My toxic trait is spending all my $$$ on groceries, then looking at my stocked fridge and saying "you know what I need? Takeout." That's where Moustaki comes into play.
I had never tried this place before but was craving something that wasn't pizza, cheesesteaks, pasta, Chinese, Mexican, etc. and landed on here for Saturday night delivery cause who doesn't love a good Mediterranean style protein/veggie/starch to give you the illusion you're eating healthy?
I ordered the chicken souvlaki platter with waffle fries and a Greek salad, BF got the classic lamb gyro, also with waffle fries, and I also impulse added to the cart a Spanokopita, baklava and Loukumades (Greek honey puffs), s'mores style.
Food took a while to arrive, about 50 minutes or so, but I understand because it was freezing out and also the place is not close to us. Love that they have their own online ordering system for delivery and pickup, instead of a third party delivery service, and it's actually pretty sophisticated (you save so much not paying those pesky fees!) I will say I wish they gave you some semblance of tracking or ETA so I didn't spend almost a full hour forlornly looking out the window.
Anyway, on to the food. Everything was really tasty (waffle fries were cold by the time we got them though, but nothing our air fryer couldn't fix.) My boyfriend's lamb gyro was delicious and juicy, and I don't even like lamb. My chicken, while seasoned nicely and served with a hearty Greek salad, absolutely delicious tzatziki and a fresh wedge of lemon, was pretty tough/overcooked and dry, so not entirely what I pictured when I thought of marinated/grilled chicken. Those flavors made up for it, though, as did the slathering of tzatziki to save it a bit. Side of pita was aight, probably would've been better in-person as by the time they got to me they were also pretty chewy to eat.
Regardless, that DISC of a Spanokopita made up for any previous shortcomings. Holy hell. So good. It's nothing like the triangular cut layered variety you're used to. This is gonna sound weird, but it was akin to a savory cinnamon roll: a perfect spiral of delicate, flaky, buttery phyllo dough filled with an incredible spinach pie mixture. I would order just that TBH.
Desserts were good, and the baklava was not sickeningly sweet which was nice. I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to order them again, though.
Will definitely keep this place in mind for future orders (and may stick to lamb instead of chicken)!
