Moxy Chicago Downtown

"Why did this hotel catch your attention? What's the vibe? Neon pink light strips punctuate the façade of Moxy Chicago, an eight-story Downtown hotel that's a bit like a rec room—for adults. Inside is no less loud, with a lobby stuffed to the gills with all manner of aesthetic distractions. Reception feels like an extension of the bar; a piñata sits on the tabletop; graffiti covers exposed concrete walls; shuffleboard and foosball populate the common space; and there's even a podcasting booth. What's the backstory? Debuting in 2014, Moxy, Marriott International's millennial-focused brand, actively courts that demographic with an emphasis on playful, affordable amenities that don't skimp on style or quality. Tell us all about the accommodations. Any tips on what to book? Moxy's Downtown location affords many of the rooms unimpeded views of the impressive Chicago skyline—particularly those facing south and east. The setup serves the panorama, and not much else. It's a small footprint with an open floor plan; in other words, there's no designated bathroom or closet. The shower and toilet are partitioned off by a translucent door, and your clothes hang on pegs along the wall. High-speed internet is included in the room rate, but in-room services (including phones) are nonexistent. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi? WiFi is free and fast. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at? Food and drink options are limited to two venues: Zombie Taco, which dishes out flavorful fare around the clock and includes an outdoor patio as well as a walk-up window for those on-the-go, and Bar Moxy, a casual lobby hang with comically titled cocktails that pack a punch. Local beers and ciders are on tap, and the booze selection leans heavily toward mezcal and tequila. And the service? Service at Moxy is minimal by design; there's no concierge or in-room services to speak of. But the staff you do interact with are courteous and efficient. The tacos come out fast, the cocktails are poured stiff, and the common areas are kept clean. What type of travelers will you find here? These folks are here for a good time—not a long time. They're comparing Instagram photos over happy hour drinks, crowdsourcing proper captions for the occasion and playing Jenga while sipping Palomas. What about the neighborhood? Does the hotel fit in, make itself part of the scene? Chicago's River North neighborhood is dense with options. Moxy stands out for its low-fi pizzazz, which dials trades pampering for competitive rates. Perched amid Downtown's most famous bars and restaurants, the hotel enjoys an enviable location for any first-time visitor to the Windy City. Is there anything you'd change? In-room dining would be nice; after all, who doesn't want late-night tacos in bed? Any other hotel features worth noting? In search of something lively during your stay? Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights feature live DJ sets in the lobby bar. Bottom line: Worth it? Why? If you're not utilizing your room for anything more than mere crashpad, Moxy is a thoughtfully priced option with an unapologetically irreverent vibe." - Brad Japhe

The Moxy was in a great location and beautifully decorated from the lobby to the room. The lobby had the usual Moxy fun and games and trendy atmosphere, with evening activities both nights I stayed (speed dating and a local DJ). The lobby also has water and free coffee all day/night. The room was a bit small, but felt more spacious because it was a corner room with floor to ceiling windows on two walls, with a great city view. However the bed felt more like a full than a queen (good thing my husband wasn't traveling with me!). The toilet was in its own room and the sink was in the bedroom. The shower stall also opened right into the main area of the room. Cool concept but not super practical unless you are traveling alone. I am not sure if there were any bigger rooms in the hotel but there wasn't anything available during my stay. Still loved the atmosphere and super nice staff!

Um wow. Enjoyed the city is past weekend and let me tell you, I will be BACK! I have two toddlers and this place is a vibe. Not your typical bland hotel. Tons of lively music, life and games fill the lobby that is much more a chic bar environment than a service desk. Truly all the staff have been SO SWEET! Housekeeping, front desk, bar staff and all, absolutely fantastic and clearly enjoy their roles. You can tell right away when someone is just plugging away and getting the job done, not these guys. They clearly love the environment and serving their guest with flair and fun! Again, I am super surprised it was a good spot for small kids but here I am looking to book another weekend!

Google
Stayed 3 nights and not disappointed. Bed super comfortable! Room is small but it didn't bother us. I love that the sink is outside of the bathroom. The Zombie taco place was delicious, ate something from there daily. I would love to know what kind of mattress they have in the rooms.

Google
Super nice staff at the bar and at the front desk. This hotel reminded me of a chain called 25Hours in Europe, in all the right ways. Minimalist, clean, trendy (younger vibe without being pretentious/unaccepting), comfortable and affordable. The bed and pillows were comfortable, good night’s sleep was easy. The shower was perfect pressure with quality soaps included. The city view room was beautiful. Lobby and common areas were clean, bar wasn’t too busy the few nights I walked through. Location was easy for the river walk or most desirable things. Typical Chicago street noise outside, higher floors are obviously better if possible. Great experience overall!

Google
Bring shower shoes - the shower floors are extremely slippery. My husband and I almost fell every time we showered. The pillow are two options - 1. Inflated balloon pillows or deflated balloon pillows. This property could afford to invest in better pillows. I slept atrociously all week. The toilets struggle to flush here. This isn’t the first Moxy property to have that issue. They clearly buy cheap toilets. Overall if you need a night or two in a newer hotel this is great but any more time than that is a headache here.

