Best Indian Restaurants in Austin | Eater Austin

"Mousam Spice House, with locations at North Campus, South Austin, and North Austin, is perfect for anyone looking for South Asian foods with a touch of Mexican style. There are burritos stuffed with paneer and chicken, tacos with paneer or chicken, and Chicken 65 that’s deep-fried, spiced and served with a house chutney. There are also classic curries, dal, momos, and samosas alongside Indo-Chinese dishes like gobi chicken Manchurian, deep-fried chicken in soy sauce, and chow mein with paneer, for a wide geographic range of flavors — all found in this food truck at a gas station. While you could snack as you fill your tank, it’s a better idea and experience to order it to go or delivered via Uber Eats, Postmates, and Doordash." - Deven Wilson

Google
We ordered veg steamed momos, paneer kathi roll and some veg chowmein. Everything was piping hot and freshly made. The taste was great - better than expected. Especially momos. Food portion size is as good. Service was quick and staff were friendly and courteous. Would definitely visit again.

Google
We tried their samosa last time. Hit mousam again for their chicken meal combo. Which dis not satisfy us compared to the price! $41 for momo, fried rice, and chowmein with no proper place to sit and the incredibly long wait time was insane! We liked their sushi chicken momo but the chowmein had too much salt and MSG! The fried rice was ok!

Google
Absolutely delicious! This Nepali food truck serves fresh, flavorful dishes that taste just like home. The momo and dal bhat are a must-try. Friendly service and great vibes—highly recommend! 🇳🇵🍛🚚

Google
As a veggie eater I can't consider cabbage a veggie as that's a free food in many places. Not worth $14 for noodles... I can get many beautiful & veggie rich dishes at other spots. This was my first time here.

Google
Pure waste of money don’t go based on Ratings. Never had worst experience than this not even single item was good despite of high wait time with no crowd. Wasted 45$ 🥲. Chicken Noodles was full of turmeric that leaked along with oil into complete package , who adds turmeric in noodles I still wonder & egg was not fried properly had bad smell. Fried Rice was full of green peas & big chunks of chicken this too was bad. Chilly chicken one should dare to call it chilly chicken big pieces of chicken just tossed in Sauce. Just got looted by trusting their ratings could not eat anything. No one in the truck speaks English , cannot understand Hindi either so no way to make them understand what you need.

Google
They have a lot of items for a small kitchen in a food truck. The chicken biryani is very good and I’ve had multiple orders. The chicken chow mein noodles were obliterated with salt and barely edible. Not good. Extrapolate this out and there’s likely both gems and misses on the menu.

Google
Phenomenal food and open late as a bonus. Had the chicken masala and it was exceptional. My chai tea was the best I’ve ever had and the chef even topped off my cup when it was getting low. Highly recommend!!!

Google
Chicken mo mo steamed dumplings very good - and light and not heavy and guilt free. The spicy sauce that comes with it - wow - very good and flavorful. The ChickenTikka Masala - sauce is creamy, smooth, a bit on the sweet side and you can taste tomatoes. I would have like a bit more garlicky / robust spice but it is still good. Service is very good and Simran - she is very nice and good at suggestive selling and helping you pick the right stuff

Yelp
I ordered goat biryani and chicken tikka, but they mixed up the order and gave me paneer biryani instead of goat. I was disappointed, especially since I was really looking forward to the goat. To their credit, I called and they quickly apologized and sent out a fresh goat biryani without any hassle -- didn't even ask for the incorrect one back. Really appreciated how they handled it. Chicken tikka: 4/5 -- tasty and flavorful, just needed a few more pieces to feel like a full portion. Paneer & goat biryani: 3/5 -- decent, but both could've used more spice and boldness. For a place called Spice House, I expected a bit more heat and complexity. Overall, the service recovery was solid, but the mix-up and average flavor keep this at 3 stars for me.

Yelp
The saag paneer and dal were excellent. If you're craving for good food this is the one.

