The Best Irish Bars for St. Patrick’s Day in the Twin Cities | Eater Twin Cities

"Uptown’s only Irish pub has a cozy, understated wooden interior and a menu of bar fare with some Irish-inspired twists. Try Morissey’s thick-cut corned beef on braised cabbage and colcannon potatoes or the Guinness beef stew made with steak, carrots, and mushrooms; there’s also a full Irish breakfast served all day. Drinks include Irish selections like Guinness, Smithwicks, and Harp, plus local pours from Utepils, Castle Danger Brewery, and Sociable Ciderwerks. Morrissey’s hosts trivia Wednesdays, movie trivia Thursdays, and karaoke Saturdays." - Eater Staff

Hosted a birthday party in The Shoppe and couldn't have been happier with the result! Clara and Kent were very helpful and ensured everything went off without a hitch. Sophie tended to my group and made sure we got everything we needed. Food and drinks were great too. I would highly recommend Morrissey's to anyone looking to host a group event in Uptown!

Google
Great place. Space is well layed-out- you can find a perfect spot if you're by yourself, on a date, with a group of 6 friends, or just crowding around the bar. Got your standard Harp/Smithwick/Guiness combined with local crafts and domestics. Some great cocktails and a *solid* whiskey/bourbon/rye selection. Vibe is friendly, chill, inclusive. Can't imagine anyone would ever feel unwelcome here. And the food... You're as likely to need an uber home from food coma as from drinking. Had a "light" brunch of a few slices white and black pudding, with a side of soda bread, and I need a nap.

I loved visiting this pub! My husband and I were out in Minneapolis for a date night and we chose Morrissey’s for our first stop to grab food. We just did appetizers and drinks. It was all delicious and the drinks we wanted were all on tap! Very important. The egg rolls, full sized fried pickles, and pretzels with queso were awesome. They were also doing trivia night and that was a lot of fun! I would highly recommend and would love to go back.

Had a wonderful and welcome atmosphere and I loved hearing about their past events where they contributed back to the community. Food and drinks were certainly a highlight though, very tasty and creative.

We went during the day and played darts. It was super chill. Went back at night for karaoke and you could tell the place definitely has regularly for karaoke.

Google
A very beautiful place. Has an amazing atmosphere with delicious food. Very nicely prepare in a very timely manner. Our service was amazing with the server coming at all the appropriate times. Highly recommend the salmon omelette and the banana whiskey foster! Very delightful experience.

Great place! Great bartender (the guy) good food. Excellent atmosphere... It Was my first time there. Definitely hope to visit again.

Google
Employees and vendors block alleyway making it impossible for residents to get home. Would not recommend a business that doesn’t respect the neighborhood they’re in. Person blocking alleyway directly identified themself as a vendor of Morrissey’s and an employee confirmed this.

Yelp
Fun place to grab a drink and a quick bite. Service was very fast and drinks were reasonably priced. The food was a little expensive for just typical bar food, but the sandwiches there are decent. They have fun activities there throughout the week like trivia, and open mic sessions. Overall, I had a good time going here and would come back for a drink :)

Yelp
Standard quality bar/pub located in the Uptown neighborhood. I went on a Saturday night, it was what you'd expect. There was karaoke going on which was fun, I got to sing a song. It was pretty popular though so just be prepared it may be a wait to get to your turn. Pretty good craft beer list. I think they also had a side room for private events. Overall I had a good time, I'm glad I got to check it out.

Yelp
Fish and chips were delicious. I'm normally not a fan of tartar sauce, but ended up really enjoying their house made sauce. The service has also been great during my multiple visits and I plan on going back soon.

Yelp
It is becoming my Wednesday Trivia favorite spot. Host on Wednesday Trivia seems very much enjoying to have companies and makes Trivia night in very good atmosphere. Each booth sit up to 6 people comfortably. Wide range of whiskey menu (Irish, Scottish, American, Canadian, and Japanese). Nothing extraordinary in the food menu but surprisingly they offer Poutine as starter. If you don't mind smear with beef gravy over the totsn' fries with corn beef on top! It was pretty good. Fish and Chips comes with delicious tartar sauce as side (perhaps dill infused?). You can probably ask for malt and vinegar if you are not wild about tartar sauce. Servers are very friendly and chatty that makes you feel very welcomed. They also have a coin operated dart machine but not sure it's working. Trivia night starting 7 pm on Wednesdays. They also hold a Movie trivia night on Thursdays if you are moviegoers!

