Hilton's New Hotel Brand Gives the Hostel an Upgrade - AFAR

"A hostel-inspired micro-hotel concept launching its first 100-bed property in the centrally located Marylebone district of London in 2020, designed to appeal to budget-minded urban travelers with compact, flexible rooms averaging about 163 square feet. Rooms can be connected in multiple configurations for families, larger groups, or work-focused setups and use space-saving features such as Murphy beds, lofted beds, and tuck-away furniture; guests are provided a sleep kit (eye masks, essential oils, vitamin bars), blackout shades, and a white-noise app to encourage better rest. The brand responds to research showing many hostel guests dislike rooming with strangers by offering privacy-friendly, connectable layouts, and integrates tech conveniences like mobile check-in and a Connected Room program that lets guests control temperature, lighting, TV, and window coverings from the Hilton Honors app. Commons areas combine a café, bar, and workspace with all-day grab-and-go eats to foster mixing between locals and visitors, and local hosts provide neighborhood recommendations. Pricing is described as competitive and market-dependent, and the properties participate in a major loyalty program with points-and-cash booking options, member discounts, and free standard Wi‑Fi; additional properties are planned in cities such as Lima, Dublin, Savannah, San Diego, Boston, and Washington, D.C., with aims for wider expansion across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific." - Michelle Baran

Pro’s: - beautifully designed - lovely windows frame the jungle - rooftop pool very nice - staff attentive Con’s: - as other reviewers have said, the rooms are REALLY small - these would be considered small in Europe. However, they were quite well-configured to maximize the small space - toilets have absolutely zero privacy - the acoustics actually amplify the sound as if you were peeing beside a microphone Overall, I liked the hotel. The room would be great for one person; for two, it was really tight.

We were here for 5 days of spring break and loved it. One can easily get taxis to all the Tulum cenotes, the ruins and beaches at Jaguar National Park, and many beach clubs nearby. All the staff were kind and helpful. The hotel is clean, very safe and well run. Just outside the hotel entrance is a wonderful courtyard surrounded by retail stores and restaurants, ice cream and coffee shops, etc. It’s a beautiful and well planned out area with lots and lots of vegetation, as well as various places to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. Live music is offered on some evenings while people enjoy drinks from the outdoor bar in the courtyard. We very much enjoyed staying at this Hilton!

The rooms are very small and not as nice or aesthetically pleasing as the rest of the property. But it is good for a solo traveler. Very affordable and an overall nice lodging accommodation. Not too far from town and just a real nice property. Very clean, per Hilton’s standards and a good staff. (2) complaints though - #1. I left an item and attempted to call the property goodness! several times and no one ever answered so I emailed. Someone emailed me back days later and it’s been weeks and I haven’t heard back. No bueno!! The 2nd thing is, my last night I decided to try out the beautiful pool area and it was about 45 minutes until the pool closed and I was denied a simple pool towel. That was the only time the pool/bar staff had been unpleasant and I unaccommodating; that was not a good experience at all!

Room is poorly designed. Booked a junior suite and the rooms design with the door is atrocious. Doors are huge and overlap on the room taking away from space- no need for a door anyways. The doors also tend to swing shut they don’t have door stoppers. So weird. So instead of feeling like a junior suite it feels like a cramped regular room with a weird insert for the “living”. No work desk, but they added a second bathroom to the tiny Murphy bed area. Murphy bed juts out over the sofa. I stay in hotels 100 days + a year and this might be the worst 4 star hotel room design ever. Lobby is well designed though and gives the impression it will be a good stay. Unfortunately not the case. Don’t believe the pictures otherwise. Service upon Check in for a Hilton honors gold member is incredibly bad. We run our corporate cards to where we are all gold Hilton members- Sofi, check In receptionist refused to acknowledge gold status. First receptionist in the world from Hilton that I’ve seen to do that. Said her manager Jose told her this was the way they wanted to run their hotel. Scam artist vibes. Glad I am only here for a night as I booked for a quick escape to the airport. The boutique hotels on the beach are much better.

The room was a little small but very clean and comfortable. The staff and service are so good very helpful and eager to answer any questions you may have. Most of them speak English very well and put the happiness of guests first. They also have a lot of knowledge of fun activities and good restaurants to go to around the area. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to have a good holiday.

The hotel is in a perfect location. In the middle of downtown and the beach. The hotel is well kept. The grounds are very clean. The staff were always very helpful. The bar in the front courtyard is excellent. I felt in love with mezcal! The hotel gives you coupons for that bar. Please use them. The pool area and restaurant were also very nice. The breakfast was on point. You are walking distance from many other food places. I felt very safe.

It's a really nice place! The staff is amazing! They're always willing to help, both at breakfast and dinner. It definitely has the best rooftop in all of Tulum. The food and drinks are delicious! I highly recommend it!

Overall, we have to give this hotel only three stars. There are two main reasons for this: The rooms are very small and the breakfast is not great. We knew going in that the rooms would be small, but they are not well designed for the lack of space. There is very little surface area to set things on. There is no place to unpack your luggage or put your luggage. Ours lived on the floor. We had a room with bunk beds and there was no place to sit besides an uncomfortable stool. The shower has no ledge to put any shower products (razor, soap, etc). Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are all provided. There is NO privacy in the toilet. The door is frosted, but you can see through it pretty easily. Same is true for the shower. The A/C works nicely. We ate breakfast every day here because we had a credit, but if we had not had that, we would have gone elsewhere. The rooftop bar and restaurant was nice. We got some nice drinks and the tacos were pretty good. Service was great (except one visit where I had to argue for the $10 credit). Actually the service and staff were great in all aspects! Very friendly and helpful. As for location, it’s not terrible, but it isn’t close to many places either. The sidewalks are sometimes treacherous, particularly when you have to dodge the cyclists. But you have a variety of places to eat, a couple shops to explore, some convenience stores close by, and are within walking distance of the Chedraui store (like a Wal-Mart). Lastly, bring your own entertainment. We are early risers and do most of our activities in the morning. When we came back to relax in our room, we realized the TV channels only had Spanish channels, with the exception of a couple sports channels and news channels. While I wouldn’t want to dissuade anyone from staying here, anyone thinking of doing so should be aware of the issues.
