"Mr. Dooley’s, open since 1991, is a down-to-earth pub right off Downtown Crossing, and the perfect place to tuck into after a day at work for a relaxing pint. For late night revelry, the live music schedule is jam-packed almost every night of the week." - Tanya Edwards, Terrence Doyle

Mr Dooley's is your quintessential Irish pub. Located in the heart of faneuil Hall district, this is a lovely place to have some good food and a pint. Check out the Reuben sandwich and the big pretzel with cheese sauce!

My son and I came in for a late lunch. We ended up staying, my husband and daughter met up with us. Kelly our waitress was fantastic! The place got progressively busy, but she was never flustered or was less attentive to us. She even warmed up my sampler for my husband! The drinks were great , my son said the beer was good. The sausage and fries appetizer with curry sauce was delicious. I got the sampler and everyone was good. My son got the sheppards pie and he thought it was extremely good. We definitely plan to come back when we're back in town in Sept! *Hi Phyllis if you read this*

Google
An all time favorite place that still stands the test of time! Terry the bartender is one of the best and their live Irish music adds to the classic pub atmosphere.

Google
Quaint little Irish bar restaurant with amazing food. A great selection of Irish favorites I can’t wait to come back and try.

Google
Fantastic full Irish. Great chat from the bartender. Genuine pub without TV’s. If you want to feel like you’re across the ocean, you’ve found your place.

Google
Mr. Dooley’s is far better than any restaurant in the area. The food is reasonably priced, you get to sit inside and have access to their super clean bathrooms. The service was super fast and you get plenty of food. Definitely recommend the clam chowder. I had previously thought about eating at Quincy’s Market because it is known for being cheap but I soon realized that it is packed with people. There is virtually nowhere to sit and all the food is overpriced. Great environment to be in and highly recommend.

Google
Classic Irish pub, looked like I stepped into a Dublin pub. Just returned from Dublin and can say they have the best Guinness in Boston! I've tried many in Boston over the past week upon my return and it's simply the best. Slainté!

Google
The food was fine. Granted, I’m gluten free and options were limited. I got a burger (GF bun option) which was on par with a Red Robin burger. Service was, again, fine. Not bad, but not overly friendly. The vibe is really cool and would be a fun place to grab drinks and hang. Other dishes - clam chowder, fish and chips - received better reviews from our group. In a city like Boston, I’m sure you can find better.

Jack B.

Yelp
Local bar with great Irish food. The locals go to enjoy and hear the music. Even when busy service was good.

Ryan C.

Yelp
Just reviewing the Guinness here: A nice pint of Guinness that looked good and tasted right. Not to mention that the bar lady was very kind and seemed like a load of fun. The Guinness had a good head and good temperature. Definitely tasted good but still lacking something compared to the pints in Ireland. Will be back for another while I'm in Boston for sure!

Linda R.

Yelp
Perhaps the best Guinness in Boston. Not just according to me but according to many, including many visiting Irish gents and ladies. A classic Irish pub with a classic Irish pub menu. I have enjoyed many a pint here and many good meals. Today I had the Shepherds pie. It was flavorful but a bit dry. I did like the Irish brown bread that was served along side. Two at our table had the eggs Benedict and weren't very happy with them...too dry and not much flavor. The atmosphere was good- very friendly service. There weren't many people in the restaurant and the server made the rounds several times but we kept having to flag her down. It was kinda like she was making the rounds to make the rounds not check in on anyone. Slightly odd. Overall a great stop if you are looking for a legit Irish bar in Boston.

Yelp
Cute little pub. Older and quaint, definitely a "Boston" vibe. And we loved it! The waitress was absolutely superb, we loved her! Everything came out correct and hot. So much food we couldn't finish it all, but I wish we could have. This will be one of our favorites and a top recommendation if you're looking for a cutie place in Boston!

Maggie Z.

