Morimoto Maui - Review - Wailea - Maui - The Infatuation

"If you planned your trip to Maui for your honeymoon, anniversary, or fake engagement that you’re hoping will get you free stuff, Morimoto Maui should be on your fancy-dinner list. This restaurant is located at the Andaz Resort Maui, just off the shoreline of the insanely beautiful Mokapu Beach, which is why you should pay extra attention to the raw bar, and also why almost everyone has their phone out. After taking in the scenery, order the tuna pizza with fresh-caught raw ahi and anchovy aioli for the table because it’s one of the best things here, then focus on the sushi - though there’s also an impressive wagyu beef selection. And if you want a really big night - and have a good deal of money to spend - then the Morimoto Omakase, a $140 per person seven-course chef’s choice tasting menu, is the way to go. There’s also an extensive sake list to sip from while you figure out the best angle for a sunset picture. RESERVE A TABLE WITH RESERVE A TABLE" - Leah Ponichtera

Great ambiance. The staff was kind and friendly [0] Unfortunately, food quality was very disappointing. So their sticky bbq was great. However, 1. their sushi tasted a bit stale. Their Sake ( salmon ) and Sabe ( makarel ) in parituclar tasted like they were left in the sun for too long and just turned a bit bad. 2. Their cocktail, moritale(?), tasted like they forgot to add ingredients. It tasted straight up vodka with a hint of sake. This was our babymoon dinner, and didnt want to ruin it, so I didnt make any complaints. But sushi was too disappointing. [0] There was a small mishap for my order of 20 nigiri x 2 maki set. They mistakenly thought I ordered 10 nigiri set. When they brought it out, I told them about their original order and they brought another 10 nigiri set.

Google
Ashley was so delightful and helpful with ordering our special lunch at Morimoto. The sushi was definitely the best I've experienced and the wagyu sashimi was out of this world. Definitely will be back.

Google
We enjoyed their appetizers more than entrees. Ribs, carpaccio, and gyoza were all delicious. For main, we ordered spicy hotate roll, duck fried rice, and kushiyaki set. Kushiyaki set was a miss for us - didn’t like that super sweet sauce was smothered on every single one of the skewers and vegetables. Because of that everything just tasted sweet with no other flavors. The black pan that was used for serving those skewers was for presentation only, it didn’t keep the food warm at all. Ended the night with ube cheesecake, enjoyed that too. Given the reviews and the brand, I expected more.

Google
I will be dreaming about the sticky ribs for a while after this. Food and drinks were amazing, everything was cooked to perfection, presentation was on point and the flavors were very unique and delicious. Mikey, our server was awesome, made great food recommendations.

Google
Morimoto was an incredible experience. The food is incredible. The spicy short ribs might be the best ribs I've ever eaten. Aaron, Grayson, and Alan were also incredible servers able to answer and questions we had. It is a wonderful dining experience

Google
Garett, our server/bartender was amazing! Super knowledgeable and reccomended the perfect beer to be eaten with sushi. The sticky ribs were AMAZING! Super friendly staff and welcoming environment. I had to come back and edit my review; my husband forgot his sunglasses and hat at our table and we were headed out to get our car. We realized he forgot them right as our car was brought to the front. We were about to go back to get them, but Garett had ran to the front of the resort to bring them to us. All of the staff, epically Garett, went above and beyond!!

Google
Appetizers were not bad but rather ordinary - we had the poke tacos, fish carpaccio, and rock shrimp tempura. The 14 oz wagyu steak was way too salty that we could not even finish. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes but everything was pretty underwhelming. Also, I was surprised that the appetizer plates were not switched out with dinner plates before the main dish, given that it was an upscale restaurant. The sunset views were nice.

Alexandra V.

