I stopped by Mr. Moto Pizza in Pacific Beach for a to-go order and had a mixed experience. It took around 10 minutes just to place the order and another 20 minutes for the pizza to be ready. There were only two staff members running the whole shop, and they seemed overwhelmed by the high volume of orders. I genuinely felt sorry for them – they were doing their best under pressure. That said, the pizza was worth the wait. I ordered a vegetable pizza, and the taste was excellent – fresh ingredients, great crust, and full of flavor. The location is also unbeatable, just a short walk from the beach. It’s a perfect spot to grab a pizza after a swim or beach hangout. Just keep in mind that parking is very limited in the area, so plan ahead if you’re driving.

The Hulk might just be the best pizza in San Diego. Was recommended by friends, turns out they were right. The stuffed knots are really good also.

Google
Your pizza is SOOOO GOOD!! We’re from the East Coast so we have the best pizza in NY and NJ, but dare I say yours was even better! Crispy crust, great cheese and a whole lot of love. There wasn’t much variety to choose from but I’m sure that’s because we arrived late (I think after 9pm) - What pizza place is even open that late?! Big fan!!

Google
Visiting from out of town, needed a gluten free pizza option for the lady friend and Mr. Moto was the answer. I am a huge pizza fan and their gluten free crust was incredible! It was the perfect amount of crispy and lost no flavor. Went simple with just pepperoni and it was so good. Also ordered some Wings and they were ok, could cook them just a little longer for a crispier outside. The pizza was the star so I definitely would suggest this place and would order again!

Google
Casual and hip atmosphere. Service was great and the pizzas were good as well. NY style pizza by the slice is exactly what you will get when you come here. You choose the slice you want, and they will heat it up. We came here twice during our stay. Watch the TV for a comical treat while you wait for your food. I would recommend this pizza joint and will come back for our next trip to Pacific Beach.

Google
Mr. Moto in PB is one of my favorite spots for pizza in San Diego. The quality is consistently great, and this location in particular always delivers. The customer service is amazing—friendly, helpful, and quick. Whether you’re grabbing a quick slice or taking a whole pie to go, they make the experience easy and enjoyable.

Revised 7/16/25 The LEMON in the house lemon vinaigrette is back! So delicious 😋 I was driving from Carlsbad (after Encinitas location closed) just for the house salad with chicken because the Lemon Vinaigrette was so incredibly tasty, but last time it was flavorless. I was told the recipe on that dressing had changed. Extremely disappointing.

Google
The best pizza on the beach hands down. Ingredients are high quality and the variety of pizzas has something for everyone. The thickness of the dough and the cool temperature is always perfect. Every time I try a different pizza I always say, it’s not as good as Moto!

Yelp
Mr Moto in Pacific Beach is my new favorite pizza take out place. I am someone who never liked pizza and then found a brand ( I won't mention) I liked but there was always ( twice I tried it) a doughy sort of taste- so much so I'd only eat the toppings and never the actual pizza. Then I tasted Mr Moto. (I've had it twice) and I took a bite of the crust and guess what? Absolutely no doughy taste. I liked the pepperoni pizza so much that I actually had a left over slice for breakfast this morning! I used to hate being at friends houses when they'd order pizza- the base of the pizza soggy or too thick or too oily. I'm not sure how Mr Moto makes the crust be cooked and so tasty! But now I'm a convert!! I'd totally give them a try...

Yelp
I came to San Diego on holiday with my family, eager for some fantastic food adventures. Our first stop was Moto Pizza. Now, let me tell you, Carmen was manning the register, and her greeting was colder than a frozen cod. I don't know if Carmen had a tragic day or if her dog decided to run away, but she was about as happy to see us as I am to see raw chicken in a salad! Her rude demeanor was as thick as a burnt crust. When I went to pick up our pizza, she practically hurled the plate at me like it was a game of dodgeball! The pizza slice flew off the plate and landed on the countertop. Did she apologize? Barely! She seemed more annoyed that she had to heat up another slice. And when the replacement was ready, she just abandoned it on the counter like it was yesterday's leftovers. It's an absolute shame because the pizza itself was a delight, bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. But Carmen's service was a disaster. Moto Pizza, you've got a gem in that kitchen, but for heaven's sake, train Carmen to be a better server!

