Canadian Rockies Dining Guide to the Food & Drink Scene | Eater

"The lodge’s signature dining room focuses on high-quality, locally sourced proteins—free-range elk, bison, and caribou—presented in a refined, lodge-style setting that complements the property’s rustic-chic aesthetic and lakeside location." - Zoe Baillargeon

We celebrated our 38th anniversary at Mount Burgess Dining Room, and it was unforgettable! The setting is pure magic—breathtaking mountain views and the most stunning emerald-blue lake right outside the windows. The food was every bit as amazing as the scenery: perfectly cooked steaks full of flavor and decadent, delicious desserts to finish. The service was exceptional—warm, attentive, and they made us feel truly celebrated. For a milestone dinner surrounded by incredible natural beauty, amazing food, and top-notch service, Mount Burgess Dining Room is simply perfect!

I’m not sure if this was just a breakfast buffet issue, but I was rather disappointed with our meal this morning at the lodge. My friend and I stopped very early at emerald lake, and we explored and took pictures. We decided to stop in and have breakfast, but the buffet left a lot to be desired. It was really lack luster run of the mill hotel food. The eggs were really horrible. I did get to have some over night oats but everything else was pretty much from a package. The staff were pretty great, though. If you plan to visit emerald lake and have breakfast I would suggest the little cafe rather than the lodge. Especially since you have to pay an additional cost if you want any specialty coffee, anyway. The cafe food looked pretty good, and I was jealous of the people picking up their food as we were leaving our breakfast.

Delicious food — perfectly cooked scallops and great vegetarian options that felt really well thought out. Unfortunately the service was unfriendly and our table wasn’t wiped when we sat down so that kinda dampened the experience. Did not get the servers name as they didn’t introduce themselves.

Amazing food with an amazing view. I definitely recommend a reservation. The window seats are saved exclusively for them. We had the breakfast buffet, twice, because it was so amazing. For only $25 there were so many choices there was no chance of leaving hungry. A cereal and yogurt section, lots of delicious hot foods, bison sausage! Dinner was very good, albeit a bit pricy. I had the elk steak and it was pared perfectly with it's sides. The bison steak was bland and the potatoes were burnt on the bottom. We also had the pork belly. Delicious. The butterscotch pudding was a perfectly light end to a full meal. The only thing that could improve the experience would have been some music. We had to listen to the clank of utensils the whole time.

Stunning and serene location with amazing food and friendly service. Appetizers, mains and deserts were all amazing two nights in row. Possibly the best cheesecake ever.

We tried to make a reservation for hours in the afternoon the first day of our stay but no-one would answer the phone or call us back from the restaurant and the front desk wouldn’t make a reservation for us. We were really looking forward to a nice dinner with a nice view so we went to the bar early for a drink and then around 5:20pm walked over to the dinning room to get a table to eat. There was only one other table occupied, all other tables were empty including the seats near the window (see photo). We asked to be seated by the window but was refused because we “didn’t make a reservation”… We were seated instead at a seat near the back with a view of an alleyway. I asked when the table by the window is reserved for and they said 7pm, I explained that we couldn’t done well before 7pm but the rude hostess wouldn’t budge (it’s their policy). The service after that was even worse, the servers would disappear into the back for extended periods of time and we never had our drink order filled. We ended up walking out without eating. The kitchen manager was useless. The negative experience in the dinning room ruined our trip, we had been looking forward to it for months. We won’t be back.

We booked a Sky Dome experience, and I would give it 5 out of 10. Ambience: Perfect! Romantic, private, clean, cozy, they gave us an ipad for our own music which was awesome. Food: I liked 3 dishes out of 7 courses meal. The others were ok. There was hair on my food tho, which ruined my appetite a bit. Service: Before the dinner, we went to the lounge for a drink and the male server couldn’t care less about us. He spilled our drinks. and didn’t come back with the napkins until wayyy later. We had to use our serviettes to clean everything, and even though we asked him to put those dirty serviettes away, he didn’t. He also took like 15 mins to grab our bill even though there were 2 tables in the whole lounge. On the other hand, Loreain - our waitress for the Sky Dome experience was sweet. The only thing is, when I told her there was hair on one of my dishes, she said sorry just to brush it away, then never done anything about it other than taking my plate away. I found it very weird and inconsiderate since it’s very unsanitary. Don’t think I will come back tho because it wasn’t worth the price for those types of service and food.

The worst restaurant I’ve ever been to, order the chicken tostadas, and the bread was completely stale. Chicken tasted like it was two weeks old. It was absolutely disgusting. Couldn’t even take another bite and we sent it back then ordered the salmon dish and my tomato had mould on it. I took a bite and I completely spat it out. I don’t know what the chef is thinking, but this place is horrible and the prices are absolutely ridiculous. Never seen more expensive prices with the most horrendous food. The hostess herself, I asked her lime juice and she gave me the most out of the world look like she had no idea what I was talking about and ultimately gave me an attitude. The bartender made good drinks, but he was on his phone, the whole time right beside us when we were having dinner just blasting his phone while watching videos, completely unprofessional and unproductive. The hotel itself is what saved this place. Amazing customer service friendly and very helpful and the atmosphere is good but the restaurant needs to step it up to meet its hotel standards. The chef needs to be fired giving out spoiled foos like that.

