Gwar Will Destroy Drink Company’s ‘Rick and Morty’ Pop-Up | Eater DC

"After being shut down over a copyright dispute, the pop-up’s 'Rick & Morty' artwork is slated for destruction at Turner Broadcasting’s behest; I was told Drink Company’s Derek Brown revealed that members of shock rock band Gwar will come in on Thursday, September 6 to kick things around and lay waste to the 'Rick & Morty' art." - Adele Chapin

Server was super friendly and very attentive without going overboard. Greatly appreciated. Fish and chips is a serious portion - same for the fries and poutine. Next time is will try the wings for sure!!

Google
The food is good here, the wings are good, the onion rings are huge, but there are some things you need to know going in. 1. The wings are just wings and nothing more. If you want fries or veggies with them, that's extra. A little cup of mayo to dip your fries in? An extra $1.29. I know it's not a lot, but charging for what is basically 2 tablespoons of mayo is nickel and diming. 2. Although it's mentioned several times on the menu (Buffalo sauced chicken tenders, Buffalo chicken wrap, etc.), they don't actually serve Buffalo sauce. They have their own mild, medium and hot sauces, but they are more BBQ than Buffalo. As I said, the food is decent, unfortunately we were in the mood for Buffalo wings, so we were disappointed.

Google
Let me start by saying we ordered the wings. We ordered too much. Didn't realize the wings would be so large. If you like plump wings, you'll like this place. I don't, I like the slim wings. Putting that aside, the wings were tasty, just not my style. The wife liked them. Had the onion rings too, good hot, but left an oily after-taste when cold.

Venkat K.

Google
If you like a old school PUB (non templated and non franchisee model), this is among the few still operating. Good beer and big size wings. On the tap i think there are one or two popular beers that are not available, but only in cans or bottles. Sometimes the parking can be tight and we need to park on nearby streets. For small gatherings or private events of approx 30-35 people the basement is a great place.

Google
In a world filled with angst and turmoil, Morty's serves as a bastion of warmth and deliciousness. The wings are big. The wings are battered. The wings are served hot. The Wet Cajun is as sloppy as a drunk pastor on Sunday - and hits every time. Undecided on sauce? Go for the dry Salt & Pepper with a couple of side dips. It's happiness with options. Wait staff are always friendly.

Google
Stopped to grab some food before our sons football game. SO THANKFUL we landed at such an awesome spot. The food was amazing we had the wings ( INSANE ) the Santa Fe Salad ( UNREAL and SO BIG) The staff were amazing as we were in a rush and our Server Kuira was prompt, helpful and so wonderful!! The DRINKS !! WOW A picture worthy Caesar and an AMAZING Peach Sangria ! The cherry on the cake was the absolute reasonable prices! All this while we rocked the wrong shade of purple! Thanks for the awesome experience but....Go Mustangs 💜

Google
Me and my friends went there on Tuesday night. It was busy but the restaurant has a plenty of spaces. They serve different beer and cocktails. We ordered the family size of wings with four different tastes: butter hot, sweet Thai chai, chipotle honey mustard and dry cajun with a basket of fries. My favorite was sweet Thai chai and dry cajun because the other two flavors were a little spicy for me. The amount of the dish was so great for all of us. There were 18 wings in the meal. The service was good enough.

Edward S.

Google
Great service and great wings ( to be fair, that is all I ordered). They also had near beer options which was great after a road minor hockey game.

Jayden T.

Yelp
Finally got around to trying this iconic spot and do not regret it. The wings are definitely the best item on the menu and there are a variety of flavours. Biggest wings I've seen from a restaurant and well worth the money. The spinach dip was pretty good but nothing out of the ordinary. Would come back for sure.

Yelp
MORTYSSSSS This was the place to go for wings night during the uni days. They used to have wings deals where the pricing was per wing. Recently we stopped by so it was a regular night and were seated quickly. We ordered one six wings and got honey garlic flavour and one 12 wings and got to pick two flavours (honey garlic and bbq). Their dry Cajun is pretty good too if you prefer dry over saucy wings. They came out relatively quickly and were juicy and perfectly crunch and drenched in just the right amount of sauce. If in Waterloo, Mortys is a must! -1 star because the price increase is just a little steep. Definitely can't come here very night.

adam g.

