"Mount Royal Park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted (of Central Park fame) and inaugurated in 1876. Since then, the 692 acres north of downtown, has been Montreal's unofficial playground. There are stunning views of the city from the various lookouts atop Mount Royal. Attractions include the Mount Royal Cross (first erected in 1643), Mount Royal Chalet, and Beaver Lake. On Sunday afternoons in summer, the Sir George Etienne Cartier Monument is surrounded by drum circles featuring hundreds of drummers. Montrealers make use of the space year-round, from jogging and enjoying family picnics in summertime, to skiing and tobogganing in winter." - Todd Plummer

"The heart, soul, and lungs of the city, Mount Royal (the Mountain) is a must destination for every visitor to Montreal. Designed by Frederic Law Olmsted — one of the world’s original landscape architects, who designed New York’s Central Park — the Mountain has tree-lined walking, jogging, and biking paths and offers the chance to ski, snowshoe, and skate in the winter. An oasis of natural calm in the center of the city, don’t miss the view (and a photo op) at the Chalet on top of the mountain, with its spectacular view of downtown and the rivers and mountains beyond. To learn more about the ecology and conservation of the Mountain, check out Les Amis de la Montagne and their programming of tree planting and other conservation activities." - Vox Creative
"A relaxing green space where I hiked up for views over Montreal, and where you can jog, picnic, or just people-watch in a calming park setting." - Matthew Kepnes