Yelp
First time at Morrissey's and it was a blast. Service was spot on, even with a party of ten. Our waiter was awesome as well. While taking our orders she wasn't writing anything down, which had me worried. I always take note of that when going out and there will be two outcomes from this, the waiter will just bomb and mess the entire order up or, in this case, prove her awesomeness! The Whiskey Notes: A highlight of the night was the amazing whiskey list. So happy we came during the right time of year when Morrissey received they annual allotment of just ONE bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year whiskey!! One a half ounce pour was $28 but was worth it. Even though the Old Rip Van Winkle was 107 proof you wouldn't be able to tell, it was super smooth, being aged for ten years. Side note, this whiskey is from the same distillery as the very rare Pappy Van Winkle, which is just as expensive and also very good. You can find Pappys more readily at pubs in Chicago, which has a bigger whiskey scene then Minneapolis. Another very unique whiskey was the Jameson on tap, that's right you heard me correct "whiskey on tap", crazy right?!! It was very good and had a distinct flavor to it, I'll be back to try it again. It was for $8 a ounce. One other whiskey we would like to try next time is the Jameson "Red Spot", I think aged for 15 years. Grub review: Definitely pub style food. Not upscale but not too greasy either. The chicken strips had good flavor and we ordered on the side, ranch and buffalo sauce, which is a must have for strips in my opinion. Fries were perfectly crispy too. Fish and chips were good. The fish could have used some salt and vinegar to drizzle on. One very unique dish was the curry fries. Basically they were a plate of fries with curry gravy, very delicious. The Karaoke was most entertaining, that is watching other people sing. It seemed three of the people that sang were regulars and took turns on the stage. Side bar- I wonder what they think they sound like in their own minds? haha.

Yelp

Yelp
We decided to come here on a Saturday night where we knew we could be seated fairly quickly and still have our own corner of the room. This was my first time and it was a good middle of the road pub, an average fish and chips dinner, good music that was all things 70s to today and later in the evening they had karaoke which was entertaining to listen to (I'm more of a minimum three-shot tequila girl before I put my request in!) Our waitress was efficient and we were served our meal fast, party of ten notwithstanding. Overall, there's other pubs in the Twin Cities I prefer, but for a local hangout, quick service, decent menu and good drinks (with Jameson Irish Whiskey on tap!) this is the place to come!

Yelp
Morrissey's just reopened after a long hiatus due to the Rona. Not having an expanded patio or much of an outdoor dining option, I was quite concerned that my favorite Twin Cities Irish Pub would be gone for good. Needless to say I stopped wringing my hands when I saw the announcement a few days ago that they'd be opening for indoor dining under new tightened safety guidelines. They've gone so far as to take temperatures at the door which I really appreciate. I've been apprehensive about eating indoors at restaurants still. But they're doing safety and sanitation right. Bellying up to the bar has always been my preference there, but currently they are table service only. This is quite alright--the origins of the "Bar" at an Irish Pub was never for guests to sit at, but customary for members of a group to buy rounds at the bar and then sequester to their tables or "snugs". Look it up. But I digress... Morrissey's continues to have the largest whiskey selection out of all Twin Cities pubs (as far as I know) and their food is the most authentic I've tried outside of the Emerald Isle. Their menu runs the gamut from traditional boxty to fish and chips. Loving Irish dishes, but a burger freak, my favorite menu item is the Belfast Burger--aged white cheddar, rashers, and spicy house-made aioli. Pair with a Smithwick's and you'll be a happy lad or lass. They have new hours of operation so be sure to check their website before visiting. Sláinte!

Yelp
I requested Morrisseys cater a family event. The food was displayed beautifully and everyone said how delicious it was. The corned beef and mashed potatoes were delightful and kept hot thru the meal. The pork sliders were a hit, and well loved as well. I highly recommend Morrisseys food for dine in,take out or cater. The staff is just wonderful, helpful and professional.

