Casino workers in Detroit are on strike to demand higher wages, increased benefits, and job security after years of making concessions during the pandemic - Eater Detroit

"Nia Winston, president of UNITE HERE Local 24, tells Eater that each department in a casino complements one another to round out the experience for the average customer... Winston has been a union organizer for going on 20 years, but before that, she too was among the first wave of workers hired by the casinos in 1999. She told Crain’s Detroit in a 2021 interview that she worked as a cashier at Motor City Casino when her eyes were first opened to the power of workers at the negotiating table." - Serena Maria Daniels

A Fantastic Experience with Andrew, Our Casino Host I wanted to take a moment to shout out Andrew, who has been an outstanding casino host. From the start, he made us feel welcome and well-cared for. Not only did he help us with a spa reservation, but he also went above and beyond to ensure that everything was arranged perfectly. What really stood out, though, was his attentiveness and the personal touch he brought to the experience. We had some wonderful conversations about family, life, and everything in between. It was refreshing to connect with someone so personable and genuine, making our stay feel even more special. If you’re looking for someone who truly cares about making your experience exceptional, Andrew is the host to ask for!

The hotel is beautiful. The 🎵 wall is everything, sure dope with all the artists that was featured. Mr. Anthony was super sweet with telling us how to get around and helping us with our luggage til the room was ready. Will definitely be back for the casino this go round we just came to support Clarissa Shields and the Little Caesars arena. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Pretty good experience. I think more smiles from the staff is needed. I'm more diverse staff is needed. From all types locations in Michigan is needed. Possibly different type of atmosphere music. At least one or two upscale stores inside the place it would be perfect

Consistently great service and a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. I stay at MotorCity Casino Hotel whenever I’m visiting the Henry Ford Cancer Center, and the staff always make the experience easier and more comfortable. While it’s not as flashy or bougie as the MGM, the service here is far more friendly and reliable — and that matters more to me. The rooms feel cozy, the check-in process is smooth, and the overall vibe is relaxed but professional. Highly recommend for anyone looking for comfort and consistency in Detroit. #MotorCityCasinoHotel #DetroitStay #ComfortOverFlash #ConsistentService #HenryFordHospitalTravel

Had very bad experience at red lantern the food I ordered they put too much rice in it. The sauce was very spicy too much sauce. It was so hot that it burnt my mouth and the egg roll that they gave me with my meal was so fresh that had grease still in it and when I’ve been into it, grease splatter all over my face in my shirt, my brand new shirt Not very happy will not go back to them I can’t post a picture on there for some reason, but I am taking a picture

From the moment we arrived, our experience was fantastic. The complimentary valet parking was a great start, and the staff throughout the hotel were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Despite a busy check-in time, the front desk team made the process smooth and efficient. Our room was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. We stayed during The Weeknd concert, and the hotel’s shuttle to the event was a huge convenience. While the return shuttle had a long line, we found an alternate way back without any issues. The on-site casino added to the fun of our stay, it was lively and a great way to unwind after the concert. We also appreciated the hotel gym and spa, though it’s worth noting that spa amenities like the hot tub require an additional fee.

My Wife and I haven't been to this Casino in a few years. It was nice to go back and hit the slot-machines. We had a really great time. We didn't win, but we didn't lose that much, either. It's a very well run Casino. I would recommend this business to Anyone. My only caution is if You find yourself losing time after time, it's best to walk away and try again another day. I always have a set limit of losses. Once I exceed that amount, I am done for that Casino visit. I cannot review the Hotel details because I have not ever stayed in this Casino's Hotel. I hope that this helps.

Google
Rooms are super nice. Bartenders could be a little more attentive. ID’s are required for access to the casino but yet my son was carded at the bar. The casino smells like cat pee. No idea why, but that is the only complaint I have. Not a bad spot but it is Detroit so my expectations were low.

Yelp
I had a wonderful time here! Checkin was a breeze. Receptionist was super friendly and informative. We even got free shuttle to our Madonna concert! We had a great time playing at the casinos. Rooms were spacious & clean. I loved the giant soaking tub. Only negatives were food and drinks. All bars had limited bar tenders and they are kinda sparse. I'm used to multiple areas to get drinks. Food court options are limited. Do not go by website. We DoorDashed a couple times.

Yelp
My favorite casino in Detroit and the only one i can come out ahead in bucks! Not by much, but i can at least eat the next day without panhandling!

