! Here's the question: Where exactly does Moore's stand amongst those 42 restaurants? One thing is for sure! Moore's has established quite the reputation! First, in 2017, Moore's was selected to represent the state of Tennessee in the Flavored Nation competition celebrating iconic foods from every state. Then, in 2018, the Tennessean crowned Moore's the best hot chicken in the world! And finally, when you walk in and strike up a conversation with the culinary perfectionist David Moore himself, you'll find a man brimming with confidence over his creations. In fact, he'll eagerly claim to be better than Prince's, the very franchise that invented hot chicken! That's a lot to live up to! And I'd say they did pretty well. Let's get to it. THE RATINGS- Chicken quality = 10/10 This is some high quality chicken, hand-cut on site by David himself. Chicken exterior = 10/10 Finally, a restaurants that knows how to get the outside extra, extra crispy to my lofty standards. Chicken interior = 8/10 My chicken breast was a bit dry. But as a chef, I know that it's nearly impossible to get fried chicken to stay perfectly juicy. It's so finicky. Chicken size = 9/10 The chicken breasts aren't the biggest I've had, but they're perfectly adequate. Spices = 10/10 This is Moore's strength! Unlike many hot chicken places who hide bland taste behind the heat, Moore's actually makes a masterfully flavorful coating! The spices are easily the best in Tennessee! The recipe is a bit sweeter than other places, in a very good way, with so many little subtleties and nuances. What is in that spice? Maybe a hint of cinnamon? Whatever it is, the spices are PHENOMENAL! Bread soak factor = 5/10 One of my favorite aspects of hot chicken is the grand finale. The white bread is soaked in a fiery red sauce with bits of batter and chicken. You toss on a few pickles, fold it over, and finish your meal with one amazing, super spicy sandwich! Moore's doesn't want to be like anyone else. They're different. That's the beauty of Moore's. The chicken barely leaves a stain on the bread, and that's okay. I didn't get my finale, but the soak factor is only a minor portion of the formula. Average score = 9.00 Using our formula, a 9.00 rating is magnificent! In fact, the only hot chicken in Nashville to ever surpass 9.00 is 400 Degrees in North Nashville. So, Moore's is definitely doing something right and has vaulted themselves into our top 2 hot chicken joints! The Tennessean ranks #1 Moore's, #2 Prince's, #3 400 Degrees. We have #1 400 Degrees, #2 Moore's, #3 Prince's. Either way, all three are delicious, and Moore's is worth the drive. Bonus: Moore's is a rare restaurant that serves hot catfish and hot pork chops too! I'm looking forward to that! Other ratings- Price = 10/10 The price is incredibly reasonable for the product, and I don't even know how they do it! Pickle quality = 10/10 I'm a pickle fanatic, and these are the best pickles I've ever had at a hot chicken restaurant! Fried Okra = 9.5/10 This fried okra could only be outdone by my wife's okra and Dreamland in Tuscaloosa. French fries = 9/10 Spectacularly crisp fries, and FINALLY someone puts enough seasoning on their fries! Location = 7/10 It's not easy for Nashvillians to trudge through Music City traffic and fight their way up the heavily-traveled 65 corridor to Hendersonville. We can only hope David opens another outlet somewhere on the South Side! WARNING: You may have heard of, or even visited, Wiener's Circle in Chicago where the employees scream insults at you, or Shopsin's in New York where you'll be kicked out if you take too long to order, or Pat's King of Steaks in Philadelphia where you'll get booted from a very long line for ordering incorrectly. Thankfully, I've successfully ordered at all three of these restaurants. But Moore's is Tennessee's answer to the above restaurants. I was chastised for not phoning my order in advance. I was told I couldn't eat in the tiny dining room of 3 tables. I saw people treated gruffly if they ordered too slowly. The man has chicken to cook! So bring a thick skin, don't be offended when David chews you out for visiting his restaurant, and call in advance for heaven's sake! I think you'll find the drive and the verbal abuse worth the effort.