Yelp
Very nice people here and nice bar but food is very low quality. I got a steak sandwich and the meat was very disgusting as shown in the photo. It was very chewy and unpleasant to eat. It didn't taste like it was grilled like a proper steak should be.
google avatar

Yelp
(Delivery order) - Chicken Chunks (Dry Cajun): I hadn't realized that the seasoning was on the side. It didn't really stick well to the chicken. - Warm Spinach and Artichoke Dip - Traditional Poutine Everything was decent; nothing was remarkable.

Yelp
Came here for the first time since Covid and their setup is reassuring. They've turned the parking lot into a patio, and tables are distanced more than 6 feet. Each table also has hand sanitizer and all staff were wearing mask. The menu was posted on the wall, but a bit difficult to seem from where we were sitting It was surprisingly comfortable on the patio. As usual, the wings were huuge and yummy :) However, there were no drink specials. Overall, a relaxing spot!

Yelp
Jan 17/20: Cool pub in the middle of Waterloo. Decent free parking available at the pub. Just had a beer & some chicken nuggets. They were a small order & you could tell they were NOT house made. Beer was cold & the service was good. One thing I did notice is the table beside us ordered wings & the wings were huge! Might go again if I'm in the area but I'd order the wings!
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome pub that has been around for decades if not more! I always like coming here for their huge wings! They have tasty flavors and delicious breading which soaks you the saucy sauces! My favorites are the dry Cajun wings! They're super tasty and I love how they smother and cover the outside w Cajun deliciousness!! Yum!! The honey garlic and mild wings are also good but flavor remains on the outside breading only and sadly not marinaded enough into the meat. Still good though and I love getting take out from them once in a while. Note: ask for forks/cutlery when getting take out!

Yelp
The famous "Monday/Thursday Wings Night" is everyone's favourite wings place in Waterloo. Located conveniently for UWaterloo, Laurier, and Conestoga students, this does not mean the typical "student food" you may experience. Their wings are what they are best known for and are almost as big as fried chicken in KFC/Popeyes. They are seasoned perfectly, drenched in sauce, tender and juicy. It comes with many flavours and the Wings Night deal is honestly quite affordable for the nearby student population. I'd often come here for their 2 pounds deal to celebrate the end of the week. It has a lively atmosphere and is a great social location for everyone to enjoy food and watch some sports games (they open late too). I recommend the classic honey garlic flavour, sweet chili Thai, and butter hot. Dry Cajun is quite good too (but not wet cajun).

Yelp
I had supper this evening at Morty's Pub. It was a busy spot! Their draft selection is lame so I went with Keith's in a bottle. They are apparently known for their wings so I ordered a small order with medium sauce. There were only six wings for $14 (so not cheap) but they were big wings. The sauce was good ... there was a bit of sweetness. The breading wasn't too heavy.

Yelp
I love coming here for their Wings night special, which is every Monday and Thursday. Morty's has arguably the best wings in the KW region and their wings are MASSIVE. For the Wings special, it's $7.99 per lb and you have to order a drink with it ($3.29 for a soft drink). Some of the flavours include Mild, Medium, Spicy, Honey Garlic, Sweet Chili Thai, BBQ, Dry Cajun, Wet Cajun, etc. My personal favourites are Honey Garlic, Sweet Chili Thai, and Dry Cajun. Since the wings are pretty big you'd tend to get 6 wings per lb. Unfortunately, the carrot and celery sticks are $2 extra. For students on a budget the Wings special is a great way to enjoy dining out with friends and not have to worry about break your wallet. Our bill came down to about $15 per person after tax and tips for 1lb of wings + soft drink, so it's definitely a great value for dinner. I am deducting a star for the low quality of service however, as it was pretty slow, and I find that the servers tend to pay less attention to you when they realize you're a group of students and not ordering any alcohol.

Yelp
Editing my review as they have significantly declined in quality and service. Used to love this place but will no longer come back here.
google avatar

Rheanna C.