Google
We’re glad we tried the ribs, they did not disappoint their very highly talked up reputation. However, the highlight of our dinner was the cheesecake… the flavor of everything on its own and of course the combinations was just amazing. The atmosphere was perfect, we made the reservations for right around the sunset time and we were lucky enough to see the hotel’s lu’au from our table. It was really a unique dining experience for us.

Yelp
My husband and I decided to end our Maui trip with a bang and chose Morimoto Maui for dinner on our last night at the Andaz. Chef Morimoto is our favorite Iron Chef, and we had a lovely dining experience at his Las Vegas restaurant many years ago. What makes his Maui location stand out, though, is the menu, which blends traditional Japanese cuisine with creative Western and Hawaiian influences. For our appetizer, we ordered one of their menu specials, a King Salmon roll that came with asparagus and a surprising addition of fried pickle. I could have done without the latter because it made the roll overly salty, but the King salmon itself was incredibly fresh and buttery, which helped balance out the unusual pairing. For our main dishes, we ordered the Chilean sea bass and the 16‑ounce Wagyu ribeye. The fish was cooked perfectly and featured a delicious black bean sauce that complemented its flavor and the accompanying vegetables nicely. The ribeye was also well‑seasoned and tender, although for its hefty price and wagyu label, we were expecting it to truly stand out. For dessert, we went with their ube Basque cheesecake, which was generously sized and perfect for those who prefer things "not too sweet". The restaurant offers an upscale yet relaxed ambiance with its oceanfront setting, which is especially memorable at sunset. It is the perfect spot to celebrate a special occasion or end a trip to the beautiful island of Maui on a high note.

Yelp
If you raise the price and decrease the quality and quantity of the food, it is not a good combination. Service was good like usual but the quality of the food was very disappointing . The tuna pizza was very small and we laughed with my wife. The duck confit was bad and no more egg on the top. It is more expensive for less. Stop being cheap ! This location was incredible 2 years ago. I think that it was my last time to Morimoto in Maui.

Yelp
Morimoto was so good we went twice in our week long trip! It's located in the Andaz, and is a beautiful restaurant with sunset views if you time it right. I highly recommend making a reservation, as we still had a short wait with ours. Both visits we experienced excellent service. The servers were attentive and knowledgeable about the menu to make great recommendations. The duck fried rice and chef's choice combination sushi were highlights for us. Highly recommend if you're in Wailea!

Yelp
Morimoto Maui is a definite 5 star experience, located inside the Andaz Hotel. We loved every moment of our dining experience. The service was impeccable. Our server was on it, and checked in quite frequently to ensure everything was brought out in a timely fashion. The food was divine. Fresh seafood, with impeccable flavors! I couldn't give a favorite but I've attached photos for ideas! There is also a kids menu which was just perfect for our littles and we truly appreciated that. The ambiance is spot on. Ocean views, pool views, and if you're lucky you'll see the Hawaiian dances in the Andaz Garden. Just lovely. Will we be back, definitely. This experience has us wanting to try other Morimoto eateries as well! Cheers to perfection Yelpers! Xx

Yelp
Very expensive and underwhelming food. We stayed at the Andaz for 8 nights and gave this a try for dinner. Far and away, the worst meal we had in Maui. Spoke to a few other Andaz guests and got the same impression. Would not come back. Go somewhere else.

Yelp
I love Morimoto always have. This visit was one of the best. Sometimes it can feel like a food mill. Napa comes to mind but the diver in Maui was perfect. The waitress was super bubbly, funny, and a pleasure to chat with. She sounded exactly like Margaret Cho which was a trip. The pace of food delivery was excellent and each dish got better than the last. The location is really nice too, out at the Andaz pool. Morimoto is a must for us when vacationing in Wailea.

