How to Spend a Food-Filled Weekend in California’s Mount Shasta | Eater SF

"An eclectic taproom with mismatched furniture and a handsome, old-timey back bar that pours house-made beers brewed with Mount Shasta spring water. The Jalapeño Amber is recommended for sampling, and seasonal options rotate on and off the taps. A food menu offers sandwiches, flatbreads, and wings, and indoor games like shuffleboard, pool, and ping pong make it a place to linger." - Dianne de Guzman

If you’re traveling along Interstate 5 in California, a must place to stop is this brewery. The beer is delicious, the food is great, and the atmosphere is over the top. Kid & dog, friendly, with outdoor seating. Being near Mount Shasta is also a plus if you’re wanting to visit a great place within that area. The owner was attentive and answered all of our beer questions, as well as the brewery history, as he just bought it a year prior.

Google
As one reviewer said it, this place is eclectic. It’s a great find if you are heading over Mount Shasta and looking for cold, craft brew and a bite to eat. The hazy IPA was refreshing and the brat on a pretzel role was good. Menu is limited, Weed is a very small town, but certainly worth the visit.

Derelyn Howard

Google
We had a blast here. The atmosphere is very inviting and friendly and the hazy is delicious. We played cornhole, shuffle board, and a game of cards before we headed North. We will be back!

Passing through town, we had a fun evening at this place. Great beer and wine, tasty food, and friendly service (by the owner!) The vibe is so eclectic and warm. The decor is quirky and cool .There was fun karaoke with locals. A real feel-good time! It made me wish I lived here.

Michelle Maddux

Google
I stopped in here with my newly rescued dog Maybelline on the last day of a 9 day road trip. They have ample outside seating, the inside was the most eclectic brewery I've ever been in. The lager was perfect and friendly service too.

Briana Oesterle

Google
The building is awesome (it's an old Creamery) but the beer is even better! The new owners and brewer are really making it THE place to go in the area. Great people to talk with too. The food is great too! I recommend the Ruben sandwich. The Brewer smokes the corned beef in-house. Best wings in town, and they have a Brisket Bratwurst that is locally made. Whatever you order, make sure to grab a side of the beer cheese that they make with their own beer.

Arran Shea

Google
This place is well just cool. It is in an old Creamery. The beer was cold and the pretzel was amazing. Go into the other room and you have to order at the bar but they are supper helpful. Took my two kids and a friend and we had a good time.

Google
First time visiting, and we will definitely be back next time we’re on our way through town. The atmosphere was eclectic and welcoming, the beer was fresh and cold, the food was tasty and hot. My partner and I split the Reuben and added potato wedges (cut from red potatoes, bonus points for real potatoes!!) thank you Mt. Shasta Brewing for being a delightful pitstop on our journey through Northern California.

Yelp
I rate this place between 4 and 3 stars. Here's the 411. This is a brewery in an old creamy 2 blocks off the main drag. It's got funky retro vibes and it works for them. Order at the bar. Food was good homespun stuff but chips came in bags, Beer war good. Give this local place a try and let me know what you think

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place! The building is seriously so cool. So much charm. The food was delicious and the drink options were great. Staff was friendly. They burnt our pizza the first time and had to remake it, but gave us a drink on the house to make up for the wait. That was appreciated! I wish this place wasn't so far from where I live or else I'd be a regular!!

Yelp
I love this brewery! The New owners are so personable and kind. This is by one of the coolest places in Weed! Great beer! and amazing service.

Yelp
Great place, definitely worth the stop. We had the Lady De Luna (total 5 star beer itself, very unique) and both the hazy & west coast IPA which were impressive. Nice owner and clean place. Will be back next time in the area! Lots of LGBT crap everywhere but that's California for you.

