Mr. B's Caribbean Grill

I stopped by Mr. B’s Caribbean Grill on a Friday right when they opened, and I was really impressed. Cornell was running things by himself since his cashier hadn’t shown up yet, and even with a lunch rush hitting, he stayed positive and made sure everyone got great service. I got the jerk chicken meal and the cornbread, and both were amazing. The jerk chicken was some of the best I’ve had in a long time, full of flavor and cooked perfectly. I hesitated when I saw the cornbread was $8, but I’m glad I tried it. You can see real corn in it, and it was the perfect mix of sweet and soft. I meant to take pictures, but the food didn’t last long enough, it was that good. Cornell mentioned business has been a little tough lately with the government shutdown since they’re right by the Jefferson Park train stop, but this spot really deserves the support. I heard other people talking about how great the jerk fish, mac & cheese, and curry goat were too. Everything looked and smelled amazing. I’ll definitely be back!

Caribbean cuisine, and family owned and operated?! It was my first time trying Mr. B’s and it definitely won’t be my last! Not only was he a pleasure to speak with, but his food was an equal pleasure to enjoy. I ordered the jerk chicken, which was served with rice and peas, as well as plantains. Don’t make the mistake I made and not order the cornbread. Everything was cooked to perfection, the meat practically falling off the bones. You can tell Mr. B puts a lot of time, love, and passion into preparing his family’s traditional cuisine. He makes everything from scratch and in house, from the sauce to the cornbread. That said, I will be back to try those oxtails…and the cornbread I should’ve ordered the first time! Thank you again Mr. B! It’s establishments like yours that make Chicago the greatest food scene on earth. Go and enjoy y’all!

My husband is Jamaican and from New York, where there was never a shortage of incredible Jamaican food. We’ve been on the hunt for a good spot in Chicago for a while, and finally found the one! The rice and peas is the best we’ve had, the jerk chicken is just like how it was when we had it in Jamaica, and the oxtail and goat curry has a dimension and depth of flavor that was missing from every other Caribbean place we’ve had! The festival and beef patty were also standout. Now we no longer have to resort to cooking if we want good Jamaican food, we can reliably get great meals here.

This place rules! The food was so tasty my goodness! We tried the curry goat, the oxtail and jerk chicken, the greens, some beef patties, and corn festival. Everything was super tasty and full of flavor. The greens were nice and seasoned, the jerk chicken was tender and delicious. The beef patty was very flaky and had excellent flavor. The curry goat was the favorite of the night, but everything was great. The service was super friendly too! Can't wait to come back and try more!

The food was incredible. We kept talking about it the rest of the day and definitely will return. Oxtails, plantains, jerk wings, mac n cheese, all delicious. The owner was also friendly and very nice. We are so happy to have this place in Jefferson Park!l. Everyone check out Mr. B’s!

Went here for the first time and was blown away by the quality and taste of the food here. Very tender and flavorful. Got the jerk chicken plate, will definitely come back or order doordash in the future.

I was totally surprised by the quality of the food. Don't wait a whole year like I did. I am a value oriented shopper, so I was initially pretty surprised about the cost. However, I was quickly put at ease with the quantity and quality of the food. I had the oxtail dinner and the chicken dinner along with a few appetizers. Mr. B's is definitely going to be in the rotation for takeout moving forward.

This restaurant has been in Jefferson Park, and I finally stopped in today. It serves food with a Jaimacan flare. I asked the waitress what she'd recommend, and she said the Beef Oxtail. I thought it was a bit pricey until I ate it. It came with rice and beans, and plantain. The sauce was rich. The meat was tender. The rice and beans were moist. And the plantain was sweet with just a hint of tartness. They serve jerk, curry, and fish dishes, and all kinds of soul food side dishes. And dessert is sweet potato pudding. If you're looking for something new to try, stop here!