Yelp
Love the food and music! Takes me right back to a pub in Ireland.

Yelp
The atmosphere at Morrissey's is very relaxed. I've noticed the few times that I've been here that it's generally a "seat yourself" type of situation once you walk in the door. There's a good amount of booths and tables to select. I tend to enjoy the comfort and spaciousness of a booth. On my most recent visit in, it took awhile to get service. It seemed like there weren't that many servers at the time, which was a bit unfortunate, but it was fine. Patience is a virtue! It gave us time to relax and take in the bar sights. Nothing too exciting happened, since it was early in the evening, but the environment was fun nonetheless. I opted for the Irish cheddar burger and wasn't disappointed. The burger was bold and juicy, and cooked to my liking. It had a lot of flavor with the cheese being a perfect compliment to the patty. Plated next to the burger were some delicious fries that had a great salt to pepper ratio. The cut of potato was good as well. While Morrissey's isn't a place that I would go every week, it's definitely somewhere that I continue to return to every so often. It's a particularly interesting place to be on St. Patricks's Day. It's a great spot to grab a drink and some pub food with others.

Yelp
While the interior is pretty cool, the food is mediocre, and more American than Irish. The burgers are good, but the sides are a choice of fries, tots or coleslaw, hardly Irish or particularly interesting. They have good beers here, but again, nothing particularly Irish about them, and the service is low energy. But I really like the cool fans that are driven by a belt system.

Yelp
Warning very long review! After watching a Youtube video about full English breakfasts I got really interested and want to get me a plate full of that good food. I read online from Yelp that this place serves up one of the most authentic Full Breakfasts in town. So being me I decided to drive over to Minneapolis, find me a nice spot on the street and go check out this Irish Pub. Upon entry I really enjoyed the decor and atmosphere. Feels like a good place to just chill and enjoy some drinks and good food. I seated myself and in no time the bartender waitress came over and handed me a menu. I looked around to see what they had but I already had my mind set on the Irish Breakfast. I decided that since I am in an Irish Pub about to have a Full Irish Breakfast I might as well order an Irish Coffee as well. The Irish Coffee was to my liking, it had a little spice to it given off by the Whiskey I believe. Powers is the Whiskey of choice here which is great for me since I like Powers. Now when my plate of food came to me my face was lit up with joy. I dipped my toast into that perfectly runny egg yolk (got my eggs sunny side up) and took a bite gleefully. The beans were just like baked beans from a can. But in this case we have Heinz Baked Beans which isn't a bad thing because from what I read that is classically what was used. Mushrooms were good, not overdone so the texture was soft and flavorful. A bright red tomato sticks out on the plate and goes well eaten with any of the other components on the plate. The chips (fries) were ok, not my favorite fries but they get the job done and not terrible but they go great dipped in the Heinz Beans. The Bangers (sausages) were yummy, definitely better than most breakfast sausages out there. This place has converted me over to Rash (Back Bacon). From what I read Back Bacon is the preferred bacon of choice back in the UK and I can see why, I feel it is much more flavorful, not too salty, not too fatty and I like the texture over the usual crispy brittle bacon. My personal favorite and newly discovered component on this plate was the Black and White Pudding. Both were very flavorful with seasoning and that helps to cover the organ blood flavor that would scare off people new to these kinds of foods. I enjoyed my breakfast here very much and can definitely call this The Breakfast of Champions! And I mean that after eating here I went straight to the gym and worked out for 3 hours!

Yelp
I've been here several times. I originally clicked 3 stars but I immediately felt my stomach sink, like when I lied to my sweet grandmother for the first time, RIP. The staff needs to loosen up a bit. Why so serious Morrissey? Smile. The place is nicely decorated and the food I've never ordered looks good but maybe the beer munchies makes everything look good. I just generally don't feel welcome here.

Jeremy P.

Yelp
Belfast Burger was perfect, it hit the spot with a couple of Jasmine and Ginger ales.