Yelp
We went here for my birthday as a special occasion, as I was a big fan of Iron Chef, and we are always on the lookout for new dining experiences. The Andaz is a beautiful setting and the ambiance is very luxurious. We had the sticky ribs as an appetizer, and if I were to ever go back...I might just order four appetizers of sticky ribs. They were that good, which is saying a lot as they were not smoked. We had the Wagyu fillet and sushi. Both were so simple, and made to perfection. This was my girlfriend's favorite sushi on the island. The Wagyu steak was pricey but on point with a good char and velvety soft. It tasted expensive. Mmm. So far, everything was a five star experience. I also ordered the pork chop. This was where Siri started directing us towards a lake. I normally never order steak or pork chops, as I can do these at home pretty well for a fraction of restaurant cost, but the flavor profile looked pretty original, and who knows when we might ever come back here again. (Btw, pause on this review to recognize how amazing my girlfriend is for allowing me to splurge on multiple entrées for my birthday - love you!) The chop took FOREVER to come out. Like so long we wanted to just cancel it and leave. The restaurant was near complete empty; there was simply no excuse for this to happen. People were just standing around. There wasn't even an explanation, only "it's almost out," over and over. It's like we were getting gaslit at dinner. lol I felt like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football from Lucy. When it finally did come out, it was beautiful and glistening; however, it was dry. Dry like only my dad from my childhood who loved overcooking pork chops on the Weber grill on barbecue days to the point where I never had another pork chop for decades because I thought they were supposed to be dry. "Why do people like these?" lol (Another review pause: I love you too, Dad. If only they had meat probes back in our childhood, I might have loved barbecue days instead of smothering your chicken and chops in BBQ sauce to get them down.) If it just came out dry, I would simply chalk it up to a bad cook. Likewise, if it just took a long time to come out, because staff were messing around or it was slammed, I would've chalk that up to life happens. But for the place to be empty, and take a long time, and the cook was dry, and the waiter did not offer to comp...everyone gets an F. . Aahhhh.... We finished the night with the flaming dessert, which was one of the best dessert experiences of my life. It's always great having "an experience" rather than a meal. All in all, I would for sure recommend this place, but our experience was marred by the Great tragic pork chop incident of 2023.

Yelp
The worst dining experience we had in Maui. Reservation was for 7pm, showed up at 6:55pm, but got sat at 7:15 pm. Service was slow, food was decent but not worth the price. We got a bottle of white wine which was plunked down on the table with no chilling, then 1/2 an hour later the waiter figured it out and brought an ice bucket. Too late and haphazard. Then it took 2hrs 30mins to do the omakase menu because the servers were so inattentive... my husband's wagu was way overcooked and it took another 20 mins to refire a properly cooked steak. If you're staying at the Andaz, skip this place. Everywhere else is far better and skips the Chef Morimoto hype.

Yelp
Food **** Service ***** Ambiance *****+ Casually unassuming typical Island laid back atmosphere wide variety of menu items to select from. One miss step omitted our anniversary celebration no big thing just our 56th . Enjoy!

Yelp
We are big fans of iron chef and so we wanted to try Morimoto while we are in Hawaii. Waygu beef carpaccio --thinly sliced Waygu beef in a citrus sauce . Local fish carpaccio-- love the fish texture and the citrus sauce. Ishi yaki buri nap -- so good with yellow tail slight seared. Server mixes it and told us that morimoto won his first competition with this dish. Kushi yaki -- lobster, pork belly, Waygu burger, and chicken Chef's selection of sashimi -- amazing presentation This place is amazing and the dishes are so unusual and delicious!
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Always great service. Excellent sushi and great cocktails, of yes and the beautiful view!
google avatar

Clara B.

Yelp
Nancy was really lovely! Andrew was fabulous in seating us by the pool at sunset hour! Fish carpaccio my favorite and the cod with miso sauce! Highly recommend this gorgeous setting!

Nikita B.

Yelp
Honestly if you are to only get one thing off the menu let it be the ribs! Everything was delicious but the ribs were next level. The service was great! The white lady at the front check in didn't seem so welcoming but her coworker who I'm assuming is Hawaiian was super sweet! Our server was also great! Gave us great recommendations and we enjoyed our anniversary meal. It also worked out because we were staying at the Andaz and this place was also convenient to us.

