Where to Watch Portland Fireworks on Fourth of July 2018 | Eater Portland

"Though far from the river, the top of Mount Tabor, which rises gently from the center of Southeast Portland, offers a stunning and quiet view of the fireworks. Eater Portland’s suggestion is to start at the nearby James Beard-award-nominated Coquine for a romantic prix fixe dinner and some killer wine, followed by one of Katy Millard’s famous chocolate chip cookies at the top of the mountain." - Alex Frane

My family came here couple weeks ago! There are such a beautiful views but we felt b.a.d for the trees. Many trees got b.u.r.n from last summer! We didn't have chance to visit the Church because it's closing that day. If you want to visit the beautiful Church you should check opening schedule before you come!

Mount Tabor, historic elevation of northern Israel, in Lower Galilee near the edge of the Plain of Esdraelon (ʿEmeq Yizreʿel). Though comparatively low (1,929 feet [588 metres]), it dominates the level landscape around it, leading to the biblical expression “like Tabor among the mountains” (Jeremiah 46:18). It is first mentioned in the 13th century bce in Egyptian inscriptions of the pharaoh Ramses II. Its chief Old Testament association is as the site of the triumph of the Israelite general Barak over the Canaanite leader Sisera (c.. 11th century bce), under the inspiration of the judge and prophetess Deborah (Judges 4). Although it is not named in the New Testament, Mount Tabor is the traditional site of the Transfiguration of Jesus. The first churches on the mountain were built in the 4th century ce. At the summit of the mountain there are a Franciscan church and hospice and a Greek Orthodox church. From atop the summit, there is a panoramic view of Upper Galilee. Ruins of crusader fortifications are numerous. The mountain has fine woodlands

Beautiful view , but please be aware that walking distance of Israeli national trial that suggested by Google as 38 min took my family 2 hours and trial itself actually suited only for advanced hikers. I wish I knew it before taking my 70yo parents with me. We did it though, but I want to warn others!!!

Visited this place in October 2018 as a part of the Holy Land tour. A must visit place for Christians. Impressive church and a beautiful view from top. The tourist bus parks at the foot of the mountain and a van is provided to go on the top of mountain where the Basilica of Transfiguration is located. Another beautiful Orthodox church can be seen nearby. But our Israeli tour guide said the entry was prohibited there.

Accessible and convenient to reach by private car. A lovely hike to the summit trail is suitable for families with children.

Adventuring of spiritual journey to be here perfectly going by shuffle bus as we driving dangerously, in between rocks and ravines on that circling-roads to the top and seeing Harr-Megiddo valley down there !!!

Impressive views from Mount Tavor! Free access and a peaceful atmosphere. We drove up to the top — the road is narrow and winding, but totally manageable. At the summit, you’ll find the beautiful Church of the Transfiguration and several scenic viewpoints with wide, green valley views all around. Great spot for a short hike, a quiet picnic, or just soaking in the landscape. Don’t miss the forest trails around the top — very relaxing and shady even on a warm day.