Yelp
Immaculate vibes, great for a late evening meal, not great for chatting. We were looking for a late dinner in the financial district and I'm so happy that Dooley's was the closest open kitchen. The friendly community bar was filled with folks of all ages and all were there to listen to live music and have a great time. The food was alright and service impeccably quick for how packed the pub was. It's much too loud for conversation, but absolutely worth a relaxed evening concert.

Richard H.

Yelp
What a great pub! I've been to several Irish Pubs in Ireland and the atmosphere is a near parallel, with the American twist of a bar with live music. Our bartender (Gemma) was extremely customer focused and friendly. Full bar available and the drinks were great and served quickly with a smile. Strongly recommend the nachos with chicken! I would definitely go back on my next trip to Boston!

John H.

Yelp
Loved this place. The pictures are from my hotel next door. Mr. Dooley's has great service, healthy pours and awesome food. One corner of the bar is dedicated to two warriors who made the ultimate sacrifice. Thoughtful, elegant. I needed to use my napkin. Worth your time.

Gayle L.

Yelp
We loved the food, the drinks and the vibe! What a fun place! As we ate, we watched the locals coming in after work.... A loud happy crowd!

Melissa L.

Yelp
Cold outside? You will experience the best Irish coffee here. Our bartender Kat was fun and pleasant! We had the best laughs (and Guinness beer) too! Can't wait to visit Boston again!

Tim K.

Yelp
The server, Kelly, was excellent! Friendly, helpful and efficient. BTW, she was working the room alone. Food was good.

Allie S.

Yelp
Great Irish pub in the Financial District. Reminded me of Dublin pubs. I had the fish and chips which were very good. Bartender was very attentive and friendly. Would recommend if in the area.

Darci L.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere and of course my Guinness was delish! We shared the steak tips with fries and it was good, not great. Our waitress was very kind and service was good. Great location if you're looking for an old Irish pub to grab a beer.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Such a great place within walking distance of almost anything in the downtown area. An Irish bar without a TV! The ambiance on a Tuesday night was nice and chill, and the service was thoughtful and prompt. I had bangers and mash with beans (imagine the kind that harken back to your childhood that was available in every grocery store) and brown bread. I also had a PBJ martini with was all alcohol (I definitely had a buzz after that cocktail). Everything was really good, and I did not feel rushed. I would definitely would return.

Jenni F.

Yelp
Staff is great, pour is lovely and the music was amazing!! We got the chowder which was decent.

Ali R.

Yelp
When you're in the financial district there's no better choice for casual meetings... Perfect pints of creamy Guinness, generous service, delish Irish dishes, and loads of craic! Top spot for exceptional atmosphere and traditional Irish hospitality. You're very welcome!

Rob W.

Yelp
This was my favorite experience in Boston! Great live music, and the food was amazing. My wife got the Dublin fish and chips, and I got the Irish Sampler, which consisted of Irish stew, Shepherd's pie, and chicken pie. It was all very good, with the shepherd's pie standing out as the signature dish. Cold draft beer, including Kilkenny Irish Crème Ale on tap, which was delicious. 10/10, would definitely come again!

Scott C.

Yelp
There is no better bar atmosphere than the one at Mr Dooley's. No TVs, no distractions, just pure and live music and lots of drinks. This place was packed and for all the right reasons. This place was filled to the brim with Christmas decorations making it easily the most festive bar I've been to in a long time. We grabbed a seat at a bar and then ordered a few pints of Guinness. There was a live band playing Irish sing a long songs as well as classic holiday songs. The pints were poured generously, which was great because we had to catch up with the regulars at the bar. The food was pretty standard Irish bar food complete with fries, sausages, bread, and soups. Overall an amazing atmosphere!

Marcelo R.

Yelp
Thumbs up for fish and chips and a glass of Guinness. Heard they has live music but did not stay for that. Bangers and mash os ok, shepherds pie is very good.

Jan C.