The food was really good but the customer service was even better. The owner "Mr. Canute" took his time to talk about the different dishes I wanted to order. When the food came out, it was better than expected. Please visit Mr. B's Caribbean Grill if you want some authentic Jamaican food. You will not be disappointed.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Mr. B!! Just finished a delightful meal. Got the oxtail and jerk combo that comes with plantains and rice and beans. Got the Mac and cheese and cornbread. This meal deserves a breakdown. That Mac and cheese was a little on the dry side but it wasn't bad, it just wasn't the best. That was the only bad thing about the whole evening. The jerk chicken was spicy jerk but not unbearable and incredibly juicy. That oxtail was so delightful, I'm going to need more of that very soon. The rice and beans were delicious and got two heaping scoops and plantains. The service was great and I am sad that this place was empty on a weekday dinner time. They were running on a limited menu but I am coming back for that bbq combo. Mark my words. The restaurant was spacious and clean. Parking could be a little tricky but we parked in the street and paid for parking , the food was so good that I am not even mad about it. The service was impeccable and got to thank the chef for a wonderful meal. He was doing everything from cooking and cleaning. I salute you! The cornbread was perfect and probably the best cornbread I've had in my life, get the cornbread!!!! GET THE CORNBREAD!

I was super excited when this place popped up in my neighborhood, I was sorely disappointed! The food was totally bland, the only thing that was good were the plantains. I have never had any Caribbean food that lacked not only flavor but seasonings as well. Very disappointed and I probably will not revisit. I should have had tacos instead...I had the chicken and oxtails combo. It was fresh that's the only reason I gave one star. The oxtails lacked meat and pitiful to say the least...dry rice and peas. I'm upset . I ordered through Grubhub, if I had been dining in I would've sent everything back and got plantains to go!

Went here a couple months back and still thinking about it. We ordered take out. I love Jamaican food and I wanted to get a feel of what these guys did right and we ordered a nice spread of stuff. Jerk chicken, ox tail, curried goat, plantains, mac n cheese and collars. There wasn't a miss among them. Every single thing slapped. The jerk chicken was rocklh in flavor woth a balanced spice that didnt overwhelm. They gave, what i think was a jerk salsa to accompany everything. Bright acidity with a igual kick if you want to fire stuff up. Curried goat was outstanding amd the oxtail;spectacular! All rich in flavor and fall off the bone. The plantains were ripe and sweet. The collards had a rich stew flavor and the mac was on point. We waited an additional 20 min because they were out of patties and theres no way i wasnt going to try them. Well worth the wait! Im so glad this is in the neighborhood. But it is definitely good enough that i would go out of my way to go get this. Bravo. Seriously; fire!!!

I've had jerk chicken in the past and this place SURPASSED every expectation I've ever had! I ordered the Jerk Chicken with Rice & Beans and plantains to go. You could also eat inside, very clean and able space to accommodate a larger group. It was such an amazing balance of spicy and sweet (plaintains). I was welcomed upon entry and had the host explain the menu. Super simple combos and cool bottled sodas From Jamaica. I'd recommend the owner place the fridge closer to the front of the coubtwr as it is hard to read the labels and types of cool sodas. I will definitely bring my family and friends back. Don't let the parking intimidate you, there is public parking on Lawrence (near the liquor store) and in front if the old CVS (on the street of course). Support our local business and keep this place alive!

I just ordered takeout and the food is incredible! The jerk chicken, collard greens and cornbread are phenomenal. Welcome to the neighborhood!!

Just had pick up from Mr B's. Cat fish, oxtails, jerk wings, rice and beans, greens, plantains and corn bread. Everything is five star and so fresh. Even the jerk sauce tastes homemade. Will be back!

The food was very good. The portions were just right. The service was great as well. It hit the spot! I'll definitely be back. It's so wonderful to have this in my backyard.

I stopped in this past Wednesday, I got the jerk chicken meal, and bbq wings. The food was great, I really enjoyed my meal. The food has real authentic jamaican taste, and yes, it is spicy, but good. I am looking forward to going back next week for the curry chicken.