Greg D.

Yelp
Horrible experience. Every shower towel I went to use had clusters of long hair in them. Management unwilling to provide compensation for my experience. All staff are rude and unwelcoming. Do not recommend!!

Yelp
STAY HERE!!! It's my third time staying at this hotel. Every time I visit, the staff is courteous, knowledgeable, and very informed about what's going on in the city. The parking garage is well-lit and secure, the rideshare pick-up location is easy to get in and out of, and there's always someone available to help you with the door with your luggage. The rooms are a great size for multiple people, with closets and drawers for long stays. However, the bathrooms are a little outdated but still nice and I usually have to clean after the cleaning crew. The venue inside the hotel (Sound Board) always has something to see, the casino areas are nice and clean, and there's late-night food available if you need it.

Yelp
I'm really disappointed in this place...my bathroom is filthy and they act like it's no big deal. Didn't offer to change my room and I have been waiting forever for them to clean this mess!! These rooms aren't cheap! Do better Motorcity, and no I did not use comp to pay! I have video but I can't upload here. My google review has an actual video

Tina M.

Yelp
Fun place to visit. Cleaning could be better but overall not bad. Can get pretty loud on weekends, so do not plan on coming here to relax and sleep!!

Yelp
I do not recommend this hotel. There were a few employees who were happy, but most employees were miserable. It is normal to meet a few people who are having a bad day, but most of the employees being unhappy is an issue. The rooms were good. Nothing special but good and that is why I gave 2 stars. I stayed for 3 nights and the peraon at check in said there would be no cleaning service. If I knew this, I may have picked a different hotel that offered normal hotel services at the same price as this hotel. I walked through the casino on 2 different days and times. Neither day had any energy. It started with the security guards. They are the first thing I saw and they clearly did not want to be working. Now in the casino was more of the same. most tables were closed and there was no (absolutely zero) energy. It was mostly the walking dead playing slots. I have never been to Detroit so maybe my expectations were too high. All I am saying is that I will not stay here again. If I have to come back to the area, I will find a different hotel.

Brian U.

Yelp
Extremely disappointed in every way. Don't make the same mistake I did. Pick one of the many cheaper and higher quality options in the area. Charged $300 per night for luxury experience and every luxury offering was closed for the entire 3 night stay. All restaurants closed, spa closed, no room service, no microwave to reheat food we had to buy outside of hotel. No shuttle service. Walls extremely thin. Lost entire night of sleep due to overnight party next door. Hairs not cleaned from bedding. Carpets stained everywhere. Toiletries not restocked. Employees blocked access to parking. Front desk ignored my call to seek resolution. VP ignored my voicemail to seek resolution. Do yourself a favor, never stay at the Motor City Casino Hotel.

Yelp
I was taking in a concert at Sound Board and decided to make it a staycation. The deluxe guest room features a king size bed, deep soaking tub with separate shower. The tub was the reason I was there. It is AMAZING!!! The LED adjustable TV has ChromeCast enabled so I was able to watch movies from apps on my phone which I found pretty good. The experience was everything I anticipated it being and more.

Yelp
This is usually my fav place in Detroit when I visit from Vegas. I love the food here, especially the soul food Sundays and brunch. The gift shop where I can use comps & the VIP perks we get. Lately, the rooms haven't been up to par and a lot of the sheets & pillow cases have stains on them or rips/tears. I think it's time for an upgrade because as pricey as Motorcity can be per night, that isn't acceptable. Overall, it's in a convenient location for me and the customer service at the front desk has been OK, could be better.

Yelp
Customer service was good but the room was dirty and not well maintained. Housekeeping needs to be improved.