Yelp
I was looking forward to some great bangers and mash, but this was a disappointing visit. The Dooleys ale was good. The Bangers themselves were on the dry side. The Mashed potatoes were so dry they were crumbly, not creamy. Came with a small amount of gravy. Unfortunately, the gravy was bland. I only finished half my meal, but no one asked if my meal was ok. Service was an issue in that there was one nice waitress running around crazy trying to take care of multiple tables while a manager and the bartender were standing around chatting.

John H.

Yelp
Gem of a classic old school Irish bar (even though they aren't that old!). The servers are genuinely happy to help.

Nicki L.

Yelp
I've come here a few times now for a weekend drink. It's always a fun vibe with the Irish band playing. It can get busy, but is usually manageable. Smooth Guinness is always on tap. There is a big mix of folks here - come one come all!! I haven't tried the food yet, but I certainly recommend Dooley's for a drink!

Meranda C.

Yelp
Great Bostonian ambiance with excellent service, drinks, food, music and service! I would also recommend purchasing yourself a Mr.Dooley's shirt!

Delina T.

Yelp
Like being in Ireland! Food was good, service was great, ambiance could not have been better.

Christie A.

Yelp
We were looking around for a place that wasn't closed or very busy in this busy area of Boston. We came across This joint, which I had originally bookmarked for breakfast. All tables were full and we couldn't go to the bar because we had the little one with us. We were seated as soon as one of the parties left. Their Irish beer selection were impressive (in tap): Kilkenny's, Murphy's, Harp, Smithwick's, Dublín city, and Magners. I ordered Smithwick's and Dublin City's, husband had a classic Guiness and a black and tan. Thinking that this would be our last meal of the day, we over ordered: Irish grill and Irish sampler. While waiting for the food, a man started playing some classic Irish songs. I'm guessing they were classic because a lot of the patrons started singing along. The ambience felt very family friendly, and since the place is small, it felt cozy. We tried to finish as much of the food as we could, but couldn't handle all the volume. The Irish grill alone would've been enough. I'm glad we were able to try a little of everything though, gave us a good taste of this place.

Yelp
Date of visit: 8/26/21 This place was right across from our hotel, so it made for a perfect first meal in Boston and was pretty good, overall. And what better place for an inaugural meal in Boston than an Irish pub? The place wasn't very busy as it was pretty early yet and we were able to pick a nice corner booth with space for all four of us. I went with the clam chowdah, and it was okay, definitely heavy on the potato and light on the clam, but some additional crackers and it got the job done. Someone else ordered a plate of the Irish Curry Fries and they were actually quite tasty; flavorful without being oppressively spicy, and really perked up the fries as they were pretty uninspired when eaten plain. Our server, Kerry, was fair, she took a fair amount of time to get the check settled and then she brought one check after we asked if we could split it with two checks but was otherwise pleasant and attentive, bringing us a large pitcher of ice water.

Yelp
Took my company Sales Team into Mr Dooleys this week for a business luncheon. We were greeted by the Manager Stuart. A fine big strapping lad from the old sod with a bigger smile than muscles. We were seated promptly and quickly introduced to Kelly who took our food and drink orders with a smile and heart felt welcome to Mr Dooleys. We took advantage of the daily specials that we very tasty and happily sent back empty plates. While I would not be considered a lover of beer and spirits, I did notice the locals congregated in the back corner seem to enjoy the black beer, Guinness I believe. Pints of it being poured by a lovely lass bartender who runs a tight ship I'd say. Lola was her name. Seems to be the type of place that you would never feel the need to leave. My type of place if I ever decide to take up drinking in the major leagues. Well done Stuart, Kelly and Lola

Jon S.

Yelp
terrible fake Irish bar with rude staff. wouldn't go back if you paid me. Little bouncer couldn't have been a bigger jerk. Maybe train your staff.

Darcy S.

Yelp
A rating of "awful" would be a compliment. I waited at the bar for 40 minutes to buy a round for my table. The bartender said to me - 4 times - "I'll be with you in a minute". After the 4th time I politely said I was waiting much longer than the people he was serving, and asked if there's a line I should stand in to order a round. He just said "Look, I'm busy, and if you're gonna be rude, there's the door motherf**ker". I found the door.

