18 Best Myrtle Beach Restaurants to Try | Eater Carolinas

"Mr. Fish takes what’s fresh and serves it to customers how they like it. The way to go is with a platter, with your choice of proteins from the display case, decide if you want it blackened, fried, or grilled, and then pick your sides. There are also specialty items like lump crab cakes, fish hibachi, or shrimp and grits." - Ashley Daniels

Google
Best fish market in Myrtle Beach. The staff is great, great teamwork, very happy staff. The owner must treat them like family. They are well known for their fresh fish. It's a good sign when you see chefs from restaurants coming in to buy their fresh fish. And they do cook for you. We came in for clams on the half shell, and had a craving for fried oysters. Great portions for the price, and unquestionable Quality Inn freshness.

Google
In town visiting, I really wanted some fried haddock and grill shrimp. I ordered the seafood platter option with 2 sides; street corn and side salad. In addition, I ordered the shrimp egg roll. First, let me say that the shrimp egg roll was delicious! Omg. I am glad I ordered that because the fried haddock was tasteless with no seasoning and softly fried. I was so disappointed. The grilled shrimp was good, but I wanted my haddock to be good as well. The street corn was odd looking and tasting. I wasn't sure if it was because it was old and cold or just not good. My bill was $40.14. Again, I was visiting and relied on these reviews. I have mixed feelings but probably wouldn't return...well maybe for the shrimp egg roll.

Google
Wow! This place is amazing! The fish tacos, fish platter, and shrimp hibachi were incredible! So much flavor! Luke was absolutely phenomenal in helping us pick what to order! All the staff were super friendly! 10/10 from me! We will be back annually when we visit Myrtle Beach!

Google
Great tasting food, ability to get local fresh fish or cooked to order imported fish. Not s flashy place, smells like fish when you enter but that's just because it's a fish market and you can't really get any fresher. Mix of locals and tourists. Decent prices. My only complaint was that the food could have been hotter, but they have these big ceiling fans, so I think it's hard for it to stay super hot. There are booths and tables to eat at .

Google
Very homey place IMO! The staff was friendly and extremely helpful; as someone not familiar with the place, I had questions regarding the fish, menu, and how we go about ordering and whatnot. The food was soooooo good (we ordered the crab dip, fish trio, and bbq salmon sandwich). It feels very welcoming here; it’s definitely a place I would make as a must-stop-here when I come back to the beach.

Google
Absolutely delicious food, and great experience! Staff very friendly and helpful. You can pick your own seafood from their display coolers, and they fix it to your taste. Perfection! Nothing fancy, just excellent seafood!

Google
We drop by every time we vacation in Myrtle Beach but this time we had the pleasure of meeting the man himself, Mr. Fish! The service is always so friendly, fish is so fresh and delicious! I got the half dozen oyster and fresh flounder fried from the market place. New addition is their sushi and poke bar! They use high quality salmon from the Faroe Islands and it was so incredibly buttery and flavorful. Thank you Mr. Fish for the wonderful meal!

Google
Shrimp and grits all day long. Crayfish. Don’t bother. They didn’t have live. Someone behind the counter suggested getting the frozen ones and steaming. Dry tasteless. Awful actually. 😞 Fish sandwich was great. Hush puppies yummy.

Yelp
We returned a second time this week for another amazing meal. My husband ate nearly 20 oysters on the half-she'll...I ate a few too and just like the last time we were here: they were stellar. YUM! We had the jerk fish appetizer, which is lovely grilled fish with a jerk marinade. Oh my stars!! So so good! I had the grouper, rice, and the BEST grilled street corn. This place is FANTASTIC....if you're in Myrtle Beach, Mr. fish is a MUST!

Yelp
Omg what an awesome little hidden gem! I am not a seafood fan. But I can't imagine many places beating this. Walk up and order at the counter. They bring it out. A lot of people went in and bought seafood to take home. They have a counter to go order sushi the way you want it and watch it get rolled in front of you. I got the steak Philly sandwich. The hoagie bun was delicious and soft. My dad got the Grilled shrimp and grilled blackened fish Side of coleslaw and hush puppies. Such a cool little place! Can't get much fresher than this.

