"You say margarita, your friend says mockarita and you both say pass the chips and salsa at Mountain Madre Mexican Kitchen & Agave Bar. Highly regarded for its extensive lineup of mezcal and tequilas, it is also known for its wizardry with Monday Mezcal, Jalisco 55 tequila, and fresh-squeezed citrus to mix up the closest thing to the real thing." - Kay West

Although we happened to go after a huge rainstorm we were still offered a seat outside. Unknowingly to us, there was plenty of seating but it was literally puddled with water. The hostess said she’d come back to wipe down the table and chairs. We then sat down and waited 15 minutes before we asked if we had a waitress. Street tacos were OK. Cocktails looked cool but we weren’t given a menu and shot from the hip. We went with the sampler. My husband had to drink 3 of them because they were smoking hot. Tip: Look at your table spot before you accept the seat!

If you’re ever in Asheville, North Carolina, do yourself a favor and stop by Mountain Madre Mexican Kitchen—this place is a gem! From the moment we walked in, the service was exceptional—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The vibe was cozy but lively, with a great balance of comfort and energy. Now, onto the food—absolutely delicious! The chimichanga was a highlight: perfectly crisp on the outside, packed with flavorful fillings, and topped with fresh, crunchy slaw. It was sitting on a bed of rich sauces that pulled the whole dish together beautifully. The enchilada plate was equally satisfying—generously portioned with a deep, savory sauce and served alongside vibrant Mexican rice, pico de gallo, and a sweet and tangy corn salad that added the perfect freshness. And the margaritas? Incredible. We tried a couple—one classic and one berry-based—and both were beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The rims were perfectly salted (or spiced), and the drinks had just the right balance of tartness and sweetness without being too sugary. Mountain Madre is the kind of spot you remember long after the meal’s over. Great food, great drinks, and genuinely great people. Highly recommend!

Mountain Madre in Asheville is hands-down one of the best Mexican spots in town. The food, drinks, and overall vibe make it a must-visit whether you’re a local or just passing through. I highly recommend the burrito bowl with steak — it’s perfectly seasoned, generously portioned, and packed with flavor. The steak is tender and cooked to perfection, and every bite hits with a balanced mix of spice, texture, and freshness. The quesadilla is another standout — crispy on the outside, melty on the inside, and filled with quality ingredients that don’t skimp. It’s simple, but executed at a level that makes it way more satisfying than your average quesadilla. Now let’s talk drinks — the margarita flight was excellent. Each flavor was unique and well-crafted, not too sweet, not too sour, just spot-on. It’s a fun way to try different blends without having to commit to just one. The atmosphere is warm and energetic without being too loud, and the service was friendly and attentive. You can tell the staff genuinely care about the guest experience. Mountain Madre delivers on every level — flavor, service, and ambiance. This is definitely a place I’ll be coming back to. Five stars all around.

Google
We had a fantastic meal here! The portions were generous—our two steak burrito bowls and carne asada plate were packed with flavor and left us fully satisfied. The chips and salsa were fresh and a great start to the meal, and the mezcal margaritas were perfectly balanced with a nice smoky kick. Great vibes, great food, and great value. Definitely coming back!

Google
First time at this restaurant in downtown Asheville. The indoor and outdoor dining areas are nice and the service was excellent. The food however was completely unremarkable. Not really bad or good, just kind of there.

Google
This is an awesome lil’ Mexican restaurant and tequila bar! The food is really good, they have an awesome tequila selection, and their margaritas are amazing. Add to that the low key, friendly wait staff and you’ll have a new local fav in no time at all!

Google
Great food and great service. I got the burrito bowl with Tinga Fresca. Many textures in the bowl, if that is something that you like. Layers of rice, black beans, chicken, salsa, jicama slow, crema...it was really good. It was enough food for 2 meals. I asked for some slices of citrus for my water. A cup of lemons and limes arrived at the table. Go, eat, enjoy!

