South Pasadena’s Historic Rialto Theater Eyes Revitalization With New Restaurant | Eater LA

"This 93-year-old single-screen theater, which closed in 2007, has drawn renewed attention after serving as a filming location for the Oscar-winning film La La Land. Mosaic Church, which signed a long-term (reported 15-year) lease and now occupies the building, is participating in a revitalization effort aimed at attracting both locals and visitors beyond its congregation. Senior pastor Erwin McManus has proposed reworking the ground-floor retail into a cafe or restaurant; the church is accepting sublease offers and prefers businesses that would operate seven days a week. Church leadership, including pastor Lawrence Fudge, says returning the building to a movie-theater use is unlikely given modern economics that favor multiplexes, leaving this as one of Los Angeles’s remaining single-screen houses." - Mona Holmes

The Rialto Theatre is a classic and some of my favorite movies have been shot there like Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master & Scream 2. This needs to be preserved into a theatre again!!!

It feels like walking back in time as I walk in the main lobby. Every bit of this theater is in its original shape as it was the 20s'. A Historic Landmark in Soth Pasadena

I’ve driven by the Rialto theater for years, and I have seen it rot, for many years, and nobody in South Pasadena ever seemed to care, but since Mosaic moved in and spent time renovating it , people are bitter! I agree it was a theater in the past, but now it has life, maybe you should go inside and experience “Mosaic” I did, I still attend Holy Family Catholic Church in South Pasadena, welcome Mosaic !!

Beautiful, historic venue. Currently being updated and renovated to become Mosaic' s Pasadena venue. Mosaic is a church in Hollywood.

I would give it zero stars if I could. We went there for the first time last Sunday, and all the staff made us feel so unwelcome trying to make us leave because we came with a baby. They keeps asking the entire service for us to be moved to a family room where there is a TV. First of, my baby was perfectly fine, second, if I wanted to watch a service through a TV, I would watch it in my house. This wine guy was so rude, asking me to leave and if not to give her a pacifier o a bottle. Guess what? You don’t get to tell me what to do with my baby. I left so frustrated and disappointed by my religion and my community, and will never ever go back or recommend this place to anyone ever. God says, bring the children to me, not send them away to a different room because they are not welcome at his temple.

If you want to become a CHURCH GOER, you should come here. But if you want to be a committed DISCIPLE of Christ and grow with other committed disciples, then you should go somewhere else. I spent 6 months attending that church and this was my experience. Btw, another committed disciple told me he experienced something similar and that many aspects of the church are just superficial: - This church doesn't have a good strategy to make disciples, or they probably don't care about making disciples. They probably confirm with having hundreds of church goers. - There are groups but they only meet for a few weeks, about 3. There's no continuous small group meetings to learn about the Bible. - There are cliques, and it's not easy to form friendships unless they really like you then they show it - All the nice things you see are just SUPERFICIAL: the welcome team, the good music, the free snacks, the talented speakers, the pictures and videos on Instagram. It's just superficial. Don't get me wrong, all that is GREAT to have but Mosaic is doing an inefficient job to help disciples grow. - I noticed most people don't know what steps to take to grow in their relationship in Christ. It looks like they just go for other reasons like just to hang out. - The few leaders quote on quote (not the pastors) don't have a good preparation However! They do plan many activities to create community. I do give them credit for it, but still it feels like the Holy Spirit isn't in people's lives.
