Best Muffulettas in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"This Westwego go-to destination for pizza is a family-run neighborhood joint that calls regulars by name and satisfies with massive pies. But it’s also known for its muffuletta, layered with a truly exceptional amount of meat, with mortadella lining the top and the ham and Genoa salami anchoring on the bottom. In between the meats is a comparable layer of olive salad, more than just a condiment, and a thin but just-enough layer of melty cheese. The bread is just right — thinner than some, which we think lets the ingredients shine that much more. Want the best of both worlds? The muffuletta pizza is a customer favorite." - Beth D’Addono

Where to Find the Tastiest Pizza in New Orleans

"A quarter of a century old, Mo’s is the Westbank’s go-to destination for pizza, a friendly, neighborhood joint that calls regulars by name and satisfies with massive pies — the small is 16 inches. It’s chewy and soft with a slightly sweeter sauce; it’s particularly popular with the kiddos." - Clair Lorell, Eater Staff

Google
My sons baseball team had just won the championship and they were closing in like 30 mins and they still accommodated us with happy faces and took care of us. Food was delicious

Leggo M.

Google
I normally love the pizza here, but today was a little too burnt to enjoy. Just check your pizza when you pick it up, but otherwise this place really does have the best pizza.

Bridget D.

Google
We ordered a supreme pizza slice and two cheese pizza slices. The slices are huge! They cut them in half for you. We also got drinks. The pizza was amazing. So delicious. I think it's the sauce that makes is so good. We will be going back again. Great service and delicious pizza!

Dominick M.

Google
Pretty great place. Pizza is enormous and awesome. They have Diet Pepper in fountain drink. Muffulettas are awesome. Salads are decent. I eat here for work almost monthly. The large pizza is huge. Easily enough for 3 people, and maybe 4 or 5.

Tommy H.

Google
I just came back for the first time in years and it is still just as great as I remember it. Giant slices of deliciousness! I’m glad I stopped by. Anyone who hasn’t tried their pizza needs to,

Zoo O.

Google
Been coming here for years and this is the first time I have had a bad pizza from here, so i'll give them that. Pizza was very doughy and undercooked, which I do not understand how that happened considering it was a half hour wait; it definitely wasn't cooking for that long. Pizza was cut terribly as well

Frank B

Google
One of the best pizzas on the Westbank. I was there for a Ducks Unlimited meeting, so I can't count on price. It's a long way from my house, but I am willing to give it a try with family/friends. They have a lot more than just pizza on the menu. Very clean and quiet if you want to dine in. Bee ts the chsins by a mile!

adele A.

Google
Ordered pizza with everything on it. It was terrible. Hardly any toppings on it and missing some of the toppings that were supposed to be on it. Very bland. Nothing like the one that I bought from them years ago. I wish I never would have bought this one. Ruined my memories from long ago. And I paid a lot for it because I thought it was worth it ( because of my memories from the past). Will never get another and I will not recommend them to family and friends ever again.

Yelp
Pizza Muff & Meatballs don't know which one is better my favorite they are all so good.
google avatar

Jason K.

Yelp
Well I haven't been here in about three years because I moved and it use to be great. Red sauce was like candy it was so sweet the pizza was not what I remembered maybe a cook with not enough experience idk but the pizza tonight was not good

Andrew B.

Yelp
Food is generally solid. I like the pizza, and the sausage wraps, but my partner likes the chicken parmesan, and all are good, but their prices are extremely high for what they are. Plus they nickel and dime for stuff like sauce for the sausage rolls. 3/5 stars for the food/price value ratio.

Eddie B.

Yelp
if I could, I would give this place -stars after all these years I have enjoyed the pizzas and recently the turn over supreme, which is pr good, but it's the poor professionalism of the tall skinny girl that is employed there. The order that I have been keeping is the turnover supreme. pay cash, it $12.98 with tax, pay with card,$13.44. I always pay cash. I tell them make it an even $13.00. The tall skinny girl comes with a poor attitude telling me it's $13.45 with card and $13.44 for cash. Then she gets mad as I try to explain to her. She says "Here's your .40 cents," then gets the order and toss it at me and says "enjoy ". That made it the last time Mo's will ever get another d from me. I'll eat dog crap, even if they was the only place left to eat on earth.

Yelp
OMG the pizza is top-notch, and I have had it everywhere, NY NJ Chicago and Detroit. Jeff and Lisa continue to provide top-quality pizza, and their sauce is heaven. I can't not buy a bottle every time I go. The restaurant is what you would want in a pizza ship, local memorabilia plus the certificate showing Jeff is properly trained. I highly recommend that if you live on the Westbank or are over there, get you a slice or a whole pie

Adam Y.

