"Moxy NYC Downtown Why we love it: A playful stay that brings fun and affordability to FiDi The Highlights: - Smartly designed rooms with whimsical details - A hip hangout with arcade games and small plates - A 24/7 gym with a boxing bag and a surfboard balance station The Review: Adding to the nearly 40 Moxy properties worldwide, the Moxy NYC Downtown opened in 2018 in the Financial District, within walking distance of Wall Street, the 9/11 Memorial, and the Brooklyn Bridge. Here, the 298 rooms feature smart, space-saving layouts by design firm Stonehill Taylor, complete with clothes hooks, hanging chairs, fold-down desks, and bespoke leather beds with luggage storage. Other playful details include custom-designed denim bathrobes, eye-catching murals, neon room numbers, and vintage phones on the nightstands that guests can use to dial up bedtime stories. The hotel’s fun factor is only heightened at Recreation, a 5,000-square-foot restaurant-meets-coworking-space from restaurateur Jon Neidich. Designed to feel like a retro house party, the hangout pairs Skee-Ball and arcade classics with artisanal cocktails and small plates by chef Akhtar Nawab. When you need to get moving, hit the state-of-the-art-fitness center or play a game of pickup on the basketball court, which doubles as an event space for some of New York’s coolest parties."

Moxy NYC Downtown

"The commotion of FiDi sure is a lot, but crowd-drawing attractions like the 9/11 Museum, One World Observatory, and proximity to the Statue of Liberty also make it a great place to stay—as long as you’re at the right place. Moxy is the place. The hotel matches downtown’s modernity and fast pace with neon LED lights in the lobby, a 5,0000-square-foot coworking-space-by-day and bar-by-night with arcade games, surround-sound systems in rooms, and a 24/7 fitness center. This is where you stay to work and play—which will make you feel right at home in this newly buzzing neighborhood."

Google
I had a fantastic experience at this hotel and can genuinely only say positive things. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful — truly outstanding service all around. There were no waiting times for the elevators, everything ran smoothly, and the atmosphere throughout the hotel was vibrant yet relaxed. I’ve read some negative reviews, but honestly, I can’t relate at all. My room was spotless and cleaned perfectly every single day. Everything just felt well thought-out and professionally managed. The overall vibe, the cleanliness, the location — it all came together for a great stay. If I travel to New York again, Moxy Downtown would be my first choice without a doubt!

Google
Staff were very friendly and helpful with anything we needed. The room was comfortable and they kindly upgraded us to a city view which we appreciated. Housekeeping came every day and the room was very clean. Excellent location close to downtown sites and metro stations. Breakfast was good and it was nice to have table service rather than a buffet breakfast. Would definitely stay again!

Google
View is amazing from the upper levels. The bar area on the 3rd floor is really nice, we had some great cocktails there and the bartender was really lovely. There were quite a few charges upon arrival though, there are also loads of things included in your stay that you don’t get told about so make sure you do your own research! Hotel is a little hard to find as it’s set a little further back on the sidewalk than the rest of the buildings. Room was small but can’t expect much more for NYC. Good location though.

Semra Kay

Google
Pros: The staff is friendly and kind, and the rooms are very clean. The location is convenient, just a short walk to the subway and the price is great for the area. What could be improved: The lobby sitting area can get quite rowdy. During my stay, a group of men were loudly playing the hotel’s games, yelling and making disruptive noises for hours while others were trying to eat lunch or work on laptops. If management could implement a policy to ensure all guests can enjoy the shared spaces without excessive disturbance, it would make a big difference. That said, the rooms themselves are quiet and well-suited for working, especially if you’re traveling for business.

Google
I cannot recommend this hotel for a few reasons. 1. As a single female traveler I felt incredibly unsafe. After checking in around midnight, I had an engineer knock to try and repair my AC at 1:30am. I hadn’t called down for any repairs. I couldn’t sleep well since I did not feel safe, they weren’t even wearing any type of official uniform. Upon my last day, I had two other random men knock on my door. One immediately walked away when I answered and the other tried to open the room even though I had asked and confirmed a 2:30pm checkout. 2. The rooms are incredibly small and the AC didn’t seem to be working despite setting the temperature quite low. 3. My room never had the trash cleaned out. 4. The responses from the front desk staff were definitely genAI replies when I reached out about the safety concerns.

Google
Good value for a NYC hotel. View isn’t bad and the rooms are very modern and comfortable. The lobby can be a little on the loud side, but that’s the Moxy vibe. Even though there’s a fee for checking into a NYC hotel, Moxy gives you a lot for it and the benefits are well explained on check in. Finally, I have to mention that Ana checked my wife and I in and was a fantastic help. I can recommend this location even more so due to her hospitality. Pros: Excellent staff, good location, extremely close to the subway, modern, very clean. Cons: Very small rooms, difficult access situation (have to take two elevators up to get to the rooms, and they’re a bit slow), lack of amenities in the room (no mini fridge, coffee maker, etc).