Yelp
I used to come all the time to the Mr Fish Restaurant that was next door to the market and I was sad to see that it's no longer there. My wife has never been here and I've been trying to bring her here for a while. Well we finally made it and I'm glad to say that the food has somehow gotten even better than it was at the restaurant next door. My wife and I ordered the street corn, half dozen oysters, fish tacos, and the chefs special steam pot and she was blown away at how good and fresh everything tasted. The young man taking our order was really cool and helpful and we enjoyed our dinner there a lot! We will definitely be coming back next time we are in Myrtle beach.

Yelp
So when my brother suggested this, I said Oh Yeah I remember this place. Well it is not that place. The one I was thinking of unfortunately closed down. This is more like a fish market hence the name. There is very little seating, they take your order at the counter and give you a number. You then wait for 30 minutes or so for the to bring the food. Now, for the food....it is spectacular! It is fresh and delicious. My brother got the oysters Rockefeller but ate them so fast I did not get a picture. We ordered a half pound of peel and eat shrimp but I swear they gave us a pound or more. It was HUGE. Very good. We also got blackened fish tacos which were also delicious. A pitcher of beer for $20 and our total bill for everything was less than $60 so totally worth it. Just get there early because seating is limited and parking is even more limited.

Yelp
Best fish tacos I've ever had! Amazing fresh fish and friendly helpful staff. Staying in Myrtle Beach, it is difficult to find good, healthy food so I was so happy to find this gem. Next time I come, I will eat at this place multiple times. Excellent value as well. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Consistently great, fresh seafood and service. Some of my favorites are the fish tacos and whole fried flounder. We have been dining there for many years now and the food is always great.

Yelp
Love this place. Wonderful food, employees, and a great local business! Go support this place because it is a gem. Hush puppies and stuffed crab are so good!

Yelp
We had a great dinner of their famous fish tacos and grilled snapper platter (a bit too much black pepper seasoning). The street corn was fantastic! Loved their she-crab soup. Next time, I will try their tuna chili. Service was friendly. You order at the counter next to draft beers) and pre-pay first. Then you are assigned a number placard, seat yourself, and their nice staff will bring ordered food to your table.

Yelp
A few streets over from the ocean, Mr. Fish seafood market was a place that we stumbled upon and thrilled about it. Live fish or cooked fish they have it all we tried their fish tacos. Also their shrimp tacos. Both of them were amazing and we came back the next day to get some more. The service was great on recommending items that were famous at their location and the store was very clean. Stay fishy.

Sarah A.

Yelp
Great menu and service. Food was excellent and plentiful. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
We came here after another seafood market in town absolutely fumbled the bag on us. Long story short, we placed an order for 2 sacks of live crawfish (60-70lbs) at another market for a crawfish boil. The day before we were supposed to pick it up, they sold it to someone else?? We called Mr. Fish and they were are saving grace. We told them about our situation, and they were more the accommodating. Not only did they give us the rest of their live crawfish (25lbs), they discounted the price per pound for us. Not to mention, the crawfish was already CLEANED AND PURGED!! The crawfish were also SO big. What an absolute treasure! To make up for the fact that we didn't have enough crawfish to feed 16 people, they gave us the same discount on shrimp. Not to mention, they only charged us for 1/2 of the seasoning. Everyone behind the counter was so sweet and friendly and accommodating. Any time we are coming into town, Mr. Fish is the first place we are going. They took care of us, and I have no doubt they will do it again. Mr. Fish, thank you for saving our bachelor trip. We are forever indebted to you!!!

Ty Q.

Yelp
This place SUCKS!!!! onions rings, COLD and WET?!?!?! The Philly cheese steak, theu were out of steak, and the bun fell apart...... sweet tea, wasn't even sweet?!?? Atleast it was seasoned well...... 0/10 definitely do not recommend
google avatar

Yelp
Great hole in the wall, but very clean. A local gem for years. You order at the counter, grab a draft or bottled beer and have a seat. For wine drinkers, they have a selection by the bottle and limited by the glass. Service is fast and servers are polite. The seafood is fresh and reasonably priced. It's also a fish market but doesn't smell like one. Top notch for those looking for a laid back, flip flop attire restaurant. They apparently do a great to-go business with the steam pot, which I will be returning for.
google avatar

Richard N.

