The Newest Restaurants In Philadelphia

"Kingston 11 has been our favorite place to eat Jamaican food for a while. Now, the fast casual spot is slinging chicken just off South Street in Bella Vista, available in wings, tenders, sandwiches, and tacos for takeout.  We checked out Jerk Fry City. Read our thoughts here." - candis mclean, alison kessler

The food was ok. I had my food door dashed and it came relatively quick. The portions were hefty for a medium, which is a plus for me! The beef patty, macaroni and cheese, and sweet potatoes were really good. My only complaint was that the jerk chicken didn’t have as much flavor and the cabbage was mid at best.

This place was a 10/10!! I ordered on the run, a quick lunch platter. Called in an order for a medium jerk chicken, mac and cheese, and yams. My food was ready in about 15 minutes, which was exactly what I was hoping for. The store was pretty small, but it was clean and welcoming! The guy behind the counter was nice, and he was quick with grabbing my order. They do accept credit cards. The platter was surprisingly heavy!! For $13, I was already happy with what I got! I had to stop at a few places before making it home to eat, so when I did get home, I had to reheat the food. I have to say, EVERYTHING WAS still DELICIOUS!! The chicken was flavored perfectly! It was so spicy that sweat was dripping down my back, and that's how I like my jerk chicken! Mac was cheesy and flavorful! And the YAMS! OMG, THE YAMS! I got full after eating about half the platter, but it was so good that I couldn't stop eating. However, I couldn't finish it all, so I saved some for my husband to try! We both have decided that when we go to PA, this will be the new spot for Jamaican food! Mr. Jerk PUT IN THAT WORK! 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

Their food is really good! I am picky about Jamaican food and have been trying to find a new place since my old favorite closed last year. I'm glad to finally have gotten around to trying Mr. Jerk and I wish I would have done it sooner. I ordered the curry chicken, jerk chicken, yams, and mac and cheese, and was really happy with everything. The curry chicken was well-seasoned and the jerk chicken had the perfect amount of spice. The meat on both was tender and moist, cooked perfectly, with flavor all the way down to the bone. Rice and peas and cabbage were seasoned in their own right, not bland, and the texture was just right, not too soft or too hard. Mac and cheese was tasty, pretty textbook macaroni pie. But the secret ingredient to the plate had to be the yams lol. By themselves, they were just this side of too sweet for me, but when I mixed them with the other savory dishes, that hit of sweetness just amplified the whole plate and brought it together. Especially with the jerk chicken, because it had the heat to play against. And I also really liked it with the macaroni pie. Those yams have been living rent free in my head lol. I'll just be eating something and I'm like dang, you know what would really set this off? Mr. Jerk's yams lmao. I got everything in large and was happy with the portions and the pricing. I ordered through UberEats, and my order was completed perfectly, including the notes I left. I really appreciated the attention to detail and service provided, because those things make a big difference. Oh I almost forgot! I tried the cake too, the pound cake. Yall gotta get you some of that, it was good as hell. Very dense, but not heavy and not too sweet. I could have done with a bit of lemon to it, but it was a really good cake. Very satisfying end to the meal. Overall, I had a really positive experience with Mr. Jerk and will definitely keep them as my go-to spot when I'm feeling for Jamaican. Give them a try, I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

I've only ordered from GrubHub and we are never ever disappointed. Husband and wife team that can cook and bake like nobody's business. When I have extra money I always call them. God bless y'all hands 🙏🏾 thank you for quality food at good prices.

Brown stew chicken, sweet potato, corn and Mac and cheese and cabbage were really good. The jerk chicken is spicy but way too salty which low key messed up the rice and beans but the portions are good and I’d recommend this place.

I ordered from here and but change from delivery to pick up. My boyfriend goes to pick up our order but the old guy talking about its still on delivery for door dash and had him waiting even tho the door dash says pick up. I notice he kiss up to females but always rude or got some smart shit to say to black males and I’m not liking it. And clearly you can’t see it says pick up.

Google
I ordered from here from Grubhub today. I was skeptical that a pick up on place would have a plate worth $18 but I was wrong. Let me tell you about this food: I ordered the pepper steak with white rice and Mac and cheese. The pepper steak is perfect. The rice was cooked superiorly well. The Mac and cheese is good for a basic one with cheese and no spices. I put in my order and it was ready in about 2 minutes for pick up so it’s convenient and fast. It’s a lot of food and good to share with 2-3 people.

Yelp
Jamaica good! Great food and hospitality. Mr. Jerk is my favorite Caribbean food. He's been cooking since he was young. In his country he cooked for the ambassador.

Yelp
Great small business! The owner/chef was kind, but def has that Jamaican personality - which I love. Just get your stuff and keep it moving. FYI, there will be 5% surcharge if you pay with cards. Food: Mac and cheese - a bit blend and too mushy for my liking Jerk chicken platter -chicken - too salty -rice and peas - nothing out of the ordinary -cabbage - well- seasoned. Awesome Price - small size was $13. Pretty reasonable for 3 pieces of chicken and 2 sides. This establishment is a great addition to the neighborhood, but overall, i've tasted better.

Yelp
I ordered from here for the first time. I would say never again! The rice was mushy, and tasted crappy. The jerk chicken was so salty, I thought they'd poured an entire bag of salt in it, and couldn't eat it. I also ordered 2 beef patties, they gave me 1 then for the other one, they supplemented it with 2 chicken wings that were so crappy, with no taste at all. Seriously, they've wasted my money.