Yelp
Absolutely terrible. My first time ever staying at a casino hotel and it was a complete disaster. The 1st day, I have NO neighbors or hardly anyone down the hall. I thought this is good it's gonna be a quiet night. Boy was I wrong. Motorcity casino decided it would be a grand idea to put 5 loud obnoxious young adults in a room next to me that's so close together cause they are conjoined rooms with 2 doors shut. Now these guys are literally screaming at each other, slamming the doors. Running up and down the hallway like a bunch of lil kids. I called TWICE down to the lobby only to get hung up on. I then marched in my pajamas to the lobby directly and explained the situation. About 20 min later I'm pretty they either moved them or kicked them out. Idk. The next day. I'm gone for most of the day and get back to my room and found a dead roach lying plain as day on the bed. My head about exploded right then and there. But I ended up keeping my cool cause I'm here and not in jail. There was a cleaning crew outside my room and I ran out there to flag them down. A cleaning crew member named Christopher visually seen what I seen and was himself "grossed out" I then March to the manager this time. I explain BOTH days and he casually walks away and dissappears for about 10 min. He comes back and says sir the only thing we are able to do is give you a 75 dollar rebate. A 75 dollar rebate??? For all of this. Not even gonna move my room. I can guarantee if this happend to him or his family they would be put in the pent house with free dinners, drinks and free play. 75 dollars was a complete INSULT and I will tell everyone I possibly can how gross and unprofessional you all are and to not go. Make this right and contact me chandnoitc@gmail.com or don't. I'll do this for a looooooooong time

Yelp
DO NOT STAY HERE.... Rooms are nasty dirty. Changed rooms twice and no improvement because they don't maintain the place. If you mention anything to the staff they get rude and antagonistic. Came here for business... would definitely not return.

Yelp
I was so excited for my one night stay in the king suite. When I arrived at 5pm my room was ready and all ready to enjoy. Unfortunately, the room was filthy. The title floors were dirty , like mopped with a dirty mob. The dresser had splashed bbq stains near the bottom. Under the bathroom sink sticky paper and dust in the cracks. I complained to the front desk they were not very empathetic. Just saying the manager said move you. My next room the same dirty floor problem with dust all over the dresser.

Yelp
For all that is good on this world, DO NOT STAY at the motor city casino hotel if you can help it. The room itself is fine, but everything else about it is terrible. From the location to the food to rules about "quiet hours"- do yourself a favor and stay in a better part of the city where you have more options for things to do and interesting things to partake in-unless you're really hankering to go to a casino i guess.

Yelp
Winning is like pulling teeth. It's agonizing because you keep losing. I lost my butt today. If you want to lose money, this is the best option.

Yelp
Nice property, but the so-called hospitality staff must have learned their courtesy skills in prison. There is nothing warm or friendly about this place, and no one who works here smiles. Customer facing personnel, such as front desk, should have some type of social skills beyond that of a chain gang.

Yelp
MCCH is a little more than 20 years old and it is starting to show. Peeling wallpaper in the hallways, sporadic strings in the carpet, worn-off finishes on the wood furniture, broken marble sills in the bathrooms (that will gauge you if you are not carefulp!), time is beginning to take a toll! What is more, there is some neglect happening as well, beginning with surfaces that aren't cleaned well (check my pics). After our sink backed up and black specks came up from our drain, we called guest relations. The custodian had to pull off the drain assembly to reveal a nasty sludge buildup before being able to clear it. Being a homeowner, I understand the necessity for these periodic cleanings, but I would hope they would not be necessary in front of guests? Based on previous experiences, I definitely expected better from MCCH than all of this. Lastly, an hour before we checked out, a housekeeper entered our room unannounced. Good thing we were "appropriately" enough dressed to greet visitors and not engaged in other "activities". She apologized, saying her app indicated we had already checked out, which the front desk at our ACTUAL checkout confirmed. Apparently, we had left hours ago already. Before the pandemic, MCCH and the Iridescence (now unfortunately permanently closed) had become our preferred destination to celebrate anniversaries and special occasions, I think it is time to find a new place to celebrate and make memories?

Yelp
This is a hotel attached to a casino The entrance to the hotel is the entrance to the casino This can be off putting because it has that skeevy Las Vegas vibe and smells like smoke. Even the carpet has that 1970's abstract wave look. Once you check in and go up to your room, the experience is totally different. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The bathrooms have a shower and tub and are spacious. The decor is art deco. The views are nice if you focus on the far (downtown skyline) versus the near (parking lot and urban prairie). If you want to understand and experience the anguish and pathos of urban decay and renewal stay here. The hotel and casino is in the middle of an urban prairie next to an emerging neighborhood (Corktown). But beware, gentrification has not set in yet so running out to get supplies (water) or things you've forgotten (an iPhone recharger or power cord) will be difficult.

Yelp
Stayed here for a couple nights for Thanksgiving. The room was average, not really impressed but I was there for the casino and Thanksgiving Buffet. The casino wasn't too busy and had a lot of fun. The buffet was amazing!!! Most of the usual buffet plus all the Thanksgiving regulars and the price was as $40...which I think was a very good price for all you can eat, especially at Thanksgiving. Some of the banquet halls are charging more than that (hope Motor City Casino doesn't read this!). Not to mention the food was very good.