Yelp
Stopped by this place for lunch on a weekday, and initially, we were a bit concerned when we found ourselves to be the only customers in the restaurant. However, our worries quickly dissipated as we ended up enjoying a good lunch experience. For starters, we ordered a pretzel with cheese, "The Works" brat, and the Cali Chick sandwich. The pretzel was absolutely delicious, and we loved the cheesy accompaniment. The brat, while good, would have been even better if it had been grilled to perfection. My friend, on the other hand, had nothing but praise for the Cali Chick sandwich, describing it as very tasty. To complement our meal, I decided to go with the Jalapeno Ale, and it turned out to be an excellent choice. The spicy kick of the ale paired wonderfully with the brat, enhancing the overall flavor. In summary, despite our initial concerns about being the only patrons, our lunch here exceeded our expectations. The standout items were the pretzel and the chicken sandwich, and the Jalapeno Ale added a flavorful dimension to the meal. I would certainly recommend this place and look forward to returning for another satisfying dining experience.

Yelp
We stopped in on our way up to Bend, OR from Sacramento, CA. It was just off the freeway which made it a convenient spot to stop for a beer and a snack. The building looks like an old school which is pretty neat. They had a decent selection of beers and bites. We got a sampler with all of the beers on time. Nothing was over the top or super awesome but it was good. The pretzel was delicious! Staff was friendly and helpful. SWAG: They had some shirts and hats and a few other items for sale. PARKING: They had a large paved private parking lot. Even if this place was packed, you wouldn't have a problem finding a spot. TVs: They had multiple and they had games playing.

Yelp
Great beer. Good food. Open for business We stopped in while visiting Weed and was happy. Yelp shows closed, but it is open for business

Yelp
Came in here for lunch while on vacation and everything was great! I know I know. It's a brewery.... BUT,the hubby likes coors light and they have it on tap! So that was a bonus! The owners are super cool and told us all the history of the old dairy and that makes it special. I got the pork sliders(comes with 4) and was Amazing. I had them add jalapeños and it made it that much tastier! The jalapeno beer was so freaking good and they added a pickle! I'm a pickle fan so that was a top notch extra! The weather was poopy but they had the heaters going so that was delightful! He had the fancy Reuben that has chimichurri sauce. Parking lot is huge, bathrooms are cute with suitcase tables and very clean. You can tell they love what they do and they love this place and you HAVE to come here.

Yelp
Did a quick stop on an adventure from N.California to N.Oregon. This was such a treat. The food was beyond delicious..I got a chicken sandwich it was the most tender chicken ever and had such a delicious mayonnaise..Yum yum it also included chips and fresh salsa the salsa tastes like they make it as you order it.My wife got the Flatbread it's like a huge piece of pizza lol..This was loaded with veggies and had a pesto sauce yum..We also got a pitcher to share a yummy golden beer..So smooth and tasty yum yum..The brewery had pool tables ,two pianos, cornhole, and was full of tables and booths..The second story had a huge dancing area and doors that led you outside with an amazing view of Mount Shasta..The perfect view..This place had it all..The service was awesome as well.. Definitely recommend this spot for beer, food and a view!!

Yelp
Soooo, I was excited to go here because we are in search of the best soft pretzel and beer cheese. What we've found is that along the way we have to unfortunately consume some poor representations. Yes this is one of the worst so far. Whomever thinks that " nuking" cheese is a good thing needs a reexamination of the chemical reactions that nuking food has on that food, the beer cheese was grainy and I venture to add contained no beer. I think the pretzel was from a box ( in fact I'd bet that blue box purchased at Costco). Not a contender at all. The brat dog was good and the chicken tenders okay too. Overall I'd not recommend coming here for food as there is just no love or originality in what the new owners are presenting on the menu. Now onto the beer. I did try the jalapeño beer with pickle and that was good. I finished with their porter and that was good. The other member of our party had the " rescue dog" wine - a red and once it finally warmed up to room temperature she commented that it was pretty good. The fact that 50% of the proceeds goes to local dog rescue groups is commendable. The final nail in the coffin for me was that because of an event going on outside we who were inside were not allowed to have our beer in glass- yet our wine drinker got hers in glass. We are adults and I asked for my porter to be poured in glass, but was denied so good luck Mt. Shasta brewery but this was my first and last time visiting your establishment.