Google
I recently stayed at the Moxy Hotel and had a great experience from start to finish. The hotel has a fun, modern vibe with a social atmosphere that makes it stand out from typical hotel chains. The lobby feels like a hangout spot rather than a check-in area, which immediately sets the tone. A real highlight of my stay was the bar—and especially bartender Simon. Simon was not only professional and quick behind the bar, but he also brought great energy and genuine conversation. He took the time to ask what kind of flavors I liked and made a custom cocktail that was honestly one of the best I’ve had

Google
In a great little spot, plenty to walk to and has some amazing people running this hotel! Check in was seamless, room was spotless and every time I saw a staff member they were smiling. Hallways tended to be noisy at random parts of the day and the room was not fully darkened by the shades which was a slight annoyance when I wanted to sleep in. Minimalist room, which is exactly what this brand has always been about- I would definitely return!

Google
Kind of a quaint hotel more of a hipster style. Beds were uncomfortable ended up checking out early because I didn't like the condition of the room considering some of the outlets were not working in the room. Massive window facing traffic. This hotel has extremely loud traffic going by. And you can hear it inside your room. The hotel hallway looks like a haunted house. Definitely would not recommend this place. Unless you're a hipster looking for a place with a taco bar and a liquor bar. On top of that all they have is a workout area and no swimming pool. Very misleading in their advertisement and their website on Marriott. I honestly cannot believe this was part of the Marriott chain.

Yelp
This was my fourth time staying at Moxy, my first in Chicago. The experience was excellent. Moxy is part of the Marriott portfolio and is marketed for those seeking a more vibrant experience. The accommodations are European style, so the rooms are tight but functional. This venue was perfect as it offers a full-bar, restaurant and other amenities. It offers a hip or trendy vibe with many things to do in the lobby. Access is good. Trains are about three - four blocks away and you are about one mile west of lake Michigan. Check-in was swift and very professional. You are provided a little bag with two waters and a drink chit for a cocktail. There is the Zombit taco grill as part of the venue. A microwave is located in the lobby and they also have a Happy Hour.

Yelp
Is it a bar? A lounge? A game room? A hotel? Yes, the Moxy hotel in Chicago is all of hose things. We booked the Moxy for a few nights without fully understanding what it's all about. While it is a Marriott brand, the Moxy line of hotels is not your grandfather's boring hotel with conference rooms, large ballrooms, and valets. You walk in and see a funky, colorful bar with "graffiti" on some walls, table games, sofas and young people (mostly) hanging out with modern music playing--very lounge-like. It doesn't seem like it's marketed for the older, stale, suit-and-tie demographic. More like jeans, t-shirts and sneakers crowd. It is a fun place to hang out, have a margarita or other kinds of original-recipe cocktails. There is no sit-down restaurant, but there is the Zombie Taco place inside the Moxy serving delicious tacos for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Coffee is also on the menu, as are other food items and assorted beverages. The room we stayed in was small. There was no closet, but we did have hangers on a long rack along the wall. It was bright, with floor-to-ceiling windows. The platform bed was comfortable, but not quite what you see at a "normal" Marriott. The room was clearly not designed for guests to stay in all day and night. It's simply a place to sleep, and get cleaned up for the day's activities. There is a small room with a toilet, but the small shower is in the room, as in there is no fully enclosed bathroom with a toilet, sink and shower in it. The sink and shower are both part of the room, if you will. If you're with a friend or partner, don't expect much privacy in the room, other than the toilet room. I loved the Moxy in Chicago. It is funky, fun and not stuffy. I've heard from friends who live in Chicago that they go to that hotel just for drinks at the bar. It's a good choice, as it is located in River North, the "fun" part of town. Just don't go stay there expecting a full Marriott experience.

Yelp
Not a guest, but did visit the bar for the first time. From the moment you step into Moxy's hotel bar, you notice the decor! As if stepping into an Instagram-worthy dream, with vibrant colors, quirky art pieces, and cozy seating areas begging you to kick back and relax. But let's talk about the drinks! Moxy serves up delicious drinks, their sweeter cocktails caught my eye! Friendly and attentive staff! And can't forget the taco bar inside. They were so good, my friend took a taco in her purse for a late night snack! Definitely a fun pitstop when in the River North area.

Yelp
Staying at this location made me want to visit all the Moxy locations. Such a cool vibe in every aspect. The lobby is so cool with decor, games, a bar and a place to get Zombie Tacos but also snacks and also coffee. You are given a token at check in to redeem for a drink, water or coffee. So many things to do and an interact with in little niche areas. I went to an event here years ago and they had a DJ during my stay. Right across from a place where you can spend quality time with adorable animals. Very close to public transit and theatre and near downtown. The room is so modern and I enjoy the style a lot. Recycling in the room which I appreciate. Comfy bed. The toilet is separate from the sink and the shower is literally arms length away from the bed! That is very unique! Overall cool aesthetic and very nice staff upon check in and check out.