Google
Let this middling review speak nothing bad about the staff who were all wonderful and inviting. Zero issues in that department. The main issues are really the teeny room, the awful beds, and lack of any decent amenity like a mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot, anything. For that price, you'd expect at least that. They say you can request a cooler and junk, but there wouldn't be anywhere to put the dang thing in the microscopic room. The mattress is very thin and cheap, and it rests on a wooden frame that just allows it to slide all over. Having to go up two sets of elevators, of which at least one was broken everyday was annoying, but hardly a big complaint. The bar you pass to your room was actually quite nice, but sort of awkward to pass through if you're just in your jammies trying to get downstairs to get your food delivery. Housekeeping is only once a week, but we always decline it anyway, so no bother to us, but certainly seems odd. Again though, all the staff we interacted with were awesome, and none of my complaints are their fault. Really, I could forgive the small size or crappy bed, but not both. Great location, though!

Google
Shout out to Grace and Henna at the front desk. They were both super friendly and accommodating. They made my first stay at a Moxy super memorable! Prime location & great eats around. Room was super clean and aesthetically pleasing. Definitely will be back!

Yelp
Customer service was decent ( best in the bar area / family area ) and interesting decor in the room . Overall I enjoyed my stay but I feel like the room should cost more around $175 a night ( instead of the $266 I paid which was discounted ) with all of the fees included ...but hey NYC is expensive. Comparing this hotel to Public ...another 3-4 ish style hotel with a similar price point ( paid about $250 a night which included a $25 per day credit ) I'd say customer service was better overall at Public and Public is more so for the young adults , or couples that want to get away or people that need a decent hotel to get work done while being out of town . Moxy is way more family friendly...and that's practically ..mostly what you see...meaning the bar area can get a little loud or chaotic in the late afternoon...post happy hour when guest check in with their kids so be forewarned. Loved the indoor basketball court and that the hotel was close to a lot of essential subway lines ( 2,3, ACE) and even pier 11 (nyc waterways ferry ) so you could be pretty much most nyc hotspots ( Bryant park , Grand central , Penn station , Times Square , Chelsea , SoHo , Dumbo etc ), within 20 minutes or less . Overall a wholesome stay .

Yelp
the rooms are clean and commfortable BUT the public areas are dirty. downstairs is a beat up party scene at night and a grubbydining area for daytime. the chair was so stained with food i wouldn't sit in it! the so-called latte was so weak and stale i immediately started searching for "best coffee near me". the devil is in the details. at least the staff is great

Yelp
Stayed here for work recently and enjoyed it quite a bit. It was for 2 nights only but a very good stay. Front desk staff was cool and very helpful. My stay included a free drink at the 3rd floor bar for both days and a $25 a day spend stipend...very cool! Decent food at the Moxy bar on 3rd floor and if you've been to any other Moxy Hotels you know its a fun, vibrant scene as the night goes on. They upgraded me to the top floor which came me a partial view of the Manhattan & Brooklyn bridge from my room, but in the hallway, the view was better. The higher the floor, the longer the commute down with everyone coming and going at the same time especially during the morning get to work rush lol. Good place to stay if you're in town for work and especially if you work in the Financial District as my commute to the office was a 10 minute walk. Rooms ca be pretty small but hey its NYC, what would you expect. Was still cozy and my bed was comfortable.

Yelp
Came in for a weekend getaway . I was greeted upon arrival but Charles at the front desk. He was very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. I was given tokens to be used at the bar. Love love the views and accessibility of the hotel. I was able to navigate the hotel easily and love the fact that you need a room key to access the elevator to the rooms. Nice cozy lounge for relaxing and they even have games for you to enjoy. I definitely plan on staying here again in the near future. Thanks to the staff

Yelp
There is black mold in the shower!! I am so allergic to mold and was miserable! You also have to take 2 elevators every time to get to the rooms. Lastly, I made a mistake with my checkout date and the manager was not accommodating even though the hotel was booked. The only positive thing was that that the bed and pillows were comfortable.

Yelp
I like the Moxy brand. Their hotels are hip and cool, and the rooms are generally on the affordable side. My favorite part is checking in at the bar and getting a welcome cocktail. However, at this particular location, the front desk and bar are separate because the bar is run by a 3rd party. First, check in at the front desk on the first floor and get your drink token to be redeemed at the bar. Then, take the elevator up to the bar and lobby. Finally, take another elevator up to your room. I stayed at Moxy NYC Downtown for 4 nights in two different rooms. For anyone new to the Moxy brand, their rooms are minimalist and space efficient. My first two nights were in a standard room, and my last two nights were a city view room that I had used my Suite Night Awards (SNA) for. The SNA was a waste. I knew that I was getting the same exact room but with a better view, but I was expecting an unobstructed view of the city and not a partial view. I got a better view in the hallway than in my room. Recreation, the bar, is a cool space with retro vibes and is the hotel's only dining option. It is quiet during the daytime and busy on weekend nights. The hotel puts on different events throughout the week, such as movie night, and it seems that the 3rd party that manages the bar also handles those events. I showed up to a movie night, but there was no one there and nothing set up. I asked the front desk, but they were unaware and directed me to go ask the bar. At that point, I lost interest, so I decided to go do other things instead. Moxy NYC Downtown has a great location as it is in the Financial District with plenty of things within walking distance. The staff is okay though. The front desk is not the friendliest, but they get the job done. The bar staff is nicer, but service can be pretty slow. There is a daily $25 destination fee, but the $25 F&B credit at Recreation makes up for it. I really like Moxy, but this is an okay Moxy. Having the front desk on a separate floor kind of ruins the Moxy vibe.