Yelp
I think I'll give up on my quest to find good Caribbean food in Philadelphia especially Jerk Chicken. With a name like Mr. Jerk the jerk chicken left so much more to be desired. Pros. The portion is huge. Could easily feed 2 adults or even 2 adults and a small child if the adults eat normal portion sizes. The macaroni and cheese wasn't dry and bland as Caribbean "macaroni pie" can be. They allow you to get it as one of the sides with a meal unlike a lot of Caribbean places that charge extra for it. The cabbage was well seasoned. $15 for a medium that size is a deal. Cons They gave me stew chicken. I've been to Jamaica and had jerk chicken from the side of the road. I was raised in Brooklyn NY which in my opinion has the best jerk chicken outside of Jamaica. I grew up eating brown stew chicken and hated it in my teenage and older years. This chicken was made on top of the stove. Jerk chicken ISNT made on a stove. It was extremely salty. I actually threw away majority of it which is a pity considering how much of it there was. The "jerk chicken" was sweet, spicy, salty and soggy. Each flavor strong and not balanced as it should be. I've had jerk chicken I didn't like before but it tasted similar to jerk chicken and maybe too much or too little of a spice. But this wasn't jerk chicken. In a blind taste taste I would've said salty stew chicken. I would dine again but I would have to be able to taste the meat before hand and definitely would not get the "jerk chicken". Also no few pieces of plantain you usually get with a meal from this type of establishment.

Yelp
I had so much leftovers it wasn't even funny. I tried a groupon for this location and I had a lot of reservations pulling up. I, AS USUAL, should stop judging books by their covers. the guy at the counter was very nice to everyone who came in. Very polite. i stepped out and waited for the crowd (maybe 4 people) to leave. once i got in I got a huge meal and some sides to go. I was skeptical of how everything was so fresh when I got home when it seems like it's all buffet style back there which could be hit or miss. I was sorely mistaken. I got the salmon which was tender, fresh and well seasoned. the rice was cooked perfectly and the greens were 'worthy' as I refer to them. I paid little extra for some corn bread and a beef patty(which was frozen they didn't have any fresh. It's in my freezer right now). The food was great. Overall it was good from start to finish. this is one of those joints in philly everybody know about but nobody tells anybody. please! go support a local business. This place more than deserves it.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my jerk chicken platter taste was absolutely awesome, although, the rice and peas needed a tiny bit more work (to me) I will certainly be a repeat customer service was great restaurant was clean.

Yelp
So glad I discovered this place! It's a little drive from SP, but well worth it. The jerk chicken ($13 medium, $15 large, and I believe the small is $11) was the best I've ever had and I've had my share around Philly! Super quick service with a smile at the counter. Highly recommend and looking forward to trying more dishes.

Yelp
The owners of this restaurant exemplify how to run a family restaurant. The food is always outstanding and so much of it! I sometimes ask them to double check the price because I'm astounded at such fair pricing for this excellence. I love the chicken curry My husband loves the jerk Chicken But my ultimate favorite is the Goat!!! Today it's just melting in my mouth! I'm so glad I got a large! The Mac and cheese was the best I've had out in a line time. It's like family made. The greens and cabbage are so fresh and well seasoned. I just had to call them back and leave a message about how thankful I am that they are open and make such amazing food. The affordability allows me to come back even more often. They also have excellent baked goods that the wife makes from scratch. Such a great couple. Blessed with the wonderful talent of cooking and superb business management. So clean, so fresh, so good.

Yelp
So so good and authentic. I usually go to Reading Terminal Market for Jamaican but just moved to S. Philly and this has been my go-to.

Yelp
I travel the entire northeast for work and this small operation is my favorite Jamaican food spot. Between the portions, quality, cleanliness and friendliness it's an example of how to run a restaurant...and I love spicy jerk yum

Matt R.

Yelp
This place has amazing food, large portions, great prices, and super friendly staff. We got the goat, fried chicken, and sauteed shrimp plus cabbage, mac n cheese, and rice and beans. It all was so fresh and tasted homemade and perfectly seasoned, I can't recommend this place enough.

Yelp
The owners are very polite and have great hospitality. My daughter goes here often for a beef patty and she loves the curry chicken. She always tells me how polite they are to her and it's her favorite spot. The food is delicious as well and I have had oxtails and the curry chicken and they were very tasty. Best place in the area for food!

Meg W.

Yelp
I was hankering for a good tasting meal and we love oxtails. Unfortunately, this was pricey and had no real taste. It tasted as though bbq sauce was on it all, the cabbage, oxtails, and peas with rice had no seasoning. If you want better go to Ms. Tiny's!!!

Len B.

Yelp
Food is delicious and worth the price as you get a lot of food for your money. Only thing I would suggest is that you are mindful upon receiving your order as from my delivery email, they forgot my drink. Otherwise I rate them Two thumbs up and A+A+A+

Yelp
Very very very disappointed! First, The Mac and cheese is not Mac and cheese at all! It's bland unseasoned macaroni noodles dry with no cheese or salt! Second, the Escovish red snapper is not authentic!! My peppers and carrots was old and soggy!! There was no vinegar Jews in the recipe!! The corn on the cob is the frozen cheap Walmart brand! It's not sweet at all the texture and taste is very unpleasant! Third, The jerk season is not authentic. If it's not on the grill is not jerk!! The jerk taste like sweet hot sauce not jerk!! The man made me feel like a dollar and not a customer! I paid $35 for 1 platters and two sides (which one of the sides I did not get After the gentleman reassured me that all of my food was in the bag)! No Jamaican restaurant should run out of rice and peas ... they did Not have many things on the menu!! I discarded the whole meal it was disgusting! Nasty food rude customer service I'm never going back!
