The Best Restaurants in and Around Yellowstone National Park | Eater

"The straightforward Starbucks coffee selection at this bucolic daytime cafe belies the fact that Mountain Mama’s has some of the most interesting breakfast items in the region. Wild game breakfast burritos are the specialty, featuring ground elk or bison rolled inside tarp-sized tortillas, but you can also opt for pheasant pot pies, elk bratwursts, and bison pasties. The sweets are equally impressive: blackberry-rosemary turnovers, huckleberry scones, and lemon-blueberry cookies. Whether you’re fueling up for a day on the trails or winding down with an afternoon treat, this place fires on all cylinders." - Matt Kirouac

A decent spot for a quick bite with mixed feelings. We tried a cookie, a chocolate hazelnut croissant, a bison burrito, and two sandwiches. The cookie was good. The croissant, on the other hand, tasted stale and didn’t have much, if any, hazelnut flavor. The bison burrito was okay. The filling was mushy, and the bison was bland, almost like it had been cured or canned. The sandwiches appeared reasonably priced with exception of the turkey and cheese. At $15, it had about six slices of turkey, two slices of cheese, and bread. It didn't look like the photo. Prep time for our food felt longer than necessary.

The coffee served here is Starbucks. It’s a cute store, but they don’t have a bathroom. When I asked, they told me to find one at a nearby gas station or Chamber of Commerce. There’s a decent food selection and take away meals but just ok in taste. My coffee was filled with grounds, which was disappointing.

The veggie sandwich here is just 🔥🔥🔥. The drinks were good too but the huckleberry smoothie was lil too sweet. They make everything from scratch so you gotta wait for a while

Stopped in for 4 ham & cheese sandwiches to-go to take into Yellowstone. Price about $54 bucks. Staff, super friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately it took nearly 25 minutes to get the order. When we got around to eating them at lunch, the sandwiches had a very small layer of ham, and were pretty dry.

Google
We saw that they offered Starbucks coffee here, so my wife was happy. I spotted the box lunch deal and found out that they open early, so it's a perfect to-go lunch for hikes and day adventures. One morning, we grabbed a box lunch with the Yellowstone Club sandwich. Sadly, they forgot my water, but it was too late to turn back. The Yellowstone Club sandwich was simple and homemade-style. It hit the spot. I was hoping the bacon would be crispy, but sadly, they were limpy. Beware that it takes time to get your order, so don't come here if you're in a rush. I would definitely grab another box lunch if we are spending the day out with no access to restaurants.

Mountain Mama’s Coffeehouse and Bakery in West Yellowstone is my go-to spot every time I visit. They serve Starbucks coffee, and the staff is always friendly. It’s usually busy, but the service is good, and the place feels cozy. A great stop for coffee and a quick break before heading into the park!

We grabbed our breakfast from this place and had it in the park at the riverside pull-out. The views made it extra special. I got a custom veggie sandwich with eggs and croissant. We also had a vegetarian sandwich with micro greens and Hummus. Both the sandwiches were good. Service was good.

We had two coffees & two muffins and it cost almost $30. The pastries looked good, but at $10 each, we passed. And of course, they wanted a tip on top of the high prices. The lady had two babies behind the counter, crawling around on the floor. Maybe that’s why it’s called mama’s? She asked if we wanted the muffins warmed up. We said yes and they came out cold, like right out of the fridge. Maybe you have to tip to get them to use the microwave. I’ll find somewhere else to go next time. Two stars because the coffee wasn’t bad. Update: I’m not the only person who has complained about babies behind the counter. Come on now. You’re serving food in a business. The owner should take accountability for disappointing the customers and not providing an environment worthy of the high prices rather than attacking the people who have spent money there. Your previous responses to bad reviews are all angry and responses to good reviews are all appreciative. You should appreciate the bad ones too; we’re helping you make your business better, whether you realize it or not. We’re telling you where you’re falling short of our expectations. But I’ll just take your angry response and go on my way to another business. I wish you the best.

Yelp
Great baked goods and food. Service under pressure not so good. My coffee drink order was entered in wrong due to the cashier not being fully focused. It took forever to get my coffee order, then I realized it was wrong. They did remake it but did not offer to refund me the difference of being charged for the larger drink. I paid for a smaller size drink with extra shots of espresso so I can have less milk, I received a larger size instead. Again, when I told them it was wrong it felt very rushed and like I was the problem. No genuine customer service attitude to make it right all around. I honestly think the busyness is the culprit of real quality care.