Yelp
Great room, spacious and well appointed guest amenities. Could use a little more fresh are and a lot less fragrance. Easy to park, or valet if you desire. Didn't have to walk far at all from parking to the hotel, so it was super convenient. Plenty of quick, efficient, & affordable pick-up from car services if you are planning to visit other areas of Detroit City. The staff at the front deak are likewise efficient and attentive, and the experience was almost zero wait time. Well stocked gift shop with plenty of personal items in the event you've forgotten to bring something along.

Yelp
Would stay here again. Great proximity to most downtown attractions. FREE parking big plus. Room was nice except for sticky bathroom floor, not so clean carpet. Bring house slippers. Good view of downtown & responsive room service. Would recommend eating at local restaurants as Detroit has good food.

Yelp
We recently stayed here for a weekend trip to Detroit. We had no expectations going into this because we booked the hotel through a third party site and this hotel was chosen for us at random. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at the hotel. From the outside, it looks a little dated, but the inside is fairly modern. Our room was very nice and spacious, which we appreciated. We had a beautiful view from our floor to ceiling Windows overlooking downtown Detroit and Windsor Canada. We both decided that we would stay here again in the future. The best part of it all was there parking was free! We truly appreciated that as sometimes downtown hotels will charge $40-50/night for parking!

Robin R.

Yelp
This so called Luxury hotel was far from that. They were overpriced and the VP of Hotel Services Fred was rude and condescending. Had several issues with this place including the picketing workers harassing guest to the lack of restaurants and activities opened. Only breakfast option was the buffet which was way over priced. Even small hotels and motels have a free breakfast option. When I tried to speak to Fred he made me feel like I was lying to him instead of taking my complaints seriously. He kept telling me I could check out. Is that how you would want to be treated. Overall I would never stay here again Hundreds of dollars wasted.

Todd M.

Yelp
Bed bug infested and filthy. We found bed bugs and reported it to the front desk. They seemed very unconcerned but gave us a second room. Upon arrival to that room it was immediately visible it had a bed bug problem too. We decided to leave. Upon leaving we told the front desk we were not staying due to the filthy conditions. We asked for a refund for the night we weren't given one. Offered a $50 food voucher. Gross. Beware of this place.

Yelp
Seems like this hotel is barely holding on. Services are unavailable (room service) most of the time. It's just not a lively environment in my opinion. I'm speaking of the hotel only.
google avatar

Ray R.

Yelp
Stayed here while visiting some family and the hotel has everything you need including 24hr entertainment in the casino. The hotel is just outside the perimeter of downtown but it's pretty convenient because they do have a shuttle that will take you to downtown and runs about every 15 min or so. The view from our room wasn't bad, which we would of been on the city side so we would of had a view of the "D". But the hotel is safe, clean and for the most part the staff is pretty friendly. Only complaint I have is the hallways had a constant smell and haze of marijuana. I get it Michigan made it legal but you shouldn't be able to smoke in rooms. So just be prepared to get a contact buzz as you walk to and from your room.

C A R O L Y N H.

Yelp
Motor City Casino is the only casino that allows their entertainment venue, #Soundboard to refuse paying customers a cup of water or ice! They make you buy a $4 bottle of water in order to get ice while in the casino you can get both free! I don't understand why this is allowed! Do better #motorcitycasino

Kathryn M.

Yelp
Have stayed at MCCH before pandemic and enjoyed the hotel. Stay to go to a concert and get a massage. I'm shock at how the cleaning is not kept up. Carpets needs to be changed, curtains should be cleaned. Pillow had holes, sheets should not be dingy with spots, surface not wiped properly. Bed headboard not wiped down can see handprints. Disappointed regarding the effort to have a clean room especially on the cost you pay for a room. MCCH, I blame you and your housekeeping management. Hotel makes to much money to not invest in your cleaning staff.