Yelp
Another great meal with the fish and shrimp tacos. Not a busy day at the restaurant but will warn you that the table we sat at was next to the coolers that had a on and off noice similar to an aircraft taking off so would avoid those tables. Staff were friendly with a large take our seafood business.

Ty S.

Yelp
Lacks Customer Service and Honesty. That was my take-away after waiting over a hour for a meal I did not receive.
google avatar

Cathy H.

Yelp
Here we are again! Love this place. Ambiance is fun. Had the Mr. Fish steam pot. Never disappointed . Service is always great. Delicious seafood, sausage is spicy, corn and potatoes....I'm all in. You look..we cook. Fresh fish and seafood cooked to perfection. Do I recommend...yes! Great place for takeout.

Pamela N.

Yelp
One bite spit out my food through out in trash taste was terrible Nothing like picture cooked in bad oil Onion rings rings were not completely cooked Honestly worst fish we ever ate Also purchased Cheeseburger The meat was not cooked 5stars for worst place I've eaten at

Yelp
We've been here many times and it is hit or miss. Our last trip was a miss. Food was horribly overcooked and dry. No flavor. We had raved to our friends how great the place had been the last time we were there and took them for their first visit. I was so embarrassed. Each couple spent $75-$85 total and it was just not worth it. I won't be back because if they can't be consistent, I'm not going to risk it.

Alyssa W.

Yelp
Excellent service and food! We tried a little bit of everything, from fried shrimp, blackened mahi, grilled salmon, street corn, hushpuppies, crab cakes and she crab soup! It was all amazing! We're from Tennessee so we always want a good, local seafood spot when we travel. We looked into all of the other seafood places in town and this one is by far the best bang for your buck, in both price and quality! A great local spot with a comfortable atmosphere! Come hungry!

Shawn F.

Yelp
Blackened fish tacos were awesome. Service was a little slow but they cook to order, so it's understandable. Would definitely come back.

Christina H.

Yelp
This place lives up to the hype of being a hidden gem! We stumbled upon another Yelp review and decided to give it a try and OMG - the service was great and the food was easily the highlight of our trip to Myrtle Beach. Also, it was an amazing value for the quantity and quality of everything we ate.

Yelp
Second time at Mr. Fish and it was just as good as the first. I had a fried clam special and my husband had fish and chips, both excellent. Service was prompt and the food came out hot and fresh, very generous portions. Ambiance is laid back and comfortable. We'll go back as there are a lot more dishes we want to try!
google avatar

Mel S.

Yelp
The she crab soup was perfect! The atmosphere is light. Very casual, very market/deli style. The fish tacos were good, the fish in the tacos were cooked perfectly I could have eaten them by themselves! My family enjoyed their meals. My daughter got the muscles and loved them. My husband had a huge lumped-up crab cake and loved it.
google avatar

Yelp
Short review, everything is amazing the food. The people in the service is all five star check this place out I recommended highly

Yelp
I absolutely loved this spot. It's in a small strip on Kings Hwy. it's really like a seafood market + a cafe'. The fish is extremely fresh and you can buy raw to take home or they will steam or cook it for you. If you prefer more cafe' style, they have an extensive menu for you to walk up and order. Today I chose the daily special. Fresh salmon cake sandwich and fries. I'm very picky about salmon cakes and this was right up there among the best. They were made with super fresh salmon and basically all fish! Crispy brown on the outside and so large it filled the brioche bun nicely. Topped with a nice piece of lettuce and tomato. My mom was with me and ordered the Mr Fishwich with the catch of the day. I think it was grouper. It was delicious as well. If you want the freshest fish cooked to perfection, give this place a try. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Heather M.