Yelp
The staff here was super friendly! They took our order swiftly and had it ready at our preferred pick up time. The wings were super tender and had lots of meat! Definitely recommend the Dry Cajun Wings! We had the 18 piece wings (Sweet Thai Chili, Honey Garlic and Dry Cajun). We also added the Blue Cheese Dipping for an extra cost. The 18 pieces were good for 2 people. Must try wings in Waterloo!!
google avatar

Alexander S.

Yelp
Best wings in KW by far the best and largest it's absolutely amazing here. Beer is beer, but these wings are next level winging. Puts all dedicated wing shops to shame.

Sandra J.

Yelp
Great food and service. Wings are always great and have a wonderful selection of sauces and appetizers.

Yelp
At least once a week during my university years I could be found at Morty's, crushing copious amounts of chicken wings, burgers and beers. The Wings were always THE BEST. Big and juicy and crunchy and flavourful. All other wings paled in comparison. So now when I come back to the big new spot, I was expecting the quality to have suffered. The wings to be smaller, less crunchy and less flavourful. They Are Not. I just crushed a medium hot (insanely priced at $23.99) and I can say these 12 wings were the best damn wings in the whole damn world. Hot wings that are ACTUALLY spicy. If you order them hot, be prepared for saucy vinegary goodness. Crunchy and juicy as all fuck. Being 20 years old and blasting through a dozen wings with buddies were some of the best times of my life. Being 40 and doing the same...still fucking great. Way to go Jay!!!
google avatar

Gokul M.

Yelp
Best wings I've had in a while. In Toronto I would say duffs are solid wings and the ones I had at Morty's definitely one ups that. Had the spicy wings. It was very tasty. They let you sample the heat level and flavour if you're unsure if you can handle it. That really helps. If I'm in the area, I'm heading here again.
google avatar

Ryan T.

Yelp
Great wings! Burger night Sunday's while watching the NFL games (all of them). I just had schnitzel with applewood smoked bacon sauerkraut and it was excellent. I've been coming here since '91 and it's only gotten better. Wing night Monday and Thursday.
google avatar

Dennis H.

Yelp
Tldr: great place for huge, tasty wings. Mon/Thurs wing special used to be better, but still a good deal. Good service, would recommend. Morty's is your friendly neighborhood joint that serves pub food at a reasonable price. This used to be my go-to place for a great wing deal. On Mondays and Thursdays their special used to be 79 cent wings with the purchase of a drink. However, over the years they changed up the deal. Still a relatively good price for wings but not as good as before. I still come here occasionally though, as the the wings are quite consistent. They're meaty, juicy, and never dry on the inside. In terms of flavors, I usually get sweet chili Thai, buttery hot, honey garlic, or dry cajun. I would avoid the bbq flavors since it's not that great here. Service is usually pretty good, and the wait could be long if you do go on their wing day specials. Overall, if it's a mon/Thurs and you're looking for solid wings, morty's will not disappoint.
google avatar

Joey C.

Yelp
Probably the best wings in the area. Although their pricing is heinous compared to how they used to be (6 wings for $13.99?!), their wings are huge, juicy, and perfectly crispy. Come during the wing deal days (Mon/Thurs) though.

Vanessa L.

Yelp
Definitely come here for the Monday/Thursday wings deal!! It's so worth it and all you have to do is buy a drink along with it. All the sauces are worth a try. Tonight, I ordered the wet Cajun, my friends ordered a half dry Cajun half Thai sweet chili, and another ordered half honey garlic half mild. Personally I find the wet Cajun tasted a bit like some kind of sweet and sour with chili - like sauce...but was definitely my favourite! The other snack foods like fries, etc are okay- nothing special but not bad! The drinks here aren't bad either but on the pricier side for cocktails ($14 for maybe ~ 250mL). This place is always decently full when I go around 9-11p for a late night out with friends. Nonetheless, wait time is not bad and service is pretty awesome! Especially tonight, our server chatted us up and we had a nice conversation. Very excellent service.

Yelp
Not a bad spot. Definitely a sports pub, so go for the beer and atmosphere, not necessarily the food. Went on a nite the Maple Leafs were in a playoff game, so the place was packed. We were forced to sit up front near the door and I froze my ass off. Noticed that the place was packed out with a bunch of college students as well, so there's that going on at Morty's. Had plenty of TVs, all were tuned in to the Maple Leafs game naturally. Had the chicken Caesar wrap with a side of poutine and it was fine, nothing to write home about. The gravy on my fries was a bit cold....don't really know if it had anything to do with my seat next to the door?