Yelp
I would have actually given this place a 5-star but had to keep it within 4-stars because the area was just sketchy outside. However, with that said... the actual hotel lobby, valet and room were incredible. I got to the hotel valet and they greeted me really quickly and got my vehicle taken care of. When I went to check in the lady was super helpful and friendly. I got a king suite on the 15th floor. The place was like a mini condo! Had a half bath that just had a toilet and then the room had a connected main bathroom that had a tub and they provided bath salts to soak in. It also had a stand up shower that had all sorts of gadgets which I thought was super neat. The vanity are with the mirror was also very spacious. The bed is extremely comfortable. I could sleep there for days. The curtains were automatic with a touch of a button you can choose sheer curtains or black out curtains. This place had a small kitchen area as well. No stove by has a kitchen counter, sink and fridge. There was also a dining table, living room area and a little study if you need to do some work. The ceilings were high which made this place even more spacious. There's happy hour with appetizers and continental breakfast. One of my favorite parts too is that they don't have the paper door tag that say do not disturb. Instead they have a button in the room that you click if you want your room made up or a button if you do not want to be disturbed. Such a great idea!!!! Also the way to get to the hotel elevators were fully secure with security guards to make sure you are staying in the hotel so no weirdos come in.

Yelp
Terrific accomodations. Unfortunately a bad coffee problem but no big deal. I wasn't going to cause a ruckus. I know how what people go through and it's hard to make a living and the work and to be busy at a hotel or in a casino at the same time. I'll be back anytime because this is the only casino I'll ever go to because I'd rather go to MGM but no way in hell because you guys have always been up and beyond what you have done for me. I've gotten a sweet before because of a bad time and I got a free room today. God bless you

Yelp
From the get go, customer service was excellent. When I stayed for an overnight business trip, I was upgraded for free to include breakfast the next morning as well as offered a king sized bed (I opted to just keep the double since that didn't matter to me). The room is very spacious, and includes gorgeous furniture. I added photos of the entertainment center/dresser/closet piece. I'll loved that there were 2 separate sides for hanging clothes. You just don't see that at most hotels. Plenty of drawer space, a safe, mini fridge, 2 robes, slippers, coffee machine with Starbucks and Tazo to choose from. My favorite area of the bedroom was the bathroom. Separate shower and bath. Let's talk bath now....it's not a jacuzzi but it's HUGE! Very clean and simple to use. The towel choices...they have wash clothes, hand towels, hair towels and those awesome oversized wrap around your body twice towels. I hate taking showers at a hotel and get out of the shower with only a half towel to dry off with. This ticks all my boxes. One nice little touch was the cotton ball/q-tip holder. Perfect for holding your toothbrush and those are toiletries I tend to forget to pack. Will have to come back for a longer stay next time.

Yelp
What a fantastic and large hotel! Upon arrival, the staffs were very friendly and welcoming. From the valet staffs, check-In staffs to the porters. One of the staffs insisted to carry my things all the way to my room. I had requested for a top floor room with the view to the city. The MotorCity Casino Hotel management honoured that request.  The room was absolutely wonderful! I had the Deluxe Double Bed Room. The Deluxe guest room is about 450 square feet with two full size beds. Deep soaking tub with separate shower. I had exclusive D.Tour Spa bath amenities, plush imported bed linen, in-room safe, a 42" LED adjustable TV, granite top desk with ergonomic chair, and of course complimentary high-speed Internet access. The hotel has several things going on inside it. They have restaurants and a food court. Plus other things. You get a complimentary breakfast and complimentary hors d'oeuvres in the evening. The food all around were great. My only complaint is ... There is no main front door to enter. So it can be a bit difficult finding your way around. The valet services are free, as I later found out if you're an overnight guest. I would highly recommend that if you are staying at the hotel, use the valet services. It can be hard to find parking plus from the valet entrance, you can walk right into the front lobby area. Without your key card, you can't use the elevators. I appreciated that level of security especially in a busy hotel as such. Overall, my first visit at the hotel went smoothly. The price I got for the 2 nightsI stayed was very reasonable. The next timeI come to visit, I'll definitely take more advantage of the things the hotel offers. The spa facilities for example.