Yelp
Excellent food and service, plus a beautiful view from the dining room! We loved everything, from the NA drinks to the bread plate with flakey sea salt to the well cooked game meats. Dessert had fun options and some great coffee drinks too. Highly recommend, even if it's a little splurge!

Yelp
Stopped by here for lunch while visiting Emerald Lake. The location is great--right in the lodge area near the lake, though you do have to walk up a bit to find it. When we arrived, the server told us we could sit anywhere. After sitting down, we waited quite a while before our server came back, which was surprising since there were only a few tables occupied. We eventually ordered the salmon fillet. We also wanted to order drinks, but our server never returned, so I had to go up to the bar to order instead. That said, the salmon fillet was actually really good and definitely the highlight of the meal. I just wish they had more food options, as the menu is pretty limited.

Yelp
Stopped at the Emerald Lake Lodge for lunch while visiting this beautiful lake. Parking is tricky as we parked in the lake viewpoint lot, since we weren't guests of the Lodge. The parking lot is large but fills up fast with tourists so many park along the main road leading up to the parking lot. The food here was outstanding! Our server wasn't very friendly or welcoming. She was too busy chatting with the bartender. Our food was served warm, so at least she served our food timely. I was so impressed with my salmon filet and potato & spinach tart! They were both sooooo good, I think my husband was jealous of my menu choice. He had the crispy fried oyster mushrooms burger with their soup of the day, chickpea marsala. He said his was good, but he was not overwhelmed like I was. We ordered the molten cake for dessert. My oh my, was it delicious! So dense and quality dark chocolate...yum! It was accompanied with vanilla bean ice cream with a melted chocolate on top that made a hard shell, strawberry slices and a s'more on a stick. Soooo frickin good! Compliments to the chef! Never imagined I'd be served such amazing cuisine at a lake Lodge. Overall I would definitely be back to eat their food, but servers could take a lesson in hospitality.

Yelp
WOW!! The food here was INCREDIBLE!! My husband and I were Lucky to stay at the emerald Lake lodge resort this weekend. This restaurant is in the main lodge and the food and service were FABULOUS! We had dinner here both nights and I HIGHLY recommend the mushroom risotto, salmon, buffalo, and chicken. Michelle our waitress was very kind. I would recommend anybody to dine here even if you are not staying at the lodge! But you must make reservations!

Yelp
Wonderful food in terms of quality, taste, and artistry. Check out the halibut with prosciutto potato pave, and a ham hock broth. The fish is perfectly cooked with great pork flavors mixed in. Recommend reservations. They use Open Table, which is also embedded in their webpage for the restaurant at https://crmr.com/resorts/emerald-lake/dining/mount-burgess/ Wine list is solid. Amazing views of the lake. One downside is very slow service. They seem to have staffing shortages like many businesses do these days.

Yelp
Amazing food, atmosphere and service!! HIGHLY, HIGHLY and I stress HIGHLY recommend the chicken and or the steak!! Our server Felicia was top notch; she knows the menu, knows the area, she's all around amazing! Be sure to ask for her, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
The dining room is not very large, so for parties greater than 4 people, it's hard to get a table without a reservation. For our party of 6, we didn't have a reservation since we were driving from very far away and couldn't pin down our timing, so initially we were told to go to the other side of the lodge's check-in desk for first-come-first-serve seating at the Kicking Horse Lounge for guests without reservations. After waiting 30 min and still no seats opened up at the Kicking Horse Lounge, it was getting late, past 7:30pm, and there happened to be one table of 6 that was still empty at Mount Burgess, so the server seated us even without a reservation. We ordered the foie gras & duck confit brulee appetizer (which tasted like a dessert!), grilled lamb chops, Brome Lake duck breast, Atlantic salmon, and Alberta beef tenderloin as our mains; and the molten cake and the raspberry curd tart as desserts. The beef tenderloin and lamb chops were absolutely amazing, very flavorful and tender. The Brome Lake duck breast was very interesting, complex, and delicious. The salmon was nice and tender. The raspberry curd tart was very good and not too sweet. The molten chocolate cake unfortunately was no longer "molten" (more like a solid) by the time it was served to us. We waited an extremely long time between our appetizer and mains, and between our mains and dessert. We were already tired from all-day driving to get to Emerald Lake Lodge, so waiting a long time for a table, and then waiting a long time in between courses added to our exhaustion. Overall the food was great, the ambience was great, but just be prepared to wait.

Yelp
Amazing food and friendly service in the beautiful lake-side emerald lake lodge. Duck breakfast so tender and juicy, highly recommended.
