"Mr. Ed’s Oyster Bar & Fish House is expanding again, reports Ian McNulty at The Advocate. The restaurant — which combines traditional New Orleans flavors with contemporary seafood selections like charbroiled oysters — is slated to open at 821 Iberville Street in late October. Mr. Ed’s will take over the former V Sushi & Martini Space, which closed last year. The new Mr. Ed’s will seat 200 across 8,000 square feet and will feature a stand-up oyster bar, like the brand’s other locations. This will mark the fifth total location of Mr. Ed’s in Louisiana — the fourth in New Orleans proper and the second in the French Quarter itself. The budding local mini-chain has opened locations in Uptown and in Mid-City. The new French Quarter location is situated just a handful of blocks away from its established French Quarter spot, which is on Bienville Street. Mr. Ed’s got its start in Metairie after taking over the spot formerly occupied by Bozo’s; parent company Mr Ed’s Restaurant Group celebrates its 30th year of business just this month." - Alison Baitz

I've had dreams of the meals I was blessed with here. Good golly. We WILL be back. I wish I could remember the name of our server. His recommendations were on point! Nothing disappointed at all.

Came here for my birthday dinner last night & everything was so good, I’m glad I decided to change restaurants. The drinks were on point & did what they needed to do & the staff had A1 service. The waiter was very attentive & made sure my table was good , also had a nice vibe & great music. 10/10 would recommend 💕💕 oh and those oysters 👌🏽 chefs kiss.

Google
My wife and I were craving some grilled oysters and we decided to give Mr. Ed's a try. We were both very happy with both styles of oysters and the stuffed red fish dinner. We will definitely be back when the seafood cravings strike again!

Google

This is our new favorite spot! Delicious food and awesome service!

Google
This was a fantastic experience. I ordered the chicken gumbo and sent it back because it was too grease. The flavor was top notch but did not need the extra bathroom breaks. The seafood salad my wife had was awesome. We had a surprise large party of over 30 people. The water Chris did a great job. He was grasus. Thank you for all you guys did.

Google
Great restaurant off the main road. Always consistently good food. Great staff as well

Yelp
This is our first stop when we fly in and we were starving. Sherri was our server and she great! We started with raw oysters( our favorite), crawfish bread, entrees grilled shrimp with jambalaya as a side and I asked for veggies as a side. The best homemade lemon pie for last. We are never disappointed! Stop in and enjoy!

Anthony C.

Yelp
The menu was plentiful with just about any type of seafood item that you could think of. I settled on the seafood platter, which consisted of fried shrimp, fish and oysters. This may be the second time I've had oysters and I've determined that I'm not a fan. They weren't bad but they're just not my thing. Shrimp and fish were delicious, as were the fries. I accompanied the meal with a salad which was fresh, crisp and delicious. Only had water to drink, but there was a fully stocked bar.

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Food was fresh and excellent! Tricia at the bar was the best part of the night, she was SO friendly and a vibe. Returning just for her service. 10/10 would recommend. We had the gumbo, oysters (if you're from the coast these are some hefty delicious oysters), po boys, jambalaya and red beans and rice.

Rebecca O.

Yelp
Very disappointed. First time & last time here. the fried shrimp were the only good thing on plates! Crawfish were so "fishy" and cheese was like water. Awful! Chargrilled oysters smothered with jalapeños.. can't even taste oyster. Service was good. We did tell her about nachos, she agreed. Wish she would have warned us before ordering. If this is someone's first time trying seafood, they would NEVER eat again. over priced for the quality of food coming out of this kitchen!

Les A.

Yelp
Really generous portions. While I had to ask for a gluten-free menu (and got a photocopied page which was wrinkled and stained), I appreciate that they had one and our server was very knowledgeable. Covered outdoor patio is great. I am not missing their panneed trout!

Linh P.

Yelp
Our last stop in Louisiana before we headed home! Since it is an oyster bar, we decided to try all the oysters they had. Raw oysters were fresh and a good size. Charbroiled oysters: delicious and buttery with lots of parm on top and a nice charred flavor. It's always my favorite oysters. What's different between these oysters from other places where I had charbroiled oysters is that they have a delicious butter sauce on the bottom of the oysters where you can dip the loaf of bread that they give you. For the half and half oysters, we liked the one with bacon more. Fried chicken: skin was very crispy and the chicken was very moist, but the fried chicken overall was a little bland. I'm used to getting all the spices and flavor from my go to popeyes.