Sunny C.

Yelp
Prices have increased since 2020; hard to justify $25+ on a beer and mediocre burger.
google avatar

Laura C.

Yelp
I came here on a Thursday night for their wings special with friends. It was pretty packed and my friend had to wait a bit before we were seated. The atmosphere was quite lively and warm. The waitress was attentive, quick, and straightforward. We ordered dry cajun, sweet chili thai, and honey garlic I believe. The flavours were all very different from each other which is good. The wings had a lot of meat but they could be better seasoned. I guess it's like this for a lot of wings where the flavour is all from the sauce on the outside only.
google avatar

Tony F.

Yelp
Their chickens would definitely be disqualified from the Olympics for steroids. The thing was the size of Ben Johnson's head. When I saw the price tag of over $10 for 6 wings with no sides, I thought these better be the best dang wings or biggest ones I've ever had... and well.. they found some kind of monster chickens. I mean, I wouldn't want to run into this thing in a dark alley. And the only one who'd be chicken is me. Bok bok! These things were darn tasty too and amazingly crispy. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars was because I hated the fries. Super soggy and greasy and just blah.. but you're there for the wings! Also its an additional charge for veggies. Place has tv's all over, so you're not going to miss a beat on whatever sports coverage you're watching. Anyways.. I still can't imagine how big this chicken would be. It'd be some kind of horror movie.
google avatar

Calvin S.

Yelp
Thursday Wings Night is where it's at! I also completely agree with the comments listed, their wings are the best in KW, even better than Wild Wing, Crabby Joe's, etc. Warning though: This place is VERY popular amongst university students, and if you're arriving in game nights, Thursday nights, or weekends you're almost guaranteed a wait.
google avatar

Eric F.

Yelp
Wing night is a great night to visit Morty's. Make sure you go early, because otherwise you'll have to wait quite a while for a seat. Parking is nearly non-existent, so your best bet is to walk/bus or try street parking. The wings are large. There are several different flavours of wings, but I'm always left wishing they had some interesting flavours to keep it different everytime I vist. I recommend that you mix up wet and dry wings, because if you have 15 wet wings, you will feel disgusting afterwards! Wings with sauce will have lots of sauce. Take-out containers cost $1 each.
google avatar

Shuang W.

Yelp
I can't count how many times my friends and I went to wings night at mortys last year ! The blue Lagoon cocktail is so beautiful and tasty for ladies. For the wings, dry Cajun and honey garlic are my fav! But my friends said sweet chili Thai and buttery hot are also pretty good. If u cannot handle spicy, do not try the flavors called suicide and super suicide! DO NOT. But if u are spicy lovers, don't try it too since it will just taste like sour in your mouth, at least that was what happened to me.
google avatar

Elisa L.

Yelp
After McGinnis shut down, this seemed like the only reasonably priced sports bar near the universities. The speed of food preparation has picked up a bit and the service has definitely gotten better, though sometimes food still takes 15+ min to arrive. The Monday & Thurs Wings nights are great deals and do get busy. I still feel like the basement level is pretty old and needing an improvement, though luckily haven't ever had to sit there yet. Great atmosphere overall to watch a game or have a drink with friends. For a larger beer selection though, check out Kickoff in the Waterloo plaza.
google avatar

Vanessa W.

Yelp
Wings night is the best. Great portions and filling, good to go with friends so you can try all the flavours. Honey garlic is personally my favourite and I always get them everytime I go.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
As someone who had recently turned of age this location was very friendly knowledgable and offered a wide selection of beers, mixed drinks and pub food. I enjoy going to this location after classes and in the evenings in my free time. There are many TVs that play a variety of different sports throughout the evening. It is my go to to catch the NBA games as I don't have cable where I live. If you're looking for a relaxed, classic environment this is where you go.
google avatar

Steven L.

Yelp
Really nice place to come with your friends to grab some wings and a drink. Usually can always find a seat no problem.
google avatar

Becca C.

