Mowgli Indian Street Food Restaurant Will Open in London for First Time | Eater London

"A growing Indian “street food” group founded by Nisha Katona that operates a dozen sites with six more planned, opening on Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia. The menu emphasizes chaats, dals and regional curries, and the founder framed the move as a longtime personal dream in an Instagram post; an early London critic (Marina O’Loughlin, 2015) previously found the food underseasoned." - James Hansen

Mowgli is one of those places that dikhta hai bilkul desi, but taste-wise gently whispers, “easy ho jao” 😄 Let’s start with the good stuff. The vibe is fab, service is warm, and the tiffin-box presentation is full nostalgia. Food arrives in school-style Indian lunch boxes and suddenly you’re mentally back in childhood, waiting for mummy to ask, “Tiffin poora khaya ya nahi?” Starters: The dahi puri was actually nice — balanced, fresh, and honestly the closest thing to proper Indian street food. Dil ne kaha, haan yeh theek hai. Mains: Now comes the reality check. The chicken and dal (served in very cute tiffins) were… not it. They look great for Instagram, but taste-wise they felt like Indian food after finishing finishing school in London 😅 Masale bole, “hum thoda kam bolenge.” Ironically, the boiled rice was the most authentic dish on the table — perfectly cooked, no fusion confusion, just pure apna kaam karta hua chawal 😂 Drinks: Cocktails are decent — not wah wah, but also not meh. Bas theek-thaak, like that friend who’s always on time but never exciting. Overall, Mowgli is Indian food for British tastebuds. Lots of show, beautiful presentation, great for someone who wants to “try Indian food” without actually committing to Indian flavours. If the mains ever decide to grow some proper desi masala, this place could easily be a 5-star banger. For now, it’s a solid 3 to 3.5 stars — acha experience, achi vibe, but ghar ka taste abhi door hai.

Christmas dinner 12 ppl set menu , the service was friendly but was a bit slow , we was a lot of us so don’t know how is when is smaller party , the food was ok the gun powder chicken was a bit to dry and small , the main was very delicious , the chat boms was my personal favourite:) dessert simple but very tasty ice cream in cone I had the mango . The restaurant itself looks beautiful instagram worthy so I would recommend to visit! I think I be back to try other dishes. Thanks for the good time ! Almost forget the mocktails was refreshing and tasty too .

After finding Nisha Katona’s recipe videos on Facebook we flew over from Spain specifically to visit this restaurant and we weren’t disappointed! Everything is amazing - beautiful location and cool décor, great atmosphere, lovely friendly staff, (especially Owen!) and of course the food is absolutely divine! If you want to have a fantastic experience we highly recommend this restaurant!

I think that the vegan options could be better. The vegan roti was like cardboard (dry / thin) so we ordered an paratha which was very thin (which is unusual / parathas are flakey and dense at the same time) . The waiter was kind enough to check what the ingredients were from the chef. We had that without butter. The vegan keema’s seasoning was strange. The spice wasn’t my favourite at all. The jeera was overpowering. I couldn’t finish it. They could do with more veg options, okra / aubergines etc. I did enjoy the tamarind fries and the mocktail. We would like some exciting vegan options on offer in order to return. The staff were friendly. The atmosphere could do with a tweak / more authentic music perhaps… it’s seemed unusually quiet. We could hear the staff in the kitchen - music would have been better.

Mowgli was wonderful experience! It was in my list since long time! And I celebrated my wife's birthday here! Food was good specially with the set menu and good vegetarian options are available! The ambition is classy, romantic! Service was outstanding, I would like mention SHRUTI for her excellent detailing! She knew its my wife's birthday and she specially brought us the birthday browny! Overall it was wonderful experience! I recommend this place!

Had such a lovely time here! Booked for a group of 5 and they managed to squeeze in an extra person to our party last minute which was really lovely of them! We got around 3 of their Sharing Menus which which ended up being more than enough food for a group of 6. The curries you get are supposed to be chef’s choice but our lovely server was able to put in a few request for us as we wanted specific curries. Amazing service from Sruthi all throughout the night! She was so lovely, attentive and informative. A nice end to the week to meet such a sweet person! Loved the tiffin style service and the presentation of everything was great. Unfortunately, I feel like a lot of the food was lacking flavour. Not bad at all, but wish there was a bit more punch. We were told that the food comes with mild spice, so perhaps requesting the food spicer would make it taste better. The stand out was the Paneer! It’s a must order for sure. The Yoghurt Chaat Bombs were nice, but didn’t have enough crunch for me since the yoghurt made the puri/bread a bit soggy. I feel like they should serve this with the yoghurts and sauce one the side to assemble yourself for a better, more fun and authentic bite. Ended with the choice of caramel ice cream and mango sorbet for dessert which came with the sharing menu and we were even given an extra complimentary chocolate brownie too. Such a lovely dining experience here. Despite the food not being the most special, the service and experience here was. Its worth a visit in a group for a nice great sharing plates vibe!

We had the Street Style Sharing Feast at £25pp sharing. The starters of pani puri was mouth watering & refreshing however thereafter we were disappointed in the flavour of the food, such that it was lacking. We requested salt to adjust the taste - however that is personal preference. Coming for a Durban South African Indian background, I expected more flavour through spices not heat through chillies. The mango lassi was prepared fresh for us which required a few minutes & gave an authentic unsweetened lassi For dessert we also had the option between Mango or Saltd Caramel Ice cream - a sweet end to the meal Felt mislead with the Instagram reviews in terms of flavour - I recommend Dishoom for more flavourful food.

Nice Indian restaurant. At least for my taste buds. I liked it more than some of the competitors that I've tried. Nice portions and fairly priced. The service was very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this place and definitely I'll go again
