Vegan Restaurants Rely on Their Community to Survive the Pandemic | Eater Austin

"I learned that this longstanding neighborhood vegetarian restaurant, in operation for 40 years, faces an uncertain future—co-owner John Silberberg fears it may not last the year because patrons aren’t feeling comfortable dining out or indoors." - Alisha McDarris

Food was made with love, we enjoyed the cold pressed juice, mother clucker (added marionberry jam) and smoothies. Fresh and flavorful! And very helpful and happy service.

I'm not the biggest fan of healthy breakfast food places, but this one honestly offers really good options. They have options for smaller meals such as bagels with sides or smoothies. However, you can also get a well-made breakfast sandwich here too with fresh ingredients. The prices can be rather high, but they're on trend with similar restaurants in the Portland metro area, and the quality is just as good as in the city, if not better. They serve some of the best oatmeal I've ever had, flavored with chai and made to perfection. Limited coffee selection, but what they have is tasty. It's pretty casual inside without too much service, and I feel a bit of snobbiness from the place, but overall it's comfortable and clean, a good cafe for early food.

10/4/2025 I’ve never personally had mothers, but hear very good things. I’m leaving a review regarding their hours. They are CLOSED on Sundays. And are CLOSED Saturdays until further notice.

In the last week, I've ordered a fresh juice online and shown up to find out they don't have the ingredients to make it. The first time, I was bummed but as a business owner, I understand that things like this can happen. Today was the second time that the same thing happened. No call ahead to let me know. No apologies whatsoever, either time. Today, I suggested that since I'd order and paid for fresh juice twice this week and didn't get what I ordered, that it would be nice to have the correct juice on the house the next time I come in. The manager on duty said something like "whatever you want" in a tone that clearly indicated she didn't agree. I'm going to assume she thought I was asking for my juice to be free today and next time, because I don't think she realized I'd already paid online. I mentioned it would be better for business to have a little extra waste than to turn customers away by running out regularly. She felt her management had a different perspective on that. But let me share my perspective: If I come spend $26 once a week, that's $1,352 in sales. But if I order ahead and multiple times in a row I arrive to find they don't have what I ordered, there's a point in which I decide not to come back. The cost of losing just one single customer is far more expensive than the little bit of additional food waste. Now just imagine if 20 customers make that same decision. Next thing you know, you've lost tens of thousands in revenue and those customers may never come back. That doesn't even begin to account for the word of mouth that occurs when customers have negative experiences. I ask that the leadership consider the above, and also that they coach their employees on how to apologize and "make it right" in these situations. These instances are the critical moments that can either make a lifetime fan or a lost customer and opportunity.

We placed our mobile order of Renees Roasted Chicken, Perfectly sunny with bacon and gouda cheese, and a Nuttin Honey drink. Did not receive our order, after placing it 20 minutes before hand. Once we have received the order we were told they were out of Renees Roasted Chicken after knowing we had placed an order and waited for the amount of time, so we decided to get the sunrise wrap waited another 20 minutes got the wrap which was half the size it originally is. After getting our Sunrise Wrap and Perfectly sunny we waited in the pick up area cause we had our drink, we waited and waited until one of the employees came up and asked why we are still waiting. We told him about the drink and the employee proceeded to say "oh yeah I forgot about that too, sorry I gave that to someone else" and as I look around there's someone eating that I remembered that said they received the wrong drink too, which apparently was my drink. So we waited for the drink and at the end they also made an extra drink by mistake and we were like maybe they were going to give it to us since we waited for a very long time and made mistakes on our order, but nope we didn't get it and had already paid extra cause they didn't give us the money back for the price difference of the Roasted chicken ($15) and Sunrise wrap ($11) We get back home to enjoy our meal after this whole mishap and I proceed to open my Perfectly sunny and find they didn't put the gouda cheese or bacon in it ($3 extra). I realized also that they didn't give us the fruit that comes with the sunrise wrap. We tipped 15% which was $6 since you have to tip before receiving the order on mobile card pay. wish we could take that back that's for sure. All in all, worst experience I've had in the food industry and I've worked in this profession all my life, and understand mistakes happen, but this was way too many for what is acceptable. I will not be coming back to Mother's Eastside or Westside Kitchen due to this experience. I'm honestly only writing this review cause I'm angry and appalled, but if you like the food which I did and have not experienced something like this with them go and still eat there, its just my experience that I wanted to share. *TLDR: Ordered food here, had to wait an extra hour, told us they didnt have one of the food items we ordered got something else, didn't receive money back for difference, forgot to make drinks, didn''t receive the paid extras we requested on our items.

Stopped in while visiting town and SO GLAD we did! I had the little bear smoothie and the turkey Everest in a GF tortilla and both were amazing. The tortilla was a little stiff but it tasted good and was a welcomed option, if I lived closer I'd definitely be a regular! The staff were all very nice and were very efficient as it was packed busy when we got there and you wouldn't have known it with how quickly or order came out. Definitely worth the stop even if they look crazy busy.