My first Nashville Hot Chicken meal, and the best fried chicken I have ever had. I came to Nashville wanting Hot Chicken, but had no idea where. We saw all the Yelp listings, but never having been in the city before, we had no idea where anything was. Fortunately, I found an article in The Tennessean, proclaiming Moores the Best Hot Chicken in Nashville. So that's where we decided to go! He had one breast quarter, two leg quarters, and a few orders of chicken tenders left. He said "you better know what you want and order it fast because if that phone rings there won't be any chicken for you!" I said, I need a sec to read the menu I've never been here before. Just then, the phone rang. As he reached for the phone I blurted out: "I'll have the breast quarter and they'll have 2 leg quarters and an order of tenders!" And he told the lady on the phone he had nothing left but tenders. Whew! That was close!! I got the Hot, because Mr. Moore refused to serve me the Extra Hot. I said "I'm from Texas - I eat spicy food all the time!" He said, "Being from Texas don't matter. You want chicken, you get it Hot. Not Extra Hot." So I settled for Hot -- and THANK GOD I DID! The Hot was so hot my I had tears running down my cheeks - it was so painful and glorious - ENDORPHIN RUSH!!! My husband got the medium hot leg quarter, and he was crying too. But neither of us could stop eating, because the chicken was absolutely delicious and did I mention the ENDORPHIN RUSH?!?! My younger daughter got a Mild leg quarter, which was too spicy for her (but she ate it anyway) and my spice-averse kid got the plain tenders, which was too spicy for her. I agree the mild was spicy -- and I'm not the one who you want to gauge the heat in anything. So be warned: Hot is blistering, Medium is very hot, Mild is hot, and plain is spicy. And it's all addictive. Mac and cheese -- delicious! Cole Slaw -- nice and cooling and crunchy. Helps with the heat. The chicken - crispy and friend perfectly, not soggy at all after a 30 min ride to our hotel in Nashville. An impeccable meal - the best I had in Nashville. 5 I-dream-of-this-Hot-Chicken!!!! stars

I am licking my fingers as I write this. It was sooo delicious. The fried catfish was to die for. The chicken was moist and all sides were amazing. Not only was the food spectacular but so was the service. When Mr. Moore saw I was carrying a baby, he walked my food out to my car for me without hesitation. So so kind. True southern hospitality and comfort food. This California girl wishes she could come here every day!! P.S. I got medium and it was just the right amount of zing

Had a great experience at Moore's! I looked at the menu online, decided on what I wanted, and called to place my order. Mr. Moore was pleasant on the phone and indicated the order would be ready in 20 minutes. I arrived at the restaurant and received a friendly greeting by Mr. Moore. The order was ready and I paid. We spent a few minutes conversing and I was on my way. I had the tenders (medium spice) with fries and cole slaw. My other half had the wings (medium spice) and baked beans. She and I found the right amount of heat level of spice for the chicken. The sides were delicious as well. I would definitely recommend Moore's Spicy Fried Chicken when you're craving hot chicken! Be prepared with your order when calling and the rest goes well. We will be back!

Hattie who?? Moore's is absolutely the way to go! And you know how you know? You gotta wait for your food to be made. They make it fresh and it shows! The hot chicken tenders are where it's at and that okra is delish!

Not sure why there are so many reviews complaining about the owner. I was in the area for work and because I'd never had Nashville hot chicken before I had to try it. Picked Moore's because it generally received great reviews though the comments about rude service made me hesitate for a moment. There was no reason for concern. I called in my order and Mr. Moore very kindly asked if I could be there in 15 minutes because he was about to close up for the day. I made it just in time and despite it being the end of what I imagine was a long work day, Mr. Moore was really nice and asked if this was my first time ordering from his place. I told him yes, I was in town for work and even though that would suggest to him that I might not become a regular or even repeat customer, he didn't treat me like a one-off customer. Definitely appreciated his kind service. Now the food. I like spicy food but man oh man, was the chicken spicy. When they say hot chicken it's no joke. It wasn't overly spicy but if you can't handle jalapeno peppers would suggest getting mild. The sides were also really tasty. Definitely would return on my next trips out to the area.