Yelp
We were hoping for something outstanding and it was "good". We had Shepherds Pie, side salads, potato soup and Pinot Grigio. Wine selection limited, but it's an Irish pub!! If we were in the area again, we'd probably keep looking. To be fair, husband tries and compares Shepherds Pie in every Irish Pub we find (including overseas). Service was friendly and helpful - Danielle was good. Food was pretty slow for what we got.

Yelp
Walked in here at 10 a.m. hungover as all get up. The bartender might as well have been a doctor to us 7 guys realizing we were on a bachelor party weekend. Poured me a Guinness and ordered the steak and eggs. For like $10 I had a better steak that many steak houses. The conversation, atmosphere, decor, beer, food, and service was spectacular. I will definitely be back. I wish there was a Morrissey's in Green Bay. I'd never leave.
google avatar

Joanne H.

Yelp
Fish n chips were pretty good; the fish batter was excellent- light and crispy. There should have been more chips on the plate. The mushy peas resembled a thick smooth paste vs mushy peas.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
I love this place. The bartenders here are some seriously fantastic people and they all pour a mean Guinness! They have a solid happy hour and that always includes an actually decent rail Irish Whiskey on hand. Food is nothing fancy, but solid. Love the fish and chips or fish sandwich, for sure!

Yelp
This place has grown on me and being a few blocks away make it a quick and easy place to get to.. thier service is good and have a huge irish whisky and beer selection . The food portions are generous and i have had almost every burger on the menu and have never been disappointed. The staff is incredibly nice and the bar staff are knowledgeable. This place is great for people watching and filled with collage kids.. some nights it has lots of ladies and creepy old guys checking out the scenery. I give this place a solid 5 stars and i have enjoyed all my visits

Yelp
Morrisey's is a comfortable Irish pub in Minneapolis's south side on Lake Street. Situated between Uptown and Lyn-Lake neighborhoods. We went on a Saturday evening (7:00) and it wasn't too crowded. I know they had music starting later at 9:30. My wife and I both had what I would call the "basics" - fish and chips - although there's quite a few other items on the menu. I had a Guinness and she tried one of their takes on an Old Fashioned that used brandy instead of whiskey. I'm not sure that she was convinced on the drink. Our waiter was a young Irish man who had only been in Minneapolis for a couple of weeks. Very friendly guy and attentive server. The food and drink was very good, the service was great, and the place was very comfortable.

Yelp
Morrissey's feels like your typical Irish pub with dark walls, Guinness signs on the walls, and sports playing in the background (and The Office... I'm not complaining.) Each time we've gone, the service has been great and the staff is really very friendly. The first time we went, we ordered pies for dinner which were delicious and full of flavor. The Irish breakfast is also delightful and truly hits the spot on a cold, rainy Sunday morning. I especially love how they have the option to build your own Irish breakfast - and at an affordable price, too. The space is large (but I've never seen it overly packed) and there's darts in the back room. Is it the best Irish pub I've ever been to? Maybe not - but I still strongly recommend and do plan on being back!

McKenna L.

Yelp
This place is just plain awful. Horrible food and horrible service. We made a reservation on Sunday for WEDNESDAY and when we arrived there was a line, so I went to go check us in for our reservation, and I was told to "get outside" as it is COVID, and there were too many people. I have never been spoken to so degrading by a man in my life. It was disgraceful. I said "so it doesn't matter if we have a reservation. We can't at least check in?" He repeated to me to get outside and said everyone in line had a reservation. I was just trying to check-in. It was TERRIBLE.

Yelp
I've been looking all over for a Full English or Full Irish breakfast. Finally had a chance to try the Irish Breakfast at Morrissey's. The atmosphere on a weekday afternoon was restrained, but the interior is very pleasant. "Irish-Pub-Chic", basically. I ordered the Irish Breakfast, and was absolutely not disappointed. A Full English usually doesn't include chips, but otherwise it was the same as this UK favorite. It comes with two eggs (I had mine medium, though next time it'll be sunny-side up), a rasher, two bangers, a slice each of black and white pudding, beans, potato bread toast, a stewed tomato and mushrooms. I was kind of hoping for whole button mushrooms, but these were sliced fine, though still delicious. Everything was great. The black pudding in particular was a standout. This was the most flavorfully spiced black pudding I've ever had, as was the white pudding. I almost suspect that they buy Polish or German blood sausage, since the British Isles versions I've had are usually fairly bland. The bangers were perfectly cooked - just a little crispy on the outside. My son ordered the Reuben sandwich, which comes open-faced on a single large slice of rye. It was just smothered in sauce and cheese, and he rolled his eyes when he took the first bite, it was so good. I was too full to try it. If the other menu items (mostly traditional Irish & English pub food) are anything like the quality of these two, it definitely warrants five stars. Really a first-class experience. Even though it's across town, I'll be back, and soon!

