Motor City Brewing Works Opens Second Taproom on Livernois in Detroit - Eater Detroit

"Linardos established the city’s first microbrewery on Canfield Avenue in 1994. At the brewing company’s new tap house on Livernois Avenue, which opened on Monday, July 12, Linardos has the opportunity to grow and refine that dream. The expansion is a long time coming. Linardos began scouting for a second location for MCBW in 2016, finally homing in on the Avenue of Fashion around 2018. The Livernois taproom’s cavernous space was left open to foster conversation and mingling. The menu includes items like the Banh Mi Oh My sandwich, vegetarian “beef” nachos, and a full line of brick-oven pizzas. Most of the beer served at the Livernois location will continue to be brewed at the Canfield Avenue microbrewery. In addition to perennial favorites Ghettoblaster Pale Ale and Nut Brown Ale, the Livernois taproom offers a small-run cider, a new summer ale, and a few canned cocktails." - Mickey Lyons

New Southeast Michigan Restaurants and Bars That Opened in the Pandemic - Eater Detroit

"Motor City Brewing Works established the city’s first microbrewery on Canfield Avenue in 1994. This new outpost builds on the owner’s desire for a comfortable neighborhood gathering spot. The staples on the beer list include Ghettoblaster Ale and Lager, Honey Porter, Nut Brown Ale, an American-style Pale Ale, an IPA and its small-batch hard cider. The food menu features unfussy but fresh and shareable items, like the Banh Mi Oh My sandwich, vegetarian “beef” nachos, and a full line of brick-oven pizzas." - Brenna Houck

This is a really nice place, inside is really well done, the outside area is good, pet friendly. The service is fabulous, and the music is great. I highly recommend stopping here for a beer. Parking is a trick, there is a gravel lot just about a block north with free parking. There is street parking too, but, good luck. 🍻 Oh, and good beer too, I didn't try the food. Pizza and chicken tenders kinda menu 🍻

Motor City Brewing opened back up a few weeks ago and thank goodness they did. This place is magical, the food is absolutely delicious, the ambience is relaxing and the service is on point. The outside of the building reminds me of a beautiful cottage in Port Bo, Spain. Did I also mention that their fried chicken sandwich is divine? This place is a true gem, one that locals may know about and try to keep as their hidden little secret.

Google
So my question to the manager is : How can you not only serve a pizza with very little toppings but also a black burnt pizza on the bottom. And it smelled terrible! I need some answers!!! This is ridiculous... we couldn't even eat this. And I even tipped you

Google
So excited for their second location. Awesome pizza as usual plus cocktails on draft. Hoping they expand their outdoor seating while the weather is still nice.

Google
The beer was good, as was the hard seltzer. We really liked the brick oven pizza. They have outdoor seating under tents, and the inside is beautiful. It's the oldest building in the area. The beers rotate.

Google
Two things. One about food. One about beer. Both are hot takes. First, the new chefs recipe for chicken fingers. Good Lord. It's light. It's crispy. It's not heavy. They may be the best chicken fingers in Detroit. Second, Motor City Brewery should be counted as a the best in Detroit. Their only problem is they've been around too long and they make beer real people drink. You won't find 10 beers that are IPAs with 8% alcohol by volume. Their flagships, Ghettoblaster and Nut Brown are 3.8% and 5%, but they are both fantastic. Service is always excellent at the Livernoia spot. Got nothing but love for this place. Hopefully New Detroit doesn't destroy it like everything else.

Google
Tomato Basil bisque or marinara sauce? That is the question. Three stars because the pizza was excellent. Godfather is a must have, bronx is an easy second. The architecture thooooo….. Just make a bisque not a sauce please

My wife and I arrived as they opened. Our order was placed quickly. The food arrived quickly. I had the double burger and my wife had the chicken sandwich. We shared the garlic parm fries. The food was excellent. A definite go back for us.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by this location on the "Ave of Fashion". It was quiet, partially due to it being a Sunday afternoon and also UDM being out for the summer. Great reuse of the old Hunter's Supper Club. This will be a great place to hang out in the wintertime as they have a ski-lodge feel with a nice fireplace. Service was great! Also, all the food was really good here. We had the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich, burgers, and chili. The four different types of donuts were fun for the fam to share. On to the beer... Since this is not the main location, they bring the mainstay beers over from their Midtown location. They did have a couple seasonal brews that they brewed on-site. There was a nice diverse selection of beers on tap, including a cider and a barleywine. Overall, a great experience with the family and a nice relaxing Sunday afternoon.

Yelp
This is the Northern tap room for discovery. Located in the newly rebuilt Avenue fashion in Detroit. The front is a nano sized brewery, and they have a large grass space with lots of tables to eat outside. Inside is a large room, clean and nice, with a bar. They do serve food upstairs is unfinished balcony type area that they are converting into a space for private parties.