Yelp
This is a beautiful modern design hotel. Reasonably priced room and close to downtown. The staff were professional and helpful. I'd say this hotel is more for couples or single people, not so much family. Even though they got plenty of games the vibe at night is for grownups The taco restaurant located here is nice. Hotel is walking distance to almost everything you need. My only complaint was that I wanted my room colder. It was on winter setting according to a staff member. Still, would definitely recommend this hotel.

Yelp
A fun unique experience at the Moxy! Hits: - Check in at the bar, they give you one voucher poker chip per guest that can be used at their bar (for special cocktail) or cafe. - built in restaurant (zombie taco) and bar, open till 2am. - Limited channels but it is a smart tv that has a google chrome cast. - Clean room + bathroom. -Bright and clean walk in shower. -Close to river north + surrounded by restaurants. - We had close parking, looked around on spot hero - 24hrs for $25. Misses: - No garbage bin in room besides bathroom. - Our view was quite unpleasant and disappointing to say the least. When we called to switch rooms they were fully booked up so we were stuck with that view. - No mini fridge or microwave. Be mindful the room is compact which may not be everyones style. Also if u don't specify city view you will get monkey view.

Yelp
If you're looking for a cute, cozy, trendy vibe type of hotel, stay here! It was our first time staying at this hotel that my Hubby came across and I'm glad he chose it and booked it! This hotel was nice from the inside out! Upon walking into the lobby, you get a nice vibe. Their set up was well thought out. A lot of spaces to chill, eat, drink, all within the moment you walk in! They also had Zombie taco inside which was open late. That was nice. Upon checking in, we were given two complimentary drink tokens. Rooms were a little on the small side. We requested a mini fridge which was brought up to us quickly. Shower was nice with good water pressure and hot water. Our view of the alley wasn't great but that didn't bother us. We had an overall great weekend stay and will be back again!

Yelp
Stopped in for a cocktail at their bar for happy hour. Got the blood orange margarita which was very good. The bartender was very friendly along with others at the hotel. Worth stopping in to check them out. It was quieter than at a regular bar which is what I was looking for.
google avatar

Felonius M.

Yelp
Enjoyed this spot! Drinks were tasty. Food was Zombie Tacos. Non-traditional tacos but tasty. Various sections offering some separation from other groups.

Yelp
I feel bad not giving this place a five star review because I think you could really argue that I am the problem. After staying here, it is extremely clear that this hotel is targeting a much younger demographics than me. I am simply not the target audience here. The vibe is young and hip. Unfortunately, I am not young and hip. So while a cool lobby with a DJ is a great thing for a lot of people, it's just not for me. But for the right audience, this hotel would be tough to beat. Service was friendly.our room with our room was small but cool. But we can hear noise from the lobby in our room was small, but cool. But we could hear noise from the lobby in our room, which wasn't great for getting a good night of sleep. So this place is not for me, but a lot of people areSo this place is not for me, but a lot of people are really going to love it, and that's totally fine.

Yelp
Some hits and misses during my stay. The hits: -Location. Located a block from River North area. Plenty of restaurants/bars/shopping within walking distance. -Ambiance in the lobby is lively with fun decor and plenty of games all surrounding a bar. -Room is modern and minimalist and clean. Used the hair dryer, steamer and Netflix on the tv. -Free drink tokens. Got to try their signature moxie sugary cocktail, but was unable to use the rest of my tokens; see below. The misses: -Parking garage located a couple of blocks away. $49/night. No valet. -Service. Tried a couple of times to grab a night cap before 10pm, but no bartender on both nights. Also, asked for some fresh towels and the pile of towels was just left on a bench in the room. -Only room left with 2 beds had bunk beds. We got to pretend we were back in college. -View looked into another building which was empty and under construction. -Bathroom bulb burnt out my last evening and had to use my phone flashlight to see.

Yelp
Had a wonderful stay at the Moxy! Loved the decor, the atmosphere, and the service. Some highlights: - Room was very comfortable and in a great central location to explore the city - Great food and bev. I got two casino chips which we redeemed for a very yummy boozy punch at the bar. They also had a rare barrel aged malört for us to try. The happy hour tacos are delicious and affordable - Lobby area has arcade machines and shuffleboard to play Overall, its a great place to stay as a tourist or grab a drink in the neighborhood!

Yelp
Perfect hotel if you're looking more for the vibe than lap of luxury comfort. Living quarters are very, very tight, but we had a floor to ceiling window with a view of Willis Tower so that was cool. Room is equipped with lots of pegs and hangers because there is no closet. Shower is literally in the room. So is the sink. Thankfully they put the toilet in a separate bathroom so I wouldn't have to stare at my husband while taking a dump and vice versa. Bed was firm and large. Proud and humbled to announce that not once did I run into the sharp corners of the bed frame. Flat screen tv is equipped with a chromecast. Downstairs is a bar and taco shop, along with fun games scattered around the lobby such as Mortal Kombat, Pac-Man, foozeball, that board where you slide hockey pucks for points, numerous jenga sets, a mini-giant scrabble board, and many boxed games. The dj was in point on a Friday night. Location is central to anywhere you want to be, and Lyfts are abundant. I probably won't stay in this Moxy or another Moxy anymore because I'm more about the comfort and space than I'm about the vibe, but for those who aren't old bitter hags, this place is for you!
google avatar

Ayad F.