Yelp
This place is gross. Sweet lasagna marinara sauce!? Absolutely disgusting! The sugar in the recipe weighed more than the tomatoes. WTF! The people who love this place should just join a cult because their understanding of what makes a good restaurant is unjustifiably weighed against other people telling them that this place is "good." Moe's is the worst pizza place I've ever been to and I've been around the world!!! The pizza sauce is equally as disgusting. People say, "oh wow, it's so big" like that means anything! Is is all tastes like shit than wtf is your point!?!??

Trey P.

Yelp
Best pizza in Louisiana by far their service is great and their tomato sauce for their pizza is my favorite the best order is pepperoni with Italian sausage
google avatar

Adele M.

Yelp
I always purchase muffulattes for my son, when I'm in Nola and bring them back to him in San Clemente, CA. He loves them - everything they fix is awesome - they will pack them for shipping with the olive salad on the side - always friendly and help -

Yelp
Last few times we have gone for pizza it was not up to par. Stingy on toppings and either overcooked or undercooked. Tonight we went and ordered a slice of pizza and a Friday night special roast beef poboy with extra gravy. They charge a buck extra for extra gravy, but I'm ok with that. We ordered at 5:50pm. Pizza was ready at 6ish but still waiting for the poboy. I checked on the poboy at 6:20pm and stood there at least 10 minutes waiting on someone to acknowledge me and check on the sandwich. Meanwhile I hear a staff member yell "25 minutes on roast beef". The girl checked on it and said about 3 more minutes. By this time it was 6:35 and I had had enough so I asked for a refund. Ironically it was then ready. I said nope, I don't want it. I want my money back. They had to find someone else to give me a refund who tells me they are backed up on sandwiches. Ok, if this is a Friday night only special and it is already cooked, it shouldn't take 40 minutes to put it together and send out. Needless to say, we will take a break from there for a while.

Yelp
Very good food, service was alright. There food proportions are massive, the photo is a MEDIUM pizza so plan accordingly
google avatar

Richard M.

Yelp
Great food huge portions and friendly staff. A slice of pizza is huge so maybe start with one and add a second later. They are quick.
google avatar

Crystal B.

Yelp
Pretty decent pies, reminiscent of New York styles. We ordered the 20" meats and a 16" (oblique) pepperoni but I must say, they were pretty tasty. The kiddos thought the pepperoni pizza was a cool shape lol. I think it was a mistake. Needless to say, both boxes were left with crumbs. As far as seating, there's plenty and lots of room for social distancing. There was a steady flow of customers ordering take out with a couple eating in. They do require face masks upon entry so be prepared. Although the absolute best pizza I've had; however, I'd return and recommend but I need more cheese on my pie.

Hugh R.

Yelp
Been going to Mo's for years. Haven't been for a while. Went Sat 06/08, daughter and grandkids stopped over. The quality is about the same, but they have priced themselves out of my budget. Ordered a large cheese pizza. $29. I could have gotten two large pepperoni pizza's from domino's for half that price. Sorry Mo's
google avatar

Jasmine W.

Yelp
Pizza is Delicious! I highly recommend. Side note: When reheating the next day use the toaster oven.
google avatar

M H.

Yelp
I've been coming here since the 90's and the supreme and pepperoni is exactly as I remember it. Large slices and amazing flavors. They haven't missed a step. Great family run restaurant and we'll keep coming for years to come.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Best New Orleans style pizza around. I've lived here for 8 years now, and I've had a lot of New York style pizza here, and I'm glad that Mo's is true to the native sweet sauce experience. Mo's also has a thick crust, but it's full of flavor, texture, it's crispy and overall delicious. I recommend getting a whole pie, and enjoying it fresh out of the oven. There's a reason this place has been successful for so long. Local gem on the Wank.

Toni B.

Yelp
I have NEVER had anyone come close to my spaghetti and meatballs but they've done it! Their pizza, Muffalettas, and well, just about anything is FABULOUS! Do yourself a favor and try them soon!

Emile B.

Yelp
Great pizza but can get crowded. We usually call in our order before we leave the house! The meat lovers is awesome!!

Murphy G.

Yelp
Stopped by to have dinner. Got the spaghetti and meatballs only to find that there was only one small meatball and that it was prepackaged and warmed. The issue with that is that the steam caused a water puddle under the sauce. Not what I want for $10
google avatar

Rachelle S.

Yelp
Kinda taste like they burnt the bottom of the pizza. Not impressed. I came here a long time ago with my mom and I don't remember the pizza tasting this bad.
google avatar

Brad J.