Yelp
Do not order a salad. The lettuce was so soggy it looked like it had been boiled. Stick with pub food. Burgers, tots....
google avatar

Benjamin A.

Yelp
This is my first time being here. It has a nice Irish decor that works very well. The wait staff was very friendly on what they would recommend to eat as well as drink. I had the signature rueben. What else are you going to try when you go to an Irish bar? The rueben was open faced and had plenty of corned beef on it. There were plenty of sides to choose from, I ended up going with the fries which wasn't on the menu. So if you want fries just ask! As for drinks...heh I had a good amount. I tried a few different beers from the multiple ones they had on tap. One drink I did have was the Powers Whiskey. Apparently they are the number one seller of it in America or something. The waitress described it to me like this: in Ireland the young guys drink Jameson where the older more experienced guys drink Powers. To be honest it was very good. So overall I give them a rating of 4 stars. I will be going back, that is for sure.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice uptown atmosphere. Good snacks but we didn't have a meal. Super nice server. Recommended.
google avatar

Shawn S.

Yelp
Morrissey's has a lot of potential. The decor is great, tap beer selection top notch, and pricing isn't bad. They have TVs and when I was there were showing 3 different events. They pipe in modern Irish music aka Flogging Molly, which is great. The table service needs to pick it up - I eventually started just walking up to the bar because it was to the point that I needed to order my next one when the waiter dropped off the last one (not exaggerating). I had the fish and chips - which were well made but there was a bit of excess grease that soaked the fries underneath the fish. Park on the street. Uptown finally has a true pub!
google avatar

Colin O.

Yelp
Solid customer service, solid atmosphere and a very dedicated staff! (Cleaned up right away after a "to much Guinness" night) stocking to the Irish pub feel.
google avatar

G. C.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite local Irish pubs, my husband and I frequent since it opened. We like the Guinness, food, and friendly, attentive service. Keep up the good work!
google avatar

Adam F.

Yelp
Our server Taylyr was super nice and friendly AND she checked in on us from time to time which seems like a lost art form in restaurants today. Not here. Good atmosphere combining the Irish theme with an Uptown flair. Nice selections on the menu without overwhelming us. I had the corned beef and my wife had the bangers and mash. We both got mashed potatoes which had some hints of green in there - good touch. Her bangers were great and she had mushy peas (first time for me) that were a fun add to her plate. My corned beef was sliced up like you would see on a brisket; very tender and tasty. We were there for dinner, but it looks like they have a nice happy hour too with realistic times.

Yelp
I'm going to give this five stars on one visit. I ducked in for a quick lunch. Was tempted by the Soup of the day (a Guiness onion soup) but was only hungry enough for their Reuben. The Reuben was okay (nice proportion of sauerkraut to corned beef, but lacked Russian dressing) but was very pleased that I could get a salad instead of fries. Much of the menu looked good, and I'll have to go back to sample some of their other dishes. And maybe even have a drink. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. Coffee was good and fresh. What tips this place up to five stars was the music selection. A nice range of boomer cuts and covers of familiar songs and a few I didn't recognize. Wasn't trying to be hip or loud; a good lunch ambience.

Yelp
Morrissey's Chipotle Dry Rub wings are my new favorite thing. I'm normally more of a saucy wing gal but the spicy chipotle rub, crisp skin and juicy, perfectly cooked chicken have converted me. I am powerless to order them whenever I'm here. I want them in my mouth right now. I like to pair them with a Hoprita, a unique drink made with Sweet Child of Vine and white whisky. Sort of a masculine play on the Margarita. I could drink those delicious (and strong!) cocktails all evening. The Irish Cheese Dip and Wedges are also worth a try (yummy, cheesy goodness), as are the Fish and Chips (light and crispy breaded cod fillets paired with delicious fries). Unfortunately I can't speak to their other food offerings as the wings are located near the top of the menu and my eyes refuse to wander elsewhere.
google avatar

Monte A.