Yelp
I recently stayed at this hotel for one night and my stay was perfect. You get a $25 travel fee that you can put towards food/drinks at the restaurant and my meal was pretty good! Definitely more of a lively, party scene hotel but located off of broadway street and only a 20 minute walk to Soho.

Yelp
Customer service was atrocious. From checking into the room, asking the front desk about their laundry service, the bartenders on the 3rd floor... it could not have been any worse. Still can't get over how we talked to a hand full of employees and didn't have a good experience with any. Multiple things in our room were broken. 0/5 stars do not recommend way overpriced for what you are getting.

Yelp
I had a great stay at the Moxy NYC Downtown. It was great for many reasons, but the awesome staff at the hotel was a top reason. They were so accommodating and just showed us really great service at every interaction. I love the unique and cool style of the hotel interior. They have a great bar!

Yelp
First time staying at a moxy and didn't realize how minimalist the hotel would be. I had a late flight in so didn't get to the hotel until 1 am. I checked in and found out the elevator was down for the first 3 floors. Not fun carrying luggage up 3 flights. They gave me a token for a free drink and free "breakfast" but didn't care too much as I just needed sleep. Upon getting to my room I realized there wasn't a closet, no ironing board or iron. You have to call for an iron I think. This did not work for me, and the "desk" was too small for me to work on in the morning. I am glad I only had 2 nights here.

Yelp
I had so much fun coming here to meet my homegirl for drinks and some vibes. The vibes is definitely on point with this hotel. The place is pretty bug and very spacious so try not to get lost at all. LOL JOKES!!!! Front Desk is right there so you can ask which floor to the bar. So as you exit the elevator the place is full lots lights and everything is just welcoming from the ambience it brings. It was a Friday evening round 8pm and it was not that crowded which was good because we got time to look and grab seats. The menu is pretty short on the food side but it was pretty good because the pepperoni and banana peppers flatbread BABY was everything i was stuffing the piece in my mouth LOL! the Margarita flatbread was OK! The drinks made by Christian was pretty good. They also had a snack bar o grab quick bites that you pay at the bar, also included soft drinks, water, chips, candy, and other things, even FREE water bar. The basketball court was even more fun than I thought. I probably played for about 45 mins and realize you in leather pants girl what you doing. As the ladies and I had fun we were really enjoying ourselves forreal.

Yelp
Amazing stay ! You have to check out the bar our bartender Ty was amazing. Made incredible drinks I highly recommend

Yelp
Horrible hotel. Confirmed reservation was cancelled without a phone call or enough notice. Left me scrambling to find accommodations at the last minute which in NYC is basically impossible. Don't stay here.

Yelp
Photos online for check in was very misleading. As you're reading online about the hotel it tells you about not having a normal check in desk and you check in at the chic bar and upon check in, you get a cocktail, which I was very excited about. We walked into the hotel and were very confused. You walk into a very small lobby area with a check in desk. We arrived pretty early then check in time. The front desk person checked us in and advised we were early and a room wouldn't be ready until maybe 230ish and we would get a notification. The bellmen were very nice and helpful, they stored our bags and gave us tokens for the bar for a drink. We decided to site see and come back later when room was ready, we never received notification room was ready. We got back to the hotel around 6 after the day in the city. We checked in, and this time the other bellman got us check in champagne! Pretty awesome they have check in champagne. We finally went into our room and the room was cute! Definitely chic! Small but it was perfect. If you're traveling with more than two people or family, these rooms are definitely not recommended. We went to the bar to redeem our tokens and grab dinner. There was only one bartender attending the bar and working the floor, service here was not great! We waited quite some time to get help. After we finished our drinks and salad and were ready for the check, that took another 30 mins to get anyone's attention. The bar/food service area was not great service. The host at the bar that does hotel check in was awesome! I would definitely recommend the hotel as the rooms were great and clean and the front desk employees and bellmen's were ecstatic! As for the bar service, definitely needs work!