Yelp
Wow wow wow! I loveddddd this experience from world renowned iron chef morimoto! This is a must visit restaurant on the island of Maui. The fish is fresher than ever and the drinks are so unique and beautifully constructed. The aesthetics and service are one in a million. It's a bit of a difficult find unless you're actually staying at the hotel but there's plenty of people to help guide the way. I loved the sushi and I wish the tacos were all you can eat because I could've indulged myself endlessly. Thanks chef morimoto for bringing this gem to the Hawaiian islands.

Yelp
My family has been here in years past and make the 50 minute drive to have an amazing meal, but sadly this time we went we were let down. The host at the front wasn't the friendliest and had us seated 20 minutes late, and then the service all throughout was very sub par. When I reminded the other host that it was my dad's birthday as she walked us to our table, she didn't seem to care or note that for the celebration at the end of the meal. We waited long periods of time and had to flag people down to get drinks, wine opened, food ordered, credit card back after paying (because somehow it was left at the machine after they swiped). Food was great but not insanely good like before, especially for Maui and the fresh fish abound. Unfortunately, it seemed like a very understaffed operation in 2025 and the servers either are fed up or just lack effort. Need improvements made to management.

Yelp
Braydon made our experience unforgettable! We've been at the resort all week and have already dined here twice -- and we're counting down to lunch again tomorrow. The food is out of this world -- truly some of the best we've ever had -- and the atmosphere is just perfect. You can relax with a great meal while keeping an eye on the kids in the pool. It's the kind of place that makes vacation feel effortless. Exceptional service, breathtaking views, and food you'll be dreaming about long after you leave. Don't miss it! Let him guide you through everything you should order! Including the sake, and drinks! - AB & Courtney

Emily C.

Yelp
I would literally rate this a 0 star if I could. By far the worst omakase I've ever had in my life, worse than even the $50 omakase I've had at other places, and they charged us $200 per person. The tuna tartare was pasty and tasted like cat food, the nigiri's were so fishy and clearly not fresh, and the mushroom dumpling was frankly disgusting. I was beyond disappointed and I will never be coming back here. There was also only six courses and two of those six were one singular scoop of ice cream (one with some pear slices rolled around it). It's just such a waste of money and I'm very upset.
google avatar

Taylor G.

Yelp
Not only is the location unbeatable--but the food and service at Morimotos is next to none. Sticky rib- YES! Sake flights - YES! Waygu - YES! Definitely a must go to if you are in wailea/kiehi and love fresh fish/meat and amazing service

Yelp
We actually didn't have high expectations because it's a hotel and high turn tables so we were pleasantly surprised to say it was fine. Food was tasty, but unremarkable. The dining room was busy and never slowed down, but it was never too loud. Service was really good for the first half of the meal, but we struggled to find our waiter at the latter half of the meal. When we did flag him down, he was very personable. We wouldn't come again, but it's a fine choice if you're staying at the hotel as we were.
google avatar

Jill C.

Yelp
Such a fun fun dinner! We came here three years ago for the first time and it was a highlight - we couldn't wait to come back. They've just changed the menu and we were excited about the new offerings! Maui onion roll and soft shell crab roll were our favorites, and the sticky ribs are mind blowing. The Malasadas for dessert are not to be missed!! Service was incredible, ambience was lively. We hope to be back again before another three years go by!