Kim A.

Yelp
Great food! My husband got the redfish and I got the Pasta Orleans. My husband said his was good but he said mine was better! It was amazing. We will be back when we go to NOLA again

Katie B.

Yelp
We had a great new orleans style seafood meal here after a long day of shopping. The food hit the spot - great place for seafood!

bruce s.

Yelp
An authentic, ass kicking panhandle fish/seafood joint. But only giving them 4 stars on the strength of their oysters, as Mr Ed's Oyster Bar namesake implies. My fried seafood platter was soggy and without flavor. But the oysters were exceptional.

Cindy H.

Yelp
Food is good if you like fried food. They have a nice menu I love the raw oysters but since the crushed ice machine broke the shuckers have to use regular ice and the oysters fall over and the oyster liquid all spills out. It's very annoying. That and the 2nd beer tap no longer works makes me wonder why they aren't fixing things that are broken. We enjoy the place. Great servers and bartenders but it makes me wonder why equipment is never fixed.

Chick M.

Yelp
Giant oysters on the 1/2 shell. Real fresh but not salty enough for my taste. Still really good. Finished with the shrimp and oyster platter. Good but no bread. I need bread. Friendly bar staff. Like this place.

Trey L.

Yelp
Food is always great, ambiance is nice, and Patrick our bartender & 'Drake' the world's best oyster shucker treat us like family.

Kyle C.

Yelp
Forgot to take any photos. But definitely would recommend this place for a casual dinner. Was easy to get into on a Saturday evening. I had the turtle soup which was delicious. We also had the 1/2 oyster Rockefeller and 1/2 Bienville which were also delicious + served with fresh French bread. I had the shrimp & grits entree and I must say it was phenomenal. I love the way the BBQ shrimp paired with the grits.

Peyton W.

Yelp
Decided to try somewhere different in the area. The service was great and the food was good. Casual dining with upscale seafood and plates.

Marylou D.

Yelp
Ate here last Saturday with a party of 10. Food was good but the server we had, Blake B , was exceptional. He refilled our water glasses numerous times whenever they needed it. Several patrons got coffee after the meal and he even went so far as to brewing a fresh pot for them. They too had their cups refilled numerous times . All of this was without any asking on our part. He was spot on. Best waiter I've had in a very long time. Thank you, Blake B.

Anna Laura M.

Yelp
As usual Mr. Ed's is on point. Do not miss out on this fantastic food and great service. It a shame I cannot give it more stars.

Levette D.

Yelp
Five stars for customer service. Blake, our server, was excellent. While we were there, he handled a party of 16 and 3 other tables and didn't miss a beat. Now that service. As for the char-grilled oysters, they were different than any I've tried before. They were very flavorful and piping hot. There is a hint of smoky flavoring, tons of butter, garlic, and herbs. My only negative is the rosemary. The rosemary pieces were too large. I kept feeling them stuck in my teeth, but the flavor overall was delicious. We also ordered the crawfish Rockefeller oysters. Those were a meal, for sure. Large chunks of bacon mixed with cheese, artichokes, and spinach grilled to perfection. As for the ambiance it's just ok. Small parking lot with a dated interior.

Jeffrey R.

Yelp
The food is delicious! We had the gumbo which was made with a genuine roux. I had the trout almandine served with Meunière sauce. Classic New Orleans cuisine that I highly recommend.

Dean W.

Yelp
Thank you for your response, I realy appreciate it. I would love to come back and try your food. The menu did look good. Thank you for trying to reach out. I am reediting my review as I m glad you reached out Thanks

Elicia D.

Yelp
Mr Ed's Oyster Bar and Fish House in Metairie Louisiana gave everything that you would want from a Louisiana dinner. It is far better than anything you will have in the French quarter. Service was amazing, oysters were so big and fresh everything was Devine. We had no issue finding parking. We were promptly seated on arrival. We food came out quick and hot. I literally have no complaints except that I had not discovered this gem earlier. We started with raw oysters, chargrilled Oysters and Crawfish oysters Rockefeller. I had a cup of gumbo and red beans and rice. To finish it off we had the Rum Bread Pudding that should not be missed. From start to finish we left feeling well cared for and full. Portion sizes are great price is much cheaper than we anticipated. Market price was definitely better than we have seen our whole trip. $23/per dozen. Thank you, we will absolutely be back!

Patty G.