Yelp
Marriott has gotten into the minimalist hotel business. There is no traditional lobby. Check-in happened in front of one desk, decorated with bold geometric designs and positioned below several recessed ceiling lights. I swiped my key card over the contactless sensor in the elevator to get off at my floor. The security is "techs-ellent". I stayed in the City Queen, which has wall hooks instead of a closet; and a modern platform bed with pull-out drawers beneath the mattress. There is no desk, chair or carpet, but there is a foldable table and a hammock on a vinyl floor. I would NOT RECOMMEND this hotel FOR a BUSINESS TRAVELER like myself who may want to work in his/her room, and I could hardly iron my suit on the tabletop ironing board that I retrieved from underneath my bed. There was no communal ironing room that Moxy-hotels-Marriott dot com boasts about on their website. The City Queen is large enough for only a pre-teen, not someone 13 plus. I felt like I was staying in a chic youth hostel, which gifts guests with a robe hung right outside a glass shower door. Luckily, I was upgraded to the General Queen after complaining about the rotary phone, which had no dial tone when I picked it up to call the front desk. I had to use my cell phone. The General Queen is larger and has everything the City Queen does but the hammock. The rotary phone worked in this one, but the "bedtime stories button" was not able to utter one story. Matt, the affable evening manager, explained that that feature is non functional throughout the entire hotel at this time (March 2022). Tech savvy Millennials will feel at home here. It was fun toggling among the five buttons on the fascinating smart light switch/dimmer/ shade opener combo. I chose between Lit" "Relax" "ZZZ" Shade Open" or "Shade Close. Each room has a 42" Smart TV, which streams Netflix, AmazonPrime Video, Showtime, YouTube, Pandora and Bluetooth. All I had to do was point my cell phone camera at the screen and then sign in to the app or website of my choice. There is no refrigerator, microwave or coffee maker. The restaurant is also closed for renovations, so I had to eat out. The only positive thing is that you can eat your take out at one of the many tables in the lobby. Free snacks are put on the bar from 3pm to 10 pm. The popcorn and chips are no big deal! The best deal is the fitness center on the 3rd floor. Matt bragged that this Moxy is the only one in the brand that has a basketball court. Understandably, there is no on-site parking because plenty of parking garages are around. I garaged my SUV a few blocks away. You do not need a vehicle here in Lower Manhattan anyway. Public transportation is everywhere. For example, the Fulton St. subway stop is around the block. Ground Zero, South Street Seaport, Wall Street and The Brooklyn Bridge are all within walking distance. The hotel is a peaceful oasis in the hustle and bustle of Downtown Manhattan. Moxy is chic, hip, clean and vibrant. Marriott has certainly gotten the minimalist hotel business right! However, the Moxy targets leisurely Millennial travelers. BUSINESS TRAVELERS or Gen X/Boomers/Post War travelers SHOULD OPT IN FOR A TRADITIONAL MARRIOTT.

Yelp
Recreation at the Moxy NYC Downtown hotel location was the perfect way to wind down after a full workweek. It was spacious and felt warm with the lighting and nice decor, including comfortable seating (couches perfect for small groups). Imagine walking into an open floor living room with wooden accents and pops of color. Surprisingly, it was not crowded on a Friday evening when you consider its convenient location just a few feet away from the Fulton Street mega subway station. It is a guaranteed good time when you combine a live DJ, light bites, drinks, games, and good company. Where else can you play arcade and board games, Foosball, followed by a quick one-on-one on the basketball court? I think we have just found our new after-hours spot that our colleagues will love.

Yelp
I love the Moxy hotels and i had an especially good experience at the NYC Downtown location, located in the Financial District. I am a silver elite Marriott member, so I requested early check in and late checkout and got both! This made my weekend plans a lot easier. Upon checkin they also gave me a glass of champagne which was a great way to start the weekend off while getting ready. I booked the stay with free night certificates that I had. The Moxy rooms are always a bit small but that's kind of the point, so just be aware of that but i find it nice because it gets you out of the hotel room and into the lounge, know as the Recreation Bar which is super fun. It has a bar, games, and even a basketball court. You also get a $25 bar credit each night. I have no complaints about this location, the service was great and the room and entire property were fabulous!

Yelp
Thank you Malik, Steve, and Samad for making our stay at the Moxy NYC Downtown personable, comfortable, and fun. We will certainly return to the Downtown Moxy and expand our quest for a NYC experience. Until then, Malik, Steve, and Samad, keep living your best lives and we look forward to our next visit.

Yelp
Stayed here mid September for 2 nights. We had made reservations thru airbnb which had cost us $616 without taxes. Person at check in desk could not immediately find our booking, needed assistance from colleague. They asked for credit card confirmation without telling us that they would use it for paying the - many - taxes. On top of that, I found out some days later that another $523 was deducted from my cc by Moxy. I opened a support ticket with Marriott to ask for details on this transaction : 2 weeks later, I'm still waiting for their reaction. I was travelling abroad and needed the credit on my card, so having $523 less was not a fun surprise. The amount finally got reimbursed more than 1 week after our check-out and cost me another $5 on exchange rate. As if this hotel is not expensive enough yet !! The room is very small and there is no space to put you suitcase, other than on the floor in the middle of the corridor. Ideal for tripping over in the middle of the night when going to the bathroom. This was the last time we'll stay at any Marriott hotel. The $ business disturbed my vacation and we spent in total $762 for 2 nights in a miniature hotel room.

Laura O.

Yelp
I'm giving moxys a 4 star . It was a great location . Staff was super friendly and helpful . Cleaning of rooms were hit and miss , I could live with that . Rooms were small but liveable . The rattan chair could be removed to make a bit more space . All in all it was different than the norm and the staff was super. View was amazing

D B.