Yelp
"Exceptional Dining Experience at Morimoto Maui" Every year for my annual assignment I return to Morimoto with my wife and am never disappointed but pleasantly surprised by the increasing level of quality and service and new menu items every year. Always raising the bar over the competition. If you're looking for a truly remarkable dining experience in Wailea, HI, Morimoto Maui is the place to be. This upscale sushi bar and Japanese seafood restaurant offers a diverse menu that caters to a variety of tastes, including takeout, delivery, and vegan options. The ambiance is beautifully designed, featuring outdoor seating amidst elegantly lit pools and water features that create a serene atmosphere perfect for enjoying a meal. Renowned chef Masaharu Morimoto has curated a menu that showcases traditional Japanese flavors with a modern twist. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by attentive waitstaff who made us feel welcomed and well-cared for throughout our meal. The selection of dishes is nothing short of extraordinary, with each item meticulously crafted to tantalize the taste buds. We started our culinary journey with the tofu miso, a delightful dish featuring silken tofu in a white miso broth that set the tone for the evening. The Chilean sea bass, served with an XO sauce and seasonal vegetables, was perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. The braised black cod in a sake-soy reduction was rich and satisfying, while the Hamakua mushrooms, enhanced with brown butter and sherry white soy, added a unique touch to our dining experience. The highlight of our meal was the Chef's Choice Combination sushi plates, which included an exquisite selection of fish: maguro (tuna), sake (salmon), unagi (freshwater eel), ebi (shrimp), hamachi (yellowtail), kampachi (amberjack), tai (Japanese red snapper), and saba (Japanese mackerel). Each piece was fresh and expertly prepared, showcasing the exceptional quality that Morimoto is known for. To complement our meal, we enjoyed a flight of Aged Sake along with another flight of Premium Sake , which paired beautifully with the sushi, as well as a bottle of French ROGER NEVEU Sancerre that rounded out our dining experience perfectly. The stunning sunset views and the soothing sounds of live music made for an unforgettable evening. While you will pay a premium price for the high-quality, fresh seafood at Morimoto Maui, the overall experience--combined with the beautiful ambiance and attentive service--makes it entirely reasonable and worthwhile. In comparison to other dining options like Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa at the Grand Wailea, Morimoto Maui offers incredible value for the quality and experience provided. I highly recommend Morimoto Maui for everyone seeking fine dining with an emphasis on fresh fish in Maui. The exceptional quality, ambiance, and service truly set this restaurant apart. This premium meal was an extremely great value!! Thank you, Morimoto, and Kudos to all staff and management for an unforgettable evening!

Yelp
Even though the menu was unique, the atmosphere delightful and food tasted great; this meal was too expensive for sushi that isn't that much different than another sushi place on the island. The best items were sticky ribs.
google avatar

John K.

Yelp
Incredible location with great sushi! Highly recommend the sticky ribs and Ohtoro. A must for all sushi fan's looking for great sushi in a great location

Yelp
Such an amazing meal in Maui! Every dish we ordered was absolutely amazing. Shout out to our waiter Michael who had so much knowledge about each dish. This meal was our favorite on our trip. Definitely recommend!

Jimmy G.

Yelp
Came here for our anniversary and left really disappointed. The oysters, pork gyoza, and drinks were solid, but everything else missed the mark. The "spicy" tuna roll had zero flavor, the fatty tuna and king salmon sashimi were mid, and the A5 sashimi was way too salty. The duck confit rice was dry and bland. When I told the waitress the spicy tuna roll wasn't spicy or flavorful, she dismissed me, saying "some people find it spicy." Super unprofessional. For the price and hype, this place just doesn't deliver. Definitely wouldn't recommend or come back -- especially for a special occasion.

Yelp
This is our 2nd time at this Morimoto location, Maui. This one located in Andez hotel, down by the pool. Has indoor and outdoor seating. Reservation: via open table. Not too crowded and not too loud. Good for family. Our server is amazing and super friendly. Restroom: 2 individual gender neutral restrooms. We ordered: Sticky ribs - comes in 3 pieces - nice flavor and come off the bones Lobster fried rice - not a fan of this one, they use basmati rice, not as good as they use japanese rice and a bit too oily. A5 miyazaki japanese wagyu - min 3oz. They should use any sauce, let the wagyu shows its own flavour. Too thick of a cut, so you still have to chew a bit more instead normally it melts in your mouth. Calamari tempura salad - too much breading on the tempura and the dressing was too sour. Sashimi platter 14pc - good. Guava flow drink- nice Pina faux tito drink- very refreshing Overall ok. I still like the one in Vegas better.