Yelp
True to its name, the food is spicy and flavorful, so much so that even the least spicy option was a bit hot. The veg combo order is a good value, it includes chow mein, fried rice and momos. The fried veg momos were delicious but everything else could do with a little less black pepper and jalapenos. Mango lassi was more sour, less sweet.

Yelp
Pretty good butter chicken but the butter naan was a total scam for the price, only got one piece and it cost $3.49 before tax

Yelp
This is a nice food truck next to Shell. The people working there are from Nepal and are very nice and will answer any questions that you may have. The fries were alright, would be better if they were crispy and the sauce they gave along with it is different but not bad. Their fried veggie momos are really good- being crispy on the outside and juicy in the inside.

Yelp
Best North Indian/Nepali food in town. Dhaba style saag. Goat curry (off menu) redolent of cardamom with the kind of thin sauce you get at someone's home. Chow mein with a masala so good you can't stop eating, even when it hurts. Excellent, succulent momos, both chicken and veg. Some times they can add too much salt, but that's a rare off night.

Yelp
We picked up a paneer biryani and a chicken fried rice for dinner. The meal was prepared when ordered so it was satisfying to see it was fresh. The paneer biryani had generous amounts of paneer in it. The flavors were excellent and it came with raita and achar. I could easily make 1.5 meals from it. My husband enjoyed his fried rice too. Pricing for both items was reasonable. Will certainly be back to try more items on the menu.

Yelp
Food was great! Lentil soup and curry! Location moved from south Austin to Guadalupe

Yelp
Absolutely in love with their fried momo! & taste of the chowmein was amazing too.! Quick and easy food service from the food truck! Easy and convenient location just near to exit and at gas station parking!

Brahamjyot K.

Yelp
good customer service and veg noodles are my favorite. Totally coming back to try more!!!
google avatar

Nidhi P.

Yelp
We had steamed & fried vegetarian momos that were amazing & the fries that had masala on top! The fried rice could've used a little more salt & it was okay. Service was efficient & ambiance was obv dependent on the weather lol it's by roadside at a gas station so def love the street food/food truck vibes.

Robert W.

Yelp
Really should put allergens / warnings on the menu. Asked if there was any nuts in the mo-mos and after a long deliberation the cashier told me no. Began eating and immediately realized that there was some kind of nut in either the sauce or food. Thankfully my allergy is not incredibly severe but still unfortunate I spent $14 on these things when if they put the ingredients on the menu this could have easily been avoided.

Yelp
This food truck is located in the shell station's lot right by the self serve car wash however you can easily order from the delivery apps as well which was the route I opted for. I got the butter chicken which was creamy and buttery; it's so hard to find a creamy curry these days. I wanted more spicy though - so next time will try some of the other curries. I also ordered samosa which came with a tamarind dipping sauce. I also got naan which was ok but not as good as other places. The Mango lassi had enough tartness from the yogurt so it wasn't too. They also have some indo-Chinese items on there menu- will try these in the future.

Yelp
New food truck in the Shell Fuel parking lot. We had the Tikka Masala with chicken and added paneer. It was really good; flavorful with a good amount of spice. It wasn't very tomato-y though. We also had garlic naan and the vegetable egg rolls. The sauce with the egg rolls was really good. I felt like the naan needed salt in the dough, but it was still good. Everything was hot and fresh. We waited about 15 minutes from placing our order to it being ready. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
This officially took title for best momos in town. Sandesh who is cook and the owner of the place knows his ways around the spices alley to get you the best taste you can get. We trekked several dishes as you can see in the pictures and all of them reminded us of street side food in India that we miss the most. Guess what this place is on the side of the street next to a gas station too. So you get the taste and the vibe as well. You'll find enough parking, you can sit in your car and eat or take one of the two picnic tables right outside. Owner is very very friendly and understand the need.

Todd C.