Yelp
I've been coming to MotorCity since I was 21, and always wanted to stay in the hotel. After 8 years, I finally had an occasion to stay in the hotel. For those unaware, MotorCity is one of the three casino hotels in downtown Detroit. Due note, that Motorcity is in the 'outskirts' of the main part of downtown, and there isn't anything nearby... So you'll need to either take the shuttle, drive, or Lfyt to downtown attractions. If you're like me and stayed because of a Red Wings game, they do have a shuttle to Little Cesaer's arena (leaves 30 minutes before game time) but it's not walkable. Also, if you weren't aware, MC does offer free valet parking for hotel guests. There is plenty of free self-parking if you'd prefer to do it yourself. Check-in at the hotel was fast. The room (a corner superior king) was very nice and well appointed. The bathroom is the BEST part of the room with a deep soaking JETTED tub and a separate shower! Awesome! The hotel does feature 24-hour room service, but it's rather costly. If you don't mind walking, just head down to the food court. While I liked the room, there are couple things I'll knock points off for: 1) Daily amenities (like the coffee, water bottles, and soap) weren't replaced during my stay. 2) The tub had an overfill switch that shut off the water, and required maintenance to reset. While this is an understandable safety feature, it's possible to accidentally set it off (like when moving in the tub) and it is rather annoying. Overall, it's a nice hotel and a great bed. Def recommend to those visiting a game at LCA or for business!

Dirty and a bit run down, certainly needs a lot of work to be as nice as the price suggests...

Yelp
The MotorCity Casino Hotel is a full service casino and hotel.  They are very busy.  The building is ultra-modern though it is modelled after mid-20th century motorcars.  It is sleek looking and outlined in special LED lighting which creates designs on the face of the building that can be seen miles away.  It is enjoyable to look at, drive past and walk around. A downside I have about the place is the air exchange.  There is a LOT of smoking going on in there and nowhere for the smoke to go.  The atmosphere can be very thick.   Another difficulty I had with the place was the way the floors were laid out.  It was difficult for me to navigate from one place to another to return to a location that I was looking for.  I don't know if it is the floor layout itself or the position of the furniture and gambling equipment - it just wasn't pleasant.  It got a little weird when it was time to go and I couldn't locate the exit. The food there is VERY good.  I recommend it highly no matter which restaurant or type of food you choose.  Their entertainment is very good as well.  The floor staff and cashiers are all pleasant and hard working.  They are professional and exact in their dealings.

Yelp
Wow!!!!!!! The hotel where do I start!?! 400 bucks our room was our way in the back of the hall no where near the elevators. We thought check was 11 but the maid staff decided that 8:45 am was the perfect time to cackle and complain about all the guests rooms and not getting tips. EIGHT FOURTY FIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! No sleeping in there when the maid staff wants to scream in the halls. When we checked out we were offered a whole 50 bucks off. At that point I just wanted to leave. Very disappointing experience I would probably not come back.

Yelp
This hotel was quite a little gem in downtown Detroit. Located inside of the hotel is a casino. The hotel service was very good the room with excellent outside of the cleanliness of the shower which needed to be scrubbed with bleach! My friend said she got a good deal on the room but whatever last they took there they definitely made it in the casino LOL I usually don't lose that bad. I will say the DJ in there and the band that were playing were all that!!! I will also tell all my single women friends if you're looking for a husband that's the place to go. Lots of hard-working men out there, I was a little intimidated by the continuous pursuit with No effort on my part I was trying to win and I was not trying to get hooked up! LOL in fact I was probably a little short but it didn't seem to stop anyone! LOL overall it was definitely a night to remember and I had a great time. If I was in Detroit I would just go to listen to the band and a DJ they were all that!

Yelp
My family and I went here after having dinner just to walk around. The children thought it was different waiting on their parents. We took lots of pictures and danced in the middle of hallway.

Yelp
We booked a " Deluxe CORNER Room". What did we get a room in the middle of the hallway next to the Elevator Bank. The lodge diner restaurant is food that is rewarded and had to ask the guy to wipe the table down. He claimed that it had been wiped down but there was three spots that had something on it. Miraculously it went away with the wipe down. This management will lie to you because they are lazy and do not care. Update: We looked at the bill and somehow two alcoholic drinks got added t the bill. We add water only. Decided to discuss a with manager NOW that was a waste of time. Can I change this to a half star.

Yelp
My mom stayed at this hotel for a business trip and lost her bag there, she left it with the employees there because she had a later flight than her check out. When getting her bag, it was no longer there and we called the hotel about the bag and they basically called her a liar saying there was no proof of her forgetting her bag there or someone else getting it. They just don't want to admit they are at fault for not checking correctly on the tags who's bag was who's & my mom never got her bag. The guy on the phone had an attitude too. don't stay here!