Just really good chicken! Select your level of spice, but know you will feel the "kick" as you move up. I made sure I visited from out of state, as I have a newly found excitement for Nashville Hot Chicken. This place was mentioned as #1 for hot chicken in Nashville in the Tennessean. You won't find the commercial pizazz or mark up with this place, just good chicken at a good price! (I was so excited to try it, I forgot to take a photo of the food.) P.S.- The owner is cool too!

This hot chicken will make you slap yo mama and your daddy!!!! Hands down best damn fried chicken I've ever had in my life! I'm so sad that I only got to try it once while I was in Nashville! It was legitimately spicy and that fried okra was also the best I've ever had too! Anytime I'm in Nashville I'm stopping here for sure! If I could I would fold this shop up and put it in my pocket and take it back to Michigan with me.

It was so spicy hot that we weren't able to eat the food I wish the person answering the phone would ask about heat tolerance since "hot" was inedible and the boneless breast was dry

I would say that I bring home Moore's chicken at least 4-5 times a month for myself and my 2 boys (The wife and daughter do not eat meat). Moore's chicken is operated ONLY by David Moore as there are no other employees. For being a 1 man show the guy is a friggin rockstar. I have had hot chicken from other places and have found that the skin may be good but the chicken average, or vice versa....Not Moore's Hot Chicken!!! The skin is to die for and I find myself licking the crumbs to not miss any of the spicy flavor. The Chicken itself is juicy and flavorful. A little advice..... Since he is a one man show and stays busy, know what you want to order so that you can spend as little time on the phone and he can get back to pleasing his customers with his amazing hot chicken and when you have completed placing your order let him know. (EXAMPLE) When I call I say " I would like 2 medium breast quarters and 2 mild breast quarters and that completes my order and my name is Steve". Trust me, the phone does not stop ringing and he wants everyone to be able to be attended to.

Moore's is, hands down, the best hot chicken place in not only Hendersonville, but also Nashville in my opinion. So many hot chicken spots make their spice blend extremely heavy on the spice, but don't get their flavor right. Moores is the best of both worlds. Their flavor is insanely good. Often times I'll get little to no spice when I'm not feeling the super spicy and it's still so tasty. Also, their sides are just as good as the chicken! Highly recommend if you're looking for some legit, tasty hot chicken.

Just visited this place for the first time and was blown away, food was excellent and the owner was so friendly. We will most definitely be coming back here again.