Yelp
We LOVE our neighborhood brewery! They have a fabulous selection of their excellently crafted brews, ice cold and on tap! I enjoy a lighter beer hubby a little bit darker! Dog and kid friendly, great outdoor patio, spacious indoor seating, pool table and ping pong and games and is a great place to meet family and friends! The new owners Annie and Charles are locals and Charles is the brewmaster and really knows how to get the best flavors from his eclectic combinations of hops, fruity flavors and spices! A treat for any local or traveler every time! Plus, they have great flatbread pizzas, always crispy and golden brown with fresh toppings ! The menu has something for everyone! The facility is exceptionally clean and spacious and has room for your special events, weddings or birthday parties! Our dogs also want to thank you for being dog friendly, nothing like going for a nice walk around the Bear Trail at College of the Siskiyous, then slide into Mount Shasta Brewing Company Inc. for an ice cold drink, tasty flatbread, on the patio or in the brewery! Keep up the good work team! We LOVE this place! BEST PLACE IN COUNTY TO GET A DRINK AND RELAX! We recommend them to all our guests! Captain Michele @ Fun Factory Rentals and Tours-Powerboat Adventures!

Yelp
Legit beer and brewery vibes here! Like wow. Super friendly service too. While traveling to CA I stayed within walking distance to this brewery. So, of course I had to try it out. The west coast IPA was crisp, refreshing and not too hoppy. The sour called something about being naked and running around was also a yummy refreshing beverage. The five ounce pour was a speciality beer called Brett's Brew, I think, and was super interesting. It had a sweet aftertaste and the front taste notes were like drinking hay, if you bay were a drink. That's the only way I can think to describe it. All beers are made there. No guest beers. I rate them all 10/10!! Yahoo. Friendly service and cool vibes with nice music make for excellent ambiance. I know this review is repeating but...vacation brain does that too me. Cheers and happy yelping.

Yelp
This place sucked. They didn't even have IPA which is sad cause they only have like 5 other beer options. The only reason we stayed was because I ordered first and already paid. Food was okay. Super basic. No one in my group ordered beer which says something about their offerings. There was a notice of ownership change on the door. The place was empty. Walking up to order at the counter was weird and you have to bus your own tables because there is signage telling you to in large bold letters. This place is depressing. Lady at the counter wasn't friendly. Please do yourself a favor and skip it.

Yelp
So, we stayed here in the parking lot with our RV as part of Harvest Hosts. From that standpoint, it's a great place to go off the highway. As a compromise to the free spot to stay overnight, you patronize the business. We went in for a late lunch/early dinner and sat in the sort of add-on space to the left when you walk in. It was pretty warm inside. There were ceiling fans going, but, they weren't quite enough. It took at least 10 min for a waitress to come talk to us and then another 10 min to get our drinks. We ordered the chips and salsa, grilled cheese, and flatbread pizza. The chips and salsa were actually pretty good. I like a chip that's crispy without being hard to crunch and the salsa was spicy but not too spicy and had a really good flavor. The flatbread wasn't good at all. It tasted like a freezer pizza. The cheese was like something over processed and the olives came from a can for sure. It just didn't have a great flavor to it. The grilled cheese comes with onions (so does the pizza we got) and we asked for no onions on both because I'm allergic. The pizza didn't have onions on it but the sandwich had an almost obscene amount of onions on it. I took it back to the waitress because we didn't see anyone for a while after it was dropped off. To their credit, I had another sandwich within about 6-7 min. And, it was a different sandwich - I'd taken a bit out of the first one. So, because of the uncomfortable seating, the service, and the inability to read instructions, we're not rating this very high. We do appreciate the parking spot, though, and gave it three stars for that.

Yelp
Local brewery with a home.town vibe. Large indoor space and a nice outdoor patio. Service with a smile! Prices are good,. Looking forward to trying their food on our next visit. Pet friendly and free freshly popped popcorn are welcomed!

Yelp
Dog friendly courtyard with lots of seating was nice! Sandwiches were yummy and good sized. The beer and cider was great ! Cute place !

Yelp
Nice microbrewery. Had their porter which was good. I like the ambiance of the place and would certainly return on future trips up to Shasta/Siskiyou counties.