Yelp
As a business traveler, the rooms are very nice. Tubs and shower very nice. Free valet parking and high level of security. They have an executive lounge on 15th floor but seem to let people who spend a lot of money at the casino in and it gets crowded early in the evening, out of seats and at times too loud with some 'questionable' people. (minus 1 star for that) So go later after the ''rush". They say not to take food out but I still people taking items all the time stuffing food in their pockets/jackets/purses they say nothing (but I've also seen it depends on who is taking stuff) They have shrimp, colas (no alcohol) and sandwiches.

Yelp
Disgusting... and that's being nice. Our room was super dirty, remnants of guests before us (old popcorn, used water bottles). Then while having booked a double bed, my sister and I were forced to sleep together because her bed had urine stains all over it. When "being compensated" for our troubles they gave us Assembly Line Buffet passes.. great right?! Nope. When we walked down to the buffet we were turned away for lunch at 11:00 (the time the lunch buffet was supposed to start) and told everything was closed and come back "later". So now we're hanging out waiting to use our passes, in yes, a dirty lobby area. No tables are clean the walls are disgusting. Very disappointed, this isn't the cheapest investment so you expect to have good service and cleanliness, you shouldn't.

Yelp
The best of the 3! This casino feels the most like Vegas of the three downtown casinos in Detroit. The vibe is always a fun one for they play some great music. The waitstaff is always really friendly and attentive. The rooms are big and comfortable. They have live entertainment nightly and we are never disappointed. Always a fun night out when this place is part of it.

Yelp
Upon our arrival we were greeted by an incredibly rude lady at the front desk. She made it seem like we were a bother by coming and checking in. Throughout the night we encountered many employees and there was only one waitress that was kind. All the other employees from bartenders to cashiers we spoke with were rude. The Covid restrictions here are some of the strictest I've had to deal with so far. While sitting with our party we were told to keep our mask on between drinks and if we didn't comply we'd be escorted off the property. When I asked the bartender what the difference is between us here at our seats, with no mask, or in our room together with no mask. She then again said that we could leave if it was an issue. I've been to the other casino/hotels in Detroit and I will continue to take my business there. Motor City is not somewhere I'll be going back to.

Yelp
Had a wonderful stay at the MotorCity Casino hotel. We decided to take a quick trip to Detroit for the weekend for a little getaway. Found a great rate on Hotels.com. Our room was HUGE, I was really surprised how big the room and the bathroom were. Everything was clean and pristine. The bathroom was very nice with a separate tub and shower and a water closet. The room was equipped with a fridge as well. The front desk clerks were very pleasant. The casino itself was full of interesting characters, lots of people-watching LOL. We enjoyed the live bands in the evenings. I truly enjoyed my stay at MotorCity Casino and would gladly stay here again while visiting Detroit.

Yelp
I have to say that out of the casinos in Detroit, I like MotorCity Casino the best. I've never had a bad experience, or a bad time at MotorCity. What I like the best is that I go to concerts often at the SoundBoard inside of the casino, so that's very convenient, and it's a smaller/more intimate venue. I also like all of the restaurants at the casino, as I have dined in at all of the restaurants, well except the Iridescence restaurant. But I always enjoy the food. I've also stayed at the hotel once before, and I had no complaints at all, very nice a spacious rooms. But most of all, I enjoy playing on the slots! I consider MotorCity to be one of my lucky casinos, so usually I hit decent when I gamble there. I was there the other day to meet family for breakfast at the buffet there. Afterward, I decided to go put a hot $20.00 in one of the slot machines, which then turned into $215.00, lol! So that was my good luck for the day! I definitely enjoy myself each time I'm at the casino, and I look forward to actually going to one of the concerts at the Soundboard again next month!

Yelp
Our hotel experience was perfect. All of the staff was very helpful and friendly. Our room was nice and we were accommodated well. However we did not want to go out for dinner so we tried the cuisine at the casino.....do not get the "Chinese" food??? It tasted awful and one of us ended up getting sick at 3 am really put a damper on our trip. Great place for a stay but I do not recommend the food.

Yelp
Staff at bars are great, security are more focused on personal relationships than the guests and making sure that guests know what is happening and if they can enter the casino at all.

Yelp
Such a nice hotel and the customer service is phenomenal. We got an adjoining suite on the 15th floor to celebrate my moms graduation. Soooo nice. I'm from here but no longer live here so this was a nice getaway. Can't believe I've never actually stayed at the MotorCity Hotel after living here all my life. I'll definitely be back.