Yelp
No one on staff knows how to properly communicate . Charges you nightly for a "resort fee" and it doesn't roll over to the next day so beware !! Staff doesn't even know what the resort fee is . I was told a different rate between staff, bar staff and manger . Manger has condescending tone .There are NO resort amenities ! Resort fee forces you to go to tiny bar . TINY ROOMS! NO CLOSET! NO DAILY ROOM SERVICE ! VERY OLD TV! VERY OVER PRICED

Yelp
Nice upbeat hotel in the financial district. Typical NYC room small but adequate. There are numerous things to see and do within walking distance. If you want to have a drink on the 3rd floor be sure to do so before the night crew(bartenders) check in as they are the WORST servers ever, not sure how they stay employed with the number of complaints in the reviews.

Yelp
There has been a lot of changes here to this hotel, we just finished our stay here yesterday and have some things people should know before they read the other comments. 1) This hotel definitely just had a rebrand, because a lot of the bad reviews are from 2 plus years ago, so many things have changed with this spot. 2) The staff has to be very fresh or new, and they are just getting into the rhythm of things. We happened to be VERY fortunate on many accounts while staying here. 3) They also are understaffed, like everywhere else, even if they don't tell you, it's just what it is in this day and age, so bare with everyone as they deal with it. We found the hotel first on Expedia, and then decided to look on the website about it, and booked direct which saved about $50 bucks, which was great. When we arrived, we happened to find a parking spot RIGHT OUTSIDE and it was FREE, which never happens, but this time it did, and that was super clutch. Also, we were early to arrive and they let us check in no problem, no charge, and even UPGRADED THE ROOM. 0 charge. Amazing. Also, the bar is closed, very sad, they don't have a liquor license yet, and we didn't see a restaurant anywhere, and the continental breakfast giveaway was weak, coffee was terrible, so just skip on all in house food and bev offerings. The room itself was very nice, comfortable mattresses, beautiful view, nice shower, and great use of space with hooks to hang clothes, chairs, desk, etc. Also this hotel is definitely built for millennials. The Thermostat was kind of tricky, had to fidget with it a bit to get it to work, and the soap was a little dirty from the previous stay, but otherwise we had a great overnight stay.

Yelp
Okay, I've stayed at enough Moxy's and stayed here enough times to say thanks, but no thanks Moxy downtown. Here's why, despite it being very convenient, I'm avoiding it going forward: The lobby smells DISGUSTING half the time I'm here. The line to check in is more often than not more than a 15min wait. I've never once been offered an upgraded room as a titanium member. It's insanely expensive. There's no place to work in the room. I don't mind small rooms but this location doesn't even have the typical folding table and chair - or room for it. The gym is TINY for the size of the hotel. The two slow as sh*t elevators and club (aka the hotel bar) you have to walk through to get to your room are highly inconvenient. Staff is not friendly. All in all, if you can stay at the LES Moxy, it's AMAZING...go there.
google avatar

Mihal F.

Yelp
Not for me. The room is way too small, not much bigger than a queen bed. If you're a business traveler there's no good place to sit, and the wifi is unstable for zoom calls. It has a cute lounge area though, good for a morning coffee, or a happy hour drink or snack if you're into that.

Amy L.

Yelp
I've stayed in decent Moxy hotels in other cities, but this one was much worse. When you enter the front door you're in a small awkward space with one overwhelmed employee. There was a line of people checking in and it took awhile to get our key. The common area on the third floor is fine, although really loud in the evening. Also, the space smelled and the elevators smelled bad in indescribable ways. My biggest complaint is that they added a mysterious $25/ night 'Destination' charge and said it could be used for food and drinks. But when we got our final receipt, the food/drink charges were added on, and the extra $25/ night was still a separate charge. It felt like a scam. I would never stay here again.

Yelp
Im originally from NYC, I love weird off beat places there especially hotels. I booked a room for just a night here, and some reviews I read prior were Not Great. Lemme tell you I forgot about all of them, as I had such a nice time here omg. The rooms are Small, it definitely seems like an old renovated and modernized old old NYC hotel and those old ones have small rooms. It's suuuper funky boutiquey inside, there are checkin desks you can use yourself or staff are at the podiums across the main entrance room. I booked a queen size bed room, and got there way before check in. They told me a room wasn't ready yet, and told me in the second floor lounge was open and there was free coffee. I reorganized my belongings, and was luckily able to check in an hour later (at like 930am too!) as a room opened up. When they said it was near the elevator they were not kidding, it was right across from it but even still we barely heard noise NYC has a new Destination Fee like how Vegas has resorts fees, and it's $30. So they give you $30 credit to make up for it which you can use at the bar for food or drinks, get 10 polaroids a day that you take and keep with a camera they loan out, can be used at the coffee shop bakery attached to the hotel on the street level, or a few other options. The shower was fairly big, and the rainfall showerhead was a dream. The rooms are funky, have mostly blackout shades (light still got in), and I wish there was a low light option for nighttime. They had free Fiji water bottles, soap dispensers mounted in the shower, recycling bin, and I loved the design of it. Yes the rooms are super small, but if you don't need much then you'll be fine. I will say there isn't much bathroom privacy as the doors are frosted glass accordion style ish, and the shower is RIGHT THERE. AND the door doesn't fully shut, there's a crack between the 2 pieces. So if your traveling with someone be warned haha, and sound carries. There was handy storage underneath the bed, a ROTARY PHONE, hooks all over, minimal art, a steamer that can be used like an iron which I'm sure many don't realize, the window ledge can be used too for storage in theory, and the AC was stupidly strong if needed. You CAN hear the rooftop bar at night, but a sound machine app on my phone mixed with the AC bosis drowned it out pretty well. Definitely have earplugs or headphones etc. Everyone was SO NICE, the signature drink I got at the bar was incredible and the avocado toast i got downstairs was top 3 I've ever had. The rooftop bar was meh and not my scene but the view was pretty, we didn't even stay 20 minutes. I did like the hallway of elephant light fixtures, but did not like having to leave the building to go back in to get up there through a different door where we then saw the hallway we walked out of to go outside then back in. I will definitely stay here again if I need a hotel in midtown. It's right in tourist/commuter central, but in my case it helped as someone staying with me came from out of town and meeting them at Penn was super easy...and a major bonus is my favorite bagel place is a block away. I'll definitely be back, I loved nearly everything about it.