Yelp
An absolute must stop on I-5 between California and Oregon. Easily one of the coolest breweries I've been to and the beer definitely doesn't disappoint. Great dog friendly spot, even have a pet area outside. Shuffleboard and a pool table indoors to enjoy as well. The food was great as well, we ordered their brat and it was delicious. Nice balance of spicy and a somewhat sweet bread and sausage. The beer flight was really enjoyable, not a single beer was bad. Their cider really hit the spot on the hot day, but even the dark beers were really pleasant in the heat. The jalapeno beer is great, its got the perfect burn to make you want to keep coming back for more. I wish they'd had the Hazy and the cider in bottles to take, but can't really complain. Great stop, great beer, great food.
google avatar

Randy B.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots up in Shasta, love the beers, the jalapeño ale is awesome. last time I was there it was under an ownership change and the food menu looked revamped. Staff is always knowledgeable and friendly.

Yelp
Stopped here on northward drive in van for a Harvest Host overnight. Went inside for late lunch (2:30) and had a great visit. Cali Chick sandwich a beautiful concoction of chicken, bacon, pepper Jack cheese and tomato all on sourdough bread. Skipped the chips side and subbed a spinach and mushroom salad with blue cheese. Really satisfying salad. Paired it with a jalapeño ale which was best of this combo I've ever had. I've had some jalapeño IPA's in Texas and I think the hoppy notes blunt the jalapeño flavor because they came through beautifully in this ale. Just a little hear kick 10-15 seconds after you sip to remind you what you are drinking!! Nice. My bartender/server was really nice and welcoming. My only nit from 5 star visit is there are several signs on the door that dogs are not allowed inside, so I left my working dog outside while I dined. Halfway through my meal, 4 guys come in with their dog and no problem. Either dogs are allowed or they are not. I really don't like inconsistencies like this in customer communications. Great spot, love the inside and outside space. I'd stop here for a meal on my I-5 travels even if I wasn't doing a Harvest Host overnight here.

Yelp
Worst beer and service in the area. This place needs a SERIOUS reboot. Too bad that they don't focus more on their cider. It's excellent.

Jacob B.

Yelp
Awesome food and amazing customer service! I had the wings and they were hot and fresh. The buffalo blue sauce was tasty as well. I live in Oregon and travel to north California frequently. On the way home we decided to stop for lunch, It wasn't until I was back in Oregon trying to get gas I realized I had left my wallet behind on accident. I called the restaurant and they assured me they had it and the owner personally mailed it back to me. I am so thankful for the kindness showed by this establishment. Definitely our new stop in for lunch spot for our drives back and forth. A+
google avatar

Ron S.

Yelp
Bomb pizzas. I like the pizza sauce to ingredient ratio... try the jalapeño beer and jalapeño pizza... I really liked their Belgium beer too.. good job... Thank you - see you again sometime.

Bobbie H.

Yelp
As I have been this to this establishment since its inception, I always enjoyed its family-friendly atmosphere. It has been one of our favorite places for family events. However, the entire vibe of the premise has seriously declined since under new management. As has the volume of clientele, especially locals! Tonight we were celebrating my son's 28th birthday. His wife was not allowed to bring in his birthday cake(as we always have), my grandkids(ages 5 & 8), were not allowed to play on the shuffleboard nor any of the other gaming equipment(as they always have). :( Nonetheless, very saddening that this is what has happened to one of our favorite local "Family Friendly" establishments in town! :( If traveling, and have young children, I seriously advise you to not bring them here...... This will be our last visit!

Yelp
Great little stop on the way home had Ruben and beer sausage both with sauerkraut the humble cider was good.

Lori B.

Yelp
What could improve? The food and the service - it was terrible. I could have eaten better food at one of the rest stops along the highway.

Michael D.

Yelp
My wife and I just visited Mt. Shasta Brewing Co. in May 2024. To begin - they make amazing beer and have an awesome atmosphere located in one of the most beautiful areas. So - what brought us to this excellent establishment started with a beer I was recommended while dining at Sparkies (a local restaurant in Mt Shasta (which btw makes really good pizzas). Anyway - I ordered a Lady Deluna Rosehip Witbier at Sparkies- it was probably the best beer I have ever drank - seriously. Super good. So - we found out this beer is made by the Mt Shasta Brewery and that made the Mt Shasta Brewery a must first-hand visit. When we arrived we were met by 2 bartenders - Michael and a gal whom I forget her name - They were both super nice, the best hosts, and made us feel welcome and comfortable. We had the Lady Deluna Rosehip Witbier - absolutely awesome - and the Jalepeno Ale (a recommendation from Michael) - and the Jalepeno Ale was also simply amazing - and yes, served with a dill pickle - which was the first time in my life I had a beer with a pickle served in with it. The pickle nailed it - I could not believe how good that was. Anyway - we liked the beer so much we got a Growler of each to take home with us. I want to sincerely thank the Mt Shasta Brewery for crafting such fine beers and thank Michael and his co-worker for the kind attention and service. If you are in Weed CA you MUST visit this place - top notch.
google avatar

Nina P.