Google
i looked up authentic mexican and this place popped up on google, but it's so not authentic. on a side note, i also don't favor the area now since i almost got hit by a car not looking both ways and the idiot just threw his hands up like he was confused. anyway, had the tinga tacos, but they added all this extra stuff like corn salsa and guacamole. an authentic street taco is supposed to just be meat, onions, cilantro and the salsa. i didn't even get the cilantro sauce that was supposed to be on there. and the tacos were soggy when i got them. also, authentic mexican restaurants offer free chips. they didn't. margarita list was weak, the whole drink list was weak. the waitress barely checked on us. what can you expect in an area such as this?

Yelp
Our experience at Mountain Madre was awesome! The wait wasn't too bad, and we were so excited to see their extensive taco and margarita menus. We both opted for the fish tacos and a sampler of salsa and guac- everything was amazing! Those tacos were dripping, but with such goodness. The rice and beans were amazing too. I ate every bite. Our server did an awesome job- she answered quite a few questions we had, but then mentioned it was her second day, and I was really impressed. She had memorized a lot and seemed excited to take care of us, even with some special requests. On top of everything, we got to eat outside! Definitely would recommend this place to anyone coming to Asheville.

Yelp
Coming from Texas, I hesitated about trying Mexican food, as it never seems to meet the mark. However, I was actually impressed with MMMK. Some things hit the mark and some didn't, but overall the experience left me happy to know there is some good Mexican food outside of TX & NM The space is nice with several different areas to dine, an outside patio, a bar patio, a bar area, and another dining space. The space is casual with lots of wood and exposed bricks dressed with local art that was cool to check out. The bar area was the most attractive space for showcasing the mixologist who was whipping up a variety of different margaritas. We opted to sit outside on the dog-friendly patio. The service we received from the bar and our waitress was friendly, helpful, and well worth a good tip! They even exchanged a drink my friend didn't care for without any fuss. As for the food and margaritas, I opted for the flights because I wanted to try a few of them! While they were all good, if I had to pick the top two they would be the Spice of Life (Blanco, strawberry serrano chili syrup, fresh lime, and lava salt) and the Heat Wave (Blanco, Ancho Reyes, habanero pineapple syrup, fresh lime), but honestly they are all worth a go. I also loved my friend's The Beekeeper (Mezcal, Ancho Reyes, lemon, honey, lavender bitters), but I love Mezcal. We started with the Salsa & Dip Sampler choosing corn salsa, guacamole, queso, and Verde salsa. The chips were excellent - they were crisp, had the perfect thickness, and held up well with all the dips. I wouldn't say these were the best salsas and such I ever had, but they were decent. I wouldn't get the queso again, but the rest were fine. For dinner, I had the Carnitas (Slow roasted pork shoulder shredded then pan-seared. Served with pico de gallo, corn salsa, rice, beans, & two flour tortillas drizzled with cilantro-lime crema). They were spot on - melt-in-your-mouth meat with a nice crisp. Topped them with the pico, corn salsa, and oh-so-good crema - they were awesome! Not a drop left on my plate after that! So yeah - I'm excited there is decent Mexican food in Asheville!

Yelp
Unique. Good. Atmosphere is very open, natural, patio and inside. Service was okay but slightly aloof. If you love tequila, they will have your favorite and few to try that you have never heard of. They have a flight of margaritas which is their claim to fame. We tried the Spice of Life and Blackberry smoke ... definitely preferred the blackberry. The food was good. We tried the Carne Asada and Pork Belly tacos. The steak was good but the veggies were mainly brussel sprouts. The pork belly tacos were not pork belly .. they were pork shoulder or roast. Yet they were tasty.

Eileen B.

Yelp
Out of all the places we ate on our trip, this was not my favorite. The prickly pear margarita was excellent but the salsa was watery the queso no flavor. The fish tacos were good but had one tiny piece of fish per taco. I will the pickle guacamole was creative and good. The staff was very welcoming and nice

Jessica G.

Yelp
Dog friendly backyard area. You need to enter through the back to be seated though. I got the margarita flight, interesting flavors. Nice spot.

Kyna M.

Yelp
This is by far my favorite Mexican sit down in Asheville. I'm not a gourmet Mexican gal so I never like the menu I see an Limones, but I've never tried it either. This is my kind of Mexican. Flavors all on point. The table favorite are the nachos. And everyone agreed my chicken tings enchiladas are the best! Street corn is crazy good! Staff attentive and friendly. Diverse dining room options.