Yelp
I have a lot of thoughts about Moxy, and unfortunately, most of it isn't great. But first, the good. Location is fantastic. You can't beat the close proximity to everything, including the Brooklyn Bridge. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The decor and overall aesthetic is so refreshing and cool. Loved the automatic blackout shades! And now for everything else: The AC was broken during my entire stay. Staff came to fix it several times, each time telling me to just wait it out a bit, but the temperature in the room never dropped below 79F during a hot NYC summer. Despite several requests for a new room or some sort of alternative, I was forced to cut my stay short after no resolution. The room is incredibly small. Honestly only good for a single person because it would be difficult to maneuver two people in the space. Room had the bare essentials and not much more. Overall, everything could be manageable if not for the AC problem.

Yelp
Definitely a little disappointed, this is listed as a 4-star hotel. Rooms are very tiny just a bed and a lot of hooks on the wall. No black out curtains with the lit up buildings nearby. There was fire alarm testing at 8am. (They did grant us $50 credit for this.) They granted us late checkout but the key was shut off at 11. Gym is definitely not state of the art like it says. (one room, 2 treadmills 2 elliptical 2 peloton and hand weights). One person was handling all breakfast on Monday morning, which led to very long waits. Great location, cool atmosphere, and cool lounge, and welcome champagne, but I definitely had higher expectations.

Yelp
Thank you to Justin and the staff at the Moxy NYC Downtown. They helped make this a special birthday celebration weekend. Thank you for breaking out the decorations and champagne for our arrival.

Yelp
Rooms are small and lacks space for storage but overall it's cool with modern and chic decor. Housekeeping was only done once during my 3 night stay. The check in is in a small lobby, but it was a smooth process and they let me check in early. Once you get up to the third floor you'll walk into Recreation which is a bar with fun games, lounge chairs, and a DJ on some nights. In order for you to access your room you'll take another elevator that requires key access. Location is good in the financial district, as there are plenty of shops + restaurants within walking distance. And you're near the World Trade Center. Subway/trains are around the block. This location is relatively less expensive than the Moxy in Chelsea or Times Square.

Yelp
First disappointment-- We booked a standard double room with double beds but were given a room with a queen bed. We felt downgraded and I have to believe that the double beds room would be bigger than the room we were given. Second huge problem-- The bathroom smelled really bad. At some point we had to shut the sliding bathroom door at all times but the strong stench still came through to the small bedroom area. It smelled of bleach, chlorine, vinegar, or a really faint sour stench that I really believe was someone's throw-up from a previous stay. It was not pleasant. The sink area was also dirty. Third problem-- Might not be relevant for others but we encountered some very rude customers that made us feel unwelcomed and inferior. We understand that this hotel's location (understandable since its close proximity to Wall Street - Financial District) attracts a lot of business men and women to stay here. I visited this hotel for leisure, and it is a Friday, which means me and my boyfriend were walking around with a camera. As we were checking out the gym on our way down from the lobby, a rude customer yelled out to us "NO PHOTOGRAPHS." We calmly responded by saying we were not taking any photos, we did not take any photos, and he was not photographed. He got extremely upset and yelled again "I SAID NO PHOTOS" and we told him again, we are not taking any photos. He got really upset and raised his voice. We were just simply holding a camera, checking out the gym to see if we were interested to use any of the equipment now or later. And we were chased out of the gym by this man. Really made no sense for me, this really affected my stay and made me feel like we were attacked because we were Asian and wearing masks during this time (pandemic). Come to think of it, the co-working space in the lobby of this hotel really does not match up to the vibe of other Moxy hotels. It made us feel like everyone was here for work, when we really wanted to was have fun and relax. MY biggest problem was that the room we got did not look as advertised in the pictures of the booking site--it is much much smaller, with no closet space. The rack of hooks to hang stuff was really in the way of the walking space. After putting up the folding chairs and table, there is no space to even walk or stand. There is no chair like in the pictures and no views like any of the pictures on their social media and website, which made me believe that all the media on their official pages and social media are photoshopped and collaged. The only good thing was that when we requested ice because there isn't an ice machine or anything, it was brought to us in a pretty quick manner, so props to the staff. Some staff were nice, some were ehhh. Lastly, would like to add that I am a Marriott Bonvoy cardholder and am seriously thinking about canceling due to a series of unfortunate stays at Marriott properties. My partner would like to add that their biggest problem was the dirty linens with stains, towels with a big hole, and lack of amenities in the bathroom. We also were placed a plastic water bottle that had been already opened, pretty weird so we did not even get close to drinking it.