Yelp
We were walking around downtown and decided to check this place out. Great place to sit down and relax. Affordable drinks. Before we left we played few rounds of foosball. There was a Mortal Kombat and Pac-Man arcade machines as well. Friendly service. Great vibe. Strongly recommend.

Yelp
I would describe this as an upgraded hostel. The complimentary drink was not good, the pillows were uncomfortably bulky, and the room was so dry it hurt our sinuses. We also got woken up at 3am due to a hysterical woman yelling in the hallway. The big plus of this hotel is location and the staff were very helpful but I wouldn't stay here again.
google avatar

Amna A.

Yelp
I dropped by their bar during happy hour for a cocktail and opted for the blood orange margarita, which was excellent. The bartender and other staff at the hotel were exceptionally friendly. Definitely worth a visit to experience their hospitality. Plus, it was quieter than your average bar, which was exactly what I was seeking.
google avatar

Yelp
Hitting a Moxy bar in any state you're in is never a bad idea, whether you're staying at the hotel or not. The bar is located on the main floor and had a huge area of games and cards to play while enjoying your drink. There's a live Dj and the bartenders are very helpful. There connected to a taco spot that's open late, and they have a happy hour M-F 4 to 6p, stop by if you're in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Moxy has become my go-to hotel whenever I'm in chicago for business. I appreciate the laid back, chill vibe throughout. Check-in was a breeze, as always. They give you a drink on the house! The elevator has a nice safety feature, only allowing the room key holder access to all floors. The rooms always clean, cozy and functional. It's a hop place- check em out!

Yelp
Hey Brandon is the best!!!! My friends and I were out for Sunday Funday brunch so we decided to have our last cocktail of the day at Moxy. As soon as we walk through the revolving doors my group and I are pleasantly greeted by the bartender Brandon. He was given the assignment to craft a signature cocktail of a random bottle we selected from the bar shelf. This guy really went above and beyond! He talked us through it and even asked questions about our preferences/allergies then proceeded to finish the night off with the smoothest sweetest cocktail that is ever had. Aside from the drink, it was an amazing experience. Thank Brandon at the bar of The Moxy
google avatar

Sydney M.

Yelp
This review is for only the bar/lounge: probably the most chill and relaxing bar in the area, drinks (for River North...) aren't priced as high as other places and the games they have are a lot of fun and the chairs and couches are super comfortable!
google avatar

Amber J.

Yelp
The Moxy is a vibe. You feel that as soon as you walk in the door. The front desk staff checked me in quickly and answered all my questions. A fun little perk upon check in you get a complimentary drink token. Try the signature Moxy cocktail it doesn't disappoint. Room Pros--The room was very clean. The bed was super comfortable and I had a great view of the city. The room has cable and you are able to log into your Netflix or Pandora. It comes with a steamer for your clothes, a hairdryer and makeup wipes. In the shower area the usual shampoo, conditioner and body wash. When I needed additional linens they were brought to my room promptly. Cons-The room is small but you should expect that from a boutique style hotel. If you have a lot of items to hang up, you will have to pick and choose as there isn't a lot of space for that. The blinds were not working properly when I arrived but were fixed quickly. The lights in the room aren't super bright but they make up for it with the floor to ceiling windows. One other thing I wasn't able to get a mobile key as the system was down. Bar/Lounge/Food Pros--Brandon was the bartender on duty during my entire stay. He made excellent drinks and was really friendly. He remembered my name the whole stay. The lounge has a lot of seating spaces and has games for you to enjoy. The decor is very unique. The taco spot on site was good. The serving sizes were really good. Cons--Although there is a lot of seating it fills up quickly especially during the times there is a DJ. So if you want to head down for that go early. The website said that the food spot was open all day however there were limited hours which may have been due to COVID. That was a little disappointing especially the day it was pouring raining and we didn't want to head out. Overall, Moxy is the place to be. It was fun and cool.

Yelp
I have moxie, and so do you! I loved this cute boutique styled hotel, and definitely was not my first experience with the Moxy line by Marriott. I usually try to hunt one down whenever I'm in a city that has them because I'd rather have a more chic and personable experience than the standard Marriott room which I feel like is very similar at many other hotels they own. The bartender/check in gentleman, Andres, was super helpful and friendly. I did not have a reservation because it was a last min decision due to weather delaying my flight and therefore leaving me stranded in the Chi area. He was quick and efficient, made me a complimentary beverage, and gave me the run down about the vaccination card bracelet, restaurant in the hotel, hours and operations and the whole bit. Thanks Andres because I got food in time before the lobby closed which I'm so thankful that I did! My room was cute - albeit small, but that's to be expected. I enjoyed the comfort of the bed and I'm always surprised with how soft they are! I watched the Olympics and saw the beautiful snow flurry around my windows where I peered out of my corner room and got a nice visual of the skyline. I stayed in this snowy evening, but I loved my room and had mucho comfort. I will be seeing you again soon, Moxy!