Yelp
I was told this pizza spot was good...and I will have to say, it was ok. The service was great, but the taste was very plain. Nothing to rave about. Ordered the "Hulk" pizza, calzone and garlic knots as all the reviews said those were the best. The pizza was very dry, the calzone was missing sauce. I had asked for it to mirror one of their pizzas but didn't realize that meant no sauce. We asked for the pie and calzone to be well done but they were still chewy. The garlic knots that everyone raves about in the reviews were also very doughy...chewy. Reviews also said to make sure to get their ranch. Not sure why it's super watery. Maybe we went on an off night, but it also was strange that all the other spots around Mr. Moto's were busy but not one person inside Mr. Moto's. The staff was very courteous but the parking sucks. Not sure I would go back. Didn't eat much of what we ordered and wasted A LOT of money.

Yelp
I really like Mr. Moto. They have a lot of vegetarian slice options and 1 stuffed vegetarian garlic knot option. I really like the stuffed garlic knots. The staff is really nice and the service is quick if you're just getting a few slices. Super casual spot with small indoor seating. Definitely a good spot.
google avatar

Christine F.

Yelp
The pizza here is so freakin good. Almost comparable to the pizza in NYC. I got the Mamma Moto and my husband got the California Love and the Diablo. We devoured our pizza slices in less than 5 minutes. We also ordered a stuffed garlic knot (jalapeño, pepperoni, etc) but this one was too spicy for me. I liked the plain ones more. The only downside to this particular location is they do not have any restrooms. You literally can't just be sitting here too long and hanging out bc the lack of restrooms facilities will deter this. Anyhow would definitely come back if we are the area. Too bad they don't have one closer to where we live but then again maybe that's a good thing bc this would be a regular rotation on our places to eat at.
google avatar

Amy F.

Yelp
Editing my review... appreciate the reply and explanation regarding the cheese. Good info. The Mamma moto is my fav pizza here, and it definitely tastes better the usual way, without all the white cheese running along the top. Will try again, because the pizza here is usually fantastic and the customer service is great :) Ordered a medium Mamma Moto pizza. I've ordered this before and it's always been great. This time, the cheese is a runny, drippy mess. I can't help but wonder if it's even okay to eat? 1st picture is from previous order and how it should look. 2nd pic is what I received today. I'd give one star if today was my first order, but I'll give 3 because the previous one was great.

Yelp
Pizza was average customer service was a night mare lol as they seem like they hated thier job waited 30 minutes for pizza and wings to taste just as good as 7/11 pizza. Sitting in the bathroom with a diahrrea from this shit of a place pizza shop
google avatar

Yelp
The best pizza around. We order delivery often... it's not just Cheesey! A lot of variety snd you can get 1/2 n 1/2

Yelp
Omg how does this place not have 5 stars! Def my FAVE pizza spot. I'm from LA and this place is a MUST whenever I'm in the area. I'm not sure what's better.. the garlic knots or Mama Moto but def try them both. Don't forget that side of ranch and hot honey!! The service is always great and the staff is so helpful. Def check them out the next time you're in the area!! Garlic knots: BMS They're always SO bomb... do I dare say better than the pizza which is already good?!?! Def get it with a side of ranch Mama Moto: 10/10 Basically a margarita pizza but always so fresh and good. I like that they don't put too much sauce on their pizzas. Def get a side of hot honey!
google avatar

Chris T.

Yelp
Coming from NY, the pizza was OK. Nothing special, crust was a little floppy but the ingredients were good. Quick service and plenty of options there. Good if you want a quick slice for on the go.
google avatar

Tiffany C.

