Stock Your Kitchen with These Expertly Crafted Handmade Cooking Tools | Eater

"An upstate New York glass studio led by Elizabeth Lyons transforms soda-lime glass into blown vessels and sculptural objects, ranging from signature custom floral chandeliers to smaller, ready-to-buy items like colorful bowls and tea-light holders suited to the dining table. The studio emphasizes the narrative and craftsmanship behind each handmade piece, and offers a selection of works for purchase." - Terri Ciccone

How an NYC Glassblower Makes Cups, Bowls, and Vases | Eater

"Run by Elizabeth Lyons in upstate New York, this glassblowing studio treats the craft as both kinesthetic and visual — Lyons likens it to a muscle developed by repetition. Traditional techniques and tools are central: soda-lime sand and recycled glass are gathered on the end of a pipe, heated in a furnace affectionately called "Fernita," blown into a bubble, rolled, reheated and shaped; the bottom is flattened in a mold, a new pipe is attached to work the top, and the finished piece is cooled slowly in an annealer. Lyons emphasizes the continuity of the ancient art and the value of handmade objects, noting that each piece carries the story and experience of its making." - Terri Ciccone

Don't hesitate to stop by this gem in Brighton. Beautiful art from beautiful people. We came with our children after learning about how glass is made to see some examples of blown glass and get a peek at the workshop (pre-COVID). We were invited into the doorway of the workshop, chairs were brought out for our children to sit in, and we were able to watch the entire process from a safe distance. The artists were patient and kind, answered all of our questions, and were impressive teachers as well. We learned so much and saw a wonderful skill at work! Five stars for the experience. Five stars for the art that can be both functional and beautiful. Thank you!
