‘Department Q’ Locations: The Surprising Edinburgh Filming Spots Behind Netflix’s New Tartan Noir

Standing in for a Christian centre where Morck tracks down the now-retired detective from the original Merritt Lingard investigation, this 1960s crematorium designed by Scottish architect Basil Spence is praised for its fantastic stained glass windows and really interesting, unique look, making it a standout location in the series. - Phil de Semlyen

Today I conducted a funeral service at Mortonhall Crematorium and I cannot praise Rick highly enough for his caring for and attention given to my wife and me. Coming from the West of Scotland I was unfamiliar with this Crematorium so we arrived very early and were welcomed by Rick in the most friendly manner. And my thanks too to Susan who carefully guided me through the Mortonhall ‘procedure’. And added to this were the general kindnesses shown by other members of the CrematoriumTeam. This is clearly a Crematorium served by the very best of staff and are deserving of high praise.

My mother in law was sadly laid to rest at mortonhall on the 9th October. And the service was a good reflection on her life The only fly in the ointment was when friend of mum's arrived Late accompanied by on site gardeners using a leaf blower outside the open door.. this should not be happening near an on going service . The celebrant had to apologize for being drowned out. Overall was good service But interruption should have been avoided...

I checked the opening hours on the website before traveling 1 and a half hours only to get there and it was closed. This was a very important day for me to be able to visit my daughter's grave. It made an already difficult day even more upsetting 😭 please please state on your website the proper opening hours. A very sad day for us.

Please provide more car parking. On the day of my visit, there was a big tailback of cars and a continuous loop of cars hunting for a space. Please bear in mind some mourners may already be upset and don't need this added strain.

I can’t remember their names but 2 members of the ground staff were clearing leaves from the baby garden corner. I was expecting family members to visit 4/11/2021 around 3pm. I asked them if they could move a large pile of leaves to allow the visitors to get to the plaques. They dropped everything and spent 20 minutes clearing the whole area for them. Two of the nicest men you could wish to meet and a credit to Mortonhall. Thank you guys.

At a friend's funeral and used the small Chapel too many people and as a result many unfortunately had to stand outside due to covid restrictions so service was piped outside for those who couldn't get in. Wish the celebrant had asked if any of those outside were family members so those there as friends could have perhaps swapped to allow them inside. Otherwise a good service.

Morton hall is in a lovely setting and is well designed and run, catering for all types of service. However the Pentland Chapel is small and for those standing outside they need to ensure the speakers are working, also might be an idea to build a covered porch to protect those standing from the elements.

It's never too late to offer thanks and appreciation ! My mum, sadly passed in mid 2018, ( Jemima Le Grice ) and it really hit me, with so much sadness ! I was reflecting on, what was a truly beautiful and touching ceremony, held in your Pentland Chapel. I reflect every day !! Belated thanks to you all for what you did so lovely. My father Alexander Thompson Le Grice and my sister Christine Le Grice (nee Cruickshank ), also were put to rest, with you, in the same chapel. My heartfelt thank you, to you all. Sadness is all around, but Mortonhall , also has so much peace and beauty. I remain, Your's faithfully, Alex J.Le Grice ( son and brother )