Yelp
I've stayed at a fair few Moxy's before, but this one stands out as a personal favorite. Located in the heart of the financial district, you're only a few minutes away from the World Trade Center, Wall Street, and countless shops and restaurants in lower Manhattan. The hotel's lobby is a small check-in area. After you're set, you'll head upstairs to the third floor (gym on the second floor) through an elevator and find yourself in a fun, expansive cocktail bar known as "Recreation". This place gets lively in the evenings and is a great spot to unwind, meet new people, and have some fun. Plus, there's arcade machines, skeeball, shuffleboarding, foosball, and even a basketball court on the opposite side. You'll be hard-pressed to find so much in so little of a space. Once ready, you'll head up a second bank of elevators on the eastern side of the bar. The rooms themselves were bigger than I expected, though I think that's because I was given an accessible room. Lots of space to relax and work in. The staff were very friendly and helped me with all of my requests in a timely manner. Overall, great and fun location to stay in. Lots to do in and around the hotel, never a dull moment, always a good time at the Moxy.

Yelp
1 year later and my oh my have things changed! I came by around 7am-730 on the 24th to drop off my bags for my stay later that day. I was greeted by aleece at the front desk and i had told her how i just came from moxy lower east side and all the drama there i also had her confirm that my food and bev credits that were suppose to be applied while at LES were not and were instead actually charged to me she said that may be in part to me not having used the $30 in one shot which i told her was not explained to me by les overnight manager marilyn. I was then told i could check in now and got the room keys. I get to the room and do my usual inspection and find a stain on the mattress i call fd and aleece says she send someone up to grab me my bags and switch the room / jose comes up takes me to my room ( i carried my bags) and says lets check it out together, i find a dirty pillow and a hair on the toilet seat which he asks if he can clean, which i said sure and says he'll have a new pillow for me , 10 mins later an attendant comes with a pillow. Then i go down to the bar because last time i stayed i knew they had free breakfast i come to find out the breakfast is not free anymore which fine but as a marriott gold elite member who has literally stayed in the last two years and this one almost 100% exclusively at moxys and supported the brand through the pandemic that wouldve been nice to know instead i was looked at like i was crazy by the bar manager. Im just really disappointed in the customer service i received this week by moxy i ended cancelling my next night and going to pod brooklyn because it was cheaper and only to be met with hairs and stains in my bed! I called marriott 1-800 today only to be met with a sorry and some points and a note that will be forwarded to both properties. What happened to customer service?!

Yelp

Yelp
DO NOT stay at this hotel. I had the worst experience I have ever had. First they cancelled my reservation without calling me because the credit card I had used to secure the room SEVERAL months prior had expired. I arrived in NYC after a long flight from California and my reservation was GONE. They got me a room at the Moxy Timesquare - a tiny room with two beds facing each other - and charged my surge pricing which wiht taxes and fees was $900 for a piece of shit room not worth more thant $200. They were able to move me back to the Downtown Moxy for the rest of my WEEKLONG stay because I had 9 other colleagues staying there. The rooms have no closets, no coffee, 3 hangers and are just a shitshow. Two of my colleagues had to MOVE rooms because of problems, one of which include a flood of water coming from somewhere in the bathroom. It's hard to have a meal in the restaurant at night because they have a dj playing very lound music (no one was dancing) and you have to yell to have a conversation. I cannot tell you strongly enough, buyer beware. This place is awful. Never again. Shame on you Marriott.

Yelp
The rooms are compact...but if all you need is a place to sleep and great shower, this is your place! The happy hour on the 3rd floor lobby was really fun...DJ and basketball...no downside. They gave me a cold glass of bubbly when I checked in! It's great for all ages

Yelp
Went to the Bar and Restaurant for a Mothers' Day Brunch. OUTSTANDING! Food was delicious, wait staff was quick, attentive and helpful. DJ, was totally rocking! Good vibes. There is a mural of Vinyl LPs that were cut in amazing shapes, kudos to the artist! All around great time, fantastic atmosphere and the staff is friendly. On my list of places to visit next time I'm in NYC.

Yelp
Sexy small hotel with a quirky fun vibe. Extremely cool bar scene with couches, skeeball, basketball and great drinks. Clean rooms with cool hip decor. Note the rooms are small! However, it was perfect for the two of us and the location was awesome. You really couldn't beat the bar vibe especially with the DJ.