Much like how actual contemporary jazz musicians tend to talk more about Ambrose Akinmusire than say John Coltrane, you'll find more locals infatuated with Moore's than most any other hot chicken spot. This isn't to say that Hattie B's or Prince's or Bolton's is the equivalent of something as nuanced and revolutionary as John Coltrane, but they're the equivalent to the fact he's what non-jazz artists think of when they think "jazz." Moore's Hot Chicken, by all means, shouldn't work. It's in a strip mall in between five other restaurants. Moore himself can be intense if you waste his time ordering. Not to mention that every single time I've gone, the only person in the kitchen is Moore himself, and rarely maybe one or two people sitting to eat. So why do I consider this the best hot chicken in the state? Well, food at it's root is about personal preference above the intricacies of public opinion. Although you might at first doubt the personal taste of one person, me hello there, I have been a local in nashville my entire 26 years of living, and have been fortunate and privileged enough to eat at the finest restaurants across the world, including in Faroes, Scotland, Paris, Bahamas, etc. I've always tried to retain a sense of exploration and interest, always willing to try and savor the unique tastes and preferences in flavor of those who love what they love to make. I myself, however, am not much of a cook. To the best I can I'd rather leave that to the professionals trying to get by. All this to say, I might have only my experiences to draw from, but those experiences are colored by a myriad of individual, real, and careful people. And the reason I enjoy Moore's is because it is honest and real. There's no attempt to draw you into a false sense of security and anticipation about your meal. It speaks for itself. He doesn't need to smile and garner your interest. The food does it for him. The hattie B's and Party Foul's of the world fill you up with drinks and sensation to justify their meals. It is an experience laden with the false satisfaction of transitioning from simple tourist to knowledgeable traveler. You go back home to Dublin, Ohio and accidentally happen to book a bowling lane next to the sad family of your uncle's widow so at some point you bring up that, "nashville is a blast, so fun and active. really took my mind off of things. we hit the pedal taverns and we got hot chicken, which was so good, oh my god you should try it. yeah it's really actually spicy, not as much as i'd have thought but I get what they mean about 'hot chicken' now." and she smiles at you politely, but both of you are just filling in the air because nothing you can say can really get to her core and help her because you never were that close to your uncle. But was that meal really fulfilling? Was the pedal tavern and time in the honky tonks worth it? Or does your hangover speak for you? Did you enjoy drinking yourself away? Was it worth it? Will that one night with a male stripper in that marriott never leave your mind? How about when you buried his cold hard muscular body in Portland Tennessee, and made your girlfriends promise to never speak of this night again? So I'll ask again. Was it all worth it?

Wow!!! Our first time in Tennesse and we wanted hot chicken to be our first meal. We came here based on an article we read. Absolutely DELICIOUS!!!! I got medium spice and my guy got X-Hot. We both LOVED it but be ready for a super serious kick of spice! Maybe get a spice level (or two) less than what you think you want. Totally worth the trip here and we will be back again!

Went to Moores after I saw a review on YouTube. They said it was better than Hattie Bs, so I had to check it out plus it was nearby- what a plus! It was incredible!The chicken was FRESH and juicy. The flavors were amazing, but be aware hot means hot so go with Medium if you are a super spicer person. I've had hot chicken before and sometime it's so dang salty or hot that it just suck. Not Moores. Flavor, Flavor, Flavor...so good. Chef was cool guy as well as we sprung up a conversation. Call ahead as it is more of a Togo place.

THE. BEST. HOT. CHICKEN. In Nashville! Here's a hint to get your order without a problem. Write your order down before you order it. Be direct and precise. Rehearse what your gonna say before you call. You don't go to Moore's for the southern hospitality or customer service, this ain't that place. You go there to get your chicken, get the hell out, and enjoy the flavor fiesta in the comfort of your home. If you are easily shaken by a stern question and a wait time of 40 mins+ for the flavor town that is this chicken, DO NOT CALL. Don't waste this man's time, and get the hell out of my way, it's chicken time.

Confirming multiple reviews on here - the owner is not winning any awards for customer service. He kept it pleasant with me despite giving me a hard time for not calling in my order. I'm from out of town and just trying a new place. I did over hear him telling someone that it is the last time he will take his in person order and he can only order over the phone from now on. I don't really understand why he is the way he is. The food was unexpectedly good considering he is a one man show and the place looks a little run down. The chicken was well cooked and spicy. The Mac n cheese was extremely tasty. Baked beans had a little kick to them and a hint of mustard which makes them pretty unique. If you're looking for a hole in the wall Nashville hot chicken place, it's a good option. Just don't expect outstanding customer service and call your order in.