Yelp
Super delicious. I loooove all the cheese options. There are weird pizza videos playing on a TV inside that kept the kids entertained while I inhaled pizza. Great price too!

Yelp
Been going to Mr. Moto PB for a few years now. Throughout that time I've noticed a considerable decrease in the quality of their pizza and their absolute TRASH customer service. The staff in the last year has been absolutely terrible. They are extremely rude, act annoyed when you order, and literally don't know anything about the menu. I called in my pizza and was put on hold for over 20 minutes. I swear the guy forgot about me and I actually called back and got put on hold again. As you can see with their other recent reviews, they are going downhill quick. There has been a lot of turnover from their staff which is a direct reflection of the management. I really suggest a new approach to hiring and management if they want to stay in business for much longer. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because I used to really love their pizza and have hopes they can turn this ship around...

Yelp
Visiting from out of town and I know good pizza ! The hotel i was staying at recommended this pizza shop to me. The pizza tasted amazing as well as the pasta that my wife ordered and the service was phenomenal. Jose took my order, he was very kind and informative about the menu as I am a picky eater. he recommended the California slice and garlic knots. he was on the money ! he was very patient and happy to help. The store had very warm and welcoming vibes .

Justin K.

Yelp
Pretty okay pizza, nothing too great or nothing too bad. Crust was okay, cheese was the best that we ordered.

M A.

Yelp
I'd give 5 stars if it'd come hot and soft like it did when I was on Missouri, unfortunately the drivers aren't using boxes that keep the pizza warm to La Jolla :/ BUT the wave add black olives amazing
google avatar

Patrick M.

Yelp
This review is for the "Chunky Red Mess" slice. IT'S SO GOOD. 5 big stars. Every bite is memorable.

Charlie K.

Yelp
It's 430 am and their music started blaring. This is the second occurrence. I work 12 hour days so now I'm up two hours before I need to be. For a neighborhood establishment, this isn't very neighborly.

Yelp
Dear Mr. Moto, I'm your biggest fan and love your mustache. I've easily purchased the most Mr. Motos pizzas in San Diego since it's origination in 2015. (At least 100, Check my account) However, I have a HUGE request. As the pizza connoisseur that I am -- as well as my ability to recognize a nice STACHE -- I am begging you to change the ingredients back to the oG original formula. The dough has vastly changed and tastes completely different and the pepperoni's are no longer large & luscious and taste different as well. The old style pizza was the best pizza in San Diego county hands down. 10/10, I would rave about it. The new style with alleged new ingredients, I refuse to give a rating because I don't want to hurt my bro's sales like that. But please fix and return to the old style. I know it's important to cut costs after going big time -- but losing business because the ingredient changes will probably make it a wash financially in my expert business opinion. Please consider. Thank you. - fellow stache haver / pizza enjoyer

Yelp
Pizza it's good but the service it's terrible They are completely lost !!! Every time asked about my order they said it's going to take 10 minutes and takes 40-50 And the pizza was there already like 30 minutes ago lol They just don't know how call your name when the order it's complete. And I asked every 5 minutes about my order and still no working very well !!!!!
google avatar

Ian C.

Yelp
It's the horrible service. At first I thought the service was just a one off with what I experienced. It took awhile for my order to be taken and the service I experienced. But, while waiting for my order, I saw a delivery order messed up, and the person behind me wait an awkward 10 minutes to have their order taken while the front counter person and cook try to figure out their lives
google avatar

Frank S.

Yelp
OK pizzeria was fast service. The pizza sizes are very large. I think about 24 inches in diameter. However, the quality is less comparable than Pizza Hut or Domino's.
google avatar

Erica B.

Yelp
My go to pizza in pacific beach. The service is always great. The pizzas are all amazing. I love the California love pizza and always get their gluten free crust. They deliver as well!!
google avatar

Keith H.

