Had dinner at Mr. Fox, a new restaurant in Parnell Square, on a recent trip to Dublin. It's from the same people behind The Pig's Ear, which I ate at on my last visit to the city and loved.
The space is modern and warm. There's also an awesome little bar to grab a drink before dinner, where we sat and had a glass of champagne. In addition to the incredible bread with whipped butter they send out, we tried the oysters, deviled eggs and pig's head to start. The deviled eggs were out of this world and the oysters some of the best I have had. Super fresh. From the starters we tried the crab ravioli (a must order) and the bone marrow which was the best thing I ate during the entire trip. I'm still thinking about that dish. So rich and savory. For mains, we had the cod and the venison which were both great. The cod was cooked to perfection and served over a corn succotash that I wish I could make at home. The venison was another standout dish and one I would order again and again. We also ordered a side of carrots which were spicy and delicious. For dessert we tried the orange "supersplit" and the chocolate bouchon. The orange was an olive oil cake with vanilla ice cream and clementine granita. Very refreshing and clean, especially after such a big meal. The chocolate bouchon had everything we wanted in a chocolate dessert and we basically licked the plate clean. It was fancy and fun. On top of all the great food, the service was fantastic, which made our meal even more special. The real kicker, though, was the price tag. A meal like that would cost an arm and a leg in NYC where we live. The prices were extremely reasonable, especially given the level of the food and the service. I can't say enough good things about this place and can't wait to go back. If you're looking for a special place to have a meal while traveling in Dublin this is it. Get a reservation now while you still can.