Yelp
Not the best beer selection in the world but you know it's an Irish bar cool Irish bar really Kick-Ass spicy mustard I mean anything you can get with that spicy mustard is really good the rest of the food is just meh

Yelp
This is a hip place to grab a few drinks with some friends and catch up. The atmosphere is your typical Irish pub but add some trendiness. The booths are cozy and it's dimly lit. They have a decent happy hour on drinks from 4-7 along with some food specials. (Be careful though because the tap beers listed on the beer tent aren't entirely accurate). If you're a whiskey lover, this place is your heaven!! They have so many different brands and types to try.... Who knew whiskey came in so many different "flavors"! I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of different foods the menu had to offer. I decided on the chicken salad wrap with French fries and didn't have a single regret. The fries were crispy, perfectly seasoned and delicious. The wrap was fresh and tasteful. We most recently stopped in on a Tuesday and came to learn that they do "Dj" trivia every Tuesday! That was a fun, pleasant surprise which led our entire party to have a couple more drinks than planned. The only reason I'm giving four stars is due to the service we received. Our waitress was not friendly at all and seemed like she didn't want to be there. She also declined to inform us of the happy hour, I ordered a Blue Moon (which is on the beer tent alongside all the other tap beers) and found out when my check came that it wasn't on happy hour since it's the beer of the month. So okay it was only two dollars more without the happy hour deal but I would have liked to have been made aware. It happens! I have a strong feeling I'll be frequenting this pub fairly often while living in uptown!

Sheila C.

Yelp
The Wee Fish and Corned Beef rolls were super good. Our server was more interested in the regulars than us. What type of music are they playing????? Not Irish and on a Saturday night? What the heck? Coming back for food and going to see if they play some Irish music for such a great Irish bar wanna be! Wait just ordered a Baileys on the rocks and it was half full!! Come on!!
google avatar

Yelp
Nothing compares to Morrissey's. I love this place. They have some incredible food, and the staff are so friendly and professional. I don't drink often, and this place feels very comfortable to me. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Morrissey's is my go-to place for a late night beer. They have a good beer selection and usually there is a band playing. I love the live music! It is a small quaint place that's a nice hangout with friends. Their bartenders and servers are nice and give quick service. I haven't eaten here before, but I have friends that have gotten the burgers, and they look delicious. PS They also redid the bathrooms, so no more awkward line in the hallway next to the band.
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
Walked over here since it's close to a friends apartment. The live music was playing and the drinks were flowing! Didn't try much of the menu - just Guinness, Surly, and the Corned Beef roll appetizers. The place itself was neat and clean, but filled to capacity. Somehow though the bathroom lines were pretty short and the facilities were clean. The band played celtic music as well as some more traditional songs. The appetizer was very good - we even ordered a second plate of them. Very good corned beef, with a nice amount of meat in the rolls. Quite a few of them on the plate too. If they served them with a side of mashed potatoes or veggies you could call it a meal. Had a fun time here. Prices were reasonable for the drinks and the food. Festive atmosphere, and live Irish music. If that's what you're down for, you'll probably have a great time!

Yelp
I'm a regular at this establishment and have developed some great friendships with patrons and staff alike. Amazing place for food, solid Irish dishes with a highly knowledgeable staff in regards to alcohol. It's always comfortable being there and really is a staple in the uptown area. Now, in reference to the review left by one Ryan H. I was actually there that night you chose to try and coin the phrase "Big Red" for one of the bartenders. Karma is alive and well and I expect will be paying you a visit for your behavior that night. Personally watched you make a fool of yourself yelling at the server trying to deliver food to your own table and complain about your "weak" Jameson Ginger. If you want to taste the whiskey properly, drink it neat like you're suppose to. If you want an over poured cocktail go to Bar Louie and mingle with your own breed. The bartender (her name is Cazz by the way, lovely woman) pouring your drinks has been in the industry for YEARS and knows how to pour a proper drink. May need to revaluate your own method of counting....sir. It seemed you were making the women you were with nervous and uncomfortable with your behavior as well. In fact they apologized for you afterwards. Treat the staff with respect, and maybe you won't sabotage your own night and what I can only guess to be a date you clearly were over compensating on. All in all thank you for visiting a GREAT establishment and reminding all of us in there that life isn't that bad and there are always going to be disrespectful and pretentious try hards out there to make us all look better. Long live Morrissey's.