Yelp
Hi fake Starbucks owner or manager Shortly after consuming one of the items I purchased, I felt an urgent need to use the restroom. This raises concerns that some of the products being sold might be spoiled or not stored properly. I do not hold any of the staff personally responsible. In any business, if something goes wrong, it is ultimately the responsibility of the owner and the management team. I kindly ask that you review the quality of the products being sold. There is also a possibility that your suppliers may have delivered substandard or unsuitable goods

Yelp
We hit a few pastry shops in town during our week of vacation here. Unfortunately we hit this one at the end of our stay. They serve fresh daily pastries that are made in house. They have sweet types, as well as more hearty items like a ham&cheese croissant. I had one of these and it was excellent, especially having it warmed up a bit. Coffee is by Starbucks and was pretty much what you would expect. This is also a gift shop with a sale rack in the back of the house. Seating is by way of 4 small tables with 3-4 stools each. The counter folks were friendly and kept the place nice and clean.

Kristin K.

Yelp
Very over priced. Cute small interior, and very friendly staff. Burritos are pretty large but $15 seems like a lot. Coffee was good, they were super nice when my daughter asked for boba in her drink and even ran to the back to check if they had the doughnut my son was hoping for. Would be 5 stars if prices weren't so crazy high.

Yelp
First off, very charming little coffee shop. Fresh parties in the case, Starbucks coffee offerings, and craft type merchandise to choose from. We ordered a couple of breakfast burrito's adequate in size to comfortably feed two people each - one veggie and one bacon and egg. Complimented the entrees with mango strawberry smoothies and coffee. The burritos were served with a delicious roasted red pepper sauce on the side that really added some zest to each bite. The service was executed with a smile and care as our order was initially botched by not accurately matching; the manager on duty quickly and happily made everything right and all was good; sometimes it's not if and when or even why mistakes are made but how one recovers that matters. In this case, we were pleased with the end results. Definitely will make another visit even though I found the price of the meal to be a bit on the high side.

Yelp
Completely overpriced. At a tourist site like this, it's better off to just go to McDonald's.

Yelp
Super cute shop in west Yellowstone! It has limited seating but service was fast, food quality was good and there's a ton of good section so you can make a picnic basket or snacks for later in the park.
google avatar

Yelp
It's a good everyday coffee -- not fancy, but dependable. If you're looking for a simple, classic cup of coffee that's not too bold or too weak, this is a solid choice. Super nice place.

Yelp
Sooo went 3 times when we were staying in Yellowstone. We LOOOOOVED the Elk Lasagna. Omg soooo good and flavorful. If fact we bought three !! The first one we bought from there was the first time we went there for some coffees and food. We took it home (it's a family tray and frozen $60 ) and had it for dinner. We devoured it !! So we went back to get 2 more for the road. We ate them within a month. Gah ! We already miss it. So why 4 stars? Huh, the service is low key horrible. Gasp! They are really nice but they got our order wrong twice, and as we were waiting the cashier goes up to another couple and they've been there before us, and she goes Here you go. I forgot your drink. And THAT'S it ! No, hey I'm so sorry ! Nothing else. Also for the other two lasagna they told us they would call us when the lasagna was done being made because it was ordered ahead of time. They never called. We just showed up after 4 days hoping they had it.

Yelp
This place was extremely busy in the morning! Plan for a line and to take your food elsewhere, as the seating is usually filled up. The staff was very kind and helpful when we were picking out what to get. We tried to order their huckleberry hot pot, but they were out! Since we had already paid, they actually gave us two sweet pastries without an upcharge, which we were so thankful for. We also ordered two drinks and two breakfast burritos. Everything was delicious! The burritos were huge and filled with a ton of meat, eggs, and cheese. I loved everything about this place besides the cost. It was soooo expensive. We probably spent about 60$ overall. One large cost was the drinks. They were good, but I wouldn't get coffee here again. Though the cost was a huge bummer, we'd come back here since it was so delicious and everyone was friendly. We want to support local places like this, but it definitely would be a "once per trip" sort of thing.