Yelp
I have been going to this location for years and years. Are used to live about four doors down from them. They consistently get orders wrong giving you the wrong items giving you the wrong sauce etc. not tonight I placed an order for delivery and I ordered a large pizza and 2 kn for our family. When it arrived, the pizza looked great but instead of the 2 kn we got a salad. I called to get it fixed and they wouldn't bring us the knife we ordered and only offered us a refund. All this is after it took me 25 minutes to place our order online because the system has issues. And they no longer have a way to order over the phone. We are going to look for another place to get pizza in PB.

Brittney S.

Yelp
There was a metal shard in the bottom of my crust :/ thankfully I folded my pizza and saw it in there before I had gotten to the part with the metal in it or else I would've eaten it! Only giving 3 stars because of that, otherwise the pizza is really good I've always loved Mr. Moto's but wanted to put this out there so they are a bit more careful!!

Sean J.

Yelp
Went in to buy a pizza and the place smelled rancid. It was also very dirty and looked unsanitary. I would recommend a health inspection by the owner or code enforcement. Nevertheless decided not to place an order.
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Hello Moto! The total pizza experience is located in PB, SD. Great pizza, juicy marinara, scenic oceanic views, sun, good vibes, and a satisfied belly. Enjoy this California experience, Visit Mr Moto.
google avatar

Joseph R.

Yelp
If it could be zero I would assign that. After our last frightful experience with Mr Moto I was assured by the store manger they would refund my niece her money but I recently found out they never did. Not only the worst pizza experience but now a staff that doesn't stand by their word. Go figure seems to be normal business for these guys.

Yelp
Swung by for dinner on a weekday and it was fairly empty; we were the only dine-in customers. Typically, I feel like with pizza restaurants it's always better to order an entire pizza, but there were only two of us, so we opted for one of the combos that came with three slices and a drink. The slices are still decently large, but I'd come back to get a fresh whole pizza next time. Mr. Moto (3.5/5): This one was a bit greasy with a couple of oil puddles that I opted to dap up with a napkin. The burrata cheese was lovely though. Mission Blvd (4.5/5): I really didn't expect to love this, but this was the best slice of pizza I had here by far. The caramelized onions are slightly sweet with garlic is just perfect! Usually, I wouldn't be caught dead ordering a vegetarian pizza, but this one is genuinely lovely. Mamma Mia (3.75/5): This one is a super solid choice and is reminiscent of the Mr. Moto, but feels less heavy even with the bacon. Stuffed spinach and ricotta knots (2.5/5): I tried the garlic knots at the Mr Moto Pizza location in downtown La Jolla, but unfortunately the ones I got here were still cold in the center.

Yelp
The best part of this order was the prompt delivery, but the pizza was terribly disappointing. Undercooked, doughy with excessive pepperoni to cover up its lack of excellence. A hotel staffer recommended it. Sorry that I listened. Next time I'll study Yelp. I'd like to add that I received a quick response from the staff who tried to make it right. That goes a long way in my book.
google avatar

Matt W.

Yelp
I don't normally write reviews. But the staff at this place just continues to go above and beyond. Tonight, as just one example, when the GrubHub delivery driver stole the food (twice!), the front guy hopped in with the cooks to make super fast replacements and gave us a discount. And this is not unusual - they're always like this. It's amazing.

Mark S.

Yelp
At the Pacific Beach location, the pizza is average. The staff is polite and provides quick service. Their prices have gotten out of hand. As of today, a large 2-topping pizza is now $32.32 plus $9.50 if you want local delivery. Simple truth is their pizza is not worth $41.82
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
I would say Mr Moto Pizza offers the one of the better vegan pizza alternatives in Pacific Beach. While plant-based options have greatly improved mimicking the taste and texture of many animal products, vegan cheese is definitely NOT one of them. I am not particularly a fan of the thick, rubber vegan mozzarella they use at Woodstock's and Square Pizza's only vegan option is gluten-free with burnt crust half of the time. And don't even get me started on Sandbox... That being said, the vegan cheese they use at Mr Moto closely resembles real cheese and melts pretty nicely. I also prefer the pizza dough itself over other local pizzerias that offer vegan options. My only critique would be the crust of the pizza. I found it a little bland, but nothing some melted butter, garlic, and ranch couldn't fix. Also, the size of the pizza is insane! Sandbox charges the same price for their tiniest of tiny baby vegan pizza which is, unfortunately, gluten-free and therefore resembles eating cheese off of stiff cardboard. So basically, if you are looking for a plant-based pizza in or near 92109, I would definitely recommend Mr Moto pizza!

