Overall, I felt well looked after at the Mövenpick Hotel in Accra – mainly because of its very central location, which is really convenient for appointments in the city. I would also like to highlight the restaurants: the selection and quality of the food was consistently good. The breakfast is also decent and offers a solid selection.
At the same time, I would like to address a few points in a friendly but clear manner: As a guest, I unfortunately did not always feel that I was truly valued. At the reception in particular, the service seemed less than customer-oriented at times, and I also felt that it lacked professionalism – especially when measured against the standards of a five-star hotel. In addition, I had the impression that communication between the hotel and Booking.com was not working well, which caused unnecessary confusion.
Another important point is cleanliness: there was noticeable room for improvement in the rooms, and overall, the hotel did not give me the impression of consistently maintaining five-star standards. During my stay, there was also construction work going on in the hotel, which caused considerable noise at times – this significantly limited my ability to relax.
Overall, the hotel seems more like a good four-star establishment than a genuine five-star hotel to me. I live in Dubai and am familiar with many hotels in this category there; in direct comparison, the standard is unfortunately significantly lower, particularly in terms of service and overall impression. Therefore, I do not consider the price-performance ratio to be appropriate.
To add to my impression: the hotel would probably benefit from having more direct competition in the upper segment in Accra. As far as I understand, there are essentially only a few hotels that clearly position themselves in the five-star range (e.g. this hotel and the Kempinski). Where competition is limited, there is sometimes a lack of constant incentive to really "prove" one's own standards on a daily basis – and it is precisely this consistency in service, cleanliness and attention to detail that I found lacking in places here.
Despite the points of criticism mentioned, the location and cuisine are clear plus points. However, if cleanliness, service quality, communication and tranquillity were improved, the hotel could come much closer to living up to its own standards.
