Where to Eat, Stay, and Play in Auckland, New Zealand

"Mr Morris, opened by chef Michael Meredith in 2020, aims to define a modern Pacific and New Zealand dining experience. The food ranges from New Zealand grass-fed beef and green-lipped mussels to fire-roasted tuatua, focusing on local, ethical, and seasonal ingredients."

The 38 Best Restaurants in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland, New Zealand) | Eater

"Following the closure of Meredith’s in 2017, Mr. Morris represents the long-awaited return of chef Michael Meredith to the Aotearoa dining scene. With touches of Meredith’s Samoan heritage and lots of local ingredients studding the menu, Mr. Morris brings a unique take on modern Aotearoa cuisine to Britomart. For those wanting to feel part of the action, sit up at the central U-shaped bar to peer into the kitchen. On most nights, you’ll find Meredith front and center, sending out a brisk clap through the room to signal the arrival of chicken liver parfait topped with chicken skin bites or crispy quail with mandarin and curry leaf. — HE" - Hillary Eaton

We had a wonderful birthday dinner at Mr. Morris and absolutely loved the experience! The food was beautifully presented and full of flavour. I especially enjoyed the sauces, which were incredibly tasty and elevated each dish. The cocktails and wines were also fantastic, creative, balanced, and just the right touch for a special celebration. The service was warm and attentive without being overbearing. Overall, such a memorable evening. Highly recommend for a refined yet relaxed dining experience!

An absolutely heart-warming, do-not-miss dinner in Auckland. Don't get a table - sit at the chefs counter. The food is incredible, the core ingredients and flavor each dish is amazing but the garnish and finish seasonings are really what bring out tremendous depth and range. At the counter, it practically has the feel of being a guest in someone's home. Cozy tables and corners everywhere, but the counter is really what brings the experience home. We felt welcomed and left with hearts and bellies full.

Had a fantastic dinner here. A friend and I opted for the ‘Mr Morris Experience’ from the menu and loved it. Every single course (8 in total) had great flavours and textures. Would highly recommend this experience. The only slight thing to improve on would be the lighting, it was very bright in there. But on the whole, fantastic evening, keep up the great work team.

I just had to share how much we loved the crispy skin duck breast—so tender and flavorful! The oysters were incredibly fresh and added a perfect touch to the meal. Every bite was simply delightful! Can’t wait to come back for more!

We had the pleasure of visiting last week and sampling the chef's menu. We thought the service was excellent and the atmosphere was very pleasant. The food was also very enjoyable. While we thoroughly enjoyed the experience, we felt that some snacks could have been a little less oily and some entrees could have had a touch more of uniqueness to enhance the overall culinary experience. But as I said these are small things at a high level. Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, and we would highly recommend it to anyone. One of our group had a pescatarian option, and the staff were very accommodating in this regard. Two of us chose a drink pairing, which added a pleasant touch to the evening. The drinks were presented beautifully, and we enjoyed learning about each one. It might be beneficial to consider having the bartender pour drinks directly into the glasses at the table, which could enhance the experience. Overall, we had a pleasant dining experience, enhanced by the exceptional service

One of my top 5 favorite restaurants! @mrmorrisnz 🍽️✨ If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend trying it out! Their Set Menu features many of their signature dishes, making it an easy and delicious choice. Here are three must-try starters/snacks: 1️⃣ Tartare, mussel, spring onion, hash brown 2️⃣ Chicken skin, parfait, pumpkin pickle 3️⃣ Broccoli, mustard, parsley, buckwheat These are absolute standouts! Trust me—the chicken skin with parfait is life-changing. Once you try it, you’ll want to order at least five next time. Perfect with a drink, or honestly, as a meal on its own! The Raw fish, kawa kawa, kiwi fruit was good, but since I’m a huge fan of Western-style cured fish, I tend to be extra picky. This dish had great potential, but the kiwi was a bit too sour and firm for my taste. As for the mains: 🔥 Charred cabbage, bayleaf, macadamia 🔥 Lamb rump, peppers, seaweed, sheep yoghurt 🔥 Cos, fresh peas, pistachio, mint All solid and well-executed, but nothing that truly wowed me. BUT THEN… OMG. The dessert. Oh. My. God. This was next level. I’m not even sure of the exact name since their menu changes seasonally, but what we had was an incredibly smooth and creamy sorbet—so rich, so perfectly balanced, yet light enough to keep you coming back for more. I think there was honey or some kind of syrup in it? Not entirely sure, but it was magical. And the toasted coconut flakes underneath? A game-changer. The combination of flavors and textures was pure heaven. Honestly, I could eat 100 of these… and maybe pair them with the chicken skin. 😂 If you ever visit, do yourself a favor and try this dessert! 💯🔥

God tier food. We got the Mr. Morris experience menu and I’ve never seen more creative, fascinating and fun food done with so much consistency. Absolutely mindblowing experience. Been a huge fan of Georgia Van Prehn’s cooking ever since I visited Alta and I was more than happy to see they put the carrot tartare with cashew cream on the menu as a snack! don’t even know if it’s typically part of the tasting menu or not as my partner asked for it specifically because she knew how much I loved that dish. Fish with feijoa, the squid “noodles,” the insane steak - so worth your money and such nice people! Thanks so much for the amazing drinks pairings too, still thinking about that yuzu sake :)

Nothing to fault here just gorgeous space, friendly and professional staff and incredible food. A kaleidoscope of flavours, textures, colours- could not pick a favourite dish. We took our kids (12 and 7) and felt very welcomed. Their favourites were the chicken skins and foccacia for the starters, the salmon crudo with kiwi, cauliflower carpaccio and the beetroot entrees, and the beef main.