Yelp
Went on a whim last night and it was the best decision I've made in a while. In all honesty, my husband and I pretty much despise every new bar that has opened in our Uptown neighborhood over the past few years for reasons involving snooty clientele, expensive overrated food, and, well, hipsters. I never would have thought I was in Uptown in this place. The food is amazing and priced accordingly. I'm so excited I've been drooling thinking about their corned beef rolls. Might go back tonight! Our first server was very welcoming and enthusiastic, the late night server was mediocre, but still managed to help us. The live music was an added bonus as well. Just hope this place stays hidden from the Uptown Hipster crowd.

Yelp
My favorite pub in uptown. They have live music nightly and the first time I ever came here, there happened to be several Irish patrons just hanging out that had a jam session. They were not scheduled talent and had never played together but they were amazing! Ok and now I'm realizing I could have been the most gullible person there? Who knows, regardless... I love this place. Drinks are stiff, service is amazing and the food is awesome too! I usually get the Dublin chicken but the beef stew is just like my mom used to make. My bf and everyone I have brought here loves this place. They have a great sense of humor.,.. There used to be a cross stitched sign that read "please don't do coke in the bathroom" it was hilarious.... Even better.... Someone stole the sign and in it's place is an empty frame and written in sharpie is a note saying.... "See, this is why we can't have nice things" The whole thing cracks me up, everyone is nice friendly and down to earth. No pretentiousness just a few people hanging out having some beers:) love it!

Yelp
First time at Morrissey's and probably last time. Not because it was terrible, just because I hate Uptown's shitty parking and only bother with it if something's new and/or exceptional. Looks quite nice inside, open and amiable. Not sure what people mean when they say it "feels like a real Irish pub" because like most American "Irish" pubs, it's nothing of the sort! Keegan's gives off a decent pseudo-Irish vibe, but this place is pretty American in all aspects. Our server was nice, small girl with long platinum blonde hair and a good personality. Makes a ton of difference not to be served by some surly fool who brings outside baggage or apathetic affectations [literally] to the table. But no, she was good. Being a Scotsman, I was only ever going to have the fish and chips, and when I saw black pudding on the menu, I was like fuck yeah! I asked for a piece on the side, along with some curry sauce for my chips. I have good memories of late night chips in curry sauce in my youth, and the last time I saw this on a menu was 2005 in Winnipeg (the only thing good about that trip to hell). The meal itself, in all aspects was truly underwhelming, though. The black pudding I was so excited by turned out to be really tasteless and extremely greasy. The fish portion of the fish and chips - I'm not sure what kind of fish it was (probably cod) was cooked well, but retained a LOT of the oil it was fried in, which was pretty unappetizing once I got to the last few bites. The curry sauce was okay, but too fruity to make me want to take the unused portion home. We got beer, but it wasn't too cold ( a real turn off), and the glass I poured it into (canned beer sucks) wasn't cold either. If you live in uptown or don't mind the parking, I'd say Morrissey's is probably worth a first trip. As it is, I've had better food and colder beer.

Yelp
This place blows goatskin. Drinks are overpriced and the bartenders are always DB's. I thought a Irish pub was supposed to be fun, not here. It's a serious Irish pub with uptight bartenders and uptight staff. Way to ruin the fun Morrissey's. Also $8 Guinness?? Wtf

Yelp
Morrissey's is an all-round good time, whether you just want to watch a game and drink, hear some live music, or play some trivia. I've seen the bar pretty empty at times (which I'm a fan of for selfish reasons), and I've also seen it packed with people out for a good time. The bartenders and wait staff are very nice. Good service even when it's crowded. Their boxtydillas are amazing and the bloodymarys are some of the best I've had in Uptown. I experienced St. Patty's day there this year and it was the most fun I've had since moving to Minneapolis 6 months ago.