Yelp
I loved this hotel! It has a cool, modern industrial vibe and very creative ambiance. The registration was at the bar, which I thought was interestingly unexpected. Had a couple drinks in the bar, which were tasty and reasonably priced, given the location and city. The bar/lobby was nightclub lively and featured a Dj and various life-sized and board games that made being there with a group lots of fun. My room had the same industrial look and was nicely decorated with an efficient design. It was clean, comfortable and quiet. I will say the room may not be for the traveler who likes the traditional type of hotel with lush, large-sized accommodations and high-end amenities (re: the Ritz-Carleton), which I personally find over-the-top and unnecessary. However, this hotel is far from "slumming it". The location is safe and convenient to all the downtown bars and restaurants. Zombie Taco is the featured restaurant. Food was fresh, tasty and decently priced. The staff was also very friendly. Loved this hotel and would happily stay here again.

Yelp
If you are looking for the hotel of fun, this is it. Definitely designed with youthfulness in mind this hotel is eclectic in atmosphere. The lobby has several different seating sections and a plethora of games such as Uno, Connect Four, Scrabble and mini Mortal Kombat. Zombie Taco is located to the side and fills the lobby air with the smells of Mexican seasoned meat. At check-in, you are provided a token for a complimentary cocktail which was perfect after a morning of travel. The room is smaller than I'm accustomed to and the bathroom sink is in the main room area. The shower is located next to the bed, with a closed door and opaque/shaded walls and the toilet has a full door closing it off from the main room space. No closet, no iron, but instead there are 4 or 5 hangers which double as wall art to hang your main items on, select wisely. The space is meant to be minimalistic so there's no desk or separate chairs for sitting, however there was a bench which I used to hold my suitcase. Friday and Saturday nights, there was a DJ on deck turning the full lobby into a party. Be aware that Saturday night spaces are allowed to be reserved and hotel guest do not get preferential treatment. Zombie Taco is open until 2a and those Brisket Taquitos (only 2 in a serving) were a hit at Midnight! Make sure to get Sour Cream and the Red Salsa. Check-out was shaky as I had requested the complimentary extra hour for a noon check-out, however when I returned from breakfast at 11:30, found my key turned off which resulted in additional trips down and back up again. I was told that all the hotel keys reset at 11a, but interestingly enough, 2 others in my group didn't have that problem. Great location in River North with many eating options close by for walking: Portillos, McDonald's and Bar Cargo were a few we had. Oh and Starbucks is a block and 1/2 up right inside Target. Enjoy!

Yelp
Location is great and near many restaurants. Plenty of amenities and bar is great. But the front desk service is a bit lacking and NOT getting cleaning everyday at $400 a night is a bit much since are rooms are so small and only a tiny trash bin.

Yelp
I've been to a Moxy in Arizona which was outstanding and the Chicago location did not disappoint. I got in early and they were able to accommodate an early checkin, but I was more looking forward to the *free* checkin drink. The room was bit small, but perfect for just me. I found it interesting that the shower was literally right next to the bed. The bed was comfy and I had a great view from my window. It was close to the office and a 30 minute walk to Navy Pier. The staff was very polite and able to answer my questions on suggestions of places to eat nearby. I'd absolutely stay here again.

Yelp
Two girlfriends and I stayed here while we were visiting Chicago for a girls weekend. We all live near and sometimes frequent the bar at a Moxy in Columbus, Ohio so we kind of knew what to expect when we booked our room. That process was easy and I did it online. However, I did have to call to make a change and that was done over the phone. It was really easy and they were happy to make the adjustment. We were staying for three nights and when we arrived early to check-in, they already had a room ready for us. This was totally surprising because we were several hours early and just expecting them to hold our bags. It was much appreciated. We also each received a free drink token to use at the bar during our stay. What a fun perk! Our room had two queen beds and while it faced a concrete wall so we had absolutely no view, it was quiet and that was nice. No fridge or microwave or anything like that, which was a little bit of a bummer. A mini fridge would be nice because they didn't have ice machines either. It was impossible to keep anything cold. However, our room did have a few amenities like a blow dryer, steamer, shampoo and body wash in the shower, etc. They also weren't doing room service due to COVID so if we needed the trash taken out or new towels, they were a call away. Good thing was they were fast! At one point the electric blinds weren't working and we had to have an engineer come fix them. Within hours they weren't working again but whatever. Downstairs the vibe was lively and fun. We stuck around for drinks a few times and our first night there we got tacos from their in-house restaurant, Zombie Taco. Overall, I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to singles, couples, and the younger crowd. I wouldn't stay here with kids or anything like that. If that sounds like you, enjoy your stay!

Yelp
A vibe! This place is modern and super cute! If you are looking for a good time then stay at the Moxy. I loved the view and how quaint the room was. I was given a complimentary drink upon arrival to start my stay off right! Only concern I have is that when it's time for bed, you won't be able to fall asleep until after the dj leaves which is at 1 AM Other than that, this place is in a good spot where you can walk anywhere. Yelp
I love the Moxy. It's such a vibe hotel. They have games downstairs and a DJ at night. The taco place is a nice touch. The rooms are super small so ask for an accessible room!