Yelp
Best pizza in New Orleans!!! Best muffuletta in New Orleans!!! Simply the best all around pizza joint!!!
google avatar

Eddie A.

Yelp
Great pizza, Italian style dishes of all kinds and awesome quick service in a unique atmosphere.. love it !
google avatar

R A.

Yelp
Never disappointed, service is great it had been years since I visited Mo's. We were so happy our taste buds celebrated . My crew didn't believe how big the pizza was & the especially the price, not to mention the Taste didn't disappoint either
google avatar

Joseph O.

Yelp
Two stars for the dough! Sauce is way too sweet and cheese is not what it used to be. Not trying to hurt the place but please never compare this pizza to New York pizza. The size of the pie doesn't make it ny pizza... its a taste and with that sauce and cheese combination that these folks have settled with it just doesnt cut it! I had this pizza many years back and it was not like what I had today.
google avatar

Mike T.

Yelp
Its ok. Kind of cafeteria style. Walk in, order, sit down, wait to be called to pick up your food. Communal tables and some individual tables. Seems like a place that opened in the 70s or 80s and never changed. It's clean. Old checkered tablecloths. The staff was very nice. THE FOOD: I was told their meatball po-boy was awesome, so I ordered one. Comes with sauce and cheese, so I ordered a side of olive salad. It's large. The meatballs have decent flavor. The bread is good. The sauce.. a little sweet and the cheese is kind of tasteless. Overall... it's just ok. Maybe great for Louisiana, but... just ok, really. I also ordered a slice of sausage and black olive pizza. Its a large slice, you get your money's worth. The sausage is actually pretty good, as are olives and crust. Again, same cheese.. tasteless, same sauce. Needs work. Needs oregano, less sugar more clove. It's just ok.
google avatar

Kurt L.

Yelp
Got the BEST muffuletta in the city and a large meat pizza . That is enough to feed a group for a week...

Jade P.

Yelp
Local favorite Supreme Turnover is my favorite but husband love the pepperoni pizza with jalapeños.
google avatar

Lynn W.

Yelp
I really like deep dish pizza that has Chicago flavor. The slices are humongous. I heard the roast beef on Friday was good. This pizza is the exact opposite. It is thin crust and has a sweet, savory taste in the sauce. They give you big pizzas for a good price. If you are in the Westbank area, give them a try. The service is quick and good costs.
google avatar

Court T.

Yelp
Love Mo's! BestBank staple since I can remember! A little something for everyone. What kid doesn't love a slice of pizza the size of their head! Personally I am a huge fan of their roast beef muffalettas. I speak about it and recommended them people so often that when my friends go to Mo's they send me pictures of their muffulettas which I'm totally OK with! As a fairly new resident of the Westwego area I've appreciated that after every storm or more recently pandemic they're quick to find a way to come back and feed everyone! Their phones might be down and they might be running off of a generator but they're here to feed their community and for that alone I will always support them!! Also the wings, the meatballs, the sausage rolls, the regular Muffulettas, the salads! By the way just recently learned how delicious and big their salads are after Ida! I'd also like to add to my review a thank you to Mo's for being such a valued part of our community! We see you!!
google avatar

Wendall R.

Yelp
Best pizza ever!!!..I use to live on the west bank years ago and come here to eat pizza and still to this day I will not come down this way without picking up a couple of boxes of pizza when I come to visit
google avatar

Phuong N.

Yelp
Haven't had Mos pizza for awhile so I decided to pick one up today. I've had better from my previous order. Today I got half cheese and half bacon. The pizza taste a bit too salty for some reason.
google avatar

Trish S.

Yelp
TERRIBLE SERVICE! The owner and her daughter were so rude!!!! Will Never never come back here again! Crappy pizza too! Treat your customers with some respect. Her response was we are so busy! I don't care how busy you are you can treat your customers kindly.

Richard S.

Yelp
Walked in to order about 5 pm. . Ordered slice of pizza, meatball Poboy and Coke. . Was a wait. Several orders went ahead of mine perhaps due to type of order, but expected order to be placed at time ordered not 30 minutes later and 10 orders later. Service slipped, but clean location. Good food. About mile from Best Western Bayou, Westwego, LA.
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
I grew up eating MO's. It's the only pizza my wife and I will eat. I truly have not had a bad meal from here.

Mario S.

Yelp
Best pizza in town, tried the mufelletta pizza, you just went to DI Martinos and had a pizza
google avatar

Don R.

Yelp
It was decent. It came at the recommendation of family who live in town. The ambiance was that of an old run down itialian place. The sauce was overly sweet for me. The menu was a bit limited but covered all the basics.

Herm G.

