Traditional techniques and tools are central: soda-lime sand and recycled glass are gathered on the end of a pipe, heated in a furnace affectionately called "Fernita," blown into a bubble, rolled, reheated and shaped; the bottom is flattened in a mold, a new pipe is attached to work the top, and the finished piece is cooled slowly in an annealer.