Yelp
Let's talk about The Moxy in Chicago! This hotel is nothing to sleep on ( but a great place to sleep in) from the staff, to the aesthetic of the lobby, rooms and the cool zombie taco cafe, it's not a place you want to miss. My boyfriend and I decided to stay here for our first venture into Chicago and we are soooo happy we did. I loved it! whether you are staying at the hotel or not, you have to check our the lobby bar. They have a DJ on the weekend playing the best 90s and 2000s hits so literally the place turns into a club! The best experience we had we had was with the bartender, Garret. GARRETT! Omg. Words cannot describe the electricity he was bringing. A former Vegas and GoGo bartender, this man can perform!!!! So personable, kind and makes bomb ass drinks! (Order the baby Rex) When we come back to Chicago we will def be staying here! Thanks Garrett!!

Yelp
Decent bar with good selection of cocktails. I went on a Friday night and the bar was popping! They had good music, not too loud. It definitely is more upscale than a bar, feels a bit clubby. It's a good place to go with friends. Prices are standard for River North and a hotel bar.

Yelp
This place is so fun!! I love the vibe, the decor, the bartenders, drinks, even the wall paper in the women's restroom. Not joking. It is monkeys drinking out of vodka bottles. Love it. We had some killer cocktails made by the cool bartender, Adam, and listened to some jams from the DJ spinning on a Friday night. Great vibe. I realized there was a Moxy back in Denver after we had stopped in, so now I need to check out that location as well. Hope it is as awesome as the Chicago one.

Yelp
Can we say, trendy??? Finding any bar to "walk-in" to during the covid era weekends has proven to be pretty impossible, but we got lucky on a late rainy Saturday. I've been here twice years apart. For some reason, I was expecting it to be mostly a younger crowd, but it seemed to have a pretty diverse mix. Ambiance was upbeat, definitely somewhere to come with friends and listen to some good music. Decorations were very hip, and the drinks were strong. Finding the bathroom was a bit of a mission, but once you get up there, you realize that you're actually in a hotel as well. We were in Nashville a couple of weeks ago too and were happy to discover another Moxy hotel to take a break in from all the crazy bars on the street. It seems like a great chain, and I look forward to finding more in other states!

Yelp
Weird room - there's no place to unpack your things - no drawers or anything. There's a few hooks on walls but even with that there's not enough. No iron or coffee maker in the room either. Feels like a hotel room on an IKEA budget. Good location but for the money, the Kimpton would be a much better option.

Yelp
Stopped here after having food and drinks with friends sown the street! The hostess greeted and seated us within minutes! Music was great! Upbeat, trendy and the perfect volume! Drinks were good as well! Strong and tasty!!

Yelp
My friend stayed at the Moxy Chicago Downtown a while back. I spent the day at her hotel and found it to be a cute, casual hotel in the heart of the city. The vibe is fun and unpretentious. The decor is kind of mid-century rec room cool. There's a record player, board games, books and other quirky things throughout the lobby. To check in to your room, you must go to the bar. The bartenders are also the front desk agents. Once you get your room keys you also get a cocktail voucher. Fun! We went up to the room and I found it to be just as unique as the lobby. The closet is hooks on a wall, the telephone is old school. The headboard on the bed is leather or leather look. The bathroom is classic subway tile and a penny tile floor. Large floor to ceiling windows allowed a ton of natural light in, making to room appear larger than it is. Every area of the place was spotless. I love that. Out in the hall, there is a communal ironing board. A life size cute guy decal is on the wall for a little whimsey. Hangers are out there too. It's a great idea as long as the iron and board are kept clean. The music, decor, bar and various seating areas create a fantastic first impression. The service was great from everyone I encountered. The room was basic but felt better than that. While I didn't stay at the hotel, I liked what I saw. My friend said she would stay there again.

Yelp
After having issues with booking this hotel from home, I was a bit skeptical that things in Chicago would work in my favor. But after spending 12 hours on a train to Chicago, it was nice to just walk around downtown (and lucky enough that the Union Station stop was in downtown) to get to the hotel. It's also a good thing that I mapped out the route to the hotel beforehand, otherwise I would have been lost. Checked in, put all my stuff down in the room, and actually got to take a shower before going downstairs to get something to eat. Luckily, Zombie Tacos was still open late at night. So I got three tacos, which were great (although part of that impression may have been colored by the fact that I hadn't had a solid meal in 12 hours), chomped them down, and settled in for the night. I honestly didn't do much but watch some TV. Since my friends didn't watch anything while I was at their place, I felt cut off from the world. But there wasn't anything on TV worthy of watching that was current so I put on The Fugitive just so I could turn my brain off. This hotel seems to be all in on the space integration concept. There's no separation between the bar, the taco restaurant, the activity area, and the check-in desk. I didn't really hear everything the front desk guy was telling me because of the loud music playing over the PA system for the bar. My room on the fourth floor didn't have any separation between the stand-up shower and the bed, for example. But really, all I needed was a bed and a place to shower. The basics. No frills. Plus, it helps the place is in an ideal location, just about a mile away from most major sights in downtown Chicago. I also realized that the hotel is also right down the street from a CTA stop, which was a nice benefit when I had to go to the Cubs game the next day. The activity area on the ground floor looked pretty cool, full of books and records to play on a record player. I did like the old Mortal Kombat arcade game. I played a few games, although it's been at least 20 years since I've played that game so I got beaten badly by the computer.