David S.

Yelp
Mediocre American Mexican food. Not terrible, not great. Nothing stand out and certain items were pre-made (as stated by wait staff) that would typically be much better made to order. Guac was quite over blended (my preference only--guac is best mixed by hand to retain some chunkiness and prevent baby food level consistency) "We can't do that" was a response to an enchilada meat substitution. That's ok, and if you're looking for run of the mill Am-Mex with a nice back outdoor patio and interesting interior, this place is ok too. It wasn't a 4 out of 5 stars in my once-there experience.

Ashley S.

Yelp
This has to be one of the best restaurants I've ever visited. From start to finish, it's a class act. We called ahead to check on the wait time, and the hostess was very friendly and helpful. Our server had great recommendations and knowledge of the menu. The servers and bartenders know all about the various tequilas and spirits (we heard their explanations to everyone nearby during their drink orders). Tonight we tried the small order of charred green beans. I had vegan tacos, and my husband ordered the carnitas entree. We finished with churros. This is one of the most authentic and most excellent Mexican restaurants. You will not regret coming here!

Crissy T.

Yelp
Place left me feeling completely scammed and ripped off. They have $100 margarita snuck in with all of the other margaritas it doesn't stand out at all, at a glance you would think it was $10 based on all of the other ones. The waitress makes no comment whatsoever would you order it. They should be highlighting this in a special box and alerting you that you might be ordering something crazy. I would say be very careful that you're not accidentally ordering a $500 burrito out of the burrito section thinking it is 15. People should not have to scour the menu for irregularities in order not to be scammed. If I could give this place less than one star I would I've tried contacting them and I have not heard back

Shelby D.

Yelp
The food is good, but not $9 a taco good. Can go to other places to get bigger tacos that taste the same

Allison M.

Yelp
What an absolute stellar margarita spot. This place is definitely not cheap. But it is definitely classy and quality. They're back patio is absolutely delightful in the summer and warm times. We came here for lunch on Friday and we're sad immediately. The host server were incredibly attentive. We opted for the extra fancy margarita with a floater. It was definitely strong and tasted amazing. I didn't have to remove a star because I asked for it's only have a tiny bit of agave and it was really sweet. Then I asked for to have none and it was still sweet which is impossible. I also tried the kale salad, which was great. I asked what veggie protein was best and she suggested chicken. For the smallest amount of veg chicken, I paid like six or seven dollars extra . And it tasted awful. Like something in my camp cafeteria would serve. The kale salad itself was nice and light but for how much it was, I felt like a few pieces of kale and four strawberries was is extreme. I mean we are talking about a place that sells like $16 guacamole though. Also, on that note guacamole was $16 but it taste amazing. My friend got a burrito bowl and it looks good, but it was rice and beans mostly. If I were to come back, I would probably get one margarita, and then some light beers or something. Also, maybe a taco or something more specialized because they really a charge for the most basic stuff. It sounds like I'm complaining a lot and I still get this place for stars because it still was an incredible experience. But for a total of $80 I kind of wanted something a little more treat yourself.

Yelp
Wonderful dinner with friends. Nice decor and ambiance set the tone. Service was excellent and the food delicious. Portions large enough to take leftovers home for lunch.

Diane H.

Yelp
Friday night dinner, table of 4 in the bar area. Service was prompt. We started with chips accompanied by guacamole and queso dip. The chips are made on site and were crispy and delish. The guacamole and queso were both enjoyed by all of us. Chicken Burrito bowl was HUGE and absolutely could be shared. We had enough left over for lunch today. Pork Tacos were also good, but the sauce was very spicy and both diners were happy they had requested it on the side! Great ambiance, easy to talk. Tables were nicely spaced. Well worth stopping in!