Jack C.

Yelp
This was genuinely so disappointing. We got the omakase option, which we've heard great things about. But it was terrible, fishy smell, and we all left the dinner hungry because they simply did not give enough food. The waiter looked like he felt bad at the end and explained that they had some chefs leave which is why their omakase quality has declined. I recommend avoiding this restaurant as the food is awful and they're clearly just surviving based on brand alone but the food no longer lives up to the hype, and yet they keep the same prices up.
google avatar

Allison P.

Yelp
Hands down the best sushi I have ever had! We had our anniversary dinner overlooking to ocean and we are so happy we landed here. Everything was amazing, including the service. They even had a little dessert surprise for us! It was on the pricier side, but we didn't mind splurging for our anniversary trip.

Jordan J.

Yelp
My mom and I stayed at the Andaz and went here three out of five nights! You can't beat the view at sunset, it is an exceptional view especially from the bar. There are some very affordable options. Several vegan and vegetarian options. Staff was very knowledgeable and helped to point out vegetarian modifications that could be made. All staff was very kind. Lots of special dishes (table side cooking or flame) that add that extra wow factor if you are celebrating something. The Edamame serving size could feed a family of six, huge portion!! Also reservations can be made on OpenTable too.
google avatar

Lisa P.

Yelp
Morimoto Maui is located in the Hyatt Andaz Wailea hotel. Valet parking only. The restaurant is all the way down to the ground floor from the hotel lobby. The staff will direct you courteously. Once in the restaurant, I requested indoors and received a table with a view of the ocean. It was peaceful and relaxing. I ordered the braised black cod with sushi rice. The cod was well marinated in sake soy sauce. It is mostly ala carte so u can customize your lunch. I then ordered a wonderful chocolate macadamia cake. It was delicately flavorful of subtle sweetness. The service was great, timely and courteous. I will return here whenever in Wailea again.
google avatar

Lucian F.

Yelp
Went there for dinner. Hubby had to call to make a reservation; all the dinner slots are always blocked for online reservations (not a fan of this strategy). Location is unbeatable, and the ambiance is nice. We were seated outside, but it was already dark, so we didn't get to see the famous ocean view they mention. Maybe next time for happy hour. There was a bit of a luau happening at some point; it was ok, but I can live without it (gave White Lotus S1 vibes). Sushi and sashimi were spot on, just great. I tried a couple of Passion Pau Hana; highly recommended if you like Midori. Try the sticky ribs, you won't regret it. We had the Ishi Yaki Bri Bop for the main course. The tableside cooking was a nice experience. They mentioned it's a signature dish because Morimoto won Iron Chef with it, but for me, it was just ok. The fish had a substantial bloodline, which made it unpleasantly fishy. I know some chefs leave it on purpose for extra flavor, but it was a total miss for my palate. Overall, good (and kinda pricey) experience, but not mindblowing. We would probably return.

Erika H.

Yelp
Great food and service! We had a buttery fish and their fantastic chicken. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Jen R.

Yelp
With all the choices on the island I can't say I'll be back. Server was not the friendliest. Two of our items did not arrive till we reminded our server. Food was good but not amazing given the prices. View is gorgeous which was nice.
google avatar

Ming M.

Yelp
It was so good, we visited twice during the five days we were in Maui. Despite the many restaurants at Wailea all within walking distance via the beach walk, after the first dinner of excellent sushi rolls and the crispy flavorful ribs, we had to go again the next night. The best dinner we had in Maui, and there is plenty of competition in the area. The second night, they remembered us and sat us outside while the luau was performed. A free luau show for the price of a meal at Morimoto! Get the ribs for sure! Best ribs ever and they are the exact same ribs you get at Morimoto Asia in Florida.