Yelp
It appears to serve Starbucks. We only tried some Cappucino and hot chocolate and two croissants to go, but the lunch menu looked great, too. The staff can represent Montana with friendly smiles which make your day before going to explore the national park early.

Yelp
Burrito was $15 and was gas station size and quality. Wasn't made to order, tortilla was rock hard from it sitting on a hot pad. Owner was rude

Yelp
Cinnamon roll was huge but very dry and hard on the outside, middle was soft but lacked cinnamon flavor in my opinion. I mostly tasted dough and icing. The icing was quite sweet and not soft. The roll was also $10.50!! That price is quite steep. The pasties we had (elk and mountain man) came out very very dry, was so disappointing. The flavors were okay but it was so hard to eat even with the gravy. The mountain man had so much potatoes in it but glad that it did come with a good amount of meat. The elk was interesting that there weren't any chunks of meat but the meat seemed to be broken up mixed into the veggies. It was hard for me to tell exactly what elk would taste like on its own. The pastry itself was okay, nothing too special. It did a good job holding in all the ingredients and wasn't extremely thick except at the seams.

Yelp
I absolutely adore this place! You get a Starbucks fix in the middle of charming west Yellowstone! The owner Kim, puts her heart into all the recipes. Each sandwich is grafted with care. She is always coming up with something new to contribute to the town. There is a reason people love it here so much. Ashley is the best! She will take your order and personally make it for you. The food is always fresh! Hannah is so sweet and is great with making the lattes! I highly recommend the elk burrito, the huckleberry turnover, the grizzly bear and blt sandwiches and you must try the new bear claw!!!! Mountain Mamas is the perfect place to stop in for breakfast or lunch. The food and service is consistently good! Kim brings in the cutest mugs and household items. The farm fresh pickles are a must!!! Come in to eat shop and stay for a while.

Yelp
yummy turnovers. diy breakfast sandwiches are good. if i had known i would have ordered ahead on their website to avoid the wait which can be long.

Yelp
Great burgers and excellent onion rings. Service was excellent as well. I will go back before I leave West Yellowstone.

Yelp
Lots of food options for a small coffee shop. We had the bison breakfast burritos. They offer starbucks coffee selections. All of the bakery items looked delicious and they have grab and go selections.
google avatar

Raadhika V.

Yelp
Good cinnamon rolls with a creamy vanilla bean frosting, they are on the expensive side but could easily serve 2-4 people. Get them while they're warm! We also liked the egg, feta and spinach puff. They charge a credit card fee so take cash.

Chris G.

Yelp
I don't normally do reviews but this one was worth it. We are here on vacation and needed breakfast and lunch for the day for 5 people. Spent an hour the night before setting up a pick up order for 7am the next day. The bill was almost $200. Get there at 7. They don't have the order. Show them the receipt. Then the credit charge receipt. Then the order and they say they don't have it. Tell us it will be 15 min. Then charge us $25 for 3 coffees while we wait. We wait over an hour. For our order. This is a joke right. By the way we are still here after 815 and still waiting. Several other people are having the same issue. Not even a sorry from them. Or a complimentary coffee. Nothing. Over priced and terrible customer service. Go somewhere else. Ok. I finally got to eat the sandwich which was a $15. It had one slice of turkey and one slice of ham. No bacon and no cheese. It literally was a $15 bun with lettuce and 2 slices of meat.
google avatar

Molly P.

Yelp
Holy guacamole, if anyone thinks they should be charging $10 for pastries in Montana they must be completely delusional. Coming from New York City, it's not often that I get sticker shock... but wow! Not worth it.

Mya M.

Yelp
The create your own redbull drinks are to die for! I got a coconut redbull with blue raspberry syrup and cream. Let me tell you that drink hit the spot. The lady behind the counter was very friendly and nice. I loved the atmosphere it was tiny and cute. I didn't get to try any of the breakfast burritos or pastries but they looked very very good. Would highly recommend! Plus of course Starbucks is a plus!!
google avatar

Kent M.

Yelp
Best bakery in town. French style pastries. Loved the ham and cheese croissant and chocolate croissants. Scones are out of this world. Great service to boot!

Anna Johnson ..