Yelp
Laylen and John were the most helpful people ever!!! Had a few issues getting into our room and Laylen helped us out immediately and quickly resolved the issue. John was a huge help at the front desk, it was pouring and he let us borrow his umbrella. Thank you John and Laylen!!! You both deserve a HUGE RAISE

Yelp
Fun hotel with a great vibe! Friendly customer service and a complimentary glass of champagne at check-in! :). Lots of amenities onsite including a very comfortable lounge/bar. Our room was cute, modern and clean. The room was small but didn't feel like it due to the great use of space. Bed was comfortable. The hotel is on a quiet street in a great area (close to the oculus and other attractions)... didn't hear any street noise and I was on the 5th floor. My only complaint is that they charge you a non-refundable hotel fee at check-in (it's good towards food and drink at their restaurant).. but the kitchen closes much earlier than the bar and we couldn't eat... sadly, I was really looking forward to some snacks with my cocktail. :). Overall.. I recommend :).

Yelp
Currently staying here for 4 nights for work. We were booked by our company through a group contract. Our contact was a woman named Alexis. I was flying in Monday and arriving at 7 A.M so I requested if it was possible to add Sunday so Id have a room to settle in since check in was at 4pm. I clearly stated if it was possible to check if we can get an early check in VS adding the Sunday to save the company costs which implied that I was expecting my company to cover the hotel. Her next email stated that they were not able to provide early check in but there was availability and able to add the Sunday night in which she added on her own without confirming if I would like to add it. Prior to agreeing, I double checked to make sure that would be covered under my company. She followed up stating my company set up the contract for us to incur the charges. After finding that out, I settled everything with my company to make sure they cover the hotel and we got that squared away but can only charge for Mon-Fri. Due to that, I requested Alexis to remove the Sunday and this was a week prior to our arrival which would have given the hotel enough time to remove Sunday. I never received an email back from Alexis for confirmation. Upon arrival at 8am, was greeted by front desk associate Brittney. She let me know that Sunday was still on and that I would owe for that. I let her know the details about my communication with Alexis and she reached out to her manager Melissa. We were waiting in the lobby for over an hour with no update if they will remove Sunday. We go out to eat breakfast while they try to confirm and went back 3 times till basically around 12pm in which they were still saying I would owe for Sunday night due to it being in the contract. They took no consideration of the non communication from their sales manager and when I asked to speak to a manager, they stated I would have to give them my number and wait for Alexis to call due to her being our account manager. At that point it has been over 4 hours of waiting for confirmation of our room, and if I couldn't receive an email back, I didn't trust for a call back in a decent amount of time. I gave in and ultimately paid for a Sunday night that we did not utilize and attempted to have removed prior to arrival.

Yelp
I just traveled from San Diego to NY. I've had a terrible day. Everything that could go wrong today, has gone wrong. Then I came to check into the hotel and the young ladies working the front desk were so nice! It seriously made my day brighter. Great official start to my NY adventure.

Yelp

Yelp
10/10 experience here. My friends and I traveled from across the states and accidentally stumbled upon the greatest place. Not only were we greeted with complimentary champagne but the whole staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. I would like to highlight my experience with Malik especially. He went ABOVE AND BEYOND !! our experience was so much better because of him. (he DESERVES a raise). they have this awesome bar and arcade at the hotel that's a must stop by. ask for the dirty martini, it was the best i've ever had.

Yelp
This was my first time staying in a Moxy hotel. I was pleasantly surprised. This location is in the financial district. It's not in walking distance from Times Square. I was alone, so I used Uber's/Lyfts and taxis. I spent between $25-$40 per trip to get to/from the airport and Times Square. The hotel itself was nice and clean. When I arrived, I checked myself in, made my key and was given directions to my room from the front desk staff. You have to take the elevator to the main floor which houses the bar and a few games. The second set elevators to take you to your room. I was on the 15th floor. My room was nice and quaint. I was amazed at how the room was decorated. The furniture was multi-purposes. They definitely utilized the space in the most efficient way possible. The room also had some cool art pieces. The room was $299 per night which is on par with the other hotels in the city. The location is beautiful. It's close to Wall Street and had some amazing shopping. I got to enjoy the nearby park, walk and do some window shopping that Sunday. I would recommend this hotel for weekend getaways. Especially if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Times Square.

Yelp
I don't usually feel inclined to write reviews but from the second we got here, the staff was insanely nice, especially to my 3 year old little boy. They've gone above and beyond to accommodate all of our needs, and the ambience is amazing! The rooms are modern, clean & well designed. 10/10 would stay here every time I come to NY which says a lot, because I generally dislike most of the hotels that are raved about here.

Yelp
I live far from the city so I decided to book this hotel with my family for a day in the city I have a 10 year old and she loved this hotel. It's family friendly and it also has a bar in the third-floor for parents. My husband and I had a few drinks while we played games in the game room which happens to be in the same floor as the bar there's many restaurants and a bunch of stores nearby so it was very convenient to stay here. The staff was very pleasant and very helpful. I will definitely come back and stay in this hotel again.