Diane H.

Yelp
Love Mr. Dooleys! Haven't been here in a few years, and it's still just as good. Delicious Guinness and food is very tasty. We got the Guinness cheese pretzel to share and I got the Guinness fish & chips and we also got the Irish sampler which included a shepherd's pie, cottage pie, and Guinness beef. I thought the shepherd's pie tasted kinda different from what I'm used to, but the cottage pie and beef stew was amazing! The margarita is delicious as well. It's pretty loud as they had a live guitar person (even on a Monday!)

Al L.

Yelp
Classic Irish pub with great Guinness pours Irish coffee and Irish music A couple blocks away from Black Rose and worth the walk

Emma H.

Yelp
Very nice Irish breakfast experience at Mr Dooley's on marathon Tuesday. Warm welcome, quick service and decent food. Prices are very reasonable for the area, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. The black and white pudding and bangers made the breakfast for me, but I'd have liked the bread to have been toasted. Good selection of beers and nice Bloody Mary.

Carolyn A.

Yelp
Still my favorite Irish bar in Boston. Mr Dooleys never disappoints. Always packed with a mixed crowd, and very popular as an after work destination. Irish beers and stout on tap as expected, along with a good selection of whiskeys. The Shepards Pie is the go to, and there's real Irish stew with Irish soda bread. By 7 or 8 most nights, the table in the corner gets moved and a musician or 2 sets up and plays Irish folk songs or something similar. Listen carefully - sometimes they're hilarious, and oft intentionally in unintelligible Irish brogue. The Irish accents are real, and the staff somehow stays friendly despite working like maniacs to keep up with the crowds. If you're ever there when it's slow, check out the collection of historic photos of the Boston Irish community that line the walls.

James S.

Yelp
I got the Irish sampler and a house lager. The beef stew might be the best I've had in my life. The cottage pie was very good. Had to add a bit of salt and pepper - but that is more a taste thing and hard to judge. The Shepard' spice was weird. At first i wasn't sure, but after a few bites I started to really like it. The bread was great.

Btl B.

Yelp
Love this place. Great music. Great wait staff, too. I always get the impossible burger.

Christopher P.

Yelp
Great classic pub! Terry the bartender is iconic and makes you feel at home and a reason to sit at the bar. Whether your a local or visiting, Mr Dooley's friendly and lively atmosphere, combined with above average flavorful pub fare is reason to make it a place to go to over and over!!

Mike M.

Yelp
I believe that Mr. Dooley's is the most authentic Irish bar that I have encountered in the U.S. The restaurant was only a short block from our Hilton hotel room. I was actually seeking a seafood item to take back to my room. As I entered the bar/restaurant, the place was packed with patrons with Irish accent. There were live musicians playing upbeat Irish tunes. The place seemed very familiar, yet kind of foreign at the same time. A lot of locals come to this bar/restaurant. I ordered their fish sandwich with a side of cole slaw. The fish was crispy and really good. The crisp onions and lettuce were both fresh. The slaw was not too creamy. It was just the way I like my slaw. Despite being very busy, my "to go" bag was ready in about 15 minutes. I did not mind waiting in the crowded bar area. Guadalupe took my order. She was very efficient, polite, and friendly while taking my order in the packed and noisy bar area. Thanks to Guadalupe for her excellent customer service. My next visit to Boston will include a stop at Mr. Dooley's.

John R.

Yelp
Lovely live music pub. Very good salmon and fried cod sandwiches! Fun draft beer selection. Great music selection, too!

Kathleen W.

Yelp
Great restaurant with reasonable prices and a wonderful Irish atmosphere. Food menu is very varied. Menu does have some good Irish food. Restaraunt and bar have a lot of character. Waitstaff and bartenders remember customers, making Mr. Dooley's quite welcoming. I highly recommend this restaurant. Almost forgot to add that they have live bands on certain days, some, not all Irish.

Chelsey H.