Yelp
5 stars for food and beer. Pretzel and vegetarian pizza were amazing, and the jalapeño beer with the pickle was great! Wish they had umbrellas outside, sitting outside was way too hot even though the weather was at mid 70s.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Wow, I LOVED this place! After a 2 week winery tour up the CA coast, I was READY for a beer. This place did not disappoint. The porter was phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal. I had the pretzel too, and that was great. They are dog friendly, the perfect spot for harvest hosts, and the service is top notch. Can't wait to come back next year!

Sarah B.

Yelp
Traveling thru Weed - this is our 2nd stop at the Mt Shasta Brewing. The new owners have really cleaned and brightened the space. There is lots to do while you drink - ping pong, karaoke, and shuffle board. Dogs are welcome outside. Kid friendly but because there is so much to do and such an open space; parents need to keep track of their kiddos. Now for the most important part, the beer is EXCELLENT. The Sour is really, really good and my husband enjoyed the IPA. We will definitely stop again when in the area.
google avatar

Gary R.

Yelp
Just a couple of travelers enroute to Seattle from L.A., stopped in Shasta for the night and always on the prowl for a good local brewery. From the outside it looks like any other little brewery but on the inside it's pretty cool! Like a little museum, lots of cool stuff to look at and a really fine back-bar. Oh yeah, their beer is really good too! Had a couple of different IPA's, both really good. In fact took a sixer back to the room! We'll be back.
google avatar

Lacey E.

Yelp
What a great place! While working in town this brewery quickly became one of our favorite places to frequent. The beers are so great, the Jalapeño with a pickle ale is a must try! The space is massive and always has events, live music and bustling with families, couple's and individuals just stopping on their way through. You can talk to management and have birthday parties or gatherings in this place easily and they even have a private space to have events. I scheduled my birthday here, and later a friends birthday! Everyone loved the beer. Management and staff were extremely accommodating. The new management has improved the space, it seems like every time I come in it's getting busier and busier. The decor, and ambience keeps getting better as it was pretty basic my first visit. The food especially the sandwiches, pretzels and flatbreads are perfect pairings and I even enjoyed the wine selection, as they are all local winery's! I am definitely stopping every time we come through here. Hope to be back soon!

Susan W.

Yelp
Surprisingly good food. The inside is very laid-back. Don't expect pretentiousness. It's just down home brewery style. we will be back! The flatbread pizza was delicious! Great salad and a good pretzel.
google avatar

Yelp
Fun and great atmosphere. We were happy with the size and selection of the flight and we were happy with the service. The food was good and went well for an afternoon of tasting. I loved the jalapeño Ale. Yummm

Yelp
We went to Mt. Shasta Brewing Co for dinner while staying overnight in Weed, CA. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great, and they're not dog friendly inside, so ordered food to go. The food was good, the staff was nice, and the service was quick!
google avatar

Yelp
Im hooked on their Jalpeno ale and they add a slice of dill pickle to the equation Wow will be stocking up on my next trip thru weed
google avatar

Peggy W.

Yelp
We are staying here for a night with our rig through Harvest Hosts. Lovely venue - repurposed creamery. Good food we both had flatbreads and soul it a salad. Tried the IPA , the Jalapeño Weed Ale and the Porter. Porter was outstanding.