Yelp
After 3 years in Waterloo, I finally tried Morty's! It has standard pub food and the patio is great! It's a bit odd that all salads are priced the same on the menu but there is an additional charge to upgrade your side salad.
google avatar

Dennis B.

Yelp
Our family had Thursday night wings Last night. Pathetic, sad, crummy offering of wings. Better wings at KFC. I can't imagine having to pay full price for this garbage. Service is great. Wings are the worst in Waterloo, Ontario. There's not much left to say - pitiful.
google avatar

Tabish G.

Yelp
Red bull isn't the only thing that gives you wings! Coming to Morty's was not a pour decision! On a Monday (early!) Evening, I was extremely surprised to find this place as packed as the lunch my mom would make for me (if you're wondering - very!) Albeit packed, we were attended to fairly quickly and our food arrived fairly quickly Sticking with the usual pub food, and not trying anything adventurous, I decided to go with the Fish N Chips! The meal was delicious and not a single piece was left. The fish was cooked well and extremely tender along with the fries that complimented the fish due to its crispiness and salty taste. Albeit tasty, it did seem like the portions were a tiny bit small compared to the price paid, especially for a pub in a small city. That said, it is extremely popular and fairly packed! Our server was super nice (and wore kickass glasses too +1!)
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
The wings here are MASSSSSIVE (probably not natural but anyways) - definitely left this restaurant with a super full tummy. Their flavours are also very on point and not bland. It's very inexpensive (Monday and Thursday specials), so it's great for all the students who go to Waterloo and Laurier cause we all know that "student budget life". The service here is great and everyone is really chill, probably cause we're all around the same age. It's a good hang out spot after a long day of class or on the weekends for those who don't head back home. Only downfall is the lines are long and this place is helllla busy and packed all the time, but there's obviously a reason why cause this place is great. Do you even go to uw or laurier if you've never been to morty's?!?!?!
google avatar

Ashok P.

Yelp
Great on Mondays special for cajun dry rub wings

Yelp
When you think about weeknights in College/University you think of a few things, pubs and pub with your friends, maybe watching sports, playing some poker, and if your ambitious, maybe tossing back a few pitchers (or a few too many pitchers) of beer and then negotiating with your god the next morning about giving you the strength to get up for class that day. I'm definitely "not" speaking from experience here... Morty's was an institution before I came to Waterloo, as legend of their massive wings reached my ears only a few hours after arriving on campus in September 2004 - "Have you heard of Morty's yet?" I cannot count the number of nights I spent here, mostly cheap wing nights (Thursday's) with roommates and even a few "meetings" for class where wings and beer flowed endlessly all night long and sore stomachs and food comas soon followed. Morty's has a back split location with a main entrance area (terrible to sit in during the colder months) an upstairs area that surrounds a long bar, and a basement area which could be booked out for parties (such as my surprise 21st birthday, thanks to the planning prowess of my visiting parents and girlfriend of that time). There doesn't seem to be a shortage of seating except on wing nights, then you're lucky to get 2 seats on the bar. I've had other Morty's items such as: Panzos, pizza, burgers, etc, but nothing compares to the wings, nothing. They're the one thing I want when visiting Waterloo, and one of my fondest memories from University. Thanks Morty's for always being synonymous with great wings and memories! Eatcrest Out
google avatar

Jim R.

Yelp
Took our youngest back up to Univ of Waterloo and after dropping of his 3 baskets of clean clothes, we took him out for dinner too, to Morty's! Great nachos, and a fine Beef Hoagie and a Rickards' Red...all served with a great smile from our co-ed waitress. That's what I like about this major Univ town...good food and great service! And, I had 2 Reds, too...fine place to visit when in town! :-) Jim
google avatar

Cindy B.

Yelp
You are not going to beat wing night at Morty's! That's pretty much what this review is for since I have not gone any other time for the years I was in Waterloo. They were definitely good deal for $0.50 if you also bought a drink. (Just read from other reviews that the price has gone up, but still would have been worth it.) Those wings were huge and the selection of flavours also great. My favourite was the wet Cajun. Not much more I can say about this place, except definitely better than Einstein's wings my U of T friends bragged about.
google avatar

Jay S.