Yelp
I'm traveling to Boston for vacation, I'm from Mn so I'm used to people being nice to me. In Boston they are called mass-holes, our server was a mass-hole. Took forever to come back to our table. Was rude, blunt, and seemed to not be enjoying her shift. When it was time to pay she was upset that we asked to split the check and seemed to forget what we had even ordered. Bloody Mary was okay, 4-10. But guiness, is guiness. Fries, unsalted and tasted like old oil.

Monica A.

Yelp
While in town November 2020, I knew I needed to visit an Irish pub as part of the Boston experience It was a really cold night and sitting outside was out of the question for me. Thankfully they were allowing to sit inside and were reasonably spacing out guests and parties accordingly. There was an international crowd that night and was just a fun experience. The staff was very friendly and attentive indeed. Ordered a couple of Draft Guinness which somehow did taste different, much more full bodied than the ones I've had before. Ordered an app as well, I think it's "required" if a person is drinking (?). But didn't mind it since the beer packed a punch lol Had the Potato skins dish which were huge! Tasty and nicely made. I'd have ordered more stuff if it wasn't because I was already full from this large appetizer.the Christmas decor was so cute to see against the beautiful interiors of the pub. Great place :)

Nicole Y.

Yelp
Great service and true Irish food. Started with the potato skins. The chicken sandwich had a Irish bbq sauce on it which was a unique flavor. The beef stew was the best item in the trio and I would probably get a bowl of that next time!

Stephanie J.

Yelp
Stopped here for drinks and live music near our hotel. Staff was friendly. Fun intimate atmosphere.

Tammy B.

Yelp
We're from California and this is what we pictured when we thought of a Boston bar - very lively and plenty of Irish accents. The musical act was fantastic. One of our best memories of our trip to Boston was our evening here.

Jeff H.

Yelp
Cool place. Great, friendly service, I didn't try the food but it looked and smelled amazing. Big fan of Mr. Dooley's! Can't wait to go back if I'm ever in Boston.

Jeff M.

Yelp
So nice place but I don't go to Irish pubs to hear covers of American songs. Maybe I just caught a bad night. But there are plenty of places to hear CCR and Eric Clapton.

BostonFoodie S.

Yelp
Watch your bar tabs at this place. Bartender with a fade like hair cut added drinks to my tab that were never ordered. Brought the issue to the attention of staff and they did nothing to rectify the situation. Faneuil Hall scammers.

Hannah H.

Yelp
We decided to eat at Mr. Dooley's during our stay for PAX East. It was right down the street from our airbnb and we saw a lot of people going in and out. I ordered the eggs Benedict and my partner ordered the breakfast sandwich. It took about 30 minutes for our order to come out. After we got out food the waitress didn't come back to check on us. After 30 minutes of waiting we saw that she was talking to other customers at the bar and texting in the back. We asked her to bring us our check to leave. Food was mediocre. The Holland size sauce was thick and a little clumpy. The flavor was good, but it wasn't worth the time we spent there.

Phylicia H.

Yelp
Stopped at this cute Irish pub for dinner and will definitely return when I am back in Boston. They do not take reservations but the bouncer out front was very helpful and kept talking to different waiters/waitresses to give us an estimated wait time. His favorite dish was the gaelic chicken sandwich, and I wish I went for that! I ordered the chicken Irish curry, which was very tasty but it wasn't what I was expecting. I am Japanese and it tasted similar to Japanese curry. It was spicier and had different vegetables plus fries, but the actual curry was pretty similar. Delicious but I wanted something different. My dad ordered the Dooley's Breakfast Burger w/onion rings and kept raving how delicious it was. Super cute pub to check out!

Trevor B.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and good food. Service was great. Enjoyed my Bangers and Mash. Location close to Quincy Market.

Eric G.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. Very festive for the holidays! Truly enjoyed my experience here for drinks and music. (Did not try any food however the food I did see looked good) way to end your night and experience a true Boston bar! Would come back and recommend to anyone visiting.