Yelp
This place is SOOOO good!!! We went twice in like 3 days. The drinks are so good. I ordered a blackberry smoke margarita and it was fruity and Smokey and everything you want in a margarita, so I ordered another. The green beans may sound a bit strange as an app, but order them! They are so good I want to drive back to Asheville just to get them again. I had the nachos, which I forgot to take a pic of, but I added carnitas and I cannot tell you when I have had better nachos. I'm pretty sure the chips are made in house. Everything was so fresh! The Hubs ordered enchiladas, which he devoured. We loved everything we got so much that we ordered it all again a couple of days later and it was just as good. We will absolutely be back!

Shan W.

Yelp
Birria tacos!! A search on yelp brought up Mountain Madre so we headed there for lunch with 3 little boys in tow. A bit on the expensive side, like Allison said, but it's probably the fanciest mexican spot in town. We were there right when it opened so it was empty. Delicious food and even my picky eaters ate all of their food. Bonus: right across from the Food co-op!

M R.

Yelp
It was good! The tacos were great, the salsa was great, the service was great. We really enjoyed it and the person O was with liked her churros. Yummy

Kandus J.

Yelp
This place is pretty cute but way over priced!! The portions are small considering what you're paying. It also seems to be missing some flavor on a lot of things. I went with a party of 3 and we all agreed the flavor just wasn't there., especially considering the prices! The service was okay. I probably wouldn't go back here again unless I really had to.

Lisa O.

Yelp
Good food. Had a few cocktails and chips with a trio of dips while we waited for tacos. Decent portion for the price. I'd go with flour tortillas on my tacos next time Beans and rice were well seasoned.

Devang P.

Yelp
I went Mountain Madre Mexican Kitchen and had a mixed experience. Located in downtown Asheville off a popular street, it's fairly easy to find. There is plenty of seating throughout the place and small seating by the bar. The service was excellent, but there was a notable wait for the food. I ordered the pastor pork chimichanga, and while the flavor of the pork was commendable with a satisfying meat-to-filling ratio, I wasn't a fan of the cabbage topping. The sauces at the bottom lacked the robust flavor I expected, though they weren't bad. In terms of authenticity, the experience didn't quite capture the essence of Mexican cuisine for me. However, the overall food quality was decent. It's a good spot if you're looking for a meal without strict authenticity expectations.

Danielle S.

Yelp
Really cute spot with a relaxed atmosphere. Our group's server was great ~ very attentive and friendly. The drinks were good and so was the food for the most part. We got chips, salsa and guac as an appetizer and that was great. The pozole was really good as well. Others at the table ordered fish tacos, brisket tacos, and empanadas and all seemed to really enjoy it! My spouse and I split the chimichanga with pastor pork. It was a good size to split, but the flavor was just ok. Unfortunately, we both got very ill later that night. Hence the 2 stars. Given this, I'll likely never be back to this spot. I still think it's worth checking out if you're in the area, just maybe go for the tacos!

Heather K.

Yelp
Visiting Asheville for a mini vacay. Had the Fish entree and it was delicious. Fish was very well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Had the Anejo Old Fashioned and was perfectly balanced. Since I was alone I sat at the bar and the service was still great. The bartender was very attentive. Would certainly come back.

Donna M.

Yelp
Chicken and beef enchilada with jasmine rice over a bed of corn salsa and a side of whole black beans! My drink was the Green Goddess mmmmmm mmm good! The food was tasty and full of flavor. Everything made fresh! I loved the ways in which they blended flavors that I've never thought to combine, like the corn salsa with the rice, which was fluffy and rich in flavor. My drink was Devine!!!! OMG.... I've never had this drink before but I felt I had a healthy juice with tequila added...removed all the guilt! The ambience was warm, inviting, and comfortable. And, Gus, our server was helpful, attentive, with an awesome smile! I felt so welcomed in this new space and I'm grateful that the food gods led me to this place!!!

Dwaine C.

Yelp
We needed some Mexican food for a change and this place looks good. We were seated fairly quickly. The staff was very friendly and busy. I ordered the flight of tequilas and they were amazing. The presentation with the fruit and pepper's really looks nice. We ordered the pick 3 sauces also. The guacamole was cold and delicious but no bacon. The queso was creamy and good. But the salsa was some of the best I've had. We ordered the chimichanga over slaw with crème and barbacoa . It was enough to share. There was little meat and plenty rice. The outer shell was thick and doughy. I wish it had been crispier . I wouldn't have it again. But it wasn't bad.