Yelp
OK, I admit it's been 20+ years since I went to school in K/W. I've put back a lot of wings in a lot of bars around the world since then, but the golden standard that I keep coming back to is Morty's. Sure, a lot has changed since the Morty himself used to tell stories so long your wings would go cold. But his son (another Jay) has really taken the franchise and run with it. And good on 'em for doing it. The fact is, the staff bust their asses in this place getting the wings out: fresh, hot and huge. The beer is cold and cheap, and the scenery remains very attractive even if I'm getting too old to admire the fact that Laurier always had the hottest women in all of Ontario. If you want a night out with the boys, or a hockey game. With big beers and bigger wings, this is your place.
google avatar

Hayden T.

Yelp
Every time I go to this place I try to forget that the last time I went I thought the wings weren't that great cause everyone seems to love the wings there so they must be good. However, every time I end up thinking why did I eat these wings and why didn't I just order dry cajun. The sauce is too watery and it soaks into the wing breading and the flavors themselves really aren't all that great. The wings aren't horrible, they just aren't as amazing as everyone says they are and for me really the only flavor worth getting is dry cajun. If I am going to go for wings I'd much rather pay a bit more and go for something like wild wings or all star wings in Toronto which have much more flavors to chose from. On a side note, the all dressed fries are actually amazing!
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Morty's used to be a weekly stop in for me before I moved away. As I just moved back I had to check in again. Conveniently it was a Thursday (wing night). Atmosphere is wonderful - its still familiar which I like. The menu has changed but I believe the food is still good. They are said to have the best wings in town - I am not a fan of their wings - but if your into wings this is your place. I used to love the pizza they had on the menu - sadly its gone. Service is unreal (amazing!) - we had probably 5 waitresses throughout the night - one main server - but the others all help each other out - which means you never have to wait for anything. It's fantastic. Also if your looking for a patio - Morty's has a good one.
google avatar

Joshua H.

Yelp
Morty's makes the best and biggest wings in the area. They're super cheap on wing night, but you'll wait in line for a while. The staff does a great job keeping on top of things, and the place always seems to be pretty busy. Definitely try their wings, even if they're not on special.
google avatar

Rina C.

Yelp
I have been going to Morty's since I was a little girl - when Morty actually ran the place and it was a little hole in the wall! You can't go wrong when you're here, this place is amazing. Everyone days the wings are good, and they are by far the best I have ever had, but the panzerotti is soooo good. The sauce is outstanding! If you're in the area and have never been, it's a must. If you're not in the area, it's still a must. Morty's is an institution!!!!
google avatar

Sanaa R.

Yelp
Excellent service from the kitchen staff who came out to discuss our allergy concerns and even called up one of their suppliers to confirm the ingredients. And best of all, the food was allegen-free, as promised! And as a bonus, the burgers were delicious. (and way too big .. I totally over-ate) Will definitely be returning in the future.
google avatar

Amber L.

Yelp
Just go on wing night (monday or thursday)! Can't beat the price and the quality of the wings. Favourite would have to be dry cajun wings. Also had the fries which is just way undercooked and soggy. I wouldn't recommend the veggie sticks either since they give just 3-5 pieces. And don't expect much for service. The waitresses I've had the handful of times I've been there were ice cold. I don't know if they just hate serving students but they could try to smile and offer better service!

Tyler M.

Yelp
The chicken wings that Morty's sells are arguably the best in all of KW. They have a number of different flavours and the wings themselves are much larger than the average. On Mondays and Thursdays Morty's has wing night specials where wings are only $0.59 each. The service can sometimes be slow, but this could be attributed to the amount of people in the restaurant. During nights, Morty's can get incredibly busy and you can end up waiting for some time for a table. The only other thing to note is that Morty's does not accept debit cards. Instead, they have an ATM inside the restaurant where you can grab cash from.
google avatar

Stephanie T.

Yelp
Service is good, waitresses and hostesses are usually really friendly. Can be a very long wait during dinner rush and especially on Tuesday's half price wings special. Quality and quantity are comparable to other wings places in the area. Outdoor seating is available during the summer.
google avatar

Christian M.

Yelp
Best wings in town, reasonably priced. Fine beer selections, variety of sitting, good pub grub.