Well, I'd been in the South for three weeks, visiting relatives, then heading back to my home in Washington State, my wife and I decided we needed some spicy chicken, Nashville style. We had done this twice before when passing through this lovely area, having chosen different restaurants each time, and after a little research online, we chose Moore's for this time. We walked in green, not knowing that we had needed to call in our order. Mr. Moore looked at us and asked, " What name?" I said, "Huh? Oh, you mean I have to call in my order?!" Mr. Moore replies, "You didn't know that?! I haven't taken walk up orders in three years!" Well, we told him we from Washington and that we heard his chicken was highly recommended. We turned to walk outside and call in our order from our Ford Escape, but Mr. Moore graciously said he'd go ahead and take our order. The wife and I knew exactly what we wanted- I ordered the leg quarter with fried okra and macaroni and cheese. She ordered the shrimp with cole slaw and Mac and cheese. We both ordered the merely "hot" version, not the extra hot or XX hot or the XXX hot. In 15 minutes our food was ready. We thanked the good chef for indulging us and asked if we could sit outside to eat at the one wire table. He did allow us to that. We were not disappointed in the food. Hot was hot enough for us, and we've eaten Thai, Szechuan, Indian and Korean dishes all over the USA. I loved the crispness of chicken, and the fried okra was just right. The macaroni and cheese just might've been the best I've ever enjoyed, loaded with spicy black pepper. My wife was similarly wowed by her shrimp, cole slaw and Mac and cheese. Surprisingly, Mr. Moore came out to ask how we were doing, then stayed awhile to chat. He's really a very friendly guy, but when he's taking care of business he gets down to business. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and we will definitely be back!

Very disappointed! Salty greens beans, dry Mac and cheese and there is no way this fish was fried fresh. Only edible thing on this plate was the fresh piece of bread. $11 just thrower away.

We're driving from NYC to TX. We've heard that Tennessee has good spicy chicken. So we found this one. Let me tell you before you continue reading, just go to Prince's chicken or Hattie's chicken. If you like to be yelled at and talk down to then go here. Look I'm all about letting people embrace their personalities HOWEVER, that doesn't mean you will be rude and disrespectful to your customers by doing so. Last time I check, in order for a business to survive you got to have SOME customer service skills. He acts as if when you come in through those doors he's doing you a favor.... mmm no I'm giving you business and you need appreciate every client coming in.

Absolutely the BEST fried chicken in middle Tennessee. Better than Hattie Bs! Their mac n cheese is also the BEST!

I live in Los Angeles but my parents had moved to Nashville. Everytime I come to visit them I always stop by Moore's because I am obsessed! There's nothing else like it - the flavors are amazing. Now I got my entire family hooked on this spot. It's our little go-to for some amazing friend chicken and catfish. 10/10 recommend! My friend even came out to Nashville this most recent time and she even said there's nothing like this back home in Cali. Soooo good.

California girl visiting Tennessee for the first time, best chicken I've ever had in my life. I have no spice tolerance but love a little kick. The mild chicken was perfect, the spice coats ur mouth but is very pleasant and bearable. 10/10 plus Moore makes the business amazing..

Visited Nashville from Philly the weekend of 3/5/2020 and was directed to this place from some various news articles that listed this as the best place for "Nashville Hot Chicken". Keep in mind my only frame of reference was an attempt at home to make it myself. I didn't do this place any justice. the chicken was so juicy and the skin nice and crispy. The hot had the perfect amount of spice for me, anymore would have had me writing in delightful pain, which i wasn't in the mood for that day :-). The owner is by himself and he had the food cooked and served within ten minutes. There's not a lot of frills, just good food. The mac and cheese side and fried okra were both excellent sides. I'm glad i chose this place

Traveling south to Texas and went out of our way to go to this place. A few points to cover... Customer service: rating - 0.5/5 stars Walked in and Mr. Moore was far from what southern hospitality suppose to be. Not welcoming at all and stated "you should have called in your order" "1 hour wait minimum " No greeting whatsoever. How the heck are customers suppose to know this? Bottom line, Mr Moore is not friendly. So if you're coming here it's definitely not to be treated nice. Just have no expectations about customer service if you are dining here. Food quality: rating 3.8/5 stars Fairly decent chicken. Flavors are good and tasty. Chicken is slightly over cooked though. If you're looking for hot chicken then this place's chicken is pretty hot! Chicken could probably be cooked 2 minutes less and it would be juicier. Sides(mac n cheese, potato salad, cole slaw) are good. Well made. To be completely objective he told me 1 hour wait but food was ready in 20 minutes. A positive point. Negative point: Told us orders are for take out only. When the food was ready, i sat down to look to make sure my food was all there, he said dining room is closed and we could not sit there to eat. (Even though the place is not near closing time (5:30PM) and there were seats to sit in) In closing, If you're traveling thru or to Nashville i would not recommend going out of your way to eat here. Try another option. He's the chicken Nazi (for Seinfeld fans)..

