The Cajun boil at Morningside Cafe is just what this park needed - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"There isn’t a stale muffin in sight at this concession stand overlooking Morningside Park. Instead, you can crack blue crabs and lobster, peel shrimp, and hoover up a small mountain of mussels while watching the sun set over an informal softball game. The experience of ripping apart snow crab legs while wearing a plastic bib on a parkside terrace is pure uptown summer joy, and it’s even better once you know a little bit more about the seafood boil specialist behind it all. photo credit: Sonal Shah Morningside Cafe is run by Michael Summerville, who is the son of Crabman Mike, a now-retired 125th Street legend from the ’90s. The family’s Cajun herb-spice blend keeps you guessing—oregano? mint? is that coriander?—and it's just as punchy in its new Manhattan Ave. home, sloshing around in aluminum trays. Sit near a group of domino players on one of the few outdoor tables, and pair your seafood with some snappy corn, or a hot dog if the summer spirit overwhelms you. photo credit: Sonal Shah photo credit: Sonal Shah photo credit: Sonal Shah Pause Unmute" - Sonal Shah

10/10 the food was amazing, prices were great. It was clean and we got cool bibs to keep us clean. They even showed us how to properly open up the crabs which was super nice because we were struggling. But again food was 10/10 and the staff is also 10/10.

Lovely setting and lovely people. The food here is so fresh and delicious and we don’t have a lot of great seafood options in the neighborhood so it’s really exciting this place opened up. Sitting overlooking the park is so relaxing, no better outdoor seating in the neighborhood. I’ve already come twice since it opened and can see myself here weekly!

Fantastic food in a hidden gem of a spot! I had the shrimp and Cajun corn and it was really excellent. Some people nearby ordered the king crab and it looked and smelled incredible. This place is the real deal, the people couldn’t have been nicer, and I can’t wait to go back, it’s the kind of small business you root for and support.

New favorite place! Fantastic food, varied menu w/a little something for everyone, at every price point (Cajun crab/shrimp plates! Also coffee, beer, smoothies, burgers/hot dogs, salads, sides, and more) Mike the owner has a smile as big as Morningside Park (and also makes *amazing* shrimp). Go! Sit and enjoy the beautiful park! Support this new business! For reference, we went in July ‘25, and they were open 11a-9p, w/add’l plans to expand breakfast/pastry offerings soon.

Morningside Magic! If cozy charm and top-tier got together to open up a parkside eatery, it would be Morningside Cafe!! From the moment you walk in, you're wrapped in the scent of fresh seafood deliciousness. The hot dogs are yummy good too!! The proprietor Crabman Mike is friendly and lightning-fast. Perfect for lazy Sundays, power-through Mondays, or anytime you need a bite of pure happiness. Morningside Cafe is my new happy place!

Hidden gem right by Morningside Park. Great place to grab a bite outdoors with family and friends and for any tourist in the area! Food was delicious at very affordable prices. We tried crab legs, blue crab, Cajun corn and a cheeseburger, next time we'll try the hot dog! They also have happy hour early which is nice.

Yelp
Morningside Cafe is a beautiful new outdoor cafe on the renovated scenic terrace overlooking Morningside Park, off of Manhattan Avenue at W. 112th St. I stopped by for a cold drink on a hot day, but impressed at the list of Cajun boil items on the Opening Menu and anticipate heading over for Blue Crab some time soon. (Seafood is brought to the cafe by Harlem's Michael Summerville a.k.a. "Crab Man Mike.") They have burgers and hot dogs, if that more your speed, plus some cold beverages and sweet treats perfect for summer time enjoyments. Morningside Cafe has a few cafe tables, which will make enjoying your food there the perfect way to enjoy a super park view. Suggest heading on over to this great uptown spot! Note - Despite the "morning" and "cafe" reference in its name, the concession is open from 11 AM to 9 PM - oddly not a place you can go for a morning bite and coffee, which would be a spectacular relaxing breakfast bite location, like on the weekend!

Yelp
Despite the name, it's never open in the morning. You know, the time of day when you usually want a cafe.