Yelp
Wow!! Oysters were delicious. I highly recommend the charbroiled oysters, the seasoning is perfection. The service was great, very attentive staff. The place was lively , busy for a Tuesday. When I'm back in New Orleans this is a must visit again.

Farah M.

Yelp
It is amazing food great service so nice even offered to pay for my dads bread pudding

Andi F.

Yelp
Mr Ed's is a local chain. The weekend lunchtime I came, the waiter was a middle aged guy who was kind of a dude-bro wanna be, but he didn't mess anything up. I have been wanting to try this place, just to say I had. The crab au gratin was lovely, as was the peach cobbler. Everything was neat and clean. The women's restroom, one stall was so very small my knees touched the door when closed and I am not tall at all.

Lorena C.

Yelp
We had a new-ish server, super friendly. They free parking, have a weird seat arrangement indoor and more of a large table set up for the outdoor seating area. Challenge for me is they have a lot of options, so I kept changing my mind while we waited for the server. I know I could go back and have a few more good meals. Somethings like entrees and appetizers were very diverse, but there's kind of a limited bar with coke products only. We were hungry so kinda forgot abt pics. But we enjoyed the red beans and rice with catfish. Idk how they fry it but it got mixed reviews with our group, but I thought it was good. We had three types of oysters--all were very fresh and delicious, unique flavors and a table pleaser. The drinks were just okay. I think eliminating the use of highballs for margaritas and keeping all the top shelf (not well liquors) on deck would fix that little problem. They have a little post on the menu about not over harvesting, which is why the oyster menu has been reduced--which honestly, I love. We have to be kind to the planet bc she spoils us, especially well here in North America. Anywho, the really good crawfish po'boy came on the same light crunchy airy yummy bread that's with the oysters, and we had enough of everything for leftovers. Mr. Ed's got a good thing going. We will be back!

Yelp
The location on Carrollton had an extremely long wait, so we ended up here in Metairie. The vibe here was totally different, very dull, boring and uncomfortably warm. However, our server was excellent! We started with a half dozen chargrilled oysters. They weren't the best, and although they weren't terrible, I wouldn't get them again. The shrimp poboy had the potential to be decent BUT the shrimp had not been deveined. That was a total turn off. The other guest had the peach cobbler and liked it. But for $9, it was literally 2 bites of cobbler and a scoop of ice cream. I definitely wouldn't return to this location, but may consider trying the Carrollton location again.

Peter R.

Yelp
I ordered this Full Fried Shrimp Poboy tonight around 7:30 pm on 07/31/2023 (Today). I went to pick it up, and paid the $18 plus tip for my 16" poboy. First of all it's not 16", and it's all bread. Pictured below is half of my "16" poboy" with barely any shrimp or fixings for it being "dressed". The other half was the same with no shrimp and barely and toppings. This to me is very sad because when you order a poboy you look forward to all the protein, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles & Mayo (barely any!) on your sandwich. If you want a loaf of bread with a few shrimp then go here! Sadly displeased.

Yelp
Needing one last Louisiana meal before sending our friend on her way to the airport, we dropped in to Mr. Ed's. It was a busy holiday weekend, so we sat at the bar. Our bartender was super friendly and engaging, and she didn't seem annoyed that we were not drinking (as New Orleans had already gotten the best of my friends!). I ordered the stuffed bell peppers that were very similar to what you'd make at home. Light ground beef and shrimp cooked up nicely into a bell pepper split in half. There was a side of mashed potatoes with a health heaping of gravy on it. Some green beans completed the dish, and after a weekend of highly seasoned and some fried dishes, this is what i needed. My friends got poboys and said they were delicious. Another ordered a half dozen raw oysters that were freshly shucked in front of us, but i refrained as i tend to shy away from those in the summer months. It may be an old wives tale, but I don't eat raw oysters in months without an R in them. The bathroom, well, I'm 5'2" and the first stall was so crammed that i felt like a giant. I would certainly recommend Mr. Ed's to anyone visiting the area looking for some local flare. Good place with friendly people!

Karla H.

Yelp
I have NEVER in all the 20 years that I have visited Mr. Ed's seen nothing near this experience. I ordered a broil SUPER seafood plater at it had six shrimps a horrible looking crab cab and 7 little bitty catfish pieces on it. This is very disappointing. I frequent the Mr Ed on Live oak once a week. Never!!! It's a shame. The service is EXCELLENT!!! I sat at the bat.

Tiffany H.