It's amazing how customer service can change a person's overall review.. I revisited Moore's last night because it was so good the last time I went there. My coworker & I ordered via phone and the attitude of the guy (I assume owner) was totally different from the first visit. I honestly wanted to cancel my order but I had bragged to my coworker so we went ahead and kept things as was. Upon our arrival, the owner still didn't have a welcoming attitude (I get it, they were closing in an hour and 45 minutes) as he told me firmly on the phone but that isn't an excuse. This time I ordered he medium heat and I PROMISE the heat was just as HOT as the HOT option I chose he last time. My coworker told me the next morning she wasn't impressed and that we should've followed our first thought to cancel... needless to say, I we wont be returning :( Had a craving for some Tennessee famous "hot chicken" so I decided to give this place a try and I can say that I'm happy I did! I ordered the boneless HOT chicken breast with mac & cheese and baked beans as my side. The chicken was seasoned to perfection and it was indeed HOT... maybe too hot for me but still I wasn't disappointed. The sides were pretty good too but I would've preferred my mac & cheese a bit more creamy & cheesier. I will definitely visit this place again and go for the option right before the HOT option lol. The gentlemen at the register who I assume might have been the owner was very nice and gave great customer service which adds to me revisiting this place. Please note that it's pretty small inside with not much seating if you're looking for a place to dine in, but I believe ordering and eating it on the go or once you get home you'd still be happy you stopped by! Yummy in my tummy ;)

The food is good but SPICY. Even their mild. Usually just the owner working so calling ahead and doing a pickup is recommended.

This place is a gem! The owner couldn't have been more accommodating and polite. It's call in only and take out but he helped me as a walk in because I had no idea. Never have had chicken from TN and this place set the bar high! Thank you!!!!

I really want to like this business. I moved to this area over two years ago and was happy to find a black owned business in this area. I have come here 3x now hoping perhaps it was just an off day. 1st i called while in traffic coming from work so i wasn't familiar with menu (my fault i guess). Person on phone was short and rude. I explained i was driving and had never been there before, his attitude remained the same so i told him id call back. ... I did not 2nd and 3x i placed order because i learned the owner worked alone which explained perhaps the shortness and matter of factness but not an excuse, thats a choice. The food was consistent both times salty as hell, even for me and dry. I believe this last time my wings had been reheated or refried as they were extremely dry. Green beans very salty seasoned the same. SALT is not the only season its the cheapest for a reason. Working alone is the owners choice, bit should mot affect the service or quality. I know business could explode if done properly. As the area is growing rapidly. One person could only do so much. Imagine what 2 or 3 could do. Yes more expenses but also more business

So... after reading the reviews of how rude this guy is, I went ahead and tried it anyways because lots of people said the chicken is the best around. I called in my order and yes, he is not much of a people person to say the least. He asked if this was my first time calling, i told him it was and he said"yeah, I can tell" he is literally the reincarnation of the soup nazi. I actually find it rather amusing and made me laugh a bit. But the chicken my wife ate sent her to the bathroom within 20 min with it coming out both ends. Not pretty. We are thinking about opening our own Nashville hot chicken restaurant because we make a chicken that would put all these places to shame.

A 45 minute wait for an order to go???? No thanks. Guy at the register was pissed at whoever he was talking to on the phone...looked at me like I was annoying him already. Told me a 45 minute wait, I just turned and walked out...I heard him mumble about calling in orders. Good luck with that kind of customer service. And I'm no snowflake...if I'm paying $$ for a meal, I'm not going to be treated like an annoyance.