Yelp
Best food we had on our visit to Myrtle beach! Super tasty food with good portions and great customer service!
google avatar

Tim M.

Yelp
Read all the five star reviews and thought we'd try Mr. Fish. My wife had fried oysters and I had the lump crab cakes.... Everything tasted ok but both were fried too hard.... My wife's grilled mixed vegetables were greasy. I'm afraid it's a 3 and a half stars from us.

Isabel A.

Yelp
Delicious everything fresh and the best service. Pescado fresco, variedad de pescados y un hidden gem.
google avatar

Brittany M.

Yelp
Food looked great online. Got pick 2 platter salmon and scallops. it was over cooked on the outside and not done on the inside. With a sour lemon butter sauce.
google avatar

Raymond B.

Yelp
This was a great little shop and the people were great. The one thing that got me was the immediate smell of FISH when you first walk in. It was overwhelming if you're not ready for it. We ordered out of the display case, we got the grouper and scallops - grilled, and the flounder wrapped crab meat and shrimp - fried. The food was very good if you get it grilled but my flounder and shrimp were over fried and wasn't enjoyable. For the two dishes we paid around $75 and it wasn't worth the price in my opinion. I've eaten at other similar restaurants and the food was fried and grilled perfectly and the price was much better. I will say, they offer the military discount and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Kerri C.

Yelp
The food was fresh and delicious! Great place to eat! The service was awesome and they had great recommendations! Love the "hole in the wall" type restaurants!

Greg M.

Yelp
I ordered she crab soup. insteade I got she crab onion soup. a mouthful of onions in every bite. so disappointed. poured it down the sink don't get it

Kevin R.

Yelp
I have visited Mr. Fish many times without any issue but yesterday I went in and ordered 24 Little Necks and a sword half a pound of sword for my wife. I was waited on by an older woman who wore glasses who would not sell me a half pound of swordfish wanted me to but 8.99 of a pound which I declined. I looked in the bin where they keep the clams and the clams that where in there open and not good . I asked this woman who was waiting on me it she had fresh clams and she said they did. I gave my card to my wife to pay for it and went into my car to wait. When my wife arrived to the car with the clams I smelled a strong odor and sniffed the bag of clams and almost vomited. I brought them back in and asked the woman if she smelled those clams. She just stared at me blankly I asked the big Afro_ American man who is always there to smell them and he threw them away along with the clams in the bin. OK stuff happens but I never recieved an apologly from the woman or the man and the woman was acting like I was actually bothering her or I was crazy. I was born and raised on Cape Cod so I know clams. I'm a local noiw that drives from Carolina Forest just to eat there and have brought many couples there over the years. I'm rethinking that now.

Yelp
This place was one of the best places we have been in our myrtle beach trip. Food was absolutely delicious and fresh. Staff were so friendly and nice. Atmosphere was laidback and friendly. We loved Mr.fish restaurant.

Yelp
Love this place! Eat where the locals eat. Always fresh seafood and friendly folks. PoBoy's, shrimp or oysters, and platters, mahi or flounder, are my go-to but this visit I went off the usual and ordered the Crab Taco special and a cup of Tuna Chili. Tacos were filling and tasty but fried shrimp tacos are more my preference. I have been curious about the Tuna Chili for awhile so I had to try it. I wish I would have stuck to the she crab soup though. IMHO, tuna doesn't belong in chili but I had a go. Too much curry and too sweet with not enough tuna. Some may like it, so kudos to the chef for offering something unique. Anyway, by far my fave spot in MB for affordable fresh seafood. Also, they have great ribs!

Matt C.

Yelp
Had the fish and chips with oysters. The fish was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. The oysters were very fresh and also very tasty. Prices were fair, would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Kim S.

Yelp
I will keep coming back. The cases are filled with beautiful fresh fish options. To be able to select your fish straight from the case and they prepare it for you to perfection is a no-brained. We've enjoyed lunch there and also got some smoked fish dip and fish to take home. Even if I am just driving through, I'll be sure to stop here every time. They weren't super busy when we arrived and the service was excellent. As we were eating they got much busier. They have a lot of items on shelves to make this a one-stop shop for your complete dinner prep needs. Sauces, spices, etc. The market is super casual and have a few tables inside. They have a restaurant next door but I much prefer this spot for the casual nature. Enjoy!