Yelp
I'd give Moxy a cautious 2 thumbs up - you'll either love it or hate it. I found things to love and things that I didn't love at all. First, location is great - you can walk to many downtown attractions and there are tons of restaurants in walking distance. I needed to be at the Mart and this was just a few blocks away. The space is definitely "cool" - a lot cooler than I'll ever be. The lobby is designed for spending lots of time in, which is good as the rooms aren't great for that (more info later). There's games, a 24/7 taco place, a big bar and plenty of places to lounge with your friends. Rooms are really small - basically a bed, sink and shower. I had a queen that was really a double. There's no closet - just these stupid hangers on pegs that honestly suck. No real storage space, space to work or anywhere to eat a thing either. No ironing gear - rooms have steamers but if you want to iron you go to a common area on every other floor. That's stupid too, as the point of ironing is because your shit is not wearable. No privacy coming out of the shower at all, so stay solo or be comfortable with your roomie seeing all of you. Now - on to the good stuff. My room was really clean, and I heard no street noise at all. None! You get a free & delicious drink when you check in! And all the staff, especially bartender Turquoise, seemed to make it their mission to be welcoming. I think this would be a great hotel for a couples weekend in the city. Despite some drawbacks, I would stay again.

I have had the most amazing time here the bartenders Danae, Quinn and Anthony have been amazing they make the best drinks and have the best recommendations! Come here !

Yelp
I hosted a small private event at Moxy in February. Kayla and Noelle, the managers, went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. After scoping out a few other venues, I opted for Moxy. Kayla was the determining factor. Many of the other choices overcomplicated things. ..too many rules and restrictions. I'm an easy-going stress free guy and that's how Kayla operates. She was super chill as we put together the quick game plan a few weeks in advance. On the day of the event, she made sure the drinks were flowing and everyone enjoyed the food from Zombie Taco. .. especially the Korean Cheesesteak. Considering the high level of hospitality, I'm certain the hotel stays are exceptional as well. I can't overstate how great it was to work with their entire team. I look forward to planning a staycation sometime soon.

Yelp
Walking by after leaving a nice bar around the corner, my girlfriend and and I decided to take chance and step in. It looked pretty cool, hip library feel. We were greeted with a " hey guys!". We asked to be addressed as ladies. He responded " I say that to everyone". My girlfriend said " we would prefer to be addressed as ladies, which now felt confrontational. The staff should have said, got it, hi ladies. We sat at the bar and another gentleman attended to us, great, or so I thought. My girlfriend ordered the street corn, which was good. The bartender put the corn on the table as her back was towards him. We felt he could have said, here you go enjoy. He served the gentleman next to us and did say " here you go, enjoy!" We're starting to feel that it's because we are women of transgender experience. The service was not good and the thank you did not genuine. I would not recommend this place to any woman of transgender experience or the LGTBQ plus community. Just when I thought we were moving forward, this establishment reminded me that there is still work to be done. I'll make sure to blog about it on FB and IG. I'll try one more time in the future. Everyone deserves a chance to get it right.

Yelp
In town for business and decided to sneak over to Moxy for Cinco - the staff were super nice and helpful. The food was really good and I literally had to tell myself to stop ordering the delicious margs! 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
What brought us to the Moxy: 1) Cover-free NYE and 2) 90s party, what?! What will keep us coming back to the Moxy: 1) Awesome staff (special shoutout to Westin w/the dreads for taking such great care of us), 2) fair prices, 3) DELICIOUS food, 4) kick ass vibe, and 5) those oh so cute puppy and kitty clips mixed in with some cringeworthy, time to re-evaluate your life choices clips. Ya'll, I'm the super frugal type, so paying $100+ pp for the honor of dining on pre-made snacks from GFS and throwing elbows all night long to get watered-down drinks just doesn't fly with me. After some fierce googling and yelping for last-minute NYE plans, I came across the Moxy and thought, hey, 90s night, who WOULDN'T have fun? Add in a cover-free entry and I. AM. SO. THERE! Thankfully, the Moxy didn't do us wrong. The staff were so on top of their game, from the barback clearing glasses as soon as they were emptied to the bartenders who tirelessly kept our drinks coming to the SUPER YUMMY taquitos I ordered from the in-house taco stand. Most importantly, it didn't cost an arm and a leg! I think my Newcastle beer was $5ish and the cocktails were around $10-$12 a pop. My order of 2 beef & cheese taquitos was only $5! The epic burrito with a little bit of everything ran $9. AND there were free games like giant connect 4 and Uno cards. The location is great as well as we were staying on the Mile and were able to walk to the Moxy. Not too sure what kind of music they play other nights, but this will definitely be my go-to lounge next time I'm in town. Over and out--

Yelp
The food is good, the ambiance is neat... aside from the tourists, you never really feel like you're in a hotel bar/restaurant/lounge. Bartenders and wait staff are all pretty good.