Yelp
I may or may not have gotten some Delta 9 midnight munchies, but this place hit the spot. My only complaint was the garlic naan portion was tiny, it was 1 small piece of folded naan, not exactly an order.
google avatar

Abubu A.

Yelp
I only can speak for their chow mien. It was the best. I can't say I'd recommend their curries but the chow mien here was incredible. I highly recommend it's like Singapore style noodles that's spicy and Indo Chinese style!
google avatar

Nanisi W.

Yelp
The food is so fresh and delicious!! We got the samosas, chai, lamb masala, chicken masala, butter chicken, and the garlic naan. This whole experience was excellent. 10/10 DO recommend.
google avatar

Betty C.

Yelp
Excellent customer service - incredible curry and lentils. The mango lassi was heavenly.

Sophia M.

Yelp
Loved the food! Flavorful and spicy He made the food right in front of us Close to the airport. Conveniently located

Yelp
I work late and sometimes, I do crave for good Indian food. I went there and had: Chicken fried momos Butter chicken Garlic naan I absolutely loved what I had! The butter chicken is extremely creamy and very North Indian - a little sweet and vert flavourful - which is not easy to find in Austin. Also, the momos were perfect - crispy on the outside and well cooked and juice on the inside! I am definitely going back to try other dishes! Keep up the great work guys :)

Yelp
Tried this truck recently and it is AMAZING. I got the Chow Mien with chicken. And the Samosa Desi styled for appetizer. Quick service and the people were very friendly! We will definitely be back!!

Jonathan A.

Yelp
The flavor of the chow mien noodles was really good, but medium hot is hotter than most places hottest option. If you're sensitive to heat, proceed with caution.

Yelp
Absolutely devine food!!! The best Indo-Chinese food we've EVER had. We ordered their Chow Mein Noodles, Veg Fried Rice, Veg Momos, and Masala Fries. Every single thing was spot on. The chef was super kind, suggested their best dishes and we tried all of them. Truly authentic food, absolutely best in town!!!!! MUST GO TRY!!!

Lisa A.

Yelp
Soooo flavorful! We ordered the veg chow mein & veg momo and I couldn't stop exclaiming after every bite. Spice level high ish but super pleasant if you're into spicy (I am). Also got the chicken tikka with masala sauce and rice on the side. I didn't realize the chicken would be separate but wanted to make sure it came with rice since I was ordering online. Assemble at home was fun and gave the chicken a different texture than most I've had. Going on the regular rotation for sure!

Sai O.

Yelp
AMAZING FOOD! came to visit Austin and went to this place for dinner! Food was absolutely delicious! Ordered momos, chicken koorma, noodles, paneer butter masala and everything was so authentic and amazing! We ordered spicy and man, they really know how to make it spicy and we also ordered masala french fries which was so yummy!
google avatar

Karen A.

Yelp
Amazing food! I live in south Austin and I make the drive! So worth it! I highly recommend their noddles and MoMos The place is also run by very friendly people.
google avatar

Steven D.

Yelp
Weird bad food from the side of a gas station... probably should've been expected but avoid it and just go to a real curry house.
google avatar

E. A.

Yelp
Fire food great energy side of the highway proper. Service was fast for what was made and if you think otherwise you are impatient. Ambiance was that of i35 and the 7/11 great if u are truly texan.

Vittu J.

Yelp
Execpt momo everything is bad and you pay premium restaurant price! Disappointed with curry items..
google avatar

Erika B.

Yelp
Real good food, forgot to take a pic but I ordered the chicken chow mein. It was spicy good! Super convenient and quick.
google avatar

Julie Z.

Yelp
Fast and friendly. Nice portions. Naan isn't naan, it's flat break. Not nearly as good. The tikka Marsala is just a bit too sweet and just lacks something. Chicken is bit dry.
google avatar

Kenny L.

Yelp
They throw their entire bussy into every dish. I didn't even know I liked tofu until I tried this place. Easy stop and quick service.
google avatar

Vibhor K.

