Mr Bảy Miền Tây - Bánh Xèo

It’s nice to have a break on the Pho and other noodle-based street-food dishes. Their Banh xeo is worth the try and the queue! The taste of it alone is nothing exceptional BUT once you do the proper way of eating it (won’t spoil the fun for you!) it’s honestly amazing 🤩 We also tried the grilled fermented pork (min order of 3pcs), also great!

I was lucky I came and there is table available immediately. I was surprise the waiter and waitress speaks exceptional English (but it is also a sign) It has a large menu but my main goal is Banh Xeo, or the egg pancake thingy. I order the pork on a 135k VND (2025) and also Hanoi beer 25k VvND, so total 160k VND (surprise later) The second sign is the place is filled with foreigner customers, I must say I didn’t check the reviews enough as I only mark it upon seeing Banh Xeo menu. The food came after 20mins, a large plate made out of a huge pancake, a basket of vege and fresh herbs, a packet of rice paper, and a bowl of fish sauce. I am surprised at the generous portion and I thought I couldn’t finish the food myself, (I was kidding hehe) the staff verbally taught me how to wrap the food and so the game began. it was fun! To assemble my own food, and the soul is the fish sauce, let me tell you, it is super yummy with it and I really love it. I enjoyed very much the whole thing, and maybe finishing everything on my table in 15mins. As I was enjoying my beer the staff came to collect my dishes away. So out of polite I also finishing up my beer and went down to pay. Only that I know there was a long queue outside waiting to be seated. I paid 166k VND, I did not know it has extra charge over tax or service I wouldn’t know as I didn’t get the receipt, but that was the price I was asked to be paid. I came out the restaurant feeling happy, that I had my Banh Xeo finally, and looking at the line formed by foreigners on the street, I thought maybe this is where they go. (Of course I am a foreigner myself) If you asked me, I would say this is a safe bet, you get good service, and clean place and good food, so naturally they would charge more, per say comparing with other street food around the area. I only deduct 1 star because I feel I could get similar quality of food around here with more competitive pricing. (And it proved me right the next day on my food hunt) Nonetheless, this is a great place to eat!

Had high expectations for this one but it was a bit of a miss. The pancakes were for 135k if I remember it right. They make it right after you order which makes the wait time to be seated take longer. It was good for 2pax. It was delicious but oily so that gets to you after a few wraps. As for the banh khot (which was for 95k), we only ate the pork and shrimp topping since they pancake itself was too thick for us. We also had to reorder this one since they didn't list this one when we initially ordered.

We came early for lunch (11.30) and got a table right away. We ordered pork stick for appetiser, pork and shrimp pancake and the beef with rice noodles. The waitress was very helpful in explaining how to eat the dishes. All the food was absolutely delicious, I especially loved the banh xeo, the crispy pancake combined with fresh leaves and tasty filling was simple but the taste and textures were heavenly when eaten all together. I was excited to eat here and wasn't disappointed. This is a must try if you are in Hanoi.

We reached there around 7:30pm to avoid the long queue but still, there was a 10min wait! But we could see how they make the crepe. We ordered a crepe with pork and shrimp, and only 1 for the two of us as it is a big portion and we just had the pork steamed rolls right before. It was served quite fast. The food was delicious and worth the effort!!

Loved it so much my husband and I came back to eat three times. With no end of options in Hanoi it says a lot that we returned as often as we did during our relatively short stay in the city. The staff is warm, friendly and welcoming, and remembered us and our orders. If you don't know how to eat banh xeo they have instructions at each table and the server will also ask if you need directions. The food itself was consistently delicious. I stuck to the seafood banh xeo but my husband tried a few different noodle items and loved them all. You can probably find cheaper places to have a meal (our average bill ranged from 450k - 500k with two drinks, two mains and one "starter" to share between us) but why should you when good food and good people are a guarantee here? I really cannot recommend them enough.

Not even kidding, the best meal I've ever had in my life, and that's saying a lot for me!!!! I loved how we could watch them make the banh xeo while waiting. I got the veggie banh xeo and loved every bite - everything was super fresh and perfectly balanced. My taste buds were so happy! Would definitely recommend stopping by if you can!

Suggested by a local, so we decided to try it — and it didn’t disappoint! The pancake was surprisingly good. Best enjoyed wrapped in the rice roll and dipped in the sauce. The seafood soup had a nice, balanced flavor. Overall, everything was really good! Cash only.