Yelp
Love love love being able to walk to Motor City from my house! (And we have been lately, about once a week.) We've tried a lot of options from the menu - favorites are pizza (of course), banh mi sandwich, and burgers (both beef and black bean are awesome). The spinach and artichoke dip comes with warm bread and definitely worth ordering. I'm a huge fan of the vegetarian chili also especially for this part of the year. The nachos were lackluster relative to other items - the consistency of the cheese seems to vary day to day. The servers are all fantastic BUT like everywhere they're short-staffed sometimes. To make things easier, I don't recommend doing the build-your-own-pizza option or making huge changes to menu items unless you need to. This is still a new location and they're figuring everything out as they go. Be kind!

Yelp
So let's get the bad part out of the way... I had a pizza that I didn't really enjoy. The dollops of mozzarella couldn't hold the toppings on the pizza so when I tried to eat a slice everything kept falling off. The "Blue Sunshine" gin cocktail wasn't that great either... I did have the hard cider and that was good. The bottom line... I don't think the food is the star here. What does make me really like this place is the atmosphere. Me and a couple friends sat on the patio drinking on a perfect night, and it just felt good because this neighborhood does not have any other spots like it. You had to go to Ferndale to enjoy a place like this prior. If they step up the mixed drinks, I might be here a lot more. Prices were definitely affordable. I recommend coming here to have some beers/drinks and hang with friends.

Yelp
Stopped here when we needed some outdoor dining (soccer player chose not to bring street shoes for after game lunch). This is a really classy little microbrewery. I didn't sample a beer but I really think If this your speed I would add a star We had perfectly seasoned fries and a really good hamburger. The service was excellent and I think it would just be a splendid place to drop in during a day of shopping

Yelp
Came here for lunch. I was little hungry but don't want to eat meat so decided to eat beans burger. By the way today is just 2nd day of opening lunch hour so I was lucky Only 2 are customers. So hospitality was super great. Our server is so nice ! Very nice . Very homey and welcoming. I love that! I know not many Asian coming this area and this time slot. By the way They don't have fright yet so we just order pint . We asked if they can spirit to 2 glass. They said yes! Thank you. Beer ( light one) was so smooth and refreshing so bought gower ... food is ok but coming back!

Yelp
Fabulous. Great location on Livernois (nicknamed the "Avenue of Fashion") between 7 Mile and 8 Mile. The taproom is directly across from Kuzzo's Chicken & Waffles and down the street from the famous Baker's Keyboard Lounge (world's oldest jazz club). MCBW Livernois Taproom has a nice indoor space and an awesome beer garden. Great beer and food. Here's the current hours (make sure you double check before you go): Monday:  closed tuesday: 4:00 pm - 10:00 pm* wednesday: 4:00 pm - 10:00 pm* thursday: 4:00 pm - 10:00 pm* friday: 4:00 pm - 11:00 pm* saturday: 4:00 pm - 11:00 pm* sunday: noon - 5:00 pm *the kitchen closes 60 minutes prior to the bar

Yelp
I was surprised to find this place less crowded than I expected considering how busy the little neighborhood was on Saturday. We managed to get seats at the bar and I have to say that's one of the things I really liked about it...the ambiance was great, not a big place but small and homey. The IPA I had was good. A solid beer, I would've liked it colder but completely drinkable and the kind of entry you would expect from a good brewery. We shared the crab dip and it was good too, different from normal and a bit spicy, loved the hot bread loaf but could have been a little bit bigger. I wish I had been hungrier and ordered a pizza, they looked delicious but overall a great place and we'll be back.

Yelp
Went to the Livernois location on a Sunday afternoon and we were the only people there. Had good beer, great spicy pizza, excellent music, and enjoyed the fireplace. Yes, we would go back.

Yelp
I missed this location while it was closed. I am a Ghetoblaster fan and this location had delicious seasoned French Fries. I need to go back now that they reopened. Parking was easier than near Wayne State.

Yelp
Great food and service. We've been several times since they opened and haven't been disappointed.

Michael M.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the ambiance. The server was extremely pleasant and the music was both soothing and relaxing. The ribs absolutely slapped! So tender!! The fries were perfectly seasoned. My partner wasn't a big fan of the shrimp tacos. Said they had too much going on with them. Anyways, I really enjoyed my 1st experience and the cream is to die for.

Yelp
This place is the best hopefully I come back soon I like the workers they were very

Yelp
I am so lucky this is in my neighborhood! The beer is great, many choices on tap. I had the southern fried chicken sandwich, which was delicious! Service was friendly and fast. I like cold draft beer, but opted tonight for the draft hard cider, which was the best I've had, very fruity and crisp. They also had two cocktail choices. They had outdoor patio seating options. The indoor space has raised ceilings, and the tables are spaced out. There are sandwich, salad and pizzas on the menu, with vegetarian choices as well. I'm going back to try the pizza! And hopefully dessert, which sounded great before I filled up from dinner. Maybe dessert first next time?!?

Barb C.

Yelp
I love this place! I have been here several times since they opened. The staff is great- especially Tate. I mostly go for a couple of drinks, but have eaten here twice and the food has been on point both times. I'm so happy to have a place close to home that I can hang out and enjoy.