Lee S.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and food was out of this world. Service is exceptional especially Tatiana. We had both sushi special with waygu and the fresh fish. Drinks were also spectacular and most importantly portions were large and not over priced. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Grant H.

Yelp
This was our best meal in Maui! I told our server that the food was only outdone by the wonderful service. Impeccable. Each dish was well-prepared, well-seasoned, and presented beautifully. The setting was perfect, and there was a luau next to the restaurant that we were able to watch.

Yelp
Enjoyed our evening at Morimoto! Though we had our kids taggging along, we appreciate the service and the efficiency getting us done with dinner My kids ate- salmon roll and Tuna roll We had popcorn shrimp- which was a great start done 2 ways but I don't know if the sauce was needed? We also ordered the A5- very good! Mushrooms and duck rice- both excellent sides Dinner- masaladas- yummy Thanks team Morimoto!

Chris C.

Yelp
So sad to return and be disappointed. Calamari salad with wilted greens, fishy calamari, and no crunch!

Yelp
First timer at Morimoto's! First off the location is pristine. It is located at the Andaz hotel and is very close to the beach. The sunset views are incredible. We started off with a couple of cocktails. My wife had hula laka and really enjoyed it. I went with the old Smokey and was very pleased. We did the duck fried rice as an appetizer. I would say it was good but not great. Then we did the 10 piece nigiri and a spicy salmon roll. It was good sushi, but there wasn't anything that made it stand out compared to other sushi that I've had. Now for dessert we had the Ube cheesecake and it was unbelievable!!! In regard to the service it was top notch! The ambiance was amazing. Overall I rated it 4/5 stars just because I thought the food could have been a touch better. Everything was good but other than the cheesecake nothing blew me away as better than what I've had before. Hope this helps! Would definitely eat here again.
google avatar

Amelea J.

Yelp
We had a large party to celebrate my aunt's 70th birthday. We strategically set our reservations the same time luau was going on. You should check the luau times before hand. I would say the sticky ribs and the ube cheesecake is the fan favorite. I will be going back for more !! That was amazing !!

Alyssa P.

Yelp
This is my second time to Morimoto and both times have been a 10/10 experience. Our service, the food, and the timeliness of the restaurant is amazing. We had bao buns, friend rice, sticky ribs, spicy tuna roll, and some nigiri and sashimi! Our waiter was fantasticccc

Michael H.

Yelp
Amazing service, diverse menu, tasty and creative dishes. The ambience is perfect with wonderful poolside views of the sunset

Yelp
The food itself is very good but be prepared for a hefty tab. Also, I wouldn't qualify this place as toddler/kids friendly especially if you plan to use a stroller or even ADA friendly. Why? The restaurant is at the 'bottom' level of the Andaz and they do not elevator! Yup, you have to take the many stairs down to get the restaurant. The waiter told us they have a golf cart to take people up to the lobby if necessary. As for the food, it was on point. We started with the popular tuna tartare, pot stickers, and the wagyu beef carpaccio. The tuna tartare comes with a side of 6 condiments so you can mix as and how you please...highly recommend it. Skip the pot stickers, it wasn't spectacular yet expensive. Wagyu beef carpaccio is another must try because the sauce was outstanding. The hubby had the fresh catch of the day and I ordered the yellowtail in hot bowl. Both were good. The kids had the rock shrimp and beef filet which were also good. We wrapped up the meal with their mousse dessert that was decadent.

Yelp
Eh. Was not impressed. Beautiful views, really good wine. The pork Gyoza is worth getting, but thought the sushi was just okay!