Nancy B.

Yelp
Very nice seafood market. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We purchased a pound of shrimp. It was tasty and priced reasonably.

Gina C.

Yelp
The service is top notch. The fish is delicious. Since I found this place I started coming in weekly. The fish is always fresh! They are reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This was so above and beyond a wonderful experience that I'm writing my review over a month later! My mom and I spontaneously went to Myrtle Beach to get away from the aftermath of the hurricane and I really just wanted some oysters, I was craving oysters so much. So we swung by and took a chance on a place we didn't know and from the beginning the man at the front counter, I wish I could remember his name but he had long brown hair in a ponytail and blue eyes, he was just wonderful. Some of the best customer service I've ever had. I've been going through a tough time lately, and he just said the sweetest things that made our whole night better. On top of it he made sure that every part of our meal was to our satisfaction and checked on us. Everything was absolutely delicious and the chef was super personable as well. We loved this place and we will definitely be back when we return!
google avatar

Lew Y.

Yelp
Many different varieties of fresh fish available. Where the locals and many other restaurants get their fish. Got the trio (Sea Bass, Grouper, Red Snapper). All A++. Also a variety of draft beers (several local craft beer) and wine.

Kim C.

Yelp
My husband and I come here at least once a week. Amazing fresh fish...we order 1 dozen steamed blue crabs, whole dry blackened Branzino.. onion rings grilled veggies oh and the best she crab soup in all South Carolina. Also 1 dozen steamed little neck clams. We had a place like this in New York and was thrilled to have found this place. Chaz and Daren are amazing as well as the other employees. We always make sure we take care of them and we hope everyone else does. There are weeks my husband wants to eat here everyday. So for anyone to say that they had issues it is hard for me to believe since I come here so often and never ever had a problem Thanks Guys! See you soon!
google avatar

Maynard P.

Yelp
The food was great. Service fast. Price was right. The ambiance was simple and low-key.
google avatar

Sesa K.

Yelp
Absolutely blown away by this place. Wasn't sure if we were at the right spot when we first pulled up- looks like a grocery store from the outside! Husband and I both had beers, he got blackened mahi mahi and scallops, I got snow crab legs, and we shared a dozen oysters. Oysters were sweet and oceany, Husband said this was the best mahi mahi he's ever had, and I'd agree! Scallops were so tender and flavorful, and my crab was fresh and delicious. Can't wait to go back!

Rayfer T.

Yelp
Crab cake sandwich no sides $17... absurd way too expensive for a sandwich alone don't you think
google avatar

Ian M.

Yelp
Mr. Fish has the freshest seafood on the Strand. The variety of fish and shellfish will cover whatever you have a taste for that day. The servers are welcoming and knowledgeable. You will be happy you shopped there.
google avatar

Shauna O.

Yelp
Feels like a classic place that's been around for decades! The two gentlemen taking the orders are sweet and knowledgeable. The food - average. I had the blacked red snapper which was flavorful and fresh, the sides I chose were hushpuppies and street corn which both came out cold. The calamari was very chewy but the batter was light and crispy. My husband's shrimp tacos were fully loaded but the shells were over cooked in some spots and undercooked in others. It wasn't a bad meal, but I don't know that I'd rush back.
google avatar

Regina A.

Yelp
Absolutely DELICIOUS fish tacos. We have eaten here once or twice the last 3 visits to Myrtle, and they never disappoint. This is a fish market where they sell very fresh seafood, with tables inside for eating in. Interesting "ambiance" and fun to read signs, posters, t-shirts. We will go back next visit.

Justin C.

Yelp
Simple, fresh, AMAZING! Skip the high priced buffets and visit Mr. Fish if you want great seafood with a laid back beachy vibe. You won't be disappointed!!! Eat in, take out or get something fresh to take home and prepare yourself.