Yelp
Coffee and pastries were delicious. We were able to get snacks and drinks for later. The gift shop was cute as well!

Yelp
We were at mountain mamas at 6:45am before heading into Yellowstone. They opened right at 7 and by then there was a short line of people waiting. We ordered a scone, a chocolate hazelnut croissant, a cinnamon roll, matcha latte, and a brown sugar latte. I am bummed I can't give them more than 5 stars. Each item we ordered was perfect, delicious and really hit the spot. They also offer food items which would probably be amazing for lunch in the park. Hope we can visit again soon!

Devlin R.

Yelp
Cute spot with an extensive menu, including wild game (elk, buffalo) breakfast sausages. I went en due to the Starbucks sign out front, and just needed a latte. Coffee was decent, but was discouraged by the super high price. My normal $5.50 Starbucks latte was $8.50 here. Also be aware, no bathroom.
google avatar

Richard R.

Yelp
We tried a cinnamon roll and a sausage burrito, the burrito was loaded with sausage and potatoes, a smackeral of eggs. Something in there was salty, and i am a salt fiend. It was a surprise. All in all i liked it, just a bit salty. The cinnamon roll was very good, i prefer a bit more cinnamon, but the light roll and tasty frosting were very good. There was a lot to try. Prices are steep, but this is a high rent district. I would make it back!! It is a hit!

Yelp
We were on vacation and got up really early in the morning. This was literally the only place open at 6am for coffee. I was a little confused because I thought they were a Starbucks. They are like a store-deli-coffee shop. They sell Starbucks here , they sell souvenirs, and sell food. It's a small store but they have what you need. We ordered two coffees. Mine was unfortunately not that sweet but my husband's coffee was good. They sell a lunch box a soda ,chips, & sandwiches for $15. I noticed everything is a little pricey but it is a tourist town so I understand. The service was good overall an ok experience.
google avatar

Mei T.

Yelp
I fell into the tourist trap. Got myself a giant Rocky Mountain Elk Burrito that was bigger than my forearm. I finished about 2/3 of it and it filled me up until late in the evening. I was beyond stuffed! The breakfast burrito was heavy in cubed potatoes, gravy, cheese, scrambled eggs, and elk sausage. Wonderful flavor and I especially loved the habanero gravy that came with it. I'm afraid to know how many calories was in this massive giant that cost $14.99. It was good, but I had a lot of regrets after eating it. We ended up walking over 15,000 steps so I felt a little less guilty. It was a tourist decision. Lol

Yelp
This place was so good that we didnt try any other breakfast place while we were here. The breakfast burritos are phenomenal. Everything is decently priced and they have a gift shop in the cafe as well. All food here is house made and the granola bars are soooo goood especially to take into the park later for a snack!
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
We were the first ones there at 8am. Not worth the overpriced hype. I don't leave tip if I'm not getting service. The cashier became rude when she saw I didn't leave a tip. For what? All she did was put two pastries in a bag. In addition the pastries tasted stale.
google avatar

V W.

Yelp
We were staying in West Yellowstone and went to Mountain Mama's twice for 'To-Go' lunch sandwiches to take into the park. We ordered off the digital menu and then waited while our sandwich was made. Service isn't super fast, but this gave us time to look at all the gifts, cards, pies, magnets, T-shirts, etc. that they sell. (Which seemed rather on the pricey side). I couldn't help but think it was all a little much and perhaps it would be better if they simplified the souvenirs and installed a few nice tables and chairs so people could drink their coffee and eat their pastries on site. Anyway, we enjoyed our sandwiches and it saved us having to search for lunch in the park. Parking is right outside on the street. You can't miss it, it's right next to a gun range. You know you're in America when...
google avatar

Belinda T.

Yelp
This was the perfect place for our morning coffee and a bite to eat on our way into Yellowstone. The service was quick and efficient, the coffee was good and the breakfast burritos were big and delicious.
google avatar

Debra S.

Yelp
It's a Starbucks with a cute shop. They have tshirts and gifts to look at while you wait on your coffee.
google avatar

Theresa L.

Yelp
They sell Starbucks branded coffee here. Items here are in the higher end. Got the cinnamon roll, pretty good and was quite large but was $10.50. Bear Country Bakery around the corner has the same cinnamon roll for $6.50. Service was on the slower side both times we came for both food and drinks items.
google avatar

Izzy G.