Yelp
First time here and it was an okay dining experience . Let me preface this by saying, the Garlic Parmesan Chargrilled Oysters were really good and well seasoned; the entree was slightly disappointing though. Initially, I ordered stuffed bell peppers and was not impressed with the texture and taste so unfortunately I had to send it back. Secondly, I decided to order fried catfish dinner served with fries and jambalaya. This was disappointing as well. The catfish were fillets and lacked the wow factor, pretty bland not much to rave about. The fries unfortunately never made it to my plate. So there's that. Now, the jambalaya really dropped the ball. It was pretty awful. I'm a southern girly and grew up with Cajun/Creole cuisine and had really high expectations for the jambalaya and sadly it did NOT deliver. It was extremely dry , weirdly textured, the seasoning just didn't work and it lacked visual presentation as well. Although, the main dishes were an epic disappointment, the BREAD PUDDING WITH RUM SAUCE WAS DELICIOUS!! OMG!!! I'd return just for the oysters and bread pudding alone!!! So dine here without any expectations because results may vary. Lastly, my waitress was very nice and the service was great.

Yelp
Was here for Family Reunion; excellent food and outstanding service. Room nice for group; recommend

Michael C.

Yelp
Food is amazing , everything freshly made , chargrill oysters best ever , seafood poboys , fried chicken is off the charts . Would definitely recommend.. ambiance is welcoming , patio for outside dining .. Pat , Blake an mark or exceptional at there jobs !!

Adelino E.

Yelp
This place was great had an amazing selection of oysters. Which we tried a half dozen of all. While here I tried the cheese grits and seafood gumbo as well. As the stuffed crawfish mushrooms. Dessert was a pudding bread or so that is special to New Orleans it was also amazing. The food was fresh fast and server Mike killed it never letting my ice tea or water get low. Super knowledgeable on every item on the menu very punctual while maintaining his other tables as well in the restaurant. A+++ Service & Food.

Taurie H.

Yelp
My husband and I are from the NorthShore and was craving charbroiled oysters. We decided to try something different because NOF&S was closed. Needless to say, Mr. Ed's didn't disappoint!! Omgee, from the food, service and ambience everything was a 10 except the TAP WATER. Lol We order the Southwest charbroiled oysters added bacon and they were delicious!! Yum We also ordered the crawfish, shrimp and spinach dip as an appetizer. It was scrumptious, cheesy, but delicious! We shared the 1/2 fried catfish and shrimp platter it was plentiful and delicious! No after taste from old oil, tartar sauce is dill and it's amazing! We'll definitely be back! Watch out NOF&S them oyster something serious over at MR. ED'S!

Rebecca W.

Yelp
Food was excellent! Grilled shrimp and Avocado Salads are delicious.Really don't know where to get a salad like this anywhere else. Charbroiled oysters were great. Good service also.

Robby M.

Yelp
If you're not in here throwing your money at Ashleigh to feed you, are you even eating, bro? Seriously, this hard working young lady is rocking it out for server of the decade, y'all. What a great meal! Grilled and raw oysters and an avocado appetizer that had me playing Harry to an imaginary Sally. OMGODOMGODOMGOD Great food all around, super service (best anywhere)...just a down home New Orleans style restaurant with great people. And try that avocado salad app, it's so damned good!

Stephanie J.

Yelp
The go to place for family and friends get togethers! Love the choices, my favorite is the fried chicken! Huge portions! The menu offers a great variety for any diet restrictions and the restaurant is casual for a great easygoing afternoon or evening

Blake M.

Yelp
Have to give 5 stars! 2nd time here and the atmosphere, service and food were exceptional. A big shout out to Blake our server. Had to get the Buffalo Oysters with Blue cheese. Best tasting combo we have ever eaten....that is until Cristina and I shared the avocado crab dip with homemade salsa and chips. Amazing combo of colors and flavors. It was bother great meal at Mr Ed's! We will def be back for more of the menu choices.

Nan O.

Yelp
Service is always awesome! Food always above & beyond. Oysters are fresh & wonderful. The shrimp on the seafood salad were huge. This place is such a consistent delight.

Michael A.

Yelp
Such a low class of service. When I sent my roastbeef sandwich back because it was not prepared correctly, I was shamed. I was brought back a plain sandwich with all the fixings in separate bowls. It was announced that this was the last sandwich in the restaurant and that I would have to make my own sandwich. I did not know that a roastbeef po-boy with mayo, pickles and gravey was going to be so taxing on the kitchen staff. First time visit equals LAST visit.