Yelp
My friends and I went to this restaurant after a long morning at the beach. The service was nice and fast, but they don't have a public restroom to wash our hands. The ambiance was quiet and the TV was replaying the same ad for the restaurant the whole time. The pizza was New York style where it sits on the counter cooked and once you order it, they put it in the oven to reheat it. I wasn't a fan of the Rocky Mountain Pizza because it was really sweet. It had spicy honey on it, but it was more sweet than spicy. I couldn't feel any spice from it. The Margarita and Mr.Moto pizza were very good. The Garlic knots were also nice to eat along side our pizzas. Overall, a great restaurant to eat at for tasty piece of pizza. The price was reasonable. It's also right next to the beach so it's an easy walk.

Yelp
We just arrived at the MB beach house and needed food - ordered Mr Moto delivery - ordered online through Yelp and got the kids a large pepperoni - then went to order a fancy custom pizza for the adults - managed to add everything to the order then realized it was letting me order a whole AND first half pizza at the same time - I removed the "first half" and then added to cart - unfortunately when erasing the one "first half" item, that erased all of our choices for fancy pizza and a cheese pizza was ordered. Unfortunate that the ordering system works that way, if you remove any other selection (ex: mushrooms) it doesn't wipe out all of the other choices like this single un-checking had done. Yes, user error, but we had driven all day and also broken into the Tito's - but regardless, that's a poorly written part of their ordering system. And since it was custom but then only cheese, perhaps they could have called me - it says through Yelp that you can receive calls for questions about your order. Anyway, the kids liked the pepperoni well enough, and the adults ate part of their pizza instead of eating just cheese, which was not bad for plain cheese pizza, just boring. The pepperoni pizza was pretty warm upon arrival but the cheese was not, as if it had sat there waiting for the pepperoni pizza to be made. The flavor was good enough to try another time, but probably within the restaurant.

Yelp
New York style pizza with lots of flavor! Good prices, thought they wouldn't let me use the 25% off because I was already getting processed with my credit card. This was a great option for us and we enjoyed eating outside.

Yelp
I Ordered a pizza and 3 meatball pasta from Uber Eats for me and my two boys. After 1 hour of waiting there was still no delivery made. When I called them they told me they gave my order to somebody already. When asked who picked it up they had no idea either. They told me they are not working with Uber eats. I remember this place from La Jolla back when they were Pizza on Pearl. Apparently with new ownership they've lost control.

Annie K.

Yelp
11/10. I'd like to start off by saying that being from New York, I'm a huge pizza snob. I'm incredibly picky about where I'm getting my pizza. My job turned me onto Mr. Moto's and I haven't looked back since. I haven't found a pizzeria that even the feel of when you walk in, reminds me of pizzerias in NY until them. I've tried other pizzas but nothing compares to Mr. Moto's. Whenever someone recommends going out for pizza, I refuse to go anywhere else. I'll only go to them. The ambiance has a homey feeling to me and everyone who works there is so friendly and welcoming.
google avatar

Mary K.

Yelp
Mr Moto Pizza. Mr My Favorite Pizza In San Diego. I don't think I've ever said no to ordering pizza from Mr Moto and after you try it, you'll be in the same situation. Where do I start? I love all the pies. Mama Moto and Smokey greens are my all time favorites here. The mama Moto pie has a tartness from the tomatoes and creamy perfection from the cheese. The Smokey greens is a spinach and balsamic explosion of flavor. I love both and order them anytime we are here. The crust on the pizza here is probably my all time favorite. It's not thin crust, but it has the crisp of a thin crust. The service is always beyond friendly. I've never had a time where I left unhappy. Friendly down to earth people here making some really good pie.
google avatar

Jocelyn '.