Yelp
Local food truck with excellent momos. We tried chole, coli momos and fried veg momos. Fried momos were a little dry to our taste but chili momos were great. Chole were OK as well.
google avatar

Gabe K.

Yelp
This place is legit. Please come if you like spicy food. The chicken burrito looked a bit small, but it was FULL FLAVOR. The quality of the cooking was immediately clear. I also ordered the Dal Gira soup (a spicy channa dal). It was Nepali style and full of cumin seeds and fresh ginger. Not as spicy as the burrito, but still spicy. Will definitely come back to try the Momo. Why did it take me so long to find this place?!

Morie B.

Yelp
The vindaloo is excellent. Get it Desi Hot. Finally found authentic Indian food that does not use bell peppers in all their dishes.
google avatar

R G.

Yelp
One of the worst chicken biryani I've ever had. I would call it fried rice + couple of chicken pieces. the fried rice wasn't tasty either - oily, no flavor and not a single spice that's usually in biryani. I ordered takeout becuase it's right next to a busy (dusty ) highway. probably never coming back
google avatar

Spencer C.

Yelp
So the reason this review is so low, is because we stood in line for 30 minutes, nobody was ahead of us. They didn't acknowledge or even say hi to us while we were in line, and to top it off while we were waiting on line... their water drainage line was directly in front of us and splashing us with water the entire 30 minutes we were in line. I really enjoy taking a footbath while I wait in line, my shoes were soaked. We ended up leaving, shoes soaked and never placed an order. So I'm giving it two stars because we never got to try the food, we just were stared and looked at and never acknowledged.

Prakash K.

Yelp
Amazing and delicious food. 5 stars on food and service. Great smiling faces of the people working in the food truck. And great fast service.

Tracy B.

Yelp
I had the shrimp Marsala and fried rice. It was savory and full of flavor! Delicious.

Honey T.

Yelp
We ordered vegetable momos, which were delicious both steamed and fried. We also tried the chowmein and samosa chaat, which were both quite tasty. This is the greatest spot in Austin, I must say. Must visit place.

Jason D.

Yelp
So this place is fucking bullshit. Tikka masala had approximately 2 small pieces of chicken AND it tasted like candy, AND it was a weird pale brown color. How the hell do you make that dish that sweet? Also how the hell do you fuck up a basic bitch recipe like that so bad? It seemed like they pulled the garlic naan recipe from dominoes. Just fucking gross and low effort food. Fuck this place. Like, FUCK this place.

Madeleine S.

Yelp
i've eaten here twice in one week i'm so obsessed. i don't even write yelp reviews, but i had to find a conduit to express my undying love and devotion for this food truck. two words: eat here.

Scott G.

Yelp
I stopped by late Thursday evening for a coconut lassi and a tikka marsala. Both were well executed. I'll definitely be back for some more!!!!

Magnus M.

Yelp
owners: please update your hours if you intend to have customers. i wasted a 30-minute walk to get there around 8pm on wednesday 11/02/2022 to find a dark and empty truck with no momo. don't waste your time trying to try this place if you can't know whether they are open. update: tried again for lunch after 1pm. won't try again.

Shafer H.

Yelp
My favorite food establishment in Austin. Spicy stuff and super nice staff. Try the jhool momos, tikka, spicy noodles (great vegetarian option is paneer chow mein) and substantial naan.

Silver K.

Yelp
This is a food truck in a parking lot of a gas station. Ordered three items for take away, two veg, one non-veg. Tasted bland and small portion size for the price they are charging. The kicker was naan ($3) that was literally taken out of a retail frozen naan packet from a grocery store and heated up. I understand you cannot cook naan in a food truck. But I expect it to be cooked somewhere else fresh that day for selling in a truck, not a frozen reheat with 600% price. They are charging prices of a proper food restaurant while cutting corners and inflated prices. You think people will not notice?