Yelp
I've spent a few nights at the Bar at Moxy and finally took the plunge and did a hotel stay here. First off the bar is great. I've stumbled in here with a friend when it was pretty busy on a Friday evening in July and had superb service and great drinks. My favorite drink is the prickly pair. The gentleman with the long dreds seems to live there as he is always there bartending when I've been there and has always been fantastic. The 2nd time I went to a show at JBTV and met a friend for a drink on a Sunday afternoon. It wasn't very crowded and again attentive service. The 3rd time I came for an event with Bumble. The place was packed and the bar staff still kept up. The 4th time was for NYE. I came for the 90s party and booked a room. I would describe The Moxy as a "European" style hotel or Posh hostel. The bar area has couches, board games, shuffleboard, foosball and bean bag chairs. The rooms are tiny, but functional and cute. Some minor cons *There is no ironing board in the room, instead there is an ironing station in the hall. *There are no ice machines or mini fridges. However, we called down to the front desk and they brought us up an ice bucket. *There is no closet, but rather hooks to hang your clothes. *No desk, has a folding TV tray Some pros *the hair dryer is an actual real hair dryer *the bed was comfy *room was super clean *tv had blue tooth compatibility to stream music from our phones FYI The shower and toilet are separate rooms. Overall for one or two nights the Moxy is perfect. However, if I was staying here for a week for work I would probably want a place to hang up my clothes and a mini fridge. I'd give the hotel 4 stars and the bar 5...so I rounded this review up to 5. :)

Yelp
The Moxy not only has all of the basic things you expect with a hotel like cleanliness, towels, etc., but they also have a full bar, taco restaurant, and area with games in the lobby. They have a DJ and music at night until 2 a.m. sometimes. It is really fun! The location is great and easy walking distance to downtown (Michigan Ave area, Mag Mile, Water Tower, etc.) There's also a Portillo's right next door. The rooms are small and organized a bit awkward with the shower directly next to the bed. It is organized as bed, shower with no curtain or door to hide as going into the shower, vanity (also in middle of room), toilet in a closed space. So, that could be a problem depending on if sharing a room and with who.

Yelp
Moxy is a hotel chain made for a younger generation... or those who consider themselves young at heart. As you enter the hotel, it feels like you're stepping into a night club. You check in at the bar, which will offer you a complimentary cocktail while a dj is spinning just a few feet away. The lobby not only features a few tables and couches with some board games, think checkers, mini Hungry Hungry Hippos, etc..., but also includes an air hockey and a shuffleboard table. A cool little perk, there are plug ins and USB chargers throughout the room, which is nice in our electronic cloud-based environment. Moving on to the rooms, they are cool, very modern and also very very small. My room didn't even have a desk in it. It didn't have a closet either. Just a twin bed and a small area for my amenities. There were pegs on the wall next to the flat screen tv for any clothes I needed to hang. I didn't have an issue with this because i wasn't in my room much, but I could see it being an issue if I was a business traveler or on vacation with my family. Echoing the lobby a bit, the room also had a number of electric outlets and USB charging stations for my electronics. Hotel guests also receive free and unlimited wifi access, which is nice. While the hotel really promoted and talked up its active nightlife vibe, once you got out of the main lobby, it was actually fairly quiet. I got back a little late, but once I was in my room I didn't have any noise issues and was able to get a decent night's sleep. To close, if you're a younger traveler or somebody young at heart who is on the move and loves to not only live life, but also get out and enjoy your surroundings, you will love staying at a Moxy hotel. If you're a business traveler who might want to relax at the end of the day, an older traveler who is expecting a hotel with the normal perks or somebody traveling with a family, you might want to stay somewhere else.

Yelp
Upon check in you get tokens for a complimentary rum punch. Our check in host was very informative regarding, hotel, bar, taco bar, breakfast, parking, and overall stay. The rum punch-It's pretty good. Their parking garage is about 2 blocks away (easily walkable) and be sure to keep your ticket as the hotel will validate it. Rooms begin on the third floor. Rooms are quaint -think efficiency studio. Toilet and shower are separate. The shower is literally right next to the bed (so if someone is sleeping the light from the shower is glaring /illuminating the sleeping area). Beds are Queen size. I'd say this is a decent place to stay -in regards to location and amenities. The rooms are good for one person. Two is kind of a cozy squeeze- doable but space is limited. It is a dog friendly hotel as well. Bar closes at 12 and taco bar closes at 11. They have board games available to play as well. A nice seating area away from the bar. The external noises from outside (cars going by, motorcycles, delivery trucks, etc) is LOUD. The AC inside the room when turned on makes a LOUD humming noise. It is difficult to get a good nights rest here. It's no wonder they offer complimentary drinks upon check in -you'll need to be passed out in order to get some sort of sleep. I wouldn't stay here again.

Yelp
Brandon? Ever heard of him? Amazing. He's beyond a human being, he's a sentient. A gift from the gods, amazing. Thank you. I was on the verge of death, and he was the fountain of youth. I've never felt so alive until Brandon tended for me.