It's been 5 years and since then, there's been no improvement in the Hot Chicken scene back home in California. KFC has now made a weak attempt at emulating the Nashville Hot Chicken scene but there's still nothing like what you find here. There's been an increase in HC in the Nashville area, what was once only Princes Hot Chicken Shack has expanded into numerous eateries. While they all have their merits Moore's is still #1 in my food travels. Always crispy, always juicy and always HOT and Mr Moore is still his cantankerous self. Beneath that abruptness is a master of the Hot fried chicken arts. Thank You Mr Moore for continuing to produce a brilliant product.

MOORE'S SPICY FRIED CHICKEN made number one on someone's Best Hot Chicken of Nashville list last year, I remember seeing it online, but I don't remember who posted it, it doesn't matter, anyway, had to check out this spot in Hendersonville. The Wingdom™ wants to find the best Buffalo Wings but also the best Hot Chicken. (more Wing reviews on IG: thewingdomreview) HOLE IN THE WALL DOESN'T even do Moore's justice. It's in a strip mall off a strip mall. Mr. Moore is the only employee, racing between cooking, taking call-in phone orders, preparing, scolding young baby-faced privileged boys about the difference between "to go" and "for here," and even bussing the tables. His no nonsense attitude immediately endears, but you also want to try hard not to piss him off by saying something stupid. I WANTED TO TRY THE WINGS and the Leg Quarter, so I ordered the Wings and the Leg Quarter, both XHot. Moore's offers XXHot and XXXHot but I went with single X to leave room for additional pain later down the road. SIMPLY SPEAKING, this place is the jam. The chicken is steaming hot and moist and the breading so perfectly crunchy and the spice coating mysteriously and notably different and more savory than some competitors. It's not as oily as, say, Hattie B's. Plenty of heat in there but it's the kind you want, that lingers for a while, but doesn't ruin your day. Nose ran but eyes did not water. We detected a sweetness. Was it brown sugar? No. Wanna know how I know? Cause I asked Mr. Moore who just scoffed and said "What? You'll never guess the recipe. It's a (then he paused to count on his fingers) 34-year old recipe. Brown sugar? Please." So yeah actually there probably is brown sugar in there after all. We're onto you Mr. Moore! DEFINITELY WILL BE BACK. If only to attempt again to reverse engineer the spice! ALL IN ALL: five two-boners (10/10) in the Nashville Hot Chicken realm PRICE POINT: three double-jointers for $5 (6/$5). Good deal!

Took a family trip to Nashville so obviously we needed to find the best Nashville hot chicken. We did our research! We found this amazing place a bit off the beaten path. We reserved some time for lunch to leave downtown and go find us some chicken. At first we were going to stay downtown and get hot chicken there. I am SO glad my husband picked this place. The place is small, very small. There are three small tables inside and a small table outside. There is the owner who looked to be the only employee completely running the ship. He took the orders, cooked the food, delivered it to you and was taking phone orders. That man has got it down! Amazing chicken, flavor was like no other chicken I have ever had. The crunch was the crunchiest and the spices were spicy and perfect. He cooked my kids chicken plain and even that kicked ass. I would go here every time I go to Nashville 100%

Whoot whoot, first to review! Loved this chicken!!! Visiting from Cali and obsessed with hot chicken. In just a week, Dodge's gas station hot wings (yes, they deserve to be on the hot chicken list), Prince's, Gus in Memphis and now Moore's in beautiful Hendersonville. Had the medium-hot thigh/leg combo with bread, fries and coleslaw. Just perfect! The seasoning and heat factor fulfilled my hot chicken desires. Best coleslaw so far and fries were okay. You've got to gulp it down with Dave's homemade sweet iced tea. Dave makes everything to order so call ahead. We waited about 30 minutes but hey, the place was air conditioned and clean. If I lived here I'd be investing in a treadmill, seriously.