Yelp
Somewhat disappointed. At one time the best muffulettas on the best bank. Well not this time. Should of had === Round Loaf Italian Bread, did have. Olive Salad, did have. Capicola? or Deli Ham, did have. Genoa Salami. One slice Mortadella, did not have. Sliced Mozzarella, did have. Provolone Cheese Did Not have. Only had ham and one cut of salami the rest all ham and one cheese only. Now don't get me wrong it was good, BUT MAN, NOT LIKE IT USED TO BE. Shape up, please don't skimp on things we know should be on your once grate muffulettas. I will be back for the muffulettas, that I know Mo's are known for. Maybe someone didn't know what they were doing that put it together.

Ken D.

Yelp
Been going to MO's for years. Everything on their menu is good. A large pizza is a little smaller than Fat Boys but is, in my opinion, a better quality pizza.
google avatar

Peter N.

Yelp
One of my favorite place to go to while in the West Bank, pizza is good and huge, turnover is delicious and hot, but the star of this visit is the mozzarella sticks! They are made to order, and it's worth the wait! Their marinara sauce is delicious! Definitely worth the visit if you are in the area!

Christian V.

Yelp
Whenever I'm on the west bank - I make a pit stop at mo's pizza. Love that I can order by the slice. One slice is a meal by the way. Everyone working is super friendly and the food is always tasty. I love a slice (any flavor!)or a meatball sub. I highly recommend Mo's for excellent pizza and the beer glasses are always frosty!
google avatar

Jennifer F.

Yelp
It's definitely not consistently good. I feel we get bad pizza more often than good ones these days. Went in at 7pm on a Friday and was told they weren't making anymore pizzas, what is left is all that was left for the night. They close at 10? How do you serve 3 hour old pizzas

Debbie N.

Yelp
Love love love their muffuletta! The bread, the olive salad, they pile the meat on!!! I cannot rave about it enough. Lots of people love their pizza, the sauce is a little too sweet for me, but that's just my taste. I highly recommend!
google avatar

Tiffany B.

Yelp
Whenever I go out of town, I like to try and eat at the local resturaunts instead of a chain. So glad we found this place!!! Yummy pizza... Huge pizza!!!! We will make this a regular stop whenever we are in the area!

Laura B.

Yelp
Expect to wait a long time IF they even remember to make your pizza. Everytine I have gotten pizza it takes them a long time. This last time, I asked what stage my pizza was in and they said it was in the oven. I checked after an hour and 10 min. They FORGOT to make my pizza. The manager with blond hair didn't care and left it to her pizza maker to talk to me. She said I just got here so talk to him. I have never seen someone care so little! Don't waste your time. There are plenty of dive pizza places that care about customers.

Allissa L.

Yelp
Very good. Pizzas were hot and ingredients fresh. Staff were courteous and answered questions with a smile.
google avatar

Karen T.

Yelp
my favorite place to get a good ole pepperoni pizza! it's something about the pizza sauce that i love! the slight sweet taste of the sauce and the pizza crust has a good toasted crisp to it. they do get really busy so it's always good to order ahead if you're trying to order a whole pizza or more.
google avatar

Krystal G.

Yelp
Mo's is the best pizza I've ever had in my life. The crust is crunchy, yet perfectly chewy. The sauce is perfection! The perfect amount of sweet and herb. The meat they put on this pizza is ridiculous. There's meatball slices, the worlds best ham, pepperoni. We usually get the large, which is 20 inches. We can eat a few times on it between 2 people. I've also had the lasagna which is delicious. The sausage rolls are perfect. You can't go wrong here. They were voted the best pizza in the New Orleans area a few years ago. Please do yourself a favor and check them out. I know people willing to travel an hour plus for this perfection pie. Even the just pepperoni pizza is bomb. They sell pizza by the slice also.
google avatar

David A.

Yelp
I have heard a lot about Moe's from pizza lovers. I had to go check it out for myself. It's a little difficult to locate but I finally found it on the West Bank. They make huge!!! Pizzas. I ordered pepperoni Italian sausage with extra sauce and they made an error making the pizza but they gave me some extra dipping sauce. It was a sweet kind of a sauce and it was very tasty. I ordered the small pizza and made four meals out of one pizza for $21. Definitely a good value and I would definitely repeat.
google avatar

Kayci D.

Yelp
I've eaten here several times. Usually I order the spaghetti and meatballs. It's pretty good. Tonight while waiting on my order, I noticed that the people preparing the food were not wearing gloves. I watched the cashiers handle money and then immediately after they were sprinkling cheese on pizzas. I'm debating on if I will return. I definitely wouldn't recommend a pizza.