Yelp
Largely what you expect from a "brand" experience. Good for kids and families. My main disappointment was being asked if I wanted fresh wasabi on my nigiri for an up charge. I've never been at a high end sushi restaurant that didn't just use fresh wasabi and include it in the price so I found that odd but I could understand the value of choices. Then to my surprise they didn't put it on directly the sushi but served it on a side dish. At these prices, I'm expecting an expert sushi maker who will craft the perfect sushi with the right amount of wasabi - not DYI. This would be like asking if I wanted premium rice and then putting it on the side for me to put on my sushi for extra or on sashimi to make nigiri myself. Coursing was also off that night with the entrees arriving very late. The restaurant has a cool vibe but honestly wouldn't go out of your way. It's a fine hotel restaurant for guests.

Hey El El E.

Yelp
We were anticipating an amazing experience here as Morimoto is THE Iron Chef. Summary: good food, bad timing for food. One of the dishes was the duck. We were told it was going to take 30 minutes to cook. No problem. It took about 45 minutes. No warning. No update. There were 4 of us. Two dishes came out together. The third dish came out about 5-10 minutes later. The last dish was sushi and it came out last, which was basically after the first two dishes were already eaten. We were trying to be understanding until we remembered that 2 of our side dishes never even made it to our table. We asked the waiter about the missing dishes. He didn't apologize. Just said he's going to check on it. We waited 20 minutes and were told it was coming out. Nope. All of us finished our dishes so there was no point in having these dizhes served. We cancelled them and were given a "my apology" apology versus comping or even the manager coming out to apologize properly. The front of the house definitely needs work. It's unfortunate that a great chef's restaurant tarnished what could've been the icing on the cake for our Hawaii experience.

Yelp
Fantastic meal, sunset view, and especially service. Michael was one of the better servers I've had in some time, and was so knowledgeable about everything on the menu from drinks to food that fit our vibe for the night. What I really appreciated was how caring and welcoming he was on our first night on the island celebrating our anniversary. The gyoza and sticky ribs and giant tasty salad + sushi really hit the spot on the comfort food levels. Can't wait to try more of the finer dishes on the menu on our next visit.

Yelp
First of all you can find better sushi or poke anywhere off property. $140 for sub par gas station sushi which they claim is fresh. Understaffed and rude supervisor. Literally drive 5 mins to Kihei and get anything better. Terrible.

Yelp
First, a word to potential diners: this is a world-class four dollar sign restaurant. The ingredients are very costly and the preparation highly skilled. Don't give it one star because you think it's expensive. Pro tip: come for lunch. Easy to get a reservation and everything is more relaxed. It's also a beautiful hotel. Now the review: Stellar service, laid back atmosphere. Detailed and skilled preparation of dishes. I strongly recommend sharing plates among your group. Most dishes share well and everyone gets to try the full range of flavors and ingredients. Try things out of your comfort zone. Definitely order the wagyu carpaccio and sticky ribs to start. Marvelous textures and flavors. Try a sake flight to add to your tasting experience. The smoked cocktail and the Infinite Toki are also quite delicious. If you are a sushi lover, definitely get a chef's choice platter. Served with real grated wasabi (not fake green horseradish) and house pickled ginger, it's a perfect sushi experience. We also added some extra less fancy sushi to round it out. For example, the California roll may be a trope but perfectly prepared with real snow crab , it's a really delicious bite. We ordered entrees, including 4 ounces of A5 wagyu, the pork chop, and the fish bop cooked at the table in a screaming hot stoneware bowl. Wow! Impressive to watch the presentation and even better to eat. A5, properly prepared, has long been on my bucket list. It's so rich you can't eat much. It's nothing like American style steak. It's more like an exquisite rich mouth experience as opposed to a steak. A few bites suffice. Morimoto's does it right. They even showed us the beef certificate as proof of authenticity. The pork chop is excellent - made from specialty pork imported from Japan. Entree servings are generous unless you are ordering by the ounce. Smaller appetites may want to share. Don't forget the excellent desserts. This is a terrific restaurant and we enjoyed everything. Shout out to our server Michael. Highly recommended.