Yelp
My parents, best friend and I were on a road trip from Vegas to Eugene and decided to make Weed a stop on our second leg of the journey. Looking for somewhere quick to eat we chose Mt. Shasta Brewing and I was a bit worried that a sit down restaurant in a sleepy town would take longer than we could afford but service was prompt and we were in and out in about 45 minutes. The space is rustic and eclectic, with wooden furniture, knick knacks on the walls, and TVs if you want to watch sports. My friend and I split a french dip with an added side salad so we could each have one. My parents shared the beer and brat combo and loved it, especially the peppers and sauerkraut. The french dip was packed with meat and perfectly filling for a light lunch. Was it the best meal I've ever had? No, but it was just what I needed after a couple days of gas station junk food. I tried the jalapeno weed ale, which had a smoky jalapeno flavor to it and it was good, though I couldn't see myself drinking more than one glass. Seeing how the dining options in Weed are a little limited, I'd definitely recommend Mt. Shasta Brewing if you're looking for a quick bite and a beer.

Yelp
Great spot just off the I-5. Very friendly staff. Great beers and super fresh delicious food. Very big seating area inside. Lots of cool stuff to look at. The service was great. Food was excellent! Everything was fresh. I'd highly recommend stopping in if you near Weed!

Yelp
Big shout out to this business and the people working there. I came in with a party of 14. We split into two groups. Pitchers of water and cups appeared on the tables along with menus and we were off to the races. There was one server and she did a fantastic job of taking drink and food orders. Food came out hot or cold as was appropriate. Not everyone was fed at exactly the same time, but we were there to visit and get to know one another. Some people had beer, some did not. Some had the special salad (Chicken and Bacon with mushrooms and olives and great greens) some had small pizzas and brats. Everyone left happy and some took food home. You gave us an amazing evening. Thanks

Yelp
Family owned brewery located in Weed, California. We were driving through on our way to Oregon and decided to stop for a bite to eat. Funky bar with big screen tvs to catch sports on. Lots of choices of beer, micro beer brewed on site. We had the German bratwurst with the works which included peppericinis, sauerkraut, mustard on a toasted hoagie. It was excellent! My daughter chose to split a French dip salad with a side of Caesar which they thought was good. She opted for a jalapeno ale which had a great luck to it. Overall it was a good place to grab a bite to eat. Service was good, fast, and attentive.

Olga N.

Yelp
This is my first time staying as a Harvest Host Guests. The staff is super helpful and friendly. They informed me of the requirements and food and beverage opportunities. I'll be spending the night as I travel north. I sampled their beer, had a salad and ordered a delicious pizza . I'll know later on tonight how the overnight stay went but I'll update my review. The place is super clean, staff is friendly and helpful and the food is delicious. Enjoy

Kerri H.

Yelp
I loved the feel of this place more than anything. The open warehouse door, local artifacts covering the walls, corn hole on the patio and a tabletop shuffleboard inside! The food was only okay- but the service was really friendly! My husband liked his beer but the cider selection was very limited- as in there was one option and it while tasted more like a sour than a cider, it wasn't bad.
google avatar

Jazzlynn L.

Yelp
We waited for 1.5+ hours and didn't get our food. Then was told that the kitchen was closed. And the waitresses never came to check in on us the entire time we were there. It was a local person who cleaned the table for us-- said he was just helping them out because the staff were busy!! It seemed like everyone else got their food -- we saw the people who ordered after us got their food too. We ordered two appetizers and a pizza so three plates. When the waitress refunded our money, she said they must have given our food to another table. We find it hard to believe that you can give three plates of food to the wrong table and not noticed, and the people at that table didn't say anything. I hope this was not due to racism since we were the only ethnic minority people in the restaurant, and the only one who didn't get food.

Darrel U.

Yelp
Good sandwiches but they do not have a deep fryer for fry's or tots, which I'm okay with, but there's no other option like chips or a side salad to go with the sandwich. If they would have that option, it would be a solid four stars. .

Kelly B.

Yelp
Our first time visiting. Great beer and super cool building with a view. Beer tender and service was excellent. Highly recommend.

Derek D.

Yelp
All the negative reviews are correct. Sat at table for 20 minutes with no service. Went to bat to order ... was told to go back to my table and wait. No one ever came. We sat for 45 minutes and never even got to order. We left. Avoid this place u less you have hours to kill.

Sam F.

Yelp
Stopped in for a harvest host overnight in our RV and had an excellent evening. Briana the bartender was friendly and attentive, their brewmaster, Marco was informative and friendly. We chatted about the future of beers and the interesting work they are putting into their new releases. The food was good and the view was excellent! Definitely worth stopping in!