Yelp
I wanted a big breakfast burrito after camping for a couple days in Yellowstone so I drove into town and stopped in here. The pastries looked amazing, but I was in a mission. I got the Great American Bison Breakfast Burrito with roasted pepper gravy on the side. It was delicious! Good size, a little on the spicy side and it was filling. They serve Starbucks coffee here, so you have the option of some of their more popular drink options. The staff was really nice too which is always a plus. My burrito and drink came out to around $25ish. It's a tourist town so nothing is cheap.
google avatar

Satya D.

Yelp
1000% yum. Got the elk and the veggie burrito they are huge and delicious. Love the local vibe of this place too. Best breakfast we had in Yellowstone.
google avatar

B.L. S.

Yelp
We loved visiting Mountain Mama's Cafe and Bakery. It was our first time in West Yellowstone. The owner, Kim, made us feel like we were long time patrons. Delicious chocolate chip cookies and anything with huckleberry is oh so tasty. Kim "let us watch the shop" for 5 minutes while she ran an errand. Who does that except for warm hearted West Yellowstone locals? We highly recommend Mountain Mamas. Drop by, buy lots of local goodies. They will all taste great.
google avatar

Jill B.

Yelp
We stopped in because of the good reviews. They had a "sorry, we are closed" sign in the window so we almost left, but fortunately a man was walking out before we drove away so we knew it was open. We split an elk breakfast burrito and a raspberry huckleberry pastry. Both were delicious. I am glad we split both so we each got some savory and sweet! This is a good place to pick up food to go since there isn't really anywhere to sit inside. There are some spots to sit outside (a table and a few benches) but it was snowing and raining so we were not going to sit outside! There was one tall table with one stool at the back we used and that worked but if you had a bigger party I would probably recommend just having someone pick up an order and bring it back to where ever you are staying. Visited again our last morning here and got the bison burrito and the bear paw. Delicious!
google avatar

P P.

Yelp
Great service and amazing pastries along with breakfast burritos! Would recommend and would come again next time I'm in the area.
google avatar

Dominie G.

Yelp
Service was amazing, coffee was great! Great stop before hitting Yellowstone! They have cute all USA made gifts in their shop, super cute!
google avatar

Thomas B.

Yelp
Good breakfast eats(Huckleberry)! Also they have shirts, and lunches for yellowstone packed and ready. They also have fresh canning of many things

Sue B.

Yelp
This is must stop if you want fabulous treats!!! We had our Starbucks drinks - made perfectly - and also picked up some signature Huckleberry items for gifts! They have other fun (non food) gift items too! Each morning they have fresh made pastries that include cinnamon rolls, pumpkin bars, Ham/cheese croissants and so much more! We will definitely be back before we leave West Yellowstone in a few days!!!!

Heather S.

Yelp
If in West Yellowstone or just Yellowstone, make a stop here!!! Get a heated huckleberry pastry-10/10!!!!! No picture of the hot pot, I forgot to snap one before we dug into it. I also had the bison burrito and my husband the club sandwich. Highly recommend it!!

patricia g.

Yelp
I visited the shop on Saturday evening of 31 August.. it was a pretty busy weekend due to the holiday , but I was still greeted with friendly smile from both girls behind the counter... The girl that helped take my order and made my sandwich! SHE WAS THE BEST!!!!! was friendly enough to help me decide between two sandwiches... the grizzly! which was amazing! Will definitely visit again when coming to Yellowstone! Shop was very good cute n has gifts n stuff for you to purchase , I purchase a support local farmers T-shirt! Super cute!

Sophia W.

Yelp
Great sandwiches, everything looked like it was made in house. Giant cinnamon rolls and other sweets, friendly staff!
google avatar

Zoe A.

Yelp
A cute spot to get breakfast and a coffee! We ordered 2 breakfast burritos and had red pepper gravy which was delicious. Ordered a brown sugar Oatmilk shaken espresso and an iced matcha- both delicious. Quick service and great quality! Pricey!

Yelp
Bison burrito was a surprise hit. Coffee choices are good with attentive service. Baked goods are pretty, pretty good as well. Nice space with some other goods for sale as well.