Yelp
Love this pizza and I live that you can mix and match by the slice to fill your cravings! I try to eat it every time I'm back in SD. The service has always been good.
google avatar

Dan D.

Yelp
1 block from the beach, stop in for pizza to go, they will whip it up quickly and provide plates to go. There is no parking except for along the side streets unless you are lucky enough to get a parallel space in front. Everyone talks about Mr Moto, so we had to try. The pizza is thin crust with just the right amount of tomato sauce. I found the cheese to be a little chewy, is it their signature?
google avatar

Sonia O.

Yelp
Meh! Barely any sauce, not enough flavor. However, nice and crispy on the bottom and perfect temperature.
google avatar

Nate K.

Yelp
Pizza is always been delicious but my last order they put the toppings that were supposed to go on a gluten free crust on regular and the toppings that were supposed to go on regular crust on the gluten free. Otherwise five stars
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
I'm from out of town and Even though it was good pizza we asked for half pepperoni half sausage and this is what was like yes we ate one piece but it was weird I don't know I'd come back here
google avatar

Damian R.

Yelp
Ok, I get it inflation, right?? 49 dlls for 1 cheese pizza and 1 pepperoni, pizza was dripping so much of oil (grease) and so salty . The layer of cheese is so thin and miserable .. I'm sure they're using the worst products with the worst quality. But the worst of all and rather reason why I'm writing this is the experience there . Took 25 min for those 2 pizzas and the people working at the kitchen were screaming and singing songs with profanity in Spanish, of course.. everyone is so slow, like not even trying to give a good service. It seems like the owners now , who hire whoever, not training at all high prices and the stupid people paying and tipping for this crap.
google avatar

Brian C.

Yelp
I was a multi day per week visitor for years but expansion changed quality. Crust is one thing. New pepperonis are a fail, texture, flavor, and bite per bite appeal of the pizza. I've loved Motos since they opened but once you change the ingredients and formula so much it's not what you fell in love with. Hope to revisit what I fell in love with but I don't feel like I will soon. I ordered a well done pizza this time and it's at best cooked regular. No crisp and limp in the hand. You can't even call it New York style.

Gary R.

Yelp
I had their carry out pizza and it was delicious. Great variety. It was very much like a real New York or Chicago pizza and that is hard to duplicate.
google avatar

Hannah N.

Yelp
My friend and I decided to order in tonight after a long mid week work day and I give us a ten out of ten for our choice. We honestly didn't read all of the pizzas becuase we were sold on the Mr. Moto pizza, we also got a Caesar salad. I never expect too much from delivery becuase you just never know but I was actually so pleasantly surprised just by the first bite. This pizza is MASSIVE. After ordering I realized that there was no size option so I was curious how large it was going to be and man we could have fed much more than the 2 of us. I am excited for the leftovers tomorrow though!! Can't wait to try out other pizzas they have because this one was super good!

Roy N.

Yelp
Good Food...Period. I've been here a few times and it's always fantastic. Definitely suggest anytime your I. little Italy...
google avatar

Delanie K.

Yelp
Yelp's online ordering system sucks, but Mr. Moto pizza does not!! There's a discrepancy in the available menu items, but the friendly worker hooked me up with what I thought I ordered. I got the Mr. Moto pizza and it was still hot and fresh after I walked back to our hotel. The dollop of cheese on each slice was a game changer! So good. The stuffed knot with pepperoni, cheese, and jalapeños was amazing. Didn't skimp on any ingredient and the outside was coated with seasonings. They also offer individual slices which would be fun to try as well.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
If you are in PB and looking for a quick slice or a place to sit down with the family then this checks all the boxes. If ordering for yourself they can warm up a slice in two minutes. Service was friendly and there were many fresh slices in the case. I would recommend mr moto especially when looking for quality pizza in a jiffy