Yelp
The atmosphere here is very family friendly but also a fun place to go get drinks with friends on a Friday night! The food is AMAZING and the service is also great! I definitely recommend trying this place out if you haven't yet!

Yelp
Finally! A great concept that actually has a solid chance of making it, at what seems like a cursed location. For the last three years, I have watched this place change names/hands three times - the Favor Cafe, Los Lagos, and Viva Brazil. What makes this place so different??? Well, they actually did more than just a fresh coat of paint. The interior is completely redesigned and refreshed inline with the concept of the venue - an irish pub. And they opened just ahead of a major Irish/American holiday, in an area that had an underrepresentation of Irishness - Uptown. Walking up, the place was packed. I think there might have been more people in the place than visited Los Lagos and Viva Brazil combined in their lifetime. Inside is open, bright and very much like a pub with exposed wood and no frills. There is even a stage at the far corner, which is blocked by the line to the bathrooms, that I suspect could host a band. Oh the bathrooms. Honestly, the only reason this place lost a star. As a woman, I am used to standing in line for a bathroom. But when I have to share that line with men, complaining about the number of "holes" in the men's restroom, and then trying to avert my eyes because they decide to share the facility and not to shut the door...I know it is bad. Not to mention the language discrepancy - Lads and Ladies. Both plural terms for singular accomodations...and if we wanted to stay authentic yet ignore the number, it should be "Lassies". Definitely some confusion and room for improvement here. Otherwise, my first visit was a great one - they have a great selection of tap beers and a full bar. I saw a few people eating, but did not yet have an opportunity to try the food. The space is great, open and fresh - with great wood in the ceiling and exposed brick throughout. Plenty of tables for groups and a great bar to hang by. You really do get a pub feel with the added bonus of great windows to keep tabs on the Lake Street traffic. I'm excited for this new addition and really believe that it has the staying power that the others were lacking. Good luck Morrissey's - I know I will be back and encourage others to check it out as well.

Yelp
Had an extraordinary time at Morrissey's last evening! It was my first time there, my sister had been before and highly recommended it so my expectations were high, and I'm glad to say I was not disappointed. The drinks were affordable, with an ample selection of beer and liquor as well as some very tasty appetizers we sampled. The service was top-notch, with pleasant and attentive bartenders who also happened to be great looking which never hurts.. :D We also had the opportunity to hob-nob a little with two of the bar's proprietors who proved to be charming, affable gentleman, and I'm sure their management style plays a large part in the bar's relaxed, fun-loving atmosphere. The place filled up quickly but was never packed to the point of discomfort, with a diverse crowd predominantly composed of hip, attractive twenty-somethings but also a liberal smattering of baby-boomers and seniors rounding things out nicely. I live in Los Angeles so sadly it's going to be a little while before I can return, but I am most definitely planning on patronizing this fine establishment the next time I am in town! For those lucky enough to live in the area I can't recommend frequenting Morrisey's highly enough, I would be absolutely shocked if you did not have positively exemplary experiences every time!

Yelp
I'm excited for an Irish Pub in Uptown. I went in on their second night and it wasn't too bad. It definitely has potential, but needs to work out a few kinks. 1) It's a little small, or felt like it anyway. All seating/bar area was taken and there wasn't a good area to just stand with your beers. You always felt like you were in the way. 2) I like the ambiance. The decor is nice. They had live music when we were there. However, they didn't turn on any background music when the band took a break, which was awkward. 3) The service was good, but needs time to work some things out. We just went to the bar, but the table we were near had ordered Irish Car Bombs. They dropped the shot in before bringing it to their table (so it was curdling). Not such a great move for the staff of an Irish bar. But, they apologized and admitted they made a mistake. The patrons, however, were complaining loud and obnoxiously even after the waitress comped the drinks, so that was annoying. 4) The food looked/smelled really good. I'd go back, but it was ambitious to open St. Patty's weekend. Once they get their sea legs, I think it will be a nice addition to Uptown.