Janie F.

Yelp
Flights of guacamole, flights of margaritas & tequilas. Handmade empanadas and delicious barbacoa beef and pork belly in scrumptious tacos. Thank you Chrys for your patient guidance through the creative menu -- all your recommendations, based on our preferences, were SPOT ON! We loved every sip & morsel while we dined in the cheery atmosphere on the sunny, breezy patio. A must for anyone visiting Asheville - and Chrys will take good care of you! Gracias!

Wendy S.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place since the food was excellent. Unfortunately the service was bad. Waiting for our table, I grabbed an excellent Heat Wave margarita. It was very spicy and I loved the haberno syrup. The bartender was very busy but also very rude. Yelling at other staff members in front of patrons and when I asked her a question about the ingredients she answered in a questionable downright abrupt nasty way. We were then were seated outside in a beautiful patio area but had to wait maybe 5 minutes for our waiter to acknowledge us which I was fine with because he seemed busy. We ordered the loaded nachos as an appetizer and street tacos for entrees. We had no plates, napkins or silverware so we sat another 5 minutes waiting for that. The food came out all at that same time. Believe me the nachos were excellent and the one bite I had of the carnita tacos were good. The pork was slightly dry but still good. Then it got a little strange. In the middle of dinner, our waiter asked us if we were splitting the bill and then put the check on the table. We had had our food for approximately 5 minutes. Never asked if we wanted more drinks or needed anything else. He then came back and stood behind us for 1-2 minutes waiting for us to pay the bill. WE WERE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING DONE WITH THE APPETIZER. Never have I ever had a waiter do this before. He then came back THREE more times and stood there. I ignored him the first 3 times but finally told him that we were not leaving yet. The table next to us told us he did the same to them. It was one of the most bizarre experiences I've ever had. I don't know if he was just green and did not know the proper way to serve or really just wanted us to leave so badly and get to the next table. Unfortunately I will not come back here due to the staffing here. The food and drinks were very good though.

Ajay M.

Yelp
Don't have anything negative to say about this place. The food was good, drinks were fantastic, service was friendly, and I didn't leave smelling like I rolled around in a fajita. The sampler of chips, queso, guac, and salsa is plenty to share as a couple. The margaritas are great. Highly recommend premium margarita (it's worth the price). The prices are a bit steep but overall this place is great. If your jonesing for comida mexicana, check this place out.

Lauren S.

Yelp
It was decent food but not impressed for Asheville standards. It was barely busy on a weekday night and service was slow. Food was equivalent to chipotle.

James B.

Yelp
Did i say there's more than fantastic margaritas? Well they are fantastic and there is much more A beautiful porch: roomy, private away from the street a wonderful place for an late and long lunch Outstanding food and way beyond tacos and enchiladas as in very fresh seafood - i often go for the fish as a taco as a platter - anyway they choose to serve it is fine with me and has never disappointed. A favorite right downtown. So if you're in the mood for a really enjoyable time, look no further than Mountain Madre on Walnut Street

Mark W.

Yelp
Do not miss this place!!! Margaritas, Salsa and barbacoa are sooooooo good!!! Great service, great ambiance and the prefect location!!!! Will come back for sure!!!

Kat H.

Yelp
Server was friendly and attentive. She did so well we had no idea it was her first day until we was paying the check. Taco salad was fresh and enchilada tasty. Very accommodating to my strawberry allergy and customized our margarita flight with no issue. Will go back.

Victoria K.

Yelp
Great service. Some of my faves are the pork belly tacos, made in house chips and salsa, tequila flights,

Rafael S.

Yelp
Awesome server (Sarah D). We sat outside and watch people go by... Surprisingly really delicious (and big) Quesadillas (with Carnitas), Pork Belly Tacos and Empanadas at reasonable prices. They prepared a great margarita. Ask for the "Sarah Premium Margarita" (half top shelf Tequila and Half Mezcal with Grand Marnier & extra Agave). ¡Salud!

Nata D.