Steve L.

Yelp
Picked myself up a Southern Plate: Fried Chicken (dark), fried shrimp, fried catfish and Jambalaya for dinner and boy was it delightful. The service by Tim was outstanding, what a down to earth kind of guy! If you get Tim as your server, be sure to save him a peach cobbler!

Allie O.

Yelp
I was shocked, and extremely disappointed with the crab au gratin dinner that I picked up from Mr. Ed's today. I have eaten there many times, and have picked up food from there as I live very nearby. The amount of crab au gratin seemed to be about half of the normal portion. The vegetables were steamed and had no flavor at all. The potatoes were soggy and sad. Everything was lukewarm at best, and it didn't have time to cool down on the drive home, because it takes me two minutes to get home from there. It is my birthday today, so I wanted to treat myself, but instead, I got this pathetic meal. There was only a few bites of au gratin, I ate one bite of the vegetables, and one potato, and threw the rest in the trash. I'm still hungry.

Cynthia H.

Yelp
While visiting our grandchildren, we discovered this gem! We were greeted and immediately seated. We had one hot and one cold appetizer as well as a cup of turtle soup, all before our oyster Poboy arrived. Our waiter was very attentive and would remove our plates and refill our drinks without disturbing our conversations. Well done, Mike C! We will definitely return for more of your delicious food and hospitality!

Shawn W.

Yelp
Omg the charbroiled oysters with crab meat....amazing. The service, amazing and the atmosphere was nice and laid back

Paul C.

Yelp
One thing I love about Yelp is being 300+ miles from home and seeing a local review by one of my homeboys. We were dining at what I thought was a relatively obscure place when I noticed it was reviewed by Birmingham community manager, Will B. His five star opinion is one that I definetly trust! This party started with cocktails and chargrilled oysters. The oysters were nice and plump. They were seasoned well and not overcooked. The shells were clean and shucked neatly. No loose shell pieces and the butter was clear enough to soak up with the French bread. Nice job. Based on the recommendation by our waiter I ordered the Redfish Amanda. It's a huge Redfish filet that is grilled with Cajun spices and topped with a generous portion of crawfish ettoufee. The fish is served on a bed of white rice. It comes with a side of veggies and roasted potatoes. This is a large dish that would satisfy even the biggest appetite. I took a star off because mine wasn't very hot, and that was disappointing. There are so many great family owned restaurants like this in New Orleans. The locals are lucky.

Dwain R.

Yelp
Food was fantastic! The chargrilled oysters for appetizer are so good. The chargrilled redfish has the best flavor and was prepared perfectly, tasted heavenly, and has no fishy taste. The grilled veggies and red potatoes that went with it were delicious. Everything that I ate was perfect. Our waitress was so helpful, so patient and so nice. She had a good sense of humor and served our table well. I could see where some may hesitate to stop here. The front does seem a little outdated. For me though, I don't judge restaurants by the outside appearance. I judge by the number of cars in the parking lot, the overall feel you get when you meet the employees and ultimately the food you get served . And with that criteria, I believe they deserve five stars. I would definitely go back.

Marilyn K.

Yelp
We were visiting the area and as we waited on some friends to arrive we decided to make an impromptu stop at this place. I was with two friends...one being my fav oyster companion so we were accepting all challenges! The staff here was so sweet providing us with sooooooo many recommendations and also gave some suggestions of things we could do around the city while we waited. We kept it simple with the drinks only looking for tequila and OJ but went a little crazy with the oysters. So many I couldn't name them all but we did have some chargrilled and they were all to die for. I will be adding this restaurant as a "must stop" destination for whenever I take my annual trip to New Orleans.

Billy S.

Yelp
The oyster shucker Sam is the BEST. Great guy. The Wifie wanted char grilled oysters fresh shucked before firing them up. Normally they pre-shuck 'em, but he said "For you, no problem. I'll shuck 'em now". Very personable. Knowledgeable about the history behind Mr. Ed's. He's a "five star guy. Foods great! Service great! "Come and get it!"

Barbara G.

Yelp
Best Chargrilled oysters by far! Love their daily specials. I've tried most items on the menu and I haven't had a bad meal yet. Wonderful staff.

Zoe D.

Yelp
I have to admit it has been a minute since we've eaten out but I must say the customer service was immaculate and the food was amazing! Due to COVID-19 things are different and there are so many procedures that are set in place to protect patrons. Patrick was our server and he was perfect! I appreciate everything!