Yelp
Last night, Mexican cuisine was the plan. Wanting to stay in downtown, we gravitated towards Mountain Madre. We arrived shortly after 7pm & were greeted & seated without a problem. The atmosphere seemed great, comfortable but not too close, if that makes sense. Our server, Noah, was great & very attentive. I have some dietary restrictions & he was more than willing to work with me; I really really appreciate that. For drinks, we tried a house margarita, which was very lime-y but tasted great! Our food choices were, Street Corn, the Chipotle Bowl w/ chicken, & some Quesadillas w/ avocado as protein. (I really appreciated their vegetarian & vegan options, the idea of having avocado as a protein was awesome, & tasted great!!) They have 3 house hot sauces, which were all different but tasted great. (I think the more yellow toned one was my personal fav) The only thing we noticed was that chips + salsa aren't part of the experience but rather something that needed to be ordered. At the end of the day, it was nice to see their whole team working together so well. The food tasted so so yummy, & Im still thinking about how great everything else on the menu must be.

Evan B.

Yelp
Nice spot in downtown Asheville. Came in for lunch and got the chip sampler and a couple HUGE burritos. Drinks were good as well.

Kimberly L.

Yelp
Fantastic last minute dinner choice! If Haley is your server, you'll be well looked after. Highly recommend the dill pickle guacamole, margarita flight, (seriously impressive - met my high standards ) and the brisket tacos! Oh! And the avocado verde salsa! Everything was delicious!

Sabrina H.

Yelp
This place is solid. The location is perfect for a drop in lunch while running around downtown. They have a big drink menu and a super cute bar and patio. I got the nachos and a skinny margarita...or 2. The bartender was very attentive. I think this place would be great for a group outing as well. I'll be coming back for sure.

Mark M.

Yelp
We found this place on Yelp while traveling and with good reviews, we decided to try it. Very artistic food presentation, tasted great and the service also was great. Only demerit was because they didn't provide free chips and salsa. That's just in-American for a Mexican restaurant! (Haha!)

Annie M.

Yelp
We went to this yesterday and I loved the inside of the restaurant. Very cute and clean. We ordered street tacos because we like them and we like to get them as much as we can. So we saw it on the menu and I said Yep let's get this therefore we chose the pork usually they are juicy. When they served us it looked nice and pretty. I'm sorry I didn't take a picture of it but the pork was so dried out and hard. I brought it to the attention of the waitress. She said sometimes it gets overcooked. I was hoping she would maybe serve some more, but NIT overcooked, but didn't happen . Another thing They had one waitress for the restaurant. After a long time waiting the bartender helped us helped out and actually took our order. She was very very nice and apologize for the long wait. The beans and rice that came with it were lukewarm like they've been sitting on the counter for a while I decided not to return them and we ate only a few bites and left them both my husband and I did the same. I really couldn't taste the rice at all had no flavor.

Cherie T.

Yelp
Hit this charming little taqueria up for lunch after spotting it the night before while brewery hopping. We were sat quickly on a small, but picturesque patio under a sun shade. It was very windy when we were there and the regular table umbrellas could not be opened. Many of our fellow patrons were in full sun and later asked to move because it was definitely hot without shade. We started by getting their margarita flight/sampler, small versions of the four different margaritas that they offer. Our favorites were the spicy watermelon & their classic. The habanero was way too hot for my boo. The presentation was lovely. (See photo) We ordered the guacamole; it was serviceable, however for my taste I like a little more flavor. I think that it could've used more lime and some spice... But guacamole is a very personal thing. We split the brisket tacos ...they were heavenly. They came with a side of jasmine rice and black beans which were a nice change from refried. The service was good and we did not feel rushed or hurried in anyway. Not only will we be back, but we recommended the brisket tacos to everyone we saw the very next day because they were that good. Haha. Note: for some reason I always take pictures of my cocktails and never of my food.

Lisa L.

Yelp
The enchiladas and pickle guacamole are the bomb! Service is good and the patio is very nice. Jalapeño hush puppies are very tasty too! My husband ordered the chimichangas and they did not disappoint.

Thao L.

Yelp
After hitting up a couple breweries, group of friends and I decided to check out this spot. Beware of the long waits to be seated but it is well worth it! The food was delicious and the drinks are even better!! We couldn't decide on just one drink which is why we got the flight. The Heat Wave with habanero pineapple definitely had a kick to it but it was still great. My favorite was the blackberry smoke- the Smokey tequila as unreal! Definitely try this spot and will be back when I come back to town!

Jessica B.

Yelp
Customer service is good but the food was really bad. I'm not very picky but oh my. Must have been a bad night. The steak street tacos smelt rotten and came with a free hair. The drinks were bad and quite expensive. I felt really bummed about choosing this place to eat.

April B.

Yelp
We arrived here starving and ready for a cocktail. This place did not disappoint. This was our first stop for food once we arrived for a girls getaway in Asheville. Cocktails were on point as was our chips and guacamole. Our service was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. We arrived after lunch time so it was pretty quiet. Things were picking up again before we left. Indoor and outdoor seating was available. With so many amazing places to eat it was hard to get back to try even more but we definitely recommend it if you're in town!

Kristen K.

Yelp
I had a delicious takeout dinner while in Asheville. Food was well packaged, everything was tasty, and it came with a surprise paper bag filled with what appeared to be house made tortilla chips. So fresh they were still war when I got back to my room. Do yourself a favor and order the vegetable and chicken tortilla soup if it's on the menu when you go. It was outstanding!

Rob D.

Yelp
Always looking for some good food in Asheville and have found it here at Mountain Madre. I haven't been to Asheville in a while and this is a great addition to thier food scene. it was a great day in Asheville so we dined on the patio outside. The interior of the restaurant was decorated really well. I wanted to come back in and look at the art work that was hanging. Service was very good. Our waitress checked in a few things for us and was very attentive. Unfortunately the kitchen was not able to accommodate a few of our requests but it was ok. From a food standpoint everything was very good. We started with the empanada. A little bit different than traditional filling but it was really good. Would definitely get them again. For my main entree I had the carnitas bowl. It was really flavorful and the portions were more than adequate. My wife had the fish special and again really liked the dish. overall we really enjoyed our meal here. I would repeat.

Yelp
This was an appetizer and tequila trip, which might be the best kind of trip. We ordered the mezcal and the anjeo flights-bartenders choice-a vegan quesadilla (vegan chorizo) and a choose your own 3 dip with vegan queso and salsa and guac. The quesadilla was fantastic. This is a must order. The corn purée it came with was weird but you didn't have to eat it. The dips were delicious. The vegan queso had an odd aftertaste but if you dipped it with the guac or queso or both, it was perfect. The flights were a tad disappointing. The mezcal was better than the anejo, but the mezcal we buy for the house is better then what the bartender chose for us. Still, they were good; we've just had better tequilas. This may have been more of a 3.5 star happy hour but I enjoyed it enough to round up.

Yelp
We were stopping in Asheville on a road trip and stumbled along this Mexican restaurant. We ordered the pork belly and carne asada tacos. They were delicious. We sat in their back patio which was really nice. Service was also very good. The churros were absolutely divine. Recommend this place if in the mood for Mexican in Asheville.

Yelp
Maybe it was an off night but very disappointing meal. The food was mediocre and they put mayonnaise on everything, even my beans, rendering much of it inedible. My margarita did not arrive until after I had finished my meal. I left hungry and ended up grabbing a slice of pizza on the way back to my car which was far more satisfying and didn't set me back $40.

Yelp
We had a great time at Mountain Madre. Delicious Palomas and the guac sampler was really good. Our food was great, and our server was on top of it with great suggestions for our group. Highly recommended!

Yelp
We were a party of four on a Sunday for lunch. Everything was really great at this restaurant. The attention to detail in their regional Mexican favorites was also evident in their collection of tequilas and mezcals. There were a lot of flavors on our plates. I had the fish of the day and it was outstanding. The rest of our table did the pork belly tacos. Everything they brought us was delicious. The service was outstanding too. We did flights of mescals too. They did that right too and the mescals were all smooth, distinct and delicious. We were bery glad we stopped here as it added a lot to our visit to Asheville. Thanks MM!
